Great Video Niko. Love those Skydio drone shots. Best drone on the market! FYI, we start the WYBDR on 8/30, going north to south. Two teams of eight riders each.
Watching you grab the drone in the air gave me nightmare flashback - I did that in a windy day in Colorado on the GCDR and got my thumb bit by a rotor! ouch. Video is very nice, I'm enjoying the trip so far.
Haha I’ve done that too with my DJI drone - for these Skydios catching them in the air is actually standard procedure, the way the battery and rotors are positioned it makes it much safer
Heck of a job on these WYBDR videos. I had been hoping to do the route in 5 days (assuming good weather), but adding up the times from the end of each of your videos.. .that does not seem possible.
Thanks! I would say 5 days is possible but it leave no room for any problems, weather, and camping - it would be very long days. 7-8 days seems to be the sweet spot
I’m very impressed with your VLOG editing. Great job. I need to bring my drone into my rides, did WYBDR last year too on my 701. An awesome BDR. Question: what settings do you use for your GoPro with respect to resolution, frame rate, and field of view?
Thanks! For the GoPro it depends on the model, for the Hero 8 which I used in this video I did 2.7k, 60fps, superview - for the Hero 11 which I just got I’ll do some more detailed editing and use 5.3k, 60fps, superview, locked WB, medium sharpness, native color
@@NikoKavallar Thanks for the info. I have a Hero 9, no intention of upgrading soon. I found 2.7k to be sufficient with 4k and higher not providing me much resolution advantage over 2.7k, but using both too much memory and battery. I’ll have to try superview to see if that improves the viewing experience. Seems very nice to watch in your video. I have a DJI Mini 3 Pro which I haven’t used for moto tracking yet, but am going to try soon in some of the more open terrain I have available here in the Albuquerque area. Thanks again.
I’m always in favor of using the highest possible resolution for 60fps with super view, it just gives more quality, but it does use more storage - for that I use a 1TB SD card on the Hero 11 and an external battery mounted to the helmet with a cable keeping it charged all day
I enjoyed your series very much. I did the COBDR September 2021 and the first section we hit (north to south) had rain and snow. It was a struggle just to go 5 miles. So I can appreciate your struggle through that mud on sections 7 & 8. I didn't get a close enough look at your drone to see what it was. Can you tell me what it is and how much it originally cost?
Thanks Tom! I used the Skydio 2+ drone - it’s autonomous so it follows you without the need to control it. The base package with the GPS beacon is around $1500, but you should get additional batteries as well
It’s a 3d print I bought on eBay. It originally came with a GoPro mount on the back but those break of easily so I removed the GoPro attachment and fastened a RAM base plate with some bolts.
I used the Mini 3 in Colorado since I also have one but it was a pain to be honest, the tracking difference is huge. I wish DJI would come out with a competitor to the Skydio since Skydio stopped making consumer drones
@@NikoKavallar I didn't realize they stopped making them. My only reason to go to DJI was the quality of the picture. This was about 1 year ago. I think they only did 1080 at the time.
nice i did it in July on my t7 but did have very hard time on Sendy section what front tire did u run my front qas washing our big time i was on shinkos 804
motoz tires are top performance for dual sports. Could also look into dunlop d606, famous winning the Baja desert races a bunch of times, if not all lol
I used D606 a few times but they don’t even last half the time that the Desert HT do - tracking on the Desert HT is also better in my experience. All that being said, the D606 is a great tire! (Rear only, front sucks haha)
Thanks for putting together such a good quality series. It will make this winter a lot better for me and my brother being able to relive this ride
Thanks, I appreciate it!
the following drone is pretty cool
That looks like my kind of riding Niko, great vid and thanks for bringing us along. Loving the drone shots ;-)
Thanks Peter, hope to ride with you one of these days!
Great video! Looking forward to the next seven days of the WY BDR. One of your IA boys here.
Thanks! Working on the rest of them right now, should follow shortly
I'm glad to hear that my 701's fans isn't the only one that is loud. LOL The WYBDR is the best!
Haha yes that fan is not quite - though the 90/10 tires are even worse once you go above 40mph
Great Video Niko. Love those Skydio drone shots. Best drone on the market! FYI, we start the WYBDR on 8/30, going north to south. Two teams of eight riders each.
Awesome! Keep a good eye on the weather, it’s the single biggest factor, some section really become undrivable as you will see in Episode 7 haha
You ride well over that bumpy stuff. I'd be lagging behind, for sure. Also have a 701, hoping to do this trip in august.
Nice! The 701 is definitely a beast for trails like this
Subscribed! Looking forward to the rest
Thanks, episode 2 coming today
Excellent drone work

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
great videography! what tires did you use? Planning on doing this on a gs 1250
Thanks! I used the Motoz Desert HT tires - they’re incredibly grippy offroad but pretty loud
If you don't mind me asking where did you get that skydio beacon handle bar mount?

Does anyone have a video of the 'S' bank curve that is right after the water crossing?
Good video, like to not hear the language on such a good vid,,
