I like the flux binding with the offset centre so you can rotate to move the binding wider or more/less toe/heel overhang. Especially useful for smaller binding sizes.
I agree 100% !!! I wasted 2 pairs of union strata base plates in 2 seasons where everytime the minidisc broke through the base plate. Union gives a life time warranty on the base plate, so I got them replaced every time but it always took +3 months to actually receive them. They promise a lot on paper but their customer after sales sucks big time. No more minidisc or union for me ever again.
were you doing big lands in the park, or super-aggressive charging that put extra pressure on them both times to break them? or just both went at some point during the course of average riding?
@@RokSivante I think it was the butters that did it. I remember destroying the baseplate when I was doing BS 180 to tailpress + switch FS 180 out. I had a super flexible board back then (Batalion whatever)

Perfect explanation! Centering binding / boot with asym disk would change the feel of a binding I would think. So with bigger boots more deadspot on heel side, more play on toe side?
I have the Union Atlas from 3 or 4 years ago and I noticed that they milled out the bottom so there's less contact on the top of the board. So, big disc but still less surface contact than if they didn't mill it out. Kinda interesting.
Uncle Avran, can you get response and power from a mini disc ? Does added board feel help with response and power ? Or does only a larger disc? Allow that edge to edge response ?
Wondering: Do you have any experience with if a small or large disc makes you get loose mouting screws more easily? I am trying to find out what makes my son's bindings get loose all the time. We set up the boards together, but his has to be tightened during every run, since his front binding gets totally loose. He does a lot of full speed butters, park riding, all kindof spins and alrge jumps. He has a full size disk and I have a mini-disk setup. We have changed screws and use locktite. I guess all the buttering applies a lot of force on the bindings. So what do other people who ride like that or harder do as not to get loose screws every time they ride? This would be a good thing for a video.
Recently found out how little outside support there is on the baseplate of Union stratas after trying other bindings. Is there a word for how much the baseplate wraps around a boot? (not the ankle strap, but the "sidewalls" of the binding)
I have an older pair of Burton with Re.Flex disc. I didn’t feel any difference compared to 4x4 disk. I’m also only like 125lbs on a good day, maybe I don’t have enough weight to leverage and take advantage of the Re.Flex disk 🤷🏻♂️
@@michaeljaksa looove the ultras. Ultras just have such good flex for butters and grabs, and so much more comfortable than the cartels. The straps and the cushy pad and flexy reboundy highbacks. Cartels are super responsive. I found even in the woods on a pow day, the ultras had enough response to push thru turns. Cartels have that stiff exo strap which is great on toe but yoo stiff on heel I been keeping an eye for the leather straps to swap em out one day I think thats the way to go with the new gen cartels. Id probably only use the cartels on a stiffer board like a burton custom etc. the cartels feel bombproof and the ultras have some wear, parts are fraying after 50 days. But no perfoamance issues. Cartels with 100+ days on them still going strong AF
@@AngrySnowboarder ah sorry, I was wondering if your deadspot is the whole binding with the channel system as the old style bindings had the skrews on the outside
@@MrSaul04 Where the screw is you'll get a small dead spot. With EST bindings it creates a single dead spot on the right and left of the binding that was very minimal.
Do you prefer mounting 2x4 or 4x4 on your boards? And how much of a difference can you really tell if say I switched my rome vice's from 4x4 to 2x4 on my ravine?
Alright so I have been riding Nitro bindings since like 2017 because of the air heel. Did my 100- day seasons between 1994 and 2006 and weigh *at least* 230. Have not felt the edge power and responsiveness that I was used to on the older gear. But I don't want a super stiff binding. Any specific recommendation better than a Nitro Team for all mountain freeride?
Might be time to upgrade to the Phantom Plus if you like what Nitro has going on otherwise the 9/10 series from Ride or even a Cleaver from Rome or Atom from Bataleon.
All bindings flex on top of the board, with a mini disk it flexes more. If your screws aren't tight and the things going all disco foot you might have an issue.
@@AngrySnowboarder so fuck it I’m just getting other bindings I don’t trust only having these. What regular disk binding would you suggest on the DOA. Also gotta t-nut for that 26” stance width, hacksaw down your tips for lower swing weight, then throw some flowered shelf paper on the top sheet. Or just find an Avalanche Lunchtray 138.
It is worth mentioning that Union and Nitro discs cannot be mounted on 4x4 inserts pattern (slamback pack) with all 4 screws, their size allows 2x4 mounting pattern only. Rome and larger discs can.
I bought some falcors last year and my first mini disk and I love them
I have to say. This helped me understand why all these new binding companies are using smaller disc. Thank you
Thanks for the info. Never understood why the size of the disk played a role.

Flux bindings suck balls
Yeah all companies should do that
Nidecker/Flow has it, too.

Check the inserts on the board and see if there’s a little epoxy in the bottom. If there is you may need to tap it to clean it out.

You can do anything you want.

To an extent.
