I have had my second flipper for 10 years. Ive lost it at a beach, my cat stole it one time, cracked it chewing gum, and one time I laughed so hard it went flying out of my mouth in the middle of a dance floor. Honestly its helped me build character and looks are only skin deep but a smile a day keeps the dentist away😂
I am missing 5 front teeth now. Today I go to the denturist to get something made. I wonder if it is Not a flipper. I have had this 2 front teeth flipper for several yrs. Long story but got punched in the mouth by a drunk friend of the neighbor’s. It was the Fourth of July. So many Fourth stories, my mom died on the 4th of July. Anyway, I have been going to the dentist for months now and Today is the day, 11/27/23- It’s even my birthday. Idk what they are going to make for me but at least they arent adding to my current flipper (I so hope not) which seems almost impossible to me I also got over myself, so to speak when I had one front tooth missing. Then both- I laughed and said I look just like my second grade picture, that I haven’t changed a bit(in my 40’s at the time)right down to the red, white and blue I was wearing 🤣 I will have more confidence at this point tho. Ppl tell me it isnt that noticeable- but I notice and I am ready for a pretty smile. Grateful. So grateful.
I had a frnt tooth totally destroyed by eating lendil chocolate it took off the enaml on back of front tooth then drinking soda finished the job. DO NOT EAT CANDY DO NOT DRINK SODA OR SUGAR BEVERAGES!!!!!!
I had 2 teeth extracted it was thee worst extraction procedure ever. Gave me NOTHING “you have diastolic HF cant give you anything” im supposto go back for a bew tooth but traumatized
@@NABFIVEwhere was this about a year ago 😂 My front teeth are decaying and i’m trying to get a dentist appointment to check them out, one of them is sensitive asf so i’m pretty sure i’ll lose it (i think the others can be saved tho)
Thanks for the info, my aunt kept one for almost 2 years now, and it actually preserved her space pretty well as i didn't notice big shifting or significant bone atrophy.
Thank you for sharing, Dr. Rich. I'm using a flipper a cosmetic purpose, until the jawbone heal after prepping the site of my missing central incisor. My implant it should be ready in about 6 months. I know that my flipper is temporary, but I’m thankful… It takes away the shame of smiling and restore my confident!
I have been wearing a flipper for over 12 years, since I was 13. I was born missing two teeth on the top next to the front teeth. The flipper looks great and I am comfortable wearing it. The only down side is that I break them very often and they are expensive to replace. I have avoided the dental implants for a few reasons. Multiple doctors have told me that my implants would be relatively complicated. Two different doctors told me they were confident the surgery would be successful but they were honest in saying there were chances it could fail. Since I never had those teeth my bone is extremely thin so they would have to do bone grafting. They also explained that the front teeth can be more difficult than other areas of the mouth. The entire process was going to take close to 2 years and multiple surgeries. The bone grafting and implants seemed rather intrusive to me. They also wanted me to have braces again for about 6 months because 1 tooth is slightly twisted near the area of the implants. I can hardly afford any of this and none of it sounds enjoyable. My smile looks great with the flipper but I always break them. Should I upgrade to something else like the removable metal bridge?
I have also tried one of the flexible flippers. It was way more expensive than the regular flipper and very uncomfortable. I found the flexible material was hard on my gums.
A traditional metal frame partial denture should last longer than an all plastic flipper. Other possible options would be a Monodont bridge or a Maryland bridge.
Wow thanks for sharing. How often do you break them and how ? What's the cost to fix them ? Maybe you should research what's best for you if there's better options
@@treegee3143 I usually break or lose 1-2 per year. I’m lucky enough to have somebody who makes them for a decent price. I pay 325$ and they usually give me 2 for the price of one because I’ve been going there for years and they know I break them often. Eating is the most common way I break them but I’ve also broken them from dropping or crushing them somehow. I’ve lost a couple while swimming. I’ve even thrown one away on accident because it was wrapped in a napkin on my plate.
I've had my wired flipper for over 15 years. Its on an outer front tooth and you can see the wire when I smile, but honestly nbd. The dentist told me it would last long enough to heal up and get an implant. After a while I was just like meh, I'll just skip the implant.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental hello doc does the flipper help in holding the face muscles in longer run. I heard that missing tooth can lead to misaligned jaw structure.
My first partial was a flipper, although it could be flipped out with my tongue I was able to eat with it without any problem except for any sticky foods.
i find it so cool that the channel responds to all of the dental questions here. im just 21 but have weak teeth since birth so im about to have flippers on for 2 lower teeth thats been extracted. im a bit worried that id get a lisp/have difficulty talking once i have them since i do a lot of radio broadcast work :((
Hi, it will take a little bit of time to get used to speaking with the flipper in your mouth, be sure to practice. If you still lisp after practicing for a bit, let your dentist know what is happening. Thanks for watching!
I have one but it's with my retainer... I got braces before because my teeth were really crooked and one of the reasons it was that way is because my parents had one of my permanent tooth (the left lateral tooth) extracted. After my teeth aligned, my dentist said i should always wear my retainers that has that one false tooth. I hated that i had a missing tooth so this is a real confidence boost. I dont mind having to remove them while eating.. Im not sure about getting dentures or implants but maybe when i have money in the future, i might consider it.
Thanks for watching. Another option for a missing upper lateral incisor is either a Monodont bridge or a Maryland bridge. It stays in permanently without having to grind down the teeth on either side of the space like for a traditional fixed bridge. I made a video about Monodont bridges. ua-cam.com/video/u3P-n4Acw8E/v-deo.html
@@VeryNiceSmileDental thank you for introducing me to this type of bridge. I have a question: would it not affect my wearing of retainers if i get any of these two procedures done? I will check if my dentist is able to do this or maybe they can introduce me to someone who can and save up some money for this procedure. I would dislike to have dentures just for one tooth and this is a good thing for me that's only missing one of my lateral tooth. I have been really insecure about my teeth since it was crooked and even when i got braces, my front teeth still didnt align at the center... And having that gap when i smile really makes me feel insecure about my image when taking pictures and smiling. It wasnt really noticeable when i got braces but when i got them off, it's hard not to stare at it. Knowing this information makes me have hope in the future.
If you got either a Monodont bridge or a Maryland bridge, you would need a new upper retainer. If you got an implant you would need a new retainer too. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental thanks! It's probably going to take a long time hahaha since im still studying now and dont have a job yet but in the future i will definitely get the monodont bridge after some consideration.
My front tooth broke off at the gum line and flipper is a nightmare, all I feel is this awful glob of hard plastic in my mouth, I can’t concentrate on anything else when I wear it, all I do is suck on the plastic and it causes cotton mouth. My solution was to beg my dentist to cement my real tooth back in, and every now and then I put a teeny piece of DenTemp in to keep it secure. It works fine, I can even eat with it and my teeth look perfect.
Hey Doctor,I had a question,Is it okay to eat normal food while having the flipper inside the mouth or should it be removed every single time while having food
Hi it depends on the flipper. To be safe, always remove it before you eat. Some people tell me they forget and have no problem eating with it in place.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I recently got my flipper after my tooth extracted and I have ulcers on the upper palate where the flipper was placed. Is there something I can do that will help
Call your dentist. It sounds like you have some sore spots from the flipper. It needs to be adjusted. That's usually a quick visit. Let me know how it goes.
I have a flipper for my four front teeth. Ever since those teeth were removed, I've gotten progressively more insecure about smiling. People can tell they are fake. And they're a different color than my other teeth. Also, how do I clean them thoroughly?
Hi, best way to clean them is to use a toothbrush with dish soap and scrub them. Then you can soak them in a denture cleaner. If the color of the flipper doesn't match your teeth, you will need a new one made to match. Thank you very much for the question, and thank you very much for watching!
Thanks for the education of the flipper. I'm having a hard time deciding on what type of tooth replacement to get. I don't want an implant because I don't think a foreign object attached to my bone is good. It's one of my front teeth that I'll have to replace because the probe count is about a 9. What would you recommend Dr. Rich?
You may be able to get a fixed bridge if the teeth on either side of the tooth that you are losing are in good shape. Otherwise, you can get a removable bridge. Fixed bridges are usually more expensive than removable bridges. Talk to your dentist about what options you have for your particular situation.
Don’t be afraid of the implant. I’ve had to have 3. The process is long and they are expensive but TRUST ME, all the other alternatives SUCK! Once the implant is done it’s fantastic. One correction, bridges are good while they last. They will fail eventually though
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I didn't even know there were removable bridges! What might be good for a missing upper 3rd tooth or canine? I heard a Maryland bridge wouldn't work because of the small tooth next to it
I’m getting a flipper for 12-14. No metal. I’m so nervous. I’m single and so embarrassed. Can I eat with this? How long can they be used? I’ll be saving for implants for a while
What's the average cost of a flipper? I had a front-top incisor that I had broken as a child. In my teens I that same tooth required a root canal. In my early twenties, while I was in military boot camp, a replacement partial crown was being made after normal wear-and-tear and decay. While I was waiting for the permanent crown to be ready a temporary had been placed on my tooth. It fell off in only a matter of an hour or so, so they put more adhesive on to hold it in place. When I returned to have the permanent crown placed, the dentist went to remove the temporary and broke off what was left of the tooth. I was heartbroken. They ended up having to give me a Post & crown. This worked well for 30 years. During Covid lockdowns, both the Post and the Crown fell out. No injury or trauma, it just fell out. Because it was during lockdowns I couldn't go in to have it re-cemented back in so I found some dental cement on Amazon and attempted to repair it myself. This lasted about two months before it simply slipped out again. My dental insurance doesn't cover a replacement as they deem it "cosmetic." I don't understand this as it's a front tooth, it has everything to do with self-esteem and how a person bites their food! Anyway, the point is, I simply cannot afford the thousands of dollars to have a replacement crown or even an implant to replace this tooth. I'm curious to know the cost of a flipper to allow me to be able to speak and show my smile in public. I'm 57yrs old, a Navy veteran with no VA benefits, I work a decent job but just don't make the kind of money it would take to replace this tooth on a more permanent level.
Hi, the cost of a flipper will vary depending on where you live. At my office ballpark would be about $450. Your insurance should cover replacing a crown on a front tooth that you have had for years. If the tooth needs to be removed they may not cover an implant, but that depends on the specifics of the insurance.
Hi doc! Im missing four molars in the upper jaw and Im thinking of using a metal partial denture but I have many doubts and fears. Can I chew and eat well with it? Do the clasps damage the healthy teeth where they are attached? Is it definitely a good option today? Thanks!
Hi, thanks for the question. It depends on your particular situation. Which molars are you missing? Do you still have a tooth behind the missing teeth? If there is a tooth behind the missing tooth, it would help the removable partial work better. If there is no tooth behind the missing teeth, a removable partial won't work as well.
I have had a flipper for 2 months now, after a bone graft and pending an implant. Honestly, I find it far more comfortable than I feared, so mischievous so that I am considering foregoing the expensive implant.
I just got a bone graft and I'm supposed to get a permanent bridge but too expensive right now so I'm going for the flipper for now, hopefully I can do some light eating with it.
I just had a front tooth break off in my crown and it had to be removed. There wasn't enough bone for grafting so my dentist used bone from another part of my mouth. Unfortunately he said healing may take a year. Would the flipper be a good option and how do they match tooth color for the flipper tooth? Is the new nylon material widely used by dentists?
Hi, color matching is done the same as for a crown. Sometimes I will even send the broken crown to the lab so they can use it to color match. A flexible flipper may work, but you don't want to put any pressure on the bone graft as it's healing. A hard acrylic flipper or an essix retainer with a replacement tooth inside it (basically an Invisilign tray with tooth colored acrylic in the place where the missing tooth is) may be better options. Your dentist should be able to suggest which one is best for your situation. Let me know if you have any questions.
I had my tooth extraction (2nd upper premolar) last Saturday. So now I am thinking on what dental prosthesis. I am hesitant for dental bridge since need to scrape a good teeth or if any case 1 tooth will soon be extracted then I can no longer use the dental bridge. Yes implant is quite expensive. Will flexible flipper with metal support works?
I'm missing 3 teeth unfortunately. But they are in the back. On the bottom row, I'm missing 1 tooth. And the flipper works great, even tho no one can c it. One tooth isn't as bothersome and I forget its there
A flipper is much cheaper than a dental implant. A single tooth flipper cost about $550 in my office. An implant is around $4k. Implant is usually better, but I've have patients who can't have implants due to medical reasons.
I used to have a beautiful smile. People would often compliment me on my teeth. But an ex boyfriend changed all that when he knocked my front tooth out. Then Dentist decided to take out all of my back teeth, so I had no other choice, but to chew on my front teeth which started to chip. Now I look like a crackhead and I get treated like that as well. Once a bubbly, beautiful girl now I’ve become isolated and severely depressed. I no longer go out in public. I don’t go on date. I stopped going to my gym. It’s literally ruined my life.
In England many people repair their own teeth. They even sell missing teeth replacements in most shops here. Google missing teeth DIY replacement UK there are even sets for just 10 pounds which is around 10 dollar. Full dentures DIY home kit around 80 pound. Wish you all the best.
Thank you for this information. I haven't lost a tooth yet but one of my two front teeth is dropping. It's now a few mm below the other one. If I rub my tongue over the back of the tooth I can feel the hump of the tooth. I've been going to my dentist for the past 2 years asking if it can be saved or stopped from dropping and I've been told no that it will eventually just come out. I can't believe that nothing can be done to at least move it up back into position and put something in to hold it there rather than letting it drop out so something different and foreign can go in there. Do you have any advice you can give me. It would be much appreciated. Thanks.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Yes it is. There's bone loss. I've gone through one round with a hygienist and due to have the second round in a few weeks. The tooth aches when I'm using it to bite like an apple. If I press the gum above the tooth it aches. 🤦🏽♀️
Don't bite into things with that tooth, that will just make it worse. It sounds like your hygienist performed some scaling and root planing on that tooth to see if it will help.
After an extraction a Nesbit (not a flipper, but a unilateral partial) would be placed, right? But a month or more later the gums would change and a new Nesbit be needed, or just an adjustment?
Hi, when the nesbit or hard acrylic flipper is made, the lab takes healing into account before they make it. The lab will grind down the stone model in the area where the flipper will sit. I hope that makes sense.
Can anyone tell me where to get this type of flipper made for tooth 12? My dentist makes a clear full mouth light plastic piece with a tooth painted in it and it is not working for me. Any help would be appreciated
Hey doc maybe a quick video on tartar removal , is it dangerous, what do you need to know etc.? Sorry if it was done already. Like obviously tartar itself is terrible but sometimes it can get worse with some slopy work right :-D
@@VeryNiceSmileDental ye ofc! Just felt like its a very relatable topic to a lottttt of people, feels like almost everyone needs to get it done :-D and not that much information out there!
Hey Thank You. I have a Question! I have a front tooth implant that will not stay in i got 15 years ago. I am a singer and cannot sing without feeling that implant wobbling causing mild pain. I seem to have a couple options. Put the implant “to sleep” and get a traditional front tooth bridge using adjacent teeth or maybe I can just go back to a flipper for a while and see if I can still sing with it in!? This has been difficult for me because I have learned 500 songs and perform live but its become difficult and painful to deal with my 15 year old “friction post implant” meaning there is no screw to hold in the implant crown portion, only friction
Gotcha. You need to see a dentist who is familiar with Bicon implants. They work well but they are different to work with. If you are near Boston, MA you can go to Bicon, they have a clinic there, idcboston.com/ .
Hi Dr. Rich, I have damage to my bottom two molars because of poorly executed root canals as a teen. I plan on getting a nylon flipper on my right bottom molar that was extracted 3 months ago. I'm in pain on my left side and need a filling re-done. If that left lower molar is not able to be saved with a re-filling, I may need an extraction. I'm worried about not having at least one side of my mouth to chew on with my molars while I save for implants. Which ik will take 2-3 years especially since I'm a college student and my tuition is sky high. Should I get the flipper first on the right molar(already extracted) or the filling redone/possible extraction on the bottom left molar first? I know that financially, there will be at least a 3-4 week gap between the two procedures, if not 2-3 months.
I have a flipper just got it this week, I can eat soft foods, eggs, soup, mashed potatoe with it, I was just told no coffee or juice that may stain it, I like how it looks , only thing I really don't like is how the roof of my mouth feels, it is a partial top flipper and I feel like there is a hump on it when i wear it, is this normal?
Yes that hump you feel is normal. That's the back part of the flipper that helps it stay in place. Your tongue should get used to the feeling in a few days. It's like wearing a watch or ring. At first you notice it but then you forget you're wearing it.
Hi, yes it's possible to get a one tooth partial denture for a back tooth. You may be able to get a metal framed partial made, it depends on your situation. Talk to your dentist.
Like your video. Questions? I have a 3 front top flipper. I have had it almost a year. They told me to wrap it in a wet paper towel when not wearing it. Is that the right thing to do? Also my lips get dry when wearing it. Anything I can do?
Hi Heather, you can also use a denture box or retainer box to store it. Just put a little bit of water in the box. The problem with using a paper towel is that some people forget that the flipper is wrapped in the towel and through it out by mistake. It's happened to several of my patients over the years. For dry lips, use some lip balm. I always have a tube of chapstick or something similar in my pocket. Get one that has some SPF 15 in it to help protect your lips from too much sun. Thank you very much for watching.
just got a flipper recently,, i lost the tooth on my 18th birthday last weekend at a band competition we were in silver dollar city and i had gone on outlaw run (a ride there) with a bunch of friends and one of the girls a few seats in front of me left her phone in her back pocket on the last dip it flew out and hit me in the face. it hurt so bad and i was so upset when i found out they wouldn’t be able to put a crown on the tooth since the crack went all the way up the root. im glad i have the flipper now tho idk what i would do without my dentist they were all so nice and made sure to try there best to see if they could save the tooth and i appreciate them so much for that
Hi doctor, just got my molar removed today, may i know when can i start wearing a flipper? Do i need to wait for the wound to completely heal like a month?
Hey doc , it's been about 3-5weeks of having my canine extracted , it's healed pretty well , I want to go for a flipper but I'm not sure if I should wait a little longer , it's still hurts when I put pressure at the top of that area by the bone inside my mouth , I'm not planning on getting a dental implant either
I just got a flipper tooth...my front tooth..it is very uncomfortable and so tight that I keep injuring top of the inside of my mouth trying to pry it off. Is it not made correctly? Where can I have it checked out? or adjusted? I am in AZ.
Hi, go back to the dentist that made it and get it adjusted. Sometimes it will feel comfortable at first but then cause an issue when you wear it for a period of time. Hopefully it will be a simple fix. Please let me know how it goes.
I have a flipper, never wear it. I complained that I forget and my dental hygienist suggested I try sleeping with it to build the habit until I miss it when I'm not wearing it.
Hi i have a question for you doctor as i have searched extensively about dental implants.there is a failure chance. So my situation is i have to get my bottom left 1st or maybe its the second molar teeth extracted and i dont want to get dental implant as i am aware it can be rejected by the body, can get infected and so on. So what is the best thing to do is it a flipper or as we say partial denture. The other drawback is i dont have enough time as i have to move somewhere where the dental work is very expensive so if any future problem arises with my dental implant if i get it.i wont be able to afford the dental fee so thats again my reason not to get dental implant. Please help me out as i am also concerned about my teeth shifting.
Hi, if it's a second molar, most of my patients don't replace it. To replace a first molar, my first choice is a dental implant. Other options would be a three tooth fixed bridge or a removable partial denture.
I’ve never had a flipper, but I’ve put in thousands of them over 57 years. Now I’m 78 and have lost my first tooth due to a crack into the furcation after a root canal. Obviously, I hate to have the tooth removed, I know it’s needed. It’s #14 and not needed for aesthetic reasons, but still….. What I need to say is that I won’t have an extraction, bone grafts, implants, and a new gold crown at my age. I can go on living, whatever time I have left, missing #14, but not spending thousands of dollars!
I did just place and restore a dental implant on an 87 year old. They lost a tooth due to decay. I placed the implant at the extraction visit, and restored it 3 months later.
I went to mint dentistry in Dallas Texas they told me it takes 2weeks for a flipper to be made and I think it's bs 😒 i ready to get my teeth pulled without a whole being noticed i just want to know if that time frame I'd correct when technologyis so advanced tha the pony express still has service
Turn around time will depend on the dental office and dental lab. In my office, a hard acrylic flipper can be made overnight, a flexible one takes a week or so. Some dental offices have in house dental labs and can make a flipper the same day.
I just got one yesterday because as a kid I had my #8 tooth knocked out from a dog attack and it was put back in and lasted 17 years and it broke so I got a flipper for now
A knocked out tooth lasting 17 years is great! I had a patient that had one that lasted 50 years before it needed a root canal. Thank you very much for watching!
Wow, this is a very good channel. Subscibed. Hi doc, i have low grade infected #29 and #30 extracted 2 wks ago. I planned to have two implants. Now i have second thoughts. I have many metal fillings on top and bottom molars since i was a kid. I have two titanium implants on front top and two titanium implants on front bottom. If i have two more implants, there are two much metal in my mouth, i think. It could have battery effect. In addition, I'd like to have plasma allergy test before another implant. I'm afraid of possible inflammation overload. What do you think of my concern? What do you think about the flipper for #29 and #30. I have #31 and #32. Thanks.
Hi, I have patients who in addition to having 8 dental implants in their mouths also have two artificial hips. I don't believe you getting two more implants should be a concern unless you have an actual allergy to the metal used. You could replace #29 and 30 with a flipper but I don't recommend eating with it.
Hi Doctor! My dentist is saying I need Alveoloplasty before I can have a lower 4-tooth partial put in. I'm having those 4 teeth extracted anyway. Is there a way around having Alveoloplasty? It's a VERY expensive procedure! Thank you.
Hi, if you feel unsure about what your dentist recommends, get a second opinion. I usually try to avoid alveoloplasty but in certain situations it's necessary.
Hi, i recently visited a dentist for first time in ages because my front tooth is severely loose and can fall out anyday now. My teeth are in really bad shape and they just kept pushin for All on 4 implants but i cannot afford the crazy quote they gave me. Should i just insist they extract my tooth and give me a flipper or should i find another dentist cus i kinda felt like a walking money $$$ sign to them. Also can an extraction and partial denture/flipper be done same day? Thanks.
Hi, you should get a second opinion. As to same day, I usually take an impression before pulling the tooth so the flipper is ready to be fit the day I remove the tooth. If the tooth is really loose, then it should be removed first and then have the flipper made.
Hello sir, I have a question it’s not really related to this, well it is. I have to have 4 wisdom teeth pulled, 3 molars and my from right k9 removed. I was told I can get this flipper, but my question is, is the pain from the extractions going to be like tooth/nerve pain?. I’m already terrified of the dentist, and I am having horrible anxiety about it.
I purchased a flexible single tooth partial online and it doesn't seem very flexible to me, I'm wondering if maybe it is acrylic? Can you tell me how to tell the difference? What material is the picture you show in your video of the single tooth flipper? Thank You
Hi, the single tooth flippers in the video are made out of a flexible nylon material. A common brand name is "Valplast". There are other similar materials and brands. The thicker the material is, the stiffer it will feel. Regular denture acrylic will have no give to it and is usually a little more opaque looking than the flexible material. Have a photo you could email me of the partial? I may be able to tell from just looking at it. Did the place you ordered your partial from tell you what it was made out of?
This is so helpful! I'm old and not up for dental trauma, my lip covers the gap, and I just want something I can chew with-edgewise potato chips wreak havoc on unprotected gums. Hoping to go for the nylon rather than the acrylic. Question: I enjoy (gently) chewing crushed ice. I imagine that's bad, but how bad is it?
Hello Doctor. Would you recommend a flipper for a tooth #12? I am terrified of an implant, but was told that there is a possibility of a bone loss if one uses a flipper. Is that true? Also, is it true that the flipper (whatever makes it hang on to other teeth) damages the nearby teeth? So confused! Would you please comment? Thank you!!!!
Hi, I have made flippers for missing #12's. Anytime a tooth is missing, bone loss will occur in that spot. A flipper will help keep the other teeth from shifting. Long term a flipper can affect the teeth to which it attaches.
Do you remember taking it out? My patients tend to take out their flippers and wrap them in a tissue or paper towel. Then they throw out the tissue by mistake.
The partial denture puts extra forces on the remaining teeth to support the missing teeth. If the remaining teeth aren't in good condition, the partial denture will just make them fail sooner.
I see some unilateral partials in your video. When I first started as as dental tech.50 years ago we made a few of them. After a few years we stop making them as their was a greater chance of them dislodging and the patient either swallowing or choking on it.
Growing up, my aunt had a metal framed Nesbit partial (unilateral partial). With the introduction of the flexible acrylic, unilateral partials seem to stay in the mouth much better.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental You are probably right but even flex partials are meant to be removed and due to the small size if they are dislodged by certain foods can either be swallowed or stuck in the throat.Instead of unilaterals I design the partials using a lingual bar which attaches to the opposite side. The larger size greatly reduces the chance of swallowing or choking on the partial.
I do the same when I'm making a permanent removable partial bridge. The flexible unilaterals are usually for people who are going to get an implant in the next year or two and don't want the expense of a metal framed partial.
Hi i have a appointment with the dentist soon. I want a single tooth flipper for my molar tooth which was extracted few years back. Doctor please suggest what type of flipper I should tell my dentist to make ? I mean the material, clasp type or any other specification you may recommend to your patients.

If not comfortable then I will go for implant. So I wanted to know what type of flipper u may suggest for comfort , good gripping and long lasting. Thanks
Hello doctor just an update I tried with Flipper. It did not suit me as per my eating habits. I will be going for a dental implant or keep it as it is. I think Flipper is a good option for molar teeth for those who can manage with soft food with limited intake that too at fixed intervals. Also getting proper fit for the flipper is very crucial. Probably I will give it a try again if required at an older age. right now I m 35 years old.

@@VeryNiceSmileDental It is not flexible, so it must be hard acrylic. It is very uncomfortable and hurts when I place it in my mouth. I think it has rubbed into the implant and so I am having a sore spot. on my gum.
I only have 3lower incisor( dont have no.23) i inherit it from my mom.Im planning to get a braces so i can fit a flipper in it.And also I dont have first molars in both lower sides of teeth. And i learned that its possible for brace to fill those missing parts if i pull my 2nd and 3rd molar forward.I just wanna ask,if i pull my molars forward,is it okay if i only have upper 3rd molar(wisdom tooth) and dont have in the lower?
See an orthodontist to find out what your options are, lots of times braces can hide the fact that you have a missing lower incisor. The orthodontist may be able to align your teeth and it won't be noticeable at all.
I am in the experimental stage of getting a flipper at present the flipper is the wrong color, very bulky, I can't talk properly, the gumline is not straight, and my dentist doesn't really want to fix it, she says that's the way it is. I really don't want to pay for something that does not do the job, Any advice anyone?
Yes I have a flipper. Just got it 3 days ago. Hate it. I don’t really consider it a temporary solution at $500 to decide upon what I want to do. I wish I would have known about the nylon material available in newer flippers. That might feel better. It is very poor fitting and I can’t even completely close my bite. Wasn’t told that I can’t eat with it. I had to figure that out on my own.
You should see your dentist and get your flipper adjusted. It should blend in when you bite down. My patients seem to prefer the flexible nylon flippers over the hard acrylic. When you see your dentist for an adjustment, talk to them about your issues with the flipper.
@ICU349 Sorry to hear about your situation. Flippers can be uncomfortable especially after an extraction. Be sure to see your dentist to get it adjusted. I usually tell people that a flipper is mostly for looks. Some people can eat with them but not everyone.
Hi, what kind of flipper? The hard acrylic type can be fixed with a denture repair kit, something like this should work and you can find it on Amazon, amzn.to/3iiq5wx. It's the same material as the hard flippers. If it's a flexible type of flipper, you can't repair those reliably, you will need a new one.
Hi doctor I have two missing teeth, both are first molar and lower teeth. I still have tooth behind the missing teeth. I don't like the idea of permanent dental implant. What dentures options would you recommend for me? or should I not put anything to replace them and wait until my wisdom teeth fully grown? (They are now growing but not full)
I have had patients who lost their first molars at your age and the wisdom teeth and second molars shifted forward to fill the space. Talk to your dentist or orthodontist to see if that's a possibility in your case, that would be better than a removable bridge.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental are they shifted without brace? I talked with my orthodontist and she said I can use the brace to pull my second molar and wisdom backward to make space, then put denture later on. I prefer the scenario you mentioned with your patients doc.
Talk to your orthodontist if they can pull the molars forward. The person I saw never saw an orthodontist, his teeth just shifted by themselves over the course of a year or so. They weren't perfect but better than having a large empty space. I haven't seen him in awhile since he joined the army.
Hi, I don't recommend flippers to replace 2nd molars. 95% of my patients don't bother to replace missing second molars. The other 5% have gotten implants to replace their 2nd molars.

@@VeryNiceSmileDental I've seen them done online but I can't find the link anymore, that's why I've come to UA-cam hoping to find it...the price was $300
The DIY flippers available online require you to take your own impression. Also most flippers need follow up adjustments. Ask your dentist how much they charge for a flipper before you commit to a DIY flipper. The ads I've seen on Facebook charge more than what I charge in my office.
Hi there, I hope it’s okay to ask this question. But I have to get a temporary front flipper due to a fracture. How secure are they for oral sex and kissing? I’m really insecure about getting one. Thanks In advance.
Hi, thanks for the very interesting question! Which type of flipper are you getting? The flexible plastic ones tend to stay in place better than the hard acrylic ones. You still need to be careful with it. Kissing will probably be ok, oral sex may not be. Thank you very much for watching.
No worries, I appreciate the questions. A flipper is a type of removable bridge. It's usually only one or two teeth, made out of all plastic, and tends to be less expensive than a traditional metal framed removable bridge.
My Dentist accepts my insurance so xray's, extractions etc were covered I paid $950 dollars for my immediate dentures as my insurance will cover the permanent ones a cost of $1,200. So so expensive for dental if you have no ins or if the dental office does not accept it.

@@VeryNiceSmileDental is that to long to wait? Definitely don’t want it to get crazy worse. Thank you for actually responding this has been a lot for me !
It depends on what is going on with your tooth. If there is no active decay, it may stay somewhat stable for a bit (a few months) before it bothers you. If it has active decay, it can break sooner rather than later. It's always better to get it taken care of as soon as you can. Ask your dentist for their opinion. Explain your situation to them.
I have had my second flipper for 10 years. That's incredible. What is the manufacturer? What is the product called?
Is it a front tooth flipper?
I just got mine in 4 days ago and the information here helped alot!

Love, Love The flipper! 😊
Awesome! How was your experience?
Just got a flipper and it works and feels great. NOT doing implants!
Thank you for sharing. Which tooth did you replace?
Why aren’t you doing implants ??
My front tooth broke off at the gum line and flipper is a nightmare, all I feel is this awful glob of hard plastic in my mouth, I can’t concentrate on anything else when I wear it, all I do is suck on the plastic and it causes cotton mouth. My solution was to beg my dentist to cement my real tooth back in, and every now and then I put a teeny piece of DenTemp in to keep it secure. It works fine, I can even eat with it and my teeth look perfect.
Thank you very much for watching.
How is it going?

Hi, so is the flipper replacing just one tooth?
Yes
I couldn't speak well with mine, the lisping was just unattractive. It ended up sitting.
I have had a flipper for 2 months now, after a bone graft and pending an implant. Honestly, I find it far more comfortable than I feared, so mischievous so that I am considering foregoing the expensive implant.
wow! for real? I thought it would be annoying. Especially with eating. This is super interesting to read.
Hi Oudeh is been wearing his flipper for 1 day and been working on his teeth for 1 year?
I had my tooth extraction (2nd upper premolar) last Saturday. So now I am thinking on what dental prosthesis. I am hesitant for dental bridge since need to scrape a good teeth or if any case 1 tooth will soon be extracted then I can no longer use the dental bridge. Yes implant is quite expensive. Will flexible flipper with metal support works?
Hi, a dental implant would probably be the best solution, but a flexible flipper should work too.
I'm missing 3 teeth unfortunately. But they are in the back. On the bottom row, I'm missing 1 tooth. And the flipper works great, even tho no one can c it. One tooth isn't as bothersome and I forget its there
Is it cheaper? Wonder why my dentist don't offer this? I don't have 6k for dental implant..how much is it?
A flipper is much cheaper than a dental implant. A single tooth flipper cost about $550 in my office. An implant is around $4k. Implant is usually better, but I've have patients who can't have implants due to medical reasons.
What are the apx. cost of a single tooth flipper? If it matters, it's the front tooth on the bottom.
Hi, cost will vary from office to office. In my office just outside of NYC it's $550.

It does take time since they have to be custom made for each situation.

Gotcha. You need to see a dentist who is familiar with Bicon implants. They work well but they are different to work with. If you are near Boston, MA you can go to Bicon, they have a clinic there, idcboston.com/ .

Hey doc , I actually want to get me a flipper for my canine. I got it removed yesterday how long do I have to wait to go in for dentures? The flipper
Anytime. The longer you wait the better it will fit, the extraction site will shrink as it heals.
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Definitely get the pain taken care of first before it gets worse.
Thank you so much video is so helpful
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Is it possible to get a partial denture for one tooth missing on top and bottom? Idk if my dentist would do it if its in the back teeth
Thank you very much for watching.
just got a flipper recently,, i lost the tooth on my 18th birthday last weekend at a band competition we were in silver dollar city and i had gone on outlaw run (a ride there) with a bunch of friends and one of the girls a few seats in front of me left her phone in her back pocket on the last dip it flew out and hit me in the face. it hurt so bad and i was so upset when i found out they wouldn’t be able to put a crown on the tooth since the crack went all the way up the root. im glad i have the flipper now tho idk what i would do without my dentist they were all so nice and made sure to try there best to see if they could save the tooth and i appreciate them so much for that
Sorry to hear about your situation. Thank you very much for watching.
Hi doctor, just got my molar removed today, may i know when can i start wearing a flipper? Do i need to wait for the wound to completely heal like a month?
Hi, for some cases I will fit the flipper the same day I pull the tooth.
I had my flipper done on my front tooth since 2013.
Hi, which tooth?
Hey doc , it's been about 3-5weeks of having my canine extracted , it's healed pretty well , I want to go for a flipper but I'm not sure if I should wait a little longer , it's still hurts when I put pressure at the top of that area by the bone inside my mouth , I'm not planning on getting a dental implant either
Hi, have your dentist take a look to make sure you don't have an infection. 3-5 weeks out, you should be okay to have a flipper made.
I don't recommend wearing flippers, partial dentures, or full dentures when you sleep. Thank you very much for watching.

Sorry to hear that you lost your tooth. I usually don't recommend flippers for back teeth.

My front tooth on my flipper broke what should I do
Call your dentist.
Hi, people tell me pain after an extraction is more of a soreness than the sharp, intense pain of a toothache.
Didn't know you could order them online
@@VeryNiceSmileDental What is your email please?
This is so helpful! I'm old and not up for dental trauma, my lip covers the gap, and I just want something I can chew with-edgewise potato chips wreak havoc on unprotected gums. Hoping to go for the nylon rather than the acrylic. Question: I enjoy (gently) chewing crushed ice. I imagine that's bad, but how bad is it?
Nice and informative thanks
You're welcome, thank you very much for watching!
@@VeryNiceSmileDental thank you so much for your response, Doctor!
I'm missing one canine tooth, would I be able to get a single tooth denture for that and still eat with it in?
Hi, maybe but don't count on it. The canine is one of the strongest teeth in your mouth, it's difficult to replace it.
Don’t know where my flipper went to have my upper partial and I’m still wondering where it’s gone did I swallow it? I think it went down the drain.
Do you remember taking it out? My patients tend to take out their flippers and wrap them in a tissue or paper towel. Then they throw out the tissue by mistake.
1:44 that metal partial there, can that be made for the upper with a canine tooth and a front molar on each side?
Yes as long as the rest of the teeth are in good condition.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental why does that matter?
The partial denture puts extra forces on the remaining teeth to support the missing teeth. If the remaining teeth aren't in good condition, the partial denture will just make them fail sooner.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental oh okay thank you!
I want to get some dental implants but to costly. Thinking about doing this temporarily. How much does this cost?🤔
I read 300-500 dollars but it depends on how many and other factors
Hi, cost will vary from office to office. I usually charge around $500 for a single tooth flipper.
Hi i have a appointment with the dentist soon. I want a single tooth flipper for my molar tooth which was extracted few years back. Hi, is a dental implant an option for you? How long do you need the flipper for?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental yes dental implant is possible for me as per my dentist. But I want to first give flipper a try. If I m comfortable I may continue with it lifelong. If not comfortable then I will go for implant. So I wanted to know what type of flipper u may suggest for comfort , good gripping and long lasting. Thanks
For a long term replacement option that is removable, I usually recommend a metal framed partial denture, especially when replacing a molar.

Had four teeth extracted yesterday with two implants. Lower front. I am NOT liking how the flipper feels or fits. I don't know if it is just because I am not used to it yet or if I need to go to my dentist to have it adjusted. What do you think?
Hi, what type of flipper is it, hard acrylic or flexible ? What don't you like about in particular? Do you have any sore spots on your gums?

Hi, what do you mean by "experimental stage" ?
Hi , Could dental adhesive or a dental glue be used on a Nesbit ?
Denture adhesive can be used but it should stay in well without it. If it doesn't stay in by itself, don't wear it and see your dentist asap.
Thanks so much for the response 😊
You're welcome!

@@VeryNiceSmileDental Mostly for looks? But you said in the video that they are important for preventing the surrounding teeth from drifting.

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Can you replace the ones you don't like?
How do you fix a flipper when the front tooth breaks off....can i use epoxy that's all i have
Hi, what kind of flipper? The hard acrylic type can be fixed with a denture repair kit, something like this should work and you can find it on Amazon, amzn.to/3iiq5wx. It's the same material as the hard flippers. If it's a flexible type of flipper, you can't repair those reliably, you will need a new one.

I talked with my orthodontist and she said I can use the brace to pull my second molar and wisdom backward to make space, then put denture later on. I prefer the scenario you mentioned with your patients doc.

Where can I get a flipper in San Diego area?
Most dental offices can make you a flipper.
