Watching this videos made me realized, i got ripped off by not explaining this really well before even offering the immediate denture!! Thank you for educating us!! Love your videos
@@rochellecorlett8263 I am still having problems 14 months letter. My Dentist didn't explain anything. I had no clue. She gave me 2 options. I thought I was getting healing immediate dentures. It was and still is a nightmare. My cost was $14,000 or option 2 was $11,000. I would fill this page with all that happened.
I had to have 13 extractions. Most of them were teeth that were broken of at the gum. 5 of them were the top front teeth that were jagged. My dentist was very up front with me and made sure that I knew the pros and cons to immediate dentures and permanent dentures. I have chosen to heal completely before getting my permanent dentures. I am getting the top denture and a partial for my bottom. It's hard to have the patience but it is the best choice.
I went the other day and he said you can either have partials all in the back or we can take all out and I have cavities in every tooth so I chose to get them all pulled but not at once he’s puking the backs and then my front tops and bottoms. I think this is the best thing for me what do you think?
I'm getting my immediate dentures next week. I'm so anxious. Our teeth are not just tools, they are part of how we are perceived by the world. I won't 'just' be adjusting physically, but my self-identification will be adjusting too. I know that it will be a long process. I expect pain. But preparing with realistic expectations will help me a lot. My dentist didn't explain anything. Just did an impression, then told me I would have all my teeth pulled & go home wearing the dentures. I never heard of this method. I think that she should have told me more or given me some literature to take home with me. Thank God for UTube. I really appreciate that you made this video. I'm making a list of helpful videos to recommend. You will be at the top. Thanks.
That is the way I got my denture put in. It was a two step process where I had some teeth pulled and a partial that I wore for a while.. They made the denture and when I had the other teeth pulled they put on the denture and I went home with it in. What may happen is that there will be too much material on the gum portion of the denture that the dentist will file away so that it looks natural in your mouth. So don't freak out if it sticks out too far of you think you look weird. It can be fixed so you will be happy. You should have an appt with your dentist the day after you get your denture
@@annestep6741 she didn't see me for 2 weeks. She did adjustments, & I see her again in a week & a half. My bottom denture comes out so easily it's embarrassing, & the top is hard to remove. My mouth is still sore, which the pain level varies with everyone. I still need to take something for pain most nights. I despair of the top & bottom lining up enough to chew real food. But I guess it's all a process. I hear that it takes 3 to 6 months for most people to adjust to their dentures. As the adventure progresses... BUT I am happy that my smile looks great. That's a relief at least.
thank you very much for explaining the process here. I have had an upper plate for more years than I can remember and am on my 3rd one. I have had it maybe 10 years and it is still perfect. I wear no adhesive at all. I also have a partial on the lower in the front and still have some molars that it connects too. I was fortunate that my dentist always has done a great job making the teeth look right, pretty and fit well. The first one I got freaked me out because it had too much product that made my lip stick out. When I went in the next day he took off all the excess and all was great. It is very traumatic for people and it helps if your dentist is aware and thoughtful when helping a patient adjusting to wearing a denture. Kindness and extra care go a long way to making a person needing a denture feel normal. I plan on keeping the teeth I have left so I won't need a lower plate. I understand they can be hard to deal with. I certainly can't afford implants
@@jojosjoyfuljourney I think the goal of any good dentist is to keep what teeth you have rather than pulling them. No treatment is cheap. I would have the root canal and bridge. Bridges are permanent so there is nothing to feel uncomfortable. I may not be understanding your question but I am assuming you will only need a bridge if you have the tooth pulled? I have a cantilever bridge on my right lower. It attaches to two molars and the last molar is fake. I have had no issues at all with this for many years now. It is just like having all 3 teeth. Having a tooth pulled may be cheaper than a root canal but I don't think it is the best option since the goal should be to keep all your teeth intact until you die. The other option in my opinion would work too but not the best option unless the tooth is really damaged.
I just got a partial and a top plate replaced and they work well .my friend called to get a replacement cost and she was told 4000.00 . Why I didn’t pay that for mine
I appealed my insurance and they now have approved my upper partial denture! I got 7 teeth out today including my front teeth. From canine to canine.. I have to wait about 3 weeks until my partials are done. I was lucky to get a good impression before the extractions!
In my treatment plan and explanation my dentist made it clear that there were the immediate dentures and then the 2nd set. He included both with costs in plan and went over it with me. I would hope every dentist did that but apparently they don't.
I prefer to let the gums heal when I have mine pulled, but sadly it won't be an option and I will have to have immediates in place ... can't work in a face to face environment without teeth
Haven't started the process or the decision yet so, I really appreciate this information today and you explained it well . Now to find a Dentist I can trust !
I had all 17 teeth pulled 11 days ago. My insurance paid for everything. I go every week for a checkup. I have so many bone shards, the dentist won't take them out yet. He said he wants the gums to heal more before he makes the decision to get the shards out. Cannot do impressions until the shards get removed. Its a bit maddening for me, I just have to be patient. Can't wait to get my dentures.
Thank you so much…I’m facing getting dentures and you answered a lot of things that my dentist didn’t address because of lack of time. I’m 77 yo woman and was hoping my teeth would last a lifetime given how much I’ve been to the dentist but decay won. Freaked out by the thought of dentures.
Glad it was helpful! I've had many people tell me the worst part of getting dentures was wrapping their heads around the idea that they are getting dentures.
If id had you for a dentist i would have gone more often. All but one dentist ive been to shwendled me out of so much money. The one that didnt sadly passed away 5 years ago. Thank you for the info, will be soon getting dentures.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental unfortunately I have severe gum disease now, and doubt any can be saved. But I'm hoping dentures will give me back my confidence and good eating habits. Thank you for your concern. 🙂
It took me 5 years to even get a partial in Hawaii. Most dentists here just want to do implants and make tons of money. Finally found a dentist. Thank goodness!
I'm glad to hear you found someone who can help you. I believe that in the near future it's going to be difficult to find a dentist who can make a good removable partial denture or a good full denture. It's already getting difficult to find a lab that can make good removable partial and full dentures.
My dentist told me she would just do the adjustments for nothings as long as I’m not coming in everyweek because my insurance only covers so many a year luckily she is really nice and listens to what I want and they fit really well
I'm 64 and a 100% disabled veteran, so I am entitled to full dentistry support through the VA and I meet my dentist this Wednesday for the first time. I have to tell you that I'm both scared s$@tless and look forward to getting full dentures. I'll have to have all my remaining teeth pulled and I am most concerned about being able to chew most foods and fully taste food. I don't even know what questions to ask. I'm blessed in a way because I'm not really hindered by cost. I need help.
Hi, let your dentist know your concerns when you meet them. Depending on your situation, the dentist may suggest immediate dentures. I made a video discussing the things I look at when I recommend getting immediate dentures, ua-cam.com/video/C4hreao8ty8/v-deo.html
He makes a very important point. Don't be shy. 1) You must discuss your expectations in advance, as to whether you want perfectly looking dentures vs. copying old imperfections. 2) HUGE leap of faith having all your teeth pulled, then assuming your immed or regular dentures are gonna fit. 3. Buyer beware! Getting suckered into a "point of no return" by a very friendly-sounding dentist, who may eventually get sick of making adjustments, is not fun! BINGO!! that's me...fighting with the owner of the dental practice because nothing was discussed up front, with the guy featured in the friendly TV commercial.
Thank you for your straight to the point advice....I'm so sick of dentists sugar coating everything and hurrying through the appointment to get to the next patient to increase the size of their wallets
Thank you so much. I'm going thru it bad right now and don't know what to do. I smiled all the time, not so much at all. My confidence and mental state have been super jilted and knowing how much implants are but how programmed I have been to fear dentures have really made it impossible to do much but just feel stuck and almost ignore the problem, which feels ignorant and like I've given up on myself... But after watching your video, you just made me not feel so alienated and alone. Thank you so much. I never EVER comment on people's videos, I rarely even hit like buttons.... But I did both here because you really hit a nerve (no pun intended) and it was like I was having a conversation with a good friend that wasn't judgemental, and was very informative and sincere. Thanks. You helped me a lot. 🙏
I got all teeth extracted & immediate dentures 3 weeks ago. In 6 months I will get another impression & receive permanent dentures. Aspen Dental $13,000. I financed it through care credit.
I am in the remove stage now. I have 8 more of my teeth to be remove my insurance is paying for my dentures top and bottom. I was offer Immediate dentures, but I denied it for the full set and proper fittings and plus my teeth are lose to the point where if I drink cold water my teeth will hurt badly.
I'm having a hard time deciding on dentures or snap in although I'd rather get snap in dentures. Especially I heard the bottom dentures can move around more unlike snap in.
The dentist should tell the patient what the charges are going to be. The dentist I went to charged over $7000 to extract 3 teeth. Never told me there are immediate dentures vs regular dentures. He just said that the dentures will be ready immediately after the extraction. They fit horribly. They are so thin. I can't bite or chew! I got robbed
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I have a lot of damaged and missing teeth and finances are a problem. My guess is dentures. Possibly uppers now followed by lower later. Problem I have is I get SO in my head about this all that I can’t even go for a consult. I’m not sure if I need more info or less. I’m mostly afraid of the initial extractions. Anything you can say to alleviate my fear would help! If you know of any dentists in my area ( Northern Illinois) that might also be a help.
Take it one step at a time. Make some consultation appointments and find a dentist you feel comfortable with. It might take a few tries to find the right dentist for you. I don't know anyone personally, but I have heard that there are a lot of dentists in Illinois.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental question. I had one wisdom tooth. It was partially our.. I had it pulled. I was AMAZED ( and LOVED my dentist back then) that after the shots to numb he came in and pulled it out so quickly that when he said I was done I couldn’t believe it. I realize this is l more complicated but in general , am I making a bigger monster of this than I need to?
I have a full set of dentures that are 30+ years old and haven't fit well in a long time. I'm thinking I really should get new and for the first time I have dental insurance. It will cover 50% up to $2,500. I won't be able to come up with 2,500, maybe 1 k, I hope that will be enough. I would like to know if I should see a general dentist or a prosthodontist? Specialists usually cost much much more. I think a doctor that specializes in something should be able to do "the job" much more easily, quickly and efficiently, practice makes perfect, yes? Most specialists charge much much more because they're so "special" 😉😁 I don't have a dentist because I've had these dentures for decades, literally. So, would you be more inclined to recommend a general dentist or a prosthodontist? Thank you for being genuinely caring to those of us that would love to be a patient of your's.
Hi, I would recommend you see a few dentists and prosthodontists for consults before you pick one to make your dentures. Try to find someone who will work with you through the process. Where do you live?
Thanks for the info Doc, I have Hyperdontia where my third set of teeth basically destroyed my second set and themselves and I am looking into getting them replaced with dentures, My dentist also advised me that it would be wise to run around without teeth for a week or two depending on how my jaw heals and the sockets close so that my Dentures would fit nicely and not fall out. I would like to see a follow up video on permanent dentures that get bolted in, I would like to have that as the end goal but would want to know the pros and cons about having teeth put into your head with a torque wrench. :)
Immediate dentures are a solution when you don't wanna go without teeth while healing before getting a permanent set. Dentists may have plans that will include both including adjustments and relines.
I had immediate put straight in top and bottoms . Top was done a year ago and they are awesome but these bottom ones are fresh as just had all bottom teeth done in June 2023 but soft line of them made them worse . So I am not wearing them I can’t cause I developed blisters plus can eat with bottoms in as I bite my jaw . So come July 31 st hopefully we get this lined out . I am lucky my insurance covers all . But I will pay out of pocket to get a bottom set that will fit if needed .
Great information and advice! I wish I saw this before I got them. I totally didn't know what to expect. First time I heard what I had was a "temporary" denture was upon my 2nd lining. A question please doc... I am homebound, but handy. I cannot get to a dentist. My dentures are holding up well enough but they are a bit stained I think. How can I brighten them up myself at home? How is it done by a dentist? As I said I am very handy! I was a cosmetologist for 37 years and can work well with tools, including tools for acrylic nails - which look VERY similar to many denture tools. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated as I want to start making great youtube videos, as you do! But about makeup, hair, crochet etc. Thank you in advance!!
Hi, to clean your denture at home I usually recommend to first brush them with dish soap and a denture brush or a soft toothbrush. Then soak them in denture cleaner. A couple of good denture cleaners are Kleenite and ValClean. You can order both on Amazon I think. If you don't want to use commercially made denture cleaners, you can soak the denture in a mix of half vinegar/half water for 15 minutes, or dilute 1 teaspoon of bleach in a glass of water and soak the denture for 5 minutes, then rinse it off. Thank you very much for watching and good luck with your UA-cam channel !
I got in that mess he told me it would cover everything, ended up I had to pay for pulling, pay forrelineing, ended up paying over 2000.00 for one set with pulling.
The surprise of having to pay an extra $2000. is not a fun surprise. Part of the reason I made this video was because a lot of viewers told me the same thing happened to them. Thank you very much for watching!
Had my dentures made, had my second adjustment today. My third adjustment is next Tuesday. Then I will be done. My mouth is so sore, I just have to push through the pain.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I am having all my teeth removed some are healthy but my teeth are very sensitive and stained. I haven't had a decent smile in years. I decided on snap in's, so here is the plan so far. I was quoted $26,000 for the process start to finish. They failed to include the fee for the 3D scan which was due at my 2nd appt. and $3,200 😖 wondering what other hidden costs they'll hit me with. Next are the extractions with one bone graph then temporary dentures. After the gums heal then implants, 4 on top and 3 on the bottom. Once those heal the snap ins go on. I AM THINKING ABOUT REGULAR DENTURES AFTER READING PROTHODONTIS'S AND A MAJOR NETWORK REPORT ON THE NATIONWIDE PROBLEM OF UNTRAINED DENTISTS PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE WITH REALLY BAD OUTCOMES. I AM SO CONFUSED!!!! I can't afford anything more other than the original price $26,000 quoted. The $3,200, that hurt!!!! What would you suggest I do????
@@GoFarFarAway. Hi Diane, sorry to hear about your situation. An extra $3200. in cost is not a little thing. Get a firm price quote before you continue. I have had cases in which I underestimated what needed to be done, but that's on me, not on the patient. As to your questions about dentists training, general dentists are trained to make full dentures (at least they were 25 years ago when I graduated). Implant placement training is common nowadays too.
I had top dentures until they took the last of the bottom teeth out and when they did that I was no longer able to wear the top because it was hurting my gums so it's been seven or eight years since I've had teeth and I've been wanting to get a pair of dentures but I wasn't sure what kind I should ask to get
Hi, if you are missing all of your teeth your options are, 1. regular dentures 2. snap in dentures on dental implants (a lot of times people will get a regular upper denture, then 2 implants on the lower jaw and a snap in denture for the lower) 3. permanent implant teeth(commonly called "All-on -4" ) usually 4 or more implants per jaw with a bridge attached to the implants. You can't remove the bridge at home.
Thank you very much for the kind words. Sorry to hear about your husbands situation. When my father in law went through chemo, he complained of mouth sores constantly. He also mentioned the chemo altered his sense of taste.
Thanks for your videos. We need more honest dentist in US, not a money chasers. What is your opinion on bio dentist and what do you think about toxicity of root canals? Thanks!!!
Another question is whether the final denture will be metal-free or not. I would not accept any metallic component. Modern synthetic materials are extremely durable.
Full dentures are usually made out of acrylic. I will occasionally use a metal framework if I'm worried the patient will break the denture. Here's a close up of one that I made for a patient: ua-cam.com/users/shortsR7SMKmXzJ7I?feature=share
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Why don't you use Carbon fiber instead? My dentist created a molar dental bridge of 4 teeth (the 2 middle teeth are missing) and he reinforced it with thin carbonfiber band 15 years ago and it's still in tact. I am sure you could use also something thicker than this band.
With the cost of dental what it is and the difficulty finding a dentist appointed care I wish I had my teeth out years before I did, dentures since I was 40, now 70, with a nice smile, unlike the toothed people my age who's teeth inevitably show their age.
I got dentures, and the molars are tiny. I've been able to compare them to 4 other sets and the molars are 1/3 the size of all the other ones. it's like eating with scissors I've cut my cheeks 4 times requiring stitches. Idk what to do, they look great/natural, and I've hand no pain in wearing them. I don't have another 5k plus for another set.
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Cheek biting can usually be corrected with a bite adjustment. How do the front teeth look? Usually the front and back teeth are a matched set. Were they a set of immediate dentures?
Thank you so much for this video.. very important questions to ask. I’m going to start the process of getting fitted for immediate dentures in a week and right after the dental office receives them I’m getting 16 teeth pulled 😰. I’m so scared bcz I’m not getting Iv sedation. They don’t have this in the dental office just ‘laughing gas’, which i told them i want. I suffer from bad anxiety so this has me very nervous. I take blood thinners and my cardiologist told me to stop taking them 5 days before extractions. I just don’t want to feel pain 🥺. Will I still have pain with this laughing gas??
My bottom dentures don’t fit I just had dental surgery back in June 6 2023 had tops done august 1 2022 no issues with those I now have permanent on top but these bottom are awful . They hurt my gums and I have had a soft line done and made them worse . They are immediate ones . So I go back July 31 st 2023 and I am requesting new bottom to be made . I know they are immediate ones but if I can’t wear them so I feel they were just not made right . My insurance covers very well and new bottoms will be covered but I am to point I will pay out of pocket .
Dentures vs implants if I am under 60 yrs old? I need ur opinion it will be thru the VA not sure what the requirements for implants vs dentures? Any suggestions? Thanks
@@VeryNiceSmileDental It will be dentures with the bottom one anchored with 2 prongs, magnetic? Can u elaborate on what it's called? Snap in overdentures?
Pandemic destroyed my mouth as I was dealing w/a very sick parent & not taking risks. My mouth, both top and bottom, has many Tori. I cannot imagine dealing with a saw but understand laser is now available. Is it common? More expensive? Also, do you have an opinion on horse shoe dentures? I'm still young(ish), haven't married yet, so must 1) look good 2) be able to kiss.
Hi, tori are usually only an issue if you need full dentures. They can be removed with a surgical dental drill, a laser, or a piezotome. The surgical dental drill is usually the quickest and most common method. By horseshoe dentures, do you mean snap-in dentures?
I cant find a dentist who wont let me heal without a immed. I dont have transportation not the inclination to keep getting them soft realigned. Do i just let them make them and not use them so annoyyed. Im older retired and pretty much house bound dont want immed that hidtory says dont fit and only get worse
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. You should be able to have a say over your treatment. Are you paying cash or using dental insurance? Unfortunately nowadays, insurance tends to dictate what some dentists will do.
I’m Going to attempt to wear my temps for a full year before my perms. Mainly because my insurance won’t cover until a year and also I will be fully healed
Hi, I use the flexible material usually for small 1 to 2 tooth flippers. I have made a couple of larger partials with it at the request of a patient (here's a video of one, ua-cam.com/users/shortsoifh3oh7hAg?feature=share) but I have never used the material for a full denture.
Thank you for your information it's very helpful 😊, only I wish I had watched it before I had my teeth done. 😬 I've had a rough time, I'm still having a rough time. But it's only been 2 months and I had a plate popped straight in. My dentist never informed me, how I would be affected. Taste is a big one. Kissing my loved one. And so much more, I'm just hoping it improves, Mine feel that bad I don't know if I can wait for 6 months for a reline. I don't want to deter anyone from getting this done. But please look into your options. Hopefully one day in Australia they will improve the prices of dental care. I will be saving hard and will try to get permanent dentures asap. 30.000 might cover the bottom ones 🤔? Kids Extra extra care for that gold in your mouth.
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Talk to your dentist, a soft reline might be helpful for you during the healing process. I don't the cost of permanent teeth on dental implants in Australia, but here in the NY metro area it's around $25k to $35k US per arch. Snap-in dentures are usually about half that cost. Thank you very much for watching!
Hi, bridges are man made replacement teeth. They can either be "fixed" meaning they don't come out or "removable" meaning they need to taken out of your mouth every night.
My dentist wants me to get braces because of my overcrowded upper arch but I rather just live the pain-free life. My heart is set on dentures upper arch and bottom arch which I am happy with. Shouldn’t my dentist take notes what I want instead of what they want? Since I will be living with it without insurance.
Hi, besides semantics, sometimes the healing denture isn't made as well since it is going to be replaced in 6 months. By not made as well I mean that the fit and looks of the denture may not be good.
A dentist I went to who seems to be state of the art plans to make immediate dentures that I not take out at all the first 24 hours (to help stop the bleeding?) and then they are to be relined a few months later. That is included in cost. They have an in house lab and a gal that supposedly is really good at customizing to begin with. Depending on how much the bone shrinks, can they reline sufficiently to make sure the immediately dentures fit comfortably later on? Also I am concerned about having the entire roof of my mouth covered (and the gag reflex). I didn't realize there are taste buds there. I'm told dentures reduce your ability to taste and that can turn off the brain to think you're not hungry. I'm told I have a "deep bite" where the top teeth come down almost to the bottom of my bottom teeth and they will correct that with dentures. But wouldn't that cause a TMJ problem in realigning my jaw? Dentist uses conscious sedation and says entire procedure will take at least 2 hrs. Both my MD and cardiologist think that's too long to be under sedation. Not sure what to do!
Hi. I usually tell people to leave the immediate denture in for the first 24 hours too. It works like a bandage to help with the bleeding, but also if you remove it too soon, the gums will swell up and you will need to leave it out for a few days for the swelling to go down. Whether or not the reline will be successful will depend on the shape of your jawbone afterwards. I tend not to do much alveoloplasty (trimming down the jawbone) after the extractions. The denture can usually be adjusted to not trigger your gag reflex. It will affect your sense of taste to an extent. To avoid covering the roof of your mouth you would need either snap in overdentures with implants or an "all on 4" type of fixed prosthesis. They will probably be able to correct the deep bite without affecting your TMJ. Definitely have your dentist consult with your MD and your cardiologist to determine the best course of treatment for your situation. I hope I answered your questions. Let me know.
An upper snap on denture is usually smaller than a regular denture. Here is a UA-cam short I made comparing a set of immediate dentures that I added snaps to and the set of final snap on dentures. ua-cam.com/users/shortsV0fhvuog1A0?feature=share
hi,i have 4 upper teeth that are shaking and potruding outside'should i have bracelet of get them removed and replaced with dentures, and gum is residing
My dentist says that he can't save the one upper or lower front 5 that I have left. He said that because I have an under-bite that it will be even harder for me to get a good fit at the bottom. Can you still get implants years down the line, I mean will the bone have disappeared? 🤔
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Once you have the teeth removed, the bone will shrink over time. More so initially, then the rate of shrinkage will decrease. I talk about this in more depth in this video, ua-cam.com/video/UuozZ_B6vuA/v-deo.html It may still be possible to have implants placed in the future. I have a patient who wore a full upper denture and a lower partial denture (replacing her back teeth) for 40 years before she decided to get implants. The surgeon needed to perform some bone grafting before placing the implants, but they were successful. The patient ended up with 7 implants on top and 5 implants on the bottom. She still has her lower front 6 teeth (canine to canine). When you do have your teeth removed, try to avoid having alveoloplasty (jawbone removal). Some dentists remove more bone than is necessary.
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by "bone alignment". When you have teeth removed before getting dentures some dentists will do an "alveoloplasty" which means they will trim down the jawbone after the teeth are removed (it's done at the same time the teeth are removed).
Hi Doctor, as a patient I can’t find any information regarding the backflaw prevention requirements for saliva ejectors, is it required in USA? In Louisiana in particular? How do I see if my doctor has it? Of course I can ask directly, just not sure if the hygienist would say the truth, does a doctor usually know such things or only a hygienist? Thank you!
Hi, I don't know the laws in Louisiana but generally dental offices in USA have to follow the CDC guidelines for infection control. Here is what they say about backflow prevention for saliva ejectors, www.cdc.gov/oralhealth/infectioncontrol/faqs/saliva.html How does backflow occur when using a saliva ejector? Backflow occurs when previously suctioned fluids present in the suction tubing flow back into the patient’s mouth. Backflow can occur when: There is pressure in a patient’s mouth (a result of closing their lips and forming a seal around the tip of the ejector) that is less than in the saliva ejector (similar to how liquid flows back into a cup after drinking through a straw). The suction tubing attached to the ejector is positioned above the patient’s mouth. A saliva ejector is used at the same time as other evacuation (high-volume) equipment. Although no adverse health effects associated with the saliva ejector have been reported, dental health care personnel (DHCP) should be aware that backflow could occur when they use a saliva ejector. DHCP should not advise patients to close their lips tightly around the tip of the saliva ejector to evacuate oral fluids. DHCP should contact the manufacturer of the dental unit to review proper use and maintenance procedures, including appropriate cleaning and disinfection methods.
I'm curious, as I have a wax fitting scheduled on Tuesday for my upper denture and lower partial. Would this be the time and for me to select the ideal color and type of teeth? Perhaps porcelain or acrylic teeth? Your expert suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I usually go over color and tooth shape choices at the bite registration visit. I usually recommend acrylic teeth because they stay attached to the denture base better than porcelain teeth. At the wax try in visit, I have the patient take a look to see if they like the color and shape of the teeth, and I check to make sure they are in the correct position. Sometimes the bite can be off and it's easy to correct it at the wax try in stage.
Thanks for the helpful video! I had upper teeth removed following severe periodontal and provided an immediate denture same day of extraction in 2016 for son’s wedding. I have had the temporary denture 7 years and never relined and able to eat everything including almonds, use much denture adhesive and need a permanent denture at this time. I have only a handful of solid standing teeth remaining in bottom front and have been to several dentists - spent much money consults Ct scans and last one said not eligible for implants as hip bone is needed for grafting and I will never do that at 64 years old with osteoporosis. Daughter getting married in four months and need help asap. When I talk, people can see broken off teeth front bottom side and I’m fearful to remove the remains (lost during two years of Covid) without having replacement. Latest was told no implant eligibility so what should I do ? I’m fearful to remove remaining five strong bottom teeth - should I get a temporary partial ? This is urgent. I’m also seeing yet another dentist for opinion next month. My entire bottom face is droopy wrinkly sagging from jaw bone loss both sides it’s horrible and will dentures on bottom help this problem? Also no relationship in many years as I don’t want a guy to know I have dentures it’s messed up !! If you would provide any advice, I would greatly appreciate !! Thank you! Also on relining, my teeth would need to be sent out to their lab and it takes 3 days so 3 days without any upper teeth would never happen so good idea to ask on labs if relining is needed how long without any teeth ?
You're welcome! Sorry to hear about your situation. I'm going to address your questions as separate replies to your comment, just to make it easier for me to keep track of every thing. Let me know if I miss anything.
If your lower teeth are failing, you have some options that don't involve dental implants. Do you have any type of lower partial denture currently? If so, sometimes missing teeth can be added to the partial. It may not stay in well, but it would be a quick fix, usually a day or two at the lab. Other options would be a lower immediate denture, downside is that a lower denture doesn't stay in place as well as an upper full denture. Another option is a type of partial denture called a Cu-sil partial denture (also known as a Virginia partial denture). It looks like a lower full denture, but it has holes in it through which teeth can fit through. If you have one strong tooth on both sides of your lower jaw (ideal is having both lower canines) a cu-sil partial can be made and the canines will hold it in place. If in the future you lose one or all of the remaining teeth, the partial can be easily converted into a full denture. Here are three videos I made that give more detail, ua-cam.com/video/WXm4r8c66As/v-deo.html, ua-cam.com/video/t9nXlTqfQtQ/v-deo.html, ua-cam.com/video/y4fJ-mP-0J0/v-deo.html. Last option would be an all acrylic temporary partial replacing the missing teeth. It would be mostly for looks, people usually can't eat well with it.
Dentures and partial dentures can help with giving more support to your cheeks and lips. It's a combination of having the teeth the correct length, and enough pink plastic gum to fill out your face to the proper contour.
There are two types of relines, chairside and lab relines. A chairside reline can be down while you wait in the dental office. A lab reline needs to be sent out to the lab. My lab can usually do it overnight if I give them a heads up ahead of time. Lab relines have a better finish and they hold up longer than chairside relines (the material used is different). If your immediate denture is 7 years old, I would probably recommend a chairside reline or your existing denture, and a new upper denture.
Are you in Dutchess County, NY? My office is just outside of White Plains in Westchester County. You are welcome to come in for a free consultation and I can talk to you about your options.
I had 9 teeth pulled along time ago could that cause problems never was offered a partsheal just wondering if that could make my bottom plate not work so well thank you and please
Hello No one in 2 different dentists told about implant. I had all top teeth pulled out the bottom teeth pulled partial after that immediate new top and partial denture right after. I didn’t feel not comfortable. Sometimes went back to fix because of so sore. At 2011 I went different dentist to pull all the partial teeth out. Put new both dentures and still not comfortable and visited them many times till I was okay with this. I am deaf. Right now my bottom is hurt and move a lot to make me feel little bite inside myself. I wonder if my both dentures need replacement? Please let me know. Thank you
A new set (top and bottom) of dentures is probably a good idea. After teeth are extracted, your jawbone will continue to shrink and your dentures get looser. Plus the teeth will wear down too. I talk about why dentures get loose in this video, ua-cam.com/video/UuozZ_B6vuA/v-deo.html
Doc. I have a problem iam wearing denture from front teeth but recently i notice my gum was swelling for almost one month i went to dentist gor check but didnt do anything for me doc. Only clean my teeth but didnt tell me what happened to my gum why swolen?
My friends dentist didn't give him the option to pick the shape of his immediate denture teeth. They asked him to bring in a pic of his original teeth .Is that normal
Hi, yes it's normal. I like seeing an old photo of the persons teeth. Otherwise I have my lab pick a shape based on the persons age, sex, and size of their mouth. Most people are happy with how they look. A couple of times we had to change them.
I have a question, I just went for fitting today for my bottom snap on denture, i tried it on and the teeth seems so small and my face sank in, when I asked why is it my face sank in, he said the technician do what is best!! I am not sure how to say and explain what to do in my denture not to look like i dont have a teeth even i have the denture on. Please help, i will go for another trial before my permanent gets done!! I just want to know what to say to them!! What needs to be done on my denture for my face not to sink in!! Thank you so much in advance..
Hi Bechay, from what you mentioned, it sounds like the teeth may be too small, a larger size teeth will help. As to your face being sunk in, the two things I would check is 1. making sure that your mouth is not over closed when you bite down with the new denture. Dentists call that the VDO (vertical dimension of occlusion) I have a video that talks about it a little bit, ua-cam.com/video/KBE-tflxVNk/v-deo.html If your VDO is ok, the next thing I would do would be to add wax to areas of the denture to fill your face in. Some times the cheek side of the denture needs to be thicker to help support your facial muscles properly. Does that make sense? Let me know. Don't sign off on the denture until you are happy with how it looks at the wax try in stage. It's easy to change it now, once it's processed (made into hard acrylic) not so much.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental First of all THANK YOU very much for your quick reply and advise. I will definitely ask and took notes of all you said. Sitting on the dentist chair I felt pressure to just agree and go ahead, But 12 thousand dollars is a lot of money to just settle for what I am not happy!! Thanks for making me feel confident as what to say to them next week. I waited one year for this moment and I am so disappointed on how my face looks like with my new denture. Thank you once again and More Power to your channel.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental just an update, , i went to my dentist this week and start talking confidently about VDO and teeth length and additional wax and so on. The things that you advised me to tell him. He was like for sure we will try that and we will not make it final until you like how it feels and looks on you. I made sure on my last visit that they know that I will not settle for the result that I am not happy as I paid more than 10k to get my smile back. I can’t take you enough for the help and knowledge that you give me. I will continue watching your videos, as I learn so much from it. Continue to make more videos, i know that you help so many viewers, I for one of those viewers that benefited a lot from your videos!! Thanks a lot again
@@VeryNiceSmileDental i had my try in again this week and it looks a lot better than last week!! Guess what Dr Rich additional wax and showing longer teeth makes a lot of difference. I was named DIFFICULT but I dont care this time!! I ask them to one more try on next week before making it final. I still feel that it can lift my lower jaw a bit more but i dont want to make it look bulky too much. So if everything I saw yesterday will feel great and good inside my mouth, then it’s going for final. Thank you Dr Rich for sharing your knowledge. I will keep you updated!! Thanks a lot.
Hi, I usually recommend that people wait to get bridges or implants until they are finished growing. Talk to your dentist about your specific situation.
They did that to me after I got my d entures, it was about 4 months later, and they charged me $700. I thought it was included in the price and I went to pick
@@joemartinez6182 Sometimes adjusting the shape of the roof of the mouth part of the denture behind the upper front teeth can help with that issue. Have your dentist take a look at it, they should be able to figure out what is causing it.

I am still having problems 14 months letter. My Dentist didn't explain anything. I had no clue. She gave me 2 options. I thought I was getting healing immediate dentures. It was and still is a nightmare.
My cost was $14,000 or option 2 was $11,000.
I would fill this page with all that happened.
@Jillb1950 wow, for that price u prob could have gotten implants
?
I had to have 13 extractions. Most of them were teeth that were broken of at the gum. 5 of them were the top front teeth that were jagged. My dentist was very up front with me and made sure that I knew the pros and cons to immediate dentures and permanent dentures. I have chosen to heal completely before getting my permanent dentures. I am getting the top denture and a partial for my bottom. It's hard to have the patience but it is the best choice.
How have things been thus far? I hope your doing well :)
That what I'm doing my dentist told me my options Frist
I went the other day and he said you can either have partials all in the back or we can take all out and I have cavities in every tooth so I chose to get them all pulled but not at once he’s puking the backs and then my front tops and bottoms. I think this is the best thing for me what do you think?
Immediate dentures are better.. and make sure you get a new set so I basically opted for both
I'm getting my immediate dentures next week.
Thanks.
Thank you very much for the kind words. I hope everything goes well with your treatment. Thank you very much for watching!
@jewelssylva3738 hello I'm going in 2weeks for dentures. How are your teeth now since your last comments 10months ago?😢
I had this done in aprii
thank you very much for explaining the process here.
You're welcome! It sounds like you are in good hands. Thank you very much for watching.
Who did you go to to have yours if I get my tooth pulled instead of a root canal and bridge I’ll need a 3 unit near tooth # 15
If I get tooth extracted rather than a root canal and 3 unit bridge, tooth #15 will the denture feel comfortable?
Great to hear!
In my treatment plan and explanation my dentist made it clear that there were the immediate dentures and then the 2nd set. He included both with costs in plan and went over it with me. I would hope every dentist did that but apparently they don't.
That's great to hear! I wish more dentists did that.
I prefer to let the gums heal when I have mine pulled, but sadly it won't be an option and I will have to have immediates in place ... can't work in a face to face environment without teeth
I hope all goes well.
A few years ago when everyone was wearing masks was the best time to have teeth removed or to get braces.
Haven't started the process or the decision yet so, I really appreciate this information today and you explained it well . Now to find a Dentist I can trust !
I've never found one at 63 years of age......
What a total let- down.....I hope there's a solution sooner than later for you
Oh honey I am so sorry.

I'm having a hard time deciding on dentures or snap in although I'd rather get snap in dentures. Especially I heard the bottom dentures can move around more unlike snap in.
Snap in dentures will stay in better and can be made smaller especially for the top. Upper snap ins usually don't cover the roof of your mouth.
The dentist should tell the patient what the charges are going to be. The dentist I went to charged over $7000 to extract 3 teeth. Never told me there are immediate dentures vs regular dentures. I have a full set of dentures that are 30+ years old and haven't fit well in a long time. I'm thinking I really should get new and for the first time I have dental insurance.
Yes. The point is to discuss it with the dentist before you start. Many people don't what treatment they are getting or what's included in the cost.

Hi, if you are missing all of your teeth your options are,
1. regular dentures
2. snap in dentures on dental implants (a lot of times people will get a regular upper denture, then 2 implants on the lower jaw and a snap in denture for the lower)
3. permanent implant teeth(commonly called "All-on -4" ) usually 4 or more implants per jaw with a bridge attached to the implants. You can't remove the bridge at home.

I've used fiber reinforcement in certain situations but for full dentures or overdentures I prefer metal.

With the cost of dental what it is and the difficulty finding a dentist appointed care I wish I had my teeth out years before I did, dentures since I was 40, now 70, with a nice smile, unlike the toothed people my age who's teeth inevitably show their age.
Glad to hear your dentures are working well for you. I've had many patients over the years who were relieved to finally get dentures.
very informative thanks

Hi, laughing gas will just take the edge off, you still need local anesthetic for the pain. If you are extremely nervous, maybe consider sedation.
Good luck with your lowers. Lower dentures can be difficult.
Thank you doc 😊

Dentures vs implants if I am under 60 yrs old? I need ur opinion it will be thru the VA not sure what the requirements for implants vs dentures? Any suggestions? Thanks
Hi, are you considering permanent teeth on implants (like an "all on four") or snap in overdentures or regular dentures?
No sure the VA will probably want to save $$$$ & make me go with dentures, 5 of my teeth are decayed & chipped
Permanent of course I am 52 yrs old@@VeryNiceSmileDental

I cannot imagine dealing with a saw but understand laser is now available. Is it common? More expensive? Also, do you have an opinion on horse shoe dentures? I'm still young(ish), haven't married yet, so must 1) look good 2) be able to kiss.
Hi, tori are usually only an issue if you need full dentures. They can be removed with a surgical dental drill, a laser, or a piezotome. The surgical dental drill is usually the quickest and most common method. By horseshoe dentures, do you mean snap-in dentures?

Thank you for your video. I got a question about flexible denture and permanent denture, is it the same? And difference? Thank you
Hi, I use the flexible material usually for small 1 to 2 tooth flippers. I have made a couple of larger partials with it at the request of a patient (here's a video of one, ua-cam.com/users/shortsoifh3oh7hAg?feature=share) but I have never used the material for a full denture.
What do you do if you need them all pulled and to heal just have no teeth ?
Hi, yes. People just eat soft foods till they get their dentures.
Great video. Wish you were my dentist.

Thank you for your information it's very helpful 😊, only I wish I had watched it before I had my teeth done. 😬
I've had a rough time, I'm still having a rough time. But it's only been 2 months and I had a plate popped straight in.
My dentist never informed me, how I would be affected.
Taste is a big one. Kissing my loved one. And so much more, I'm just hoping it improves,
Mine feel that bad I don't know if I can wait for 6 months for a reline. I don't want to deter anyone from getting this done. But please look into your options. Hopefully one day in Australia they will improve the prices of dental care. I will be saving hard and will try to get permanent dentures asap.

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Talk to your dentist, a soft reline might be helpful for you during the healing process. Thank you very much for watching!

What are bridges
Hi, bridges are man made replacement teeth. They can either be "fixed" meaning they don't come out or "removable" meaning they need to taken out of your mouth every night.
My dentist wants me to get braces because of my overcrowded upper arch but I rather just live the pain-free life. My heart is set on dentures upper arch and bottom arch which I am happy with. Shouldn’t my dentist take notes what I want instead of what they want? Since I will be living with it without insurance.

What's the difference between healing dentures and immediate dentures
Hi, besides semantics, sometimes the healing denture isn't made as well since it is going to be replaced in 6 months. By not made as well I mean that the fit and looks of the denture may not be good.
Thanks for the video. Do I apply to recently brushed teeth??
Hi, apply what?
Thanks for this explanation. Very informative and helpful when considering dentures. Appreciate the candor.

What’s the difference of the thickness of a denture versus a snap on and they’re both big pieces of plastic no?
An upper snap on denture is usually smaller than a regular denture. Here is a UA-cam short I made comparing a set of immediate dentures that I added snaps to and the set of final snap on dentures. ua-cam.com/users/shortsV0fhvuog1A0?feature=share
hi,i have 4 upper teeth that are shaking and potruding outside'should i have bracelet of get them removed and replaced with dentures, and gum is residing
Hi, if the teeth move around a lot, they will most likely need to be removed.
I'm in Australia and All-on-4 are incredibly expensive from $17,000 even up to 50,000....who has that kind of money, its crazy expensive :(
It's expensive here in the USA too. I've had patients come see me after getting $90k estimates. Do they offer financing in Australia?
My dentist says that he can't save the one upper or lower front 5 that I have left. He said that because I have an under-bite that it will be even harder for me to get a good fit at the bottom. Can you still get implants years down the line, I mean will the bone have disappeared? 🤔
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Once you have the teeth removed, the bone will shrink over time. More so initially, then the rate of shrinkage will decrease. I talk about this in more depth in this video, ua-cam.com/video/UuozZ_B6vuA/v-deo.html
It may still be possible to have implants placed in the future.
Can you get some bone alignment to make the denture fit?
Here is what they say about backflow prevention for saliva ejectors, www.cdc.gov/oralhealth/infectioncontrol/faqs/saliva.html
How does backflow occur when using a saliva ejector?
Backflow occurs when previously suctioned fluids present in the suction tubing flow back into the patient’s mouth. Backflow can occur when:
There is pressure in a patient’s mouth (a result of closing their lips and forming a seal around the tip of the ejector) that is less than in the saliva ejector (similar to how liquid flows back into a cup after drinking through a straw).

Hi, were both of your dentures made in 2011?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental 1 from 2000, and renew replacement since 2011
A new set (top and bottom) of dentures is probably a good idea. After teeth are extracted, your jawbone will continue to shrink and your dentures get looser. Plus the teeth will wear down too. I talk about why dentures get loose in this video, ua-cam.com/video/UuozZ_B6vuA/v-deo.html

Dentists call that the VDO (vertical dimension of occlusion) I have a video that talks about it a little bit, ua-cam.com/video/KBE-tflxVNk/v-deo.html
If your VDO is ok, the next thing I would do would be to add wax to areas of the denture to fill your face in.
