Use to hate Tenkaichi 1 with a passion when it first dropped. There was so much hype built around it. I remember staring at the 3D models in magazines and being pumped. Only to get a game that I felt like was a drop in quality compared to Budokai 3. No in-game transformations, no sway dodge, no destinctive differences between the Kamehameha wave user's animation, color, or sound. Just higher damages. Thankfully these issues were rectified in the sequels which helped me appreciate the foundation Tenkaichi 1 layed out.
I actually loved the budokai tenkaichi opened. The plasticky textures gave it a straight out the toy box feel. I wish they did another opening like this
The comedic timing and editing make this so enjoyable to watch, amazing job! You earned a sub, bt3 was my childhood and seeing it get the love it deserves makes me happy, please keep making such amazing retrospectives!
I've never played this because I had Budokai. Specially Budokai 3. That is still one of my fav DBZ game. I love how you put in DBZA clips into this. Lmao
I remember as a kid I never had problems with the controls and camera angles. Even xenoverse 2 still has camera angle issues so why would I bother back then when it came out? It makes no sense. I was a beast at this game so I can confirm it has pretty nice combos and animations for the time it came out. The second game sacrifice graphics, but not everything is up to graphics. The amount of characters that was in it, having their special attacks and combos from the show is a big improvement. And also I'm being objective. That's how you analywa game and not basing it on the things you liked
One of my older cousins while I was a kid is honestly the reason I was exposed to so much many games/anime like DBZ. I personally loved BT1-3. Few months later I’ll never forget the day I had finished a semester in 3rd grade and my mom bought me the DBZ Trilogy with Super DBZ, BT2 & BT3. Memories 🐉

I painstakingly used potaras to balance the entire roster so that every character had roughly the same win ratio. Then I sat around for like 100+ hours watching CPU vs CPU battles lol. I've been playing since release and unless BT4 is somehow better, I'll be playing for a few more decades
I had to come here after seeing the Budokai Trilogy. I really wish they just continued with the budokai series rather than jumping into the Tenkaichi series since building ontop of budokai 3 would've been so great. I feel as though that Infinite was really bad since it removed some nice key concepts of budokai 3 such as the beam struggles and added really bad mini-games that were unnecessary and forced.

BT 2 and 3 were great because they moved away from literally everyone having High Power Rush, High Speed Rush or High Speed Volley as special moves. That's the worst part for me of BT1- the lack of care in the specials.
@@RandomBlackGamer That's one thing I gotta give Ultimate Tenkaichi credit for, every single version of Kamehameha, Galick Gun etc, there is a unique visual. I'm honestly surprised, that since Dragon Ball Super's Been out, and, if memory serves, Tenkaichi 3 sold pretty good didn't it? While I am aware of the Xenoverse series as well as FighterZ being the more prevalent titles nowadays, I am slightly dumbfounded that they haven't made a Tenkaichi 4 yet. It could include the Sagas present in 3, as well as; Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, Goku Black, Universe 6, and as well as the Universe Survival Saga and the Super Broly Movie. Just imagine the Character Rosters! Obviously, they would have new iterations of Goku and Vegeta for Super, detailing all their canon transformations from Base Form to Ultra Ego/Instinct, as well as either a new Costume for past characters present in Super (For Example, 17 and 18) or a different moveset for the Super Iterations. As well as the following characters from each saga; (Transformations included) Battle of Gods: Beerus and Whis Resurrection F: Golden Frieza, Tagoma, more Alternate Costumes for the Frieza Soldier character. Universe Survival Saga: Basil, Lavender, Bergamo, Top, Jiren, Napapa, Kale, Caulifla, Kefla, Ribrianne, Obni, Dyspo, Caway, Ganos, Maji-Kayo, Borareta, Jimizu, Cocotte, Kettle, Kahseral, Saonel, and quite a few more possibilities I can't recall. Such as the Blue Haired Cat-Girl that #17 faced off against. Broly Movie: Broly, Cheelai, Paragus There's also a few characters from earlier Dragon Ball Series that they could bring in also, I, for one, would love to see Shugesh, Tora, and Borgos and see Team Bardock as a potential 5-man Team in Tenkaichi 4. As well as Adult Chi-Chi from the last few episodes of Dragon Ball. They could even play around a bit more with the What-if Sagas. For example, I would absolutely love to see Super Broly face off against his sadistic Z counterpart. Team Bardock facing off against the Ginyu Force, or even the Pride Troopers! Jiren vs. Z Broly, as well as Berserker Kale vs. Z Broly, the possiblities are endless. Especially if they decide to add some of the cast from Dragon Ball Heroes and all the other spinoffs, Cumber and Super Saiyan God Trunks to name a few. The possibilities are endless! But, on the flip side, the more characters there are, the more movesets they have to develop. So, it's likely wishful thinking, but, I would be MORE than happy if they made a Fourth Tenkaichi.
If you follow news and do a bit of background research there seems to be a variety of hints as to why that's the case, some of these are speculation but I think it's some combination of these factors that prevents Tenkaichi 4 from existing. 1) Raging Blast 1 & Raging Blast 2 did not sell nor review too well. While technically they weren't Budokai Tenkaichi and were very different, I can't image it bolstering confidence in the higher management at Bandai Namco for Tenkaichi or things that looked like Tenkaichi. The lukewarm reception to Ultimate Tenkaichi (it's not BT at all, I know) probably sealed the deal for the business suits. 2) Something seems to have happened to Spike Chunsoft's fighting game division. They've had semi-decent releases such as the Raging Blast series and OP Burning Blood... before plummeting into releases like One Punch Man : A Hero Nobody Knows and Jump Force. We can assume that the manpower/resources to make a Tenkaichi 4 might not be there anymore. 3) Bandai seems to be trying to branch out more with Dragon Ball game genres to see what reaches out ot more audiences. Part of Xenoverse and FighterZ's success comes from drawing in people who were disinterested in the previous games or not even big fans of the series in general. While Tenkaichi styled games could be considered safe bets, Xenoverse 1's success seems to be pushing them to try aiming at different demographics and engagement types. 4) It'd just kind of fight against Xenoverse series's current cliche as the "100+ character fighter" of the current era.
My only gripe with the third game, and I played only the 2nd and the 3rd - I missed out on the 1st - is that they removed the body damage on the characters..
I LOVED BT1. Even though the moves were a little repetitive, I didn't care. I disagree with your opinion of the opening though because I re-watch it once in a while. It also had the best music from the trilogy. One of my favorites was also the intro to the Z Battle Gate because it was special to me from some reason. Maybe it's because you could talk to mr. Popo, and he would always give you a farewell 😂. I'm pretty sure this doesn't only stick with me because I've seen a lot of people in the tenkaichi community that also liked it. I also think that the menu inside it is the best. Just choosing any level in that certain way and seeing the objective in that font. The only things that I hated was that you couldn't transform and the moveset.
BT 2 and 3 were my first games that I owned as I only played B3 on gamecube as my cousin had it. I’ll say about the AI for BT2 and 3 I DEFINITELY agree looking at you Kid Buu good grief that dude and his Mystico Ball Spam got on my nerves.
None of these games were hard to learn to play, especially tenkiachi 3. That was the easiest to pick up and play. You literally used the same buttons for everyones special moves lmfao
BT2 and BT3 exemplify what a DBZ game is supposed to be. For crying out loud look at the details of each fighters? If you look at their fighting styles they are made from scratch with moves with the anime. Every character fight differently ESPECIALLY when they transform. SSJ Teen Gohan fights much differently from SSJ2 Gohan. His moves are literally straight from the show.
They are missing out on so much money not releasing new ones for the new consoles or even just letting us download the ones already made for new consoles
I don't know if it's the case in the Wii version, but in the PS2 version of Tenkaichi 2, there was a glitch in the duel mode where you could choose two of the same characters in the tag team battle. I would always choose 2 SS2 Teen Gohans and it made my cousin mad
I can’t stand tenkaichi 3. My favorite part of budokai tenkaichi 1 and 2 was going through the huge story mode and unlocking all the characters. Tenkaichi 3 on the other hand has an incredibly lackluster and barebones story mode that doesn’t justify its existence because you barely unlock anything for completing it. Also nearly every single character is automatically unlocked at the start. And they took out unlocking characters with fusion items. It felt so cool using the knowledge of the series to intuit what item goes with what to unlock the character. But now it’s just all gone. And no one ever mentions this.
I really, REALLY disagree with your statement about the music in budokai tenkaichi 2, I think it has the best music out of any dragon ball game period. Great video tho!
All your criticism are on point but this video you made is in 2023 i bet Early 2000s during that time nobody bothered didn't even make excuse while losing to all these we just say i have to do better and be more powerful 🤣 Earlier days were simple we complain less than now.
@@HiddenChannel Yeah, most games were literally only a few fps. I went like 170-3 purely because kid buu could handle the lag better than most characters.
Great video, great commentary, and your experience with the franchise is exactly the same as my own. Budokai 3 is one of my favourite games and I couldn’t stand tenkaichi when it came out. Haven’t gone back to the series since but this makes me think I should. Great production from a small channel, wishing you luck and growth!
Thank you. If you're a fan of B3 story mode than you might want to try tenkaichi 2 over 3 because it has the best story mode. But if you just want a really fun dbz fighting experience defiantly go with tenkaichi 3.
I love the Tenkaichi series, I really hope that Tenkaichi is making a comeback someday in the future. Amazing video and channel, I‘m really happy that this video was in my recommendations 😄
Bandai need to stop supporting Xenoverse 2 and make BT4. There's a lot of festures that isn't in XV2 and others that are broken like the cpu can't transform
These were very in depth retrospectives. There was probably only one thing you didn’t talk about in depth and those were the blast stocks(the blue bars on your hud with the number). You mentioned that you need ki to transform in 2 & 3 when it’s actually the blast stocks. They’re also how you enter max power in each game. You need at least 1 to enter max power mode. In BT3 you can even skip transformations if you have enough blast stocks. For example with Goku End, you can go from base to SSJ2, SSJ to SSJ3, or even base to SSJ3. You can also use them to do some of the blast 1 and blast 2 abilities like Wild Sense, Explosive Wave, Goku Mid’s “I’m getting excited”, etc. Overall great video, I just feel you could’ve explain how the blast gauge works.
@@blackwarrior1897 Oh, ok. So BT2 introduced the mechanic to skip transformations, I assume it also has the mechanic of reverting back to base form. I didn’t know if it did since I never played BT2, I only got to watch my older brother play it back when it was new.
I am mostly a Budokai 3 guy but played TB 2 on the Wii. I sadly think the 80+ character makes it a little boring and as you mentioned the story mode is so stilted. I remember laughing so much when it played the Coolers revenge and tried to show the army of Coolers. It was like 5 of them XD I am not a fan of iconic attacks being shown in a cinematic attack where the only thing you really do is rush and get close to activate cut scene. Grabs are okay. But I prefer to do the attacks and avoid them in real time. I felt it pretty boring when basically all the characters had the same move set and even the special attacks did´t feel special. Big beam, small beam, barrage of beams. I think Spirit Bomb and Kamikaze attacks where one of the few uniqe attacks. Now I did have fun on the stages like moving about in the city or going under water. But the playstyle is not for me I prefer other types of fighting games.
Dragon ball z Budokai Tenkaichi, the very first one I have not played that in years. That 1 that have physics was so you have to pick the transformations forms Separate because transformations was not allowed. Thank goodness part 2 fix that. But point 3 was the best game played out of the entire series.

Broly Movie: Broly, Cheelai, Paragus
There's also a few characters from earlier Dragon Ball Series that they could bring in also, I, for one, would love to see Shugesh, Tora, and Borgos and see Team Bardock as a potential 5-man Team in Tenkaichi 4.
How you feel now?
My only gripe with the third game, and I played only the 2nd and the 3rd - I missed out on the 1st - is that they removed the body damage on the characters..
You gotta hit someone with an Ultimate to get them to damage their clothes in 3. In 1 and 2 it was just low health where you can see damaged clothes.
I wish I had friends who are really into these games. The friends I know only play shooting games or the Fortnite types
This was by far the most in-depth analysis of the Tenkaichi series that I've seen on UA-cam! 10/10.
Thanks :D
Ok but who’s ready for BT4??!!!
Love the TFS clips, clearly you are a person of culture
Press the button
Eat the food
Press the button
Pull the sword
Press the button
Do the push up
Life is now complete.
BUDOKAI TENKAICHI 4 ANNOUNCED LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
This was really in depth and good.👍
I also always wondered why goku’s gi was black in the menu screen 😅
Yeah, it's a really odd thing to mess up
To this day ill still play the hell out of Bt3. Played it so much it made my wii conk out😂 but Bt2 had superior music. Hell ill take either 2 or 3
BT 2 and 3 were my first games that I owned as I only played B3 on gamecube as my cousin had it.
Lol that’s special moves… BT3 has ALOT of hidden combos.
I'm guessing that by now, you've heard about the new one?
Bt1 was like beta bt2 the best b53 just had better combos and roster
I really enjoy this retrospective videos. Subbing at 4090. Ready to see when you hit 1M
All your criticism are on point but this video you made is in 2023 i bet Early 2000s during that time nobody bothered didn't even make excuse while losing to all these we just say i have to do better and be more powerful 🤣
Earlier days were simple we complain less than now.
Your video popped up on my recommended after I heard about the 4th game being announced 🤯
Ive never played any of these games but Ig Id better give them a shot!
I still play BT2, and have off and on since 2012. Am currently waiting on a second ps2 controller so i can teach my nephew.
Man, it's a shame BT3's online shut down. Those 2-3fps matches were intense. Lmao
Was it really that bad? I never got to see it in action
@@HiddenChannel Yeah, most games were literally only a few fps. I went like 170-3 purely because kid buu could handle the lag better than most characters.
Everyone talkin’ crap about BT1-3 until we get 4, I love budokai, but BT4 is boutta slap all of DB media
This is going to be an exciting ride!
That is a gratuitous amount of TeamFourStar quotes. Not that I'm complaining, lol
DragonBall Z budokai tenkaichi 4 is coming out check the trailer 😭
Yes my friend🎉 w for us
The motion controls in Tenkaichi 2 is the only thing I REALLY liked about any of these games.
Still the only DB fighting game that lets you fight as King Vegeta and even King Cold.
Probably will remain that way too.
I love the Tenkaichi series, I really hope that Tenkaichi is making a comeback someday in the future.
Amazing video and channel, I‘m really happy that this video was in my recommendations 😄
Thanks for taking the time to check it out 😁
BT2 had the best soundtrack of any DBZ game and I will die on that hill
I’m salty you didn’t bring up fasha and arale lol great reviews thoe
Always good hearing another Kiwi accent on UA-cam.
Some people probably can't understand me lol
Bandai need to stop supporting Xenoverse 2 and make BT4. There's a lot of festures that isn't in XV2 and others that are broken like the cpu can't transform
Love the Tenkaichi series. Great video 👍🏾 The content on this channel is good too. I gotta sub
Thank you :D
Yo this was AMAZING! Im glad to see people still talking about the tenkaichi series despite how old it is.
1:47 It's not black it's just a really dark shade of blue
To me Tenkaichi 2 and 3 are the best games ever. The raging blast games are better to me depending on how I feel that day but in the same league.
3:02 it’s good to see that goku is bilingual
You can skip transformations in BT2 too.
@@blackwarrior1897 Oh, ok. So BT2 introduced the mechanic to skip transformations, I assume it also has the mechanic of reverting back to base form. I didn’t know if it did since I never played
BT2, I only got to watch my older brother play it back when it was new.
BT3 cut too much scenes but they def had the best storyline
I am mostly a Budokai 3 guy but played TB 2 on the Wii. I sadly think the 80+ character makes it a little boring and as you mentioned the story mode is so stilted. I remember laughing so much when it played the Coolers revenge and tried to show the army of Coolers. It was like 5 of them XD
I am not a fan of iconic attacks being shown in a cinematic attack where the only thing you really do is rush and get close to activate cut scene.
6:03 oh yea down x
Exatly wat happens with that type of turtorial
Dragon ball z Budokai Tenkaichi, the very first one I have not played that in years. That 1 that have physics was so you have to pick the transformations forms Separate because transformations was not allowed. Thank goodness part 2 fix that.
But point 3 was the best game played out of the entire series.
Aye why’d that rock the dragon bit go so hard?! Especially when the guitar started wtf
Poor krillin
Well it's no longer a trilogy 😁
A bit heavy on the tfs references are we
Yes :D
