People that say: "Colombian meals are based on cocaine" or "All Colombians consume cocaine" are trying to be smart and funny, but are actually coming out as stupid. It's sad people judge an entire country based on a stereotype that all Colombians have been working so hard to get rid off.
We're a country full of incredible people, values, culture, music, food and more!🇨🇴
Viva Colombia!!!🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
Javier Santiago Reina Durán they do this with other countries too, not just yours. There's Germany, America, Asian countries ..etc

"Goddamnit, Colombia, you are just so good" BEST.COMMENT.EVER.
We know😌
I’m half Colombian
I love when the Americans try other foods on this show, they're so open minded and go in with a positive attitude =)
***** I know and its not even that they just don't go in with a positive attitude, you can already tell they heard all our food was crap "even though we mostly show them snacks not legit food" and they come in expecting it. If you go in with a negative attitude that's what you're going to get out of it......
The most positive people I seen on here were people from India trying American snacks and they loved most of them =)
Harvey Haze Because we have no culture to defend really. Americans are hungry for culture.
***** So the only thing you are saying we have is some food recipes and burgers, which you yourself said we as Americans should be tentative about being proud of? And "American" clothes, at least the ones that the mainstream wears, are designed by fashion houses outside of the US and by mostly non-Americans. How is that as deep a culture as the Hispanic culture of strong family ties, religious ceremonies like Quinceneras, vaqueros, a distinct style of food, and the way that they identify and bond with each other like with Si Se Puede? Or Chinese-Americans and the Chinese New Year, traditional dress, distinct artistic and architectural styles, again a specific type of food?
American "culture" is so globalized and driven by consumerism it doesn't feel comforting. McDonalds may be all around the world, but they don't serve the American menu everywhere- it is only the brand name recognition that has spread. And it is like that for most American things- our companies may be good at getting people to buy in to the "glamor" but beyond buying products and using them, there is no soul, nothing that you get for free, or are welcomed into.
***** It's a ridiculous statement on it's face. I wouldn't waste too much time talking to this person. Obviously sheltered in the most cultured open country on earth.
will b Actually I genuinely want to be proven wrong. Yesterday all I saw of 4th of July was people wearing brand new themed clothing, drinking, playing loud music and beer pong, and then an expensive fireworks show covered in its own cloud, and my underage brother wearing his brand new holiday-themed clothing cooking with beer, repeatedly saying"Merica" and drinking holiday-themed beer, I guess the reason I feel I have no culture is that I feel shamed and alienated by it. But there is definitely a culture there, I guess you could say. Vlad had a point about the music, it is a strong force in the industry, and it influences the music scenes in other countries to a large extent, which is good and bad, if you listen to the lyrics of American music compared with those of lyricists in other countries not represented by an American label. Maybe I am one of those over-educated soap-box hipsters but for me, experiencing other cultures is more satisfying than trying to fit into my own.
I'm honor of Colombia here is a Colombian empanada recipe:
INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tomato, finely chopped
6 green onions, finely chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 package Sazón Goya con azafran (saffron) (about 2 teaspoons)
1/4 cup coarsely chopped cilantro leaves
1 pound top round or skirt steak (or similar cut of pork)
3 beef bouillon cubes
1/2 pound yellow or white potatoes
3 cups yellow masarepa (precooked cornmeal or harina de maiz)
2 teaspoons sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil for frying
PREPARATION
Prepare hogao: Heat olive oil in a large stockpot. Add garlic, tomato, onions, cumin, goya seasoning, and cilantro and sauté over medium heat, stirring, until onion is very soft (about 12-15 minutes). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Remove hogao from pot and set aside in a separate bowl. Add the beef bouillon cubes to the pot.
Slice the beef into strips and add to the pot. Cover the meat with water, and bring to a boil.
Simmer beef until very tender when pierced with a fork, about an hour.
Peel and quarter potatoes and add to the beef, adding more water if necessary to cover the potatoes. Simmer until potatoes are very tender. Remove pot from heat and let the meat and potatoes cool in the broth.
Remove meat and potatoes into a separate bowl and set aside. Strain the broth into a large measuring cup and reserve.
Place the masarepa into a large bowl. Stir 1 cup of the reserved broth into the masarepa, along with 2 1/4 cups of hot water and the 2 teaspoons sugar.
Season mixture with salt and pepper and set aside for 10 minutes.
Finely chop the meat and potatoes. Stir the reserved hogao into the meat and potatoes and mix thoroughly, adding a little of the beef broth and slightly mashing the potatoes.
Roll the masarepa dough into about 40 golfball-size balls.
Working with one ball of dough at a time, flatten each ball into a 4 inch circle between 2 sheets of plastic wrap. Place a teaspoon or so of filling in the middle of the dough circle, and fold the circle in half to make a half moon shape that encloses the filling. Seal the edges with your fingers. Repeat with all of the balls of dough.
Preheat vegetable oil to 350 degrees. Fry empanadas in batches until they are golden brown (about 5 minutes). Drain on paper towels. Serve empanadas warm with aji sauce.
copy paste..

when they said the tongue they were eating was the entire tongue omg noooooooo lol cow tongue is HUGE ive seen it in mexican grocery stores and it's like 10x bigger
Hahaha yeah that's why I can never bring myself to buy it it's too big for only myself
+Frida Caro true, I had to peel that mother, I like the texture but it makes me feel sad eating it.
Whoa you had to peel it??? I've never bought tongue without it already being prepared so I have no idea how to cook it
+Frida Caro You cook it in the pressure cooker for about an hour or two, checking for doneness by stabbing it. Then you essentially peel it off
hahahahahaha I was gonna say the exact same thing, we also eat cow tongue in Panama and it is not the entire cow tongue it's just a lil' piece, the actual tongue is bigger of course hahahahahahahahhaaha IT IS DELICIOUS!!!!

Christian Ortega Por su textura
As a Colombian, this boosted my self esteem too much XD
Funny how when Americans try any kind of new food, they don't go in with a stereotypical mindset. As a frequent watcher of Buzz Feed videos, I can say that at lease 75% of other races/cultures that try any type of American food whether it be 'American' Chinese food or candy, they don't go in expecting to be surprised in a good way. That's just my observations and opinions.
Lillie McNall Bullfuckingshit.
JHowesitgoing123 What was the point of that comment? It was MY observations and MY opinions. If there's something in my comment you don't agree with, you could be respectful like the other response I got which gave me another way to look at things, unlike you.
My theory is that these taste testers can't cook so they're excited for everything they get to try. I hope that wasn't offensive lol
+Lillie McNall never really noticed that before but now that you mention it, i kinda see it and it really made me think. this is gonna be long: i'm american (but grew up on latin american food, myself) and i've noticed that americans definitely have an inferiority complex about their food sometimes. the stereotype is that american food is overly fatty and processed, huge portions, and much blander than other cuisines. generally speaking, we just don't have much pride about american food especially when pitted against other cultures. not like italians do, or indians, mexicans, or chinese. we generally have the notion that international cuisine is so much better than american food. except maybe british food, tbh, haha. sorry brits. plus, there's the stereotype that americans are uncultured, racist and arrogant so i feel like a lot of americans work towards being the opposite of that esp. when tasting the foods of other cultures in front of other people. they like to show enthusiasm instead of skepticism or risk being seen as uncultured/disrespectful. it's part of being a melting pot country, i think. i feel like other countries don't have to be as mindful of that so they don't mind seeming negative in their videos.
The urge to visit colombia has increased
Come on Buzzfeed tell me about another awesome country!
Michael Ross Man, that's all you've got?
😁😁 I hope you visit us soon.
Michael Ross Typical from an ignorant

The Chorizo is from spain, arepas are from venezuela... and so what? they are just trying the typical food that we eat here, like typical plates.
Just enjoy the video and that's all. We all know from where comes each kind of food.
No hate.
Laura Morales Alot of Woman LOVE the Chorizo ..Lol wink wink
Laura Morales Arepas are also from Colombia. Its a regional food, prepared differently depending on the region. I'm from Cartagena and ours is called the Arepa de Huevo and in Barranquilla, where i live, is called the same but prepared differently. And of course Cartagena has the best!
Laura Morales Not the same chorizo, and wrong, Arepa is not venezuelan, is regional.
Colombian variety of both are different.
Now try them together

Inka cola
Mmmm lomo saltado
Yes I'm Colombian but God I love Peruvian seviche! Makes me cry every time....
Yess finally people who want them to try peruvian food ¡Vamos Perú!
Cow tongue is actually not that popular in Colombia. Chicharron or Tamal would have been a much more common food to try.
+Alejandro Gonzalez It is in the coastal areas tho, more than Tamal
+General Bullet I'll give you that in the coastal areas, Tamal isn't that popular but, a lot more popular than tongue there is seafood. Especially "pescado guisado". They just make it sound on this video that Colombians eat tongue all the time and honestly, we don't!
+Alejandro Gonzalez It's quite popular in Antioquia, they have many different varieties. And near the cafetero region in Santa Rosa de Cabal... omg, their chorizo is incredible!!! My fiance is Colombian and I've been there a few times now, but I have never eaten tamal. Now - a Colombian taste test without bandeja paisa? I don't know... The chicharron needs to represent!!!
LOVED IT! Que viva Colombia!
OMG!!! you did it :D thank you so much for taking my request!!! :D Colombian food is the best! ever :D you should make a part 2 trying empanadas, frijolada, ajiaco, almojabana... or maybe one with snacks as chocorramo, gala, bon bon bum, jet chocolate, achiras ramo... I promise you're going to fall in love with all of them :D
