I really loved Budokai 2's board game story mode. I thought it was a unique way to tell the story and the fact that you could slightly change events based on who you chose to fight the enemy with gave the game some replay-ability, oh and lets not forget the fusions! The first time I saw Cell and Frieza fuse as a child I was terrified!
I'm a bit too young to remember Budokai 1 and 2, but Budokai 3 still ranks along with Tenkaichi 2 as one of my favourite Dragon Ball games. It's also pretty cool to see these types of reviews from a woman. Looking forward to seeing more!
Even after all these years Budokai 3 is still my favourite dbz game. Tenkaichi 2 is also a great game in it's own right, I just don't have the nostalgia for it like I do with B3.
Loved this franchise growing up. Had 1 and 3, missed out on 2, but 3 may be my favorite even to this day. All it needs is online. I swear I'd of done great.
32:43 the reason Budokai 2’s opening looks a bit off is cause they got a top key animator and directors on Z - Kazuya Hisada - to key animate scenes. However, due to his time transitioning to One Piece’s style and getting rusty on Dragon Ball, it retains some One Piece qualities such as proportions, eye width, and big mouths Hisada continued his work on Super as well :))
Love how much effort you put into this. Love how you still have so much experience to share considering you didn’t have as much access to media as you could have.
Gotta say, seeing Piccolo hold off Super Buu would’ve actually been really awesome in the anime. It would’ve been cool to see Piccolo muster up everything he has and use his experience to give Buu a run for his money. Instead of him, you know… standing around doing nothing.
I can explain the Future Trunks warning about Broly that Gohan explained. At one point. Future Trunks has going to have a Dragon Universe. And he was going to fight Broly. There are some voice lines unused. In one of them Future Trunks says "I have to warn Gohan". Cell Jr was going to have a Dragon Universe where he betrays his father. Saibaman was also going to have one, in which they join the Z-Fighters. If Future Trunks Dragon Universe was included. Broly's story would make more sense
Man, Budokai 2 and 3 were awesome. I played through 2s story mode recently and it was so fun and overall a real step up gameplay wise. 3 had the most fun combat (except for Dragon Rush) and the GT and movie additions were really nice. I wish 2 and Infinitie world got remastered.

Alright! I've been looking forward to this! Here we go! You have quickly become one of my favorite DBZ content creators on UA-cam. The passion level is over 9000! Raging Blast retrospective in the works after Infinite World? That's funny, I watch CPU vs CPU battles all the time. That Saiyan Armor shirt is awesome! Budokai 3's opening theme is where it's at. These games look great on PCSX2 at 3x native resolution. This is comedy gold! I don't think I've been more amused watching other DBZ content on UA-cam.
I had the North American version of Budokai 1, and you could actually see that PAL opening if you stayed on the start menu long enough. The first time you'd get a fight demo, but the second time you'd get that video. Always liked that more personally. Never knew it was the main opening vid in the PAL version.
Seriously one of the best videos I've seen in terms of a retrospective review on some of my old favorite games. You have no idea how much I love these when UA-camrs make them. You put so much effort into it and I really appreciate you. Nice job dude
I am so happy I found this channel. I love all the budokai content. I’m currently playing them again + for the first time Infinite World. 10/10 content. Thank you!
You've covered my favourite series of dragon Ball games in such great detail, and I loved your sprinkles of humour throughout the review's, my favourite games out of budokai would definitely be the 1st and 3rd and budokai tenkaichi would be 2 and 3, I grew up with these games and the anime so I appreciate seeing other takes on these games from someone else who has had similar experiences growing up. Also hoping bandai namco come out with a new dragon Ball kakarot sequel as that's probably been my favourite game so far adapted from the dragon Ball series.
When I was a kid, my friends and I would bet on computer vs computer battles in Budokai 3. We had a tournament board, and we'd bet things like snacks since we were all poor. One time, I bet everything for Krillen winning the whole thing, and somehow he did. It's one of my favorite memories.
Screw the popular opinion, I LOVE Budokai 1's artstyle, with characters looking like clay dolls, I LOVE the menu art, using hand-drawn illustrations, and I LOVE how story cutscenes are full of love for the source material, trying to retell the original story with arguably more passion than any other dragon ball game released after it. I don't even feel nostalgia for it: my first DBZ game was Budokai 3, and yet I love Budokai 1 more than any other DB game.
Burst mode or power struggle you're supposed to rotate both analog sticks not mash the face buttons. You can tell if you're winning by seeing the character guarding more or being on the attack more. If you're guarding more attacks you're losing and if you're attacking more you're winning
As for burst mode, I've gotten it really consistent, but the problem lies in how they explain it. The tutorials tell you you're supposed to mash buttons while rotating, when #1 it's mash buttons OR rotate (concentrating on one over the other generally will make it easier on the player) #2 I found rotating to be the dominant strategy overall (It might just be because I'm better at rotating but it seems to work exactly like clashes in Tenkaichi this way) My recommendation for you (If you even want to get it consistent or care about it at all. It's such a small part of the game after all lol) is to treat it like a Tenkaichi clash and just rotate. The clashes themselves will end much faster too.
Despite all the DBZ games that have come out over the years, BT2 and BT3 in my opinion still remains the most Unique and the best DBZ games in terms of content, quality and fanservices. And from the gameplay perspective aspects, these DBZ games that I mentioned are very close to the anime itself because of the Vibe and Charm, I don't know how to describe it but it was, and still is the most Unique DBZ experience you could have with the combat factor. (- Sheer amount de of characters - Transformations mid-battle (powering up and down) - Fusions mid-battle - Fast gameplay that has that "woah" feel - Tons of extra content - Story mode covering all sagas + movies - What If sagas - Shenron having permanent impact on game (character unlocks and whatnot) - Great tournaments that rotate availability - Edit characters with items (buffs) - 5v5 battles - Really Great and Epic Soundtracks - Destroyable environments - Entire stages could be blown up into their "destroyed" alternatives - Mission 100 being a great challenge - Artwork is 10/10 - Sound effects are great - Combat feels heavy and satisfying) Only Budokai 3, Infinite World and the Raging Blast 1 and 2 are still considered also very solid DBZ games, also the hidden gem that a lot of DBZ fans missed from PS2 Era of DBZ games is "Super Dragon Ball Z" which is also a real Unique and DBZ game, especially for the different gameplay aspects perspective. ✌☯️
I don’t know how to explain it but when Trunks got “got” it looked so cool because of the camera angles used and how quick it was to the point that Trunks got it and the slo mo and music was dare I say? Perfect.
I'd like to believe that's how he died in the future he might've got the heart attack mid fight and died or 19 finished the job while he was having it not to mention trunks wouldn't have been near old enough to tell when the symptoms started and Bulma wasn't around him so for all we know that's how it played out in the future too
Found your channel when trying to go on a nostalgia trip for the old budokai games, its very charming! I miss-remembered the games I played as the budokai tenkaichi series. Then I realised its just the budokai series and I never played the tenkaichi ones LMAO
The heart medicine was exactly that, medicine. You dont take medicine before you get a cold. You take it when you have a cold. Too many DBZ fans think its an antidote but it was only medicine to make sure he didn't pass
I always thought he did take it prior and it just wasn't a magic pill kind of deal. It takes time to work. Trunks technically said that Goku was supposed to die before the androids showed up. So given that he was able to have a battle at all against 19 to me shows the medicine started taking a slight effect, and the rest would improve with taking more/time.
@@jaketno that is a real possibility and I wouldn't doubt it. But too many dbz fans question it as if it was some antidote that Goku never took. Like maybe he wouldn't take it but all his friends and family wouldn't allow that!
Guilty pleasure, I really love Budokai 2... The Dragon World sucks, but at least it's short enough to run through and even play basically whoever you want after unlock them. After hearing you discuss the shortcoming of Budokai 2's story mode I was shocked. I had so much fun with it when I was younger but it clearly has some major drawbacks, and odd design choices that I didn't realize as a kid haha.
I haven't finished watching the video yet, but I love it so far. Just some things I'd like to mention though. You can actually tell when you're winning in Burst Mode. I'm not sure about Budokai 1, but in Budokai 2 you can tell by which character is attacking (or in the case of the losing side, blocking) more. You can see that in 38:43, where Goten is forced to block as Tien continues to go on the offensive. Also you can trigger the SSJ transformation in Budokai 2, but only if you choose Krillin and make sure Frieza is the one who takes his last health point. The game never tells you how to trigger this though, and even then you don't get rewarded with a fleshed-out cutscene. I only knew this because of a UA-cam video I watched years later.
King Kai’s Fist is a approximation of what Kaioken 界王拳 means in Japaneses which translates to The Fist of the Lord of the Worlds or World King’s Fist. King Kai’s name in Japanese being Kaio-Sama 界王様 or Lord of Worlds or World King. I was confused by this as a kid as well but studying Japanese gave a bit on insight on that particular translation.
the burst mode in budokai 1 actually only requires you to rotate the joystick. i too had the same problem for years pressing buttons while burst was happening. i understand the struggle.
Funny enough, Dragon Ball Z Budokai games are just called Dragon Ball Z, DBZ2 and DBZ3 in Japan, and DBZ1 uses Cha-La Head Cha-La, which makes sense since it's a recreation of the anime's first opening.
58:00 Its pretty insane because as an American I had the same experience going to the rental store every week. I remember I would often rent jackie chan and dbz movies when I could find them. And finding those dbz movies was a real treasure. I think it meant more to me then because now because of the internet everything is easily accessible, but back then it was like finding a treasure.
So far love your retrospect on one of my favorite games and to top it off you play kh which is another and your edits are cool 🤘🏾😭 thank you for this I miss dbz games like this.
Stumbled on your videos with Infinite World, just been watching since. Really enjoying your content! Hope you keep growing. Also, the nostalgia is huge.
Really been enjoying your content these past few days as I get back to rewatching and playing the anime and games (would be nice if I could find a PS2 copy of Tenkaichi 3 for less than a billion dollars tho forreal). Also really enjoyed your Jak trilogy retrospective. Keep up the great work! Oh and obligatory TENKAICHI 4 HYPE WOOOOOOOOOO
I thought I was tripping when I heard Erased’s Opening LOL That’s awesome and I love Budokai 1 it started it all for me my first introduction to Dragon Ball franchise
The fact that you need to do ultra specific things in order to unlock characters, means that you have to run through it more than twice. Unlocking some of these peeps was a F*CKING NIGHTMARE ^^^ Budokai 2
It hurts hearing all these bad comments about Budokai 2 since it is by far my favorite of the 3 original budokai games. Don't get me wrong, Budokai 3 is fantastic, but Budokai 2 hits my nostalgia factor a lot more than any of the three. I would play this game for hours, and even take it with my on my GameCube during vacations.
Budokai 2 I remember getting it for Christmas not liking it cause was bad at it gave it to my uncle for Christmas same day then got good at it and got it again for Christmas next year haha
I remember when I first got a ps2 back in the day, Budokai 2 had just come out. I only played Budokai 1 a few times at a friend's house and absolutely loved it as a fan who watched DBZ on YTV back in the day. I wanted Budokai 2, but my mother couldn't find it, and brought me Budokai 1. I played the hell out of that game. Bought Budokai 3 myself, and played that even more. To this day, Budokai 3 is still my favorite. We need a Xbox Series/PS5 port with online multiplayer ASAP
IIRC the best way to get the Dragonballs in Budokai 1 was to grind the World Tournaments ... I think it took forever cause it was a RNG that decided if you got a Dragonball ... I could be mistaken tho it was almost 2 decades ago Edit: Actually i think it was farming zeni from the tournaments in order to buy the random item from Mr popo that got you Dragonball
Something i noticed playing the hd collection, that you can mash all buttons during a beam strugle or whatever that clash is called. Saves the sticks and makes it an easy W on higher difficulty
I mean he could have told King Kai and friends to grab on real quick instead of having their "Why did you do this?" conversation lol sure Kai's planet would be ruined but at least they'd be alive.
@Jake Betts honestly bro by DBZ logic they had no time for that remember time moves way faster for them goku would have to let go of cell, warn them and they'd either have to grab him or vice versa plus the anime moves way slower than manga tbh there was no way anybody was getting out of there alive

the beginning of the video OMG that’s the opening music from ERASED !
I LOVE THIS!!
Ahh a fellow dbz abridged fan loved the edits 👌🏾
This is awesome!! Love the content!! Please keep up the good work!
Love ur dance segments❤
the burst mode in budokai 1 actually only requires you to rotate the joystick. i too had the same problem for years pressing buttons while burst was happening. i understand the struggle.
Yes. All the Budokais. Why go outside when you have these games?
I love this video! thanks a lot and im really impressed, subbed hard.
Now genuinly excited to see your thoughts on Infinite World :).

Great video, you've earned a subscriber
Awesome, thank you!
Loving your Budokai/Tenkaichi reviews

Stumbled on your videos with Infinite World, just been watching since. Really enjoying your content! Hope you keep growing.
Also, the nostalgia is huge.
Keep up the great work. New sub for you. Really like these break down vids.

She’s done it again!!!!🔥🔥💪🏽
Yooo I really appreciate this! 👍
New Budokai Tenkaichi game confirmed!!
I thought I was tripping when I heard Erased’s Opening LOL That’s awesome and I love Budokai 1 it started it all for me my first introduction to Dragon Ball franchise
The fact that you need to do ultra specific things in order to unlock characters, means that you have to run through it more than twice. Unlocking some of these peeps was a F*CKING NIGHTMARE

Budokai 2
It hurts hearing all these bad comments about Budokai 2 since it is by far my favorite of the 3 original budokai games. Don't get me wrong, Budokai 3 is fantastic, but Budokai 2 hits my nostalgia factor a lot more than any of the three. I would play this game for hours, and even take it with my on my GameCube during vacations.
Personally I loved the story mode in 3, but I can see how the lack of explanations would hurt the experience for someone unfamiliar with the story.
41:45 these Buu absorptions only ever appeared in this singular game. 😢 Such a shame.
I could be mistaken tho it was almost 2 decades ago
Edit: Actually i think it was farming zeni from the tournaments in order to buy the random item from Mr popo that got you Dragonball
Hi, I'm Alex. I love your videos!
watching this while playing thru the Tenkaichi 3 Story. good time
Something i noticed playing the hd collection, that you can mash all buttons during a beam strugle or whatever that clash is called. Saves the sticks and makes it an easy W on higher difficulty
it bothers me that goku didn't teleport cell quickly and then just teleport back.
😂
It’s probably because he took cell to king kais planet and Gokus character wouldn’t allow him to let king Kai and bubbles die and leave them.
@@rubymerakibeatz2211 ah yes so he is willing to murder them but not teleport back to his son and wife gotcha.
It's crazy how badly structured the Budokai 3 story mode is. I know the DB story so well and still got confused about the jumps in timeline lol
You can dig in budokai 2 holy shit i dumped at least 200 hrs on this game as a kid had zero clue you could dig
I just started the video and I'm already laughing at the fact piccolo is a selling point for budokai 1 🤣🤣
