      Feeling confident in "public spaces" and in being able to wear any women's clothing were among my top reasons for getting srs, but it didn't help when it came to picking which surgery to get. It all springs from the need to feel whole/complete, and srs is a part of that package.
      I don't feel less confident in the shower or locker room (I did this for the first time a few days ago) because I have shallow depth, it all looks about the same on the surface, and I think it feels about the same, though I don't think anyone knows for sure, there is just no way to do a comparison, but it's close enough as far as I'm concerned.

    • @DrJamieTalks
      @DrJamieTalks  Місяць тому +1

      Considering the SDV is the first depth to FDV with colon, I'm guessing it would feel the same to the FDV at least in terms of sensation. I'd be curious to hear from someone who got the 2-step procedure to find out how things changed (if at all) after step 2.

    This was very informative and helpful, thanks Dr. Jamie.
    And just in time, I just collected all the paperwork I need for my insurance. Now fingers crossed that they approve.
    I'm planning for shallow depth. My main motivation is that the ability to receive penetrative sex would be more of novelty value than something I'd regularly pursue and desire (almost 50 years old, married to a eoman). On the other hand, the neovaginal canal seems to be the main area of complications (fistulas, granulated tissue, etc.), it's the part that takes longest to heal, and it comes with a lot of maintenance overhead (dilation, douching).

    • @DrJamieTalks
      @DrJamieTalks  Місяць тому +1

      @@ismiregalichkochdasjetztso3232 Hello. Happy the video was helpful. You’re right, much of the risk for the ‘major’ complications are associated with the canal. I’m considering doing a 4th video in this series, which would be more of a ‘head to head’ comparison of FDV and SDV

    I've been looking forward to this information. Ive wanted to have male parts gone, but have worried that my age (80) would make a surgon take pause. The zero depth seems as though it might work, with easier recovery and less maintenance. I dont foresee wanting any activity that would include a need for penetrative availability. I want clothes to fit and sexual activity with women. I am also assuming that the procedure would be close to the recovery time if an oricectomy. Thank you Dr Jamie, for this information and im looking forward to Part 3!❤❤😊😊

      The first 8 days I was in hospital, and then I was able to take the train home with lots of pain killers in me. It took me about 4-5 additional weeks of recovery before I could do simple tasks like going grocery shopping etc without much pain. I'm at 8 months now and ride a bicycle a good distance with just a little soreness still. After a year, I think it will feel like I was born with this part of me. I was 62 when I got the shallow depth vaginoplasty.
      I hope this gives you some idea, about recovery. It's a couple of days shorter hospital stay and I think the other aspects of recovery go just a couple of weeks faster than with full depth, just comparing notes with Dr Jamie here.
      It's still a pretty big surgery, at any age, but if I died today, I will have at least lived a few months feeling very happy and complete as a woman, and that was a major goal for me when I started my transition 5 years ago. Anything else from here is all icing on the cake.

    Okay, I fear I'm missing or misunderstanding something, but on Study 2, Table 4 it says "Clinical followup period, mo" with a figure of 8 +/-9. A mean of eight months plus or minus nine months? Did the followup period in some case end a month before the surgery? How does that work? Or was that a misprint?

    It would be interesting to know how long after surgery they asked patients about ability to experience orgasm with a partner?
    A lot of cis women have difficulty achieving orgasm with a partner too. It takes time and practice to figure out for sure but I'm surprised at the numbers shown here, just based on my experience. Then again I'm one of those girls who can orgasm from a decent breast massage 🙂

    • @DrJamieTalks

    • @JaneChristensen.
      @JaneChristensen. Місяць тому

      @@DrJamieTalks Yes, I think in part it's a bit of a mental game for all of us, we have to learn to play, a lot depends on partners understanding, and that is something we have to provide some feedback on.
      Certainly the shallow depth vagina is unfamiliar equipment for just about any partner, pretty rare, so it takes some explaining. That is probably the least fun part about this choice of procedure, the necessary break in the spontaneity with new partners.
      One piece of information I was given post surgery was to explore things down there often because it helps get everything well connected to the brain, and I think that is good advice, but you can't learn partnered sex on your own. It takes at least two to Tango!

    I was offered this, and it's what I originally intended to go with, but I think on the NHS in the UK they won't give you a second operation to get a vagina if you've already had zero depth; I thought I would more likely experience regret from shallow depth; and I was very fit to start with, so I went with full depth. Even though I haven't completely healed yet and I suspect I would have had I gone shallow depth, I have no regrets about the choice I made - and also I haven't "used" it yet, but I would like to experience toys at some point! If my health was not good, I think that would have led me to shallow depth.
