That's great news! I've had a feeling for some time that there were moves afoot to further restrict trans health care in the UK which is one of the reasons behind me going for bottom surgery when I did, rather than waiting - well I guess it did me a favour in that respect. If we have the BMA fighting our corner, that's big for my country. Perhaps those plans to emigrate that are constantly at the back of my mind can stay there, though I don't suppose they'll ever go away entirely. Most importantly, it's officially presented on the BMA's own website. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention; because most of the news is negative, I don't tend to follow it closely. Aside from that, it's good to hear that your recovery is progressing!
I thought of you when I read this news. Responses to something as obnoxious and convoluted as the Cass Review takes time. I hope this takes the breath away from some of those witless transphobic commenters who know nothing about trans people or their healthcare but quote it as though it means anything to serious medical professionals or researchers.
Major Kudos to the BMA. Any other relevant association in the UK should do the same. Maybe united opposition will change the minds of the politicians who are deciding this. I’ve seen at least one person on Tw/X who has already had GCS who is worried about losing access to her hormones. That is bizarre and completely unacceptable. It’s hard to really appreciate the influence of the GC’s in the UK, but they obviously have a lot of pull. Northern Ireland seems to be the hold-out. In other news, a major article about the risk to trans kids in the main Scottish newspaper was withdrawn and buried. Fortunately the internet never forgets and it is getting significant circulation. Also, a major UK court legal guidance document has been re-written to replace gender with sex and erase references to transgender people. The previous version was taken off the web. I’ll try to find a link. Anyway, glad to see you looking better!
@@joniroberta1950 Thanks! Anti-Trans activists have really left their stain on the U.K., the NHS, and British politics. Hate, segregation, and bigotry have no place in the modern world. Those who support such policies will only be remembered for their intolerance.
Yes, the Cass Review has already been cited by a least one right-wing judge in the US. That's why all medical associations need to publicly denounce it for what it is -- political "unsubstantiated" garbage.
I believe that the trans. movement is ahead of its time. I would have made serious moves to transgender at age 18. Stigma preculded it. I love to crossdress. I'd love to do it publicly. It's one step back and two steps foward in becoming mainstream.❤❤❤❤❤ to Dr. Jamie's following!!!
Really do hate these political footballs.i rerm3ber when gay rights where forged almost some 40 years back, im a little to optimistic but I see queer right following the same path. Dr Jamie keep up the good work. Lets all try to help were we can in our respective comunities, thereby makes queer folks part of our mosaic. Thank you! Yes, I believe we all have our part to play. There are some parallels to the backlash against gay rights and the current anti-gender movement. Acting locally is important as you say. Each of us has great power by simply being our true selves in the world. That is why so many would seek to hide us or erase us. Let’s not let them do that.
It is a big deal. The Cass Review is just an example how crazy life can be. Jamie, thanks you so much for addressing all the insanity. We are so lucky to have you keeping up the fight against the intolerance and hate. You're looking great!
Thank you! At this point, every time someone mentions the Cass Review in any sort of serious way, my first reaction is akin to disbelief and shock. It’s just that bad!

Wasn't Dr. Riittakerttu Kaltiala on the advisory board for (at least some of) the systematic reviews included in the Cass Review? She was involved in a study not too long ago that resorted to p-hacking in order to yield null results and has I believe around a decade or so of anti-trans advocacy. I am somewhat suspicious that she might be partially responsible for the reason that the systematic reviews ended up deviating in protocol from their pre-registration report. Supposedly she was also recently exposed for sexually abusive practices in her conversion therapy model of "care" -- namely instructing children to masturbate in order to overcome their dysphoria.
oh my god, as a transgender, thats HORRIFYING. if a psychiatrist told me that, i WOULD yell at them. plus, given extreme purity culture, that could... just make many situations worse, regardless of dysphoria...
I know that many physicians in the UK are appalled by the Cass Review and the new Labour Government’s complicity in its blatant bigotry. Transgender people deserve better than the Cass Review. No trans person should have to contact providers 130 times to get care.

Thank you for sharing a slice of your life with us. I just want to say, I see you and support you 100%, and I know others on this channel do too. Some parents struggle when we come out. I think it’s harder, the younger we are as so much of the misinformation targets trans youth. Even for those of us who are adults, our parents may display resistance as we transition. Sometimes, the only way to cut through this resistance is to show them how happy we are in our transitions. Joy and contentment are undeniable. It’s easy to get frustrated when someone is trying to argue with you about your personhood and using bad information. Stay true to yourself. Life is just to short not to be ourselves.

Thanks for sharing. I know some clinicians in Australia who are strong advocates of the gender affirming model.

One transgender woman in England contacted gender providers 130 times before care was accessed
