I bought a 165 and setup the watch face, which included an elevation data field so you could access that information as needed. After the first update, that feature was removed and you can no longer access the elevation data outside of an activity. After reaching out to Garmin, they told me they removed the feature to "differentiate" the lower end device as such. To remove a feature that was previously there as soon as you release the product, which contains the hardware for the feature is a really bad look. I put in a case and Garmin verified the presence before, the the lack of the feature after the update and told me they would reach out via email to update me on whether this will be aded back. So far, I've not heard back form them ...sad.
And then there's Coros doing the exact opposite, pushing new features to their old models.
I know it's all a business strategy to try and make people move away from Garmin but this shit is infuriating.
@@MrAdrian4o Yeah I returned the garmin. Tried a few others that had quality issues and then just ditched garmin in general. Been using the apple watch ultra and it is mostly working for my needs. I get 3 days of battery life, and can get between 15-20 hours of Gps recording time. I would need to charge it daily on a multiday if I was using it to navigate, but those are rare and I'd likely be using a different setup for nav anyway. The apple watch is way more useful for daily life and have had no issues otherwise.

What would your recommendation be between the 255, 955 and Fenix 7 Pro for a 24/7 watch. Manual job and mainly weightlifting and running. I love the slimness of the 255 but the flashlight of the Fenix 7 Pro!

Thanks! The training metrics only show up if you own a watch that includes them, so they would only show up on the app if you executed a Workout and have linked in a 265!

If you are good with a MIP display, the base 255 version is also a good option over the 165. Have been really happy with mine.
The 255 is a no-brainer.
Yeah that's a totally good point, it lacks the training readiness and obviously the screen dynamics, but is a really inexpensive solution with the training analytics

Garmin overcomplicates their lineup. Does the 255 get you those additional tracking features that you find in the 265? What is the upgrade from the 255 to the 265?

I recently bought a 165 Music as my first fitness tracker. Although I am mostly happy with it I recently realised that although it will track pool swims it cannot store swim workouts which is very disappointing to me. Trying to discernn the differences between feature sets on Garmin's range of watches is way, way too complicated, they really ought to simplify their lineup.
I don't understand - how can it track swims if it cannot store the workout?
@@emf6621 It has a swim activity, and the result of the activity can be stored, but it doesn't have organised, planned swim workouts. Garmin differentiation in action.
This is one for Amoled suckers, who will put the bright colours over functionality. The 165 has the features of a budget watch but the price tag of far superior watches like the 255. Sorry but it is what it is.
I'm not the "sucker" you're talking about and describing. I've been running 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons for 20+ years. I'm strictly run only. I got this watch due to budget, and I don't need all the extras the 255 and other Garmin watches have I'll never use, I could've bought. Sorry, but sucker comment is irrelevant. You must be describing the "suckers" who use these devices for fashion.
@marvin7533 well said! I don't understand these types of comments from people assuming the 165 is only being purchased just for the display. I've also seen many comments stating the 165 is for beginner or non runners. Do they they seriously believe that? How would they know? I have been running since the early 80s, and i bought the 165 a couple weeks ago enjoying it! You're absolutely right about not needing the extras. Most don't meet my needs either. A couple members in my run club also purchased the 165 and very happy with it. Enjoy your 165, and good luck on your 2024 runs!

Dunno. £299 (music version) to £430 is a decent jump I'd say.
What is the difference between 265 vs 965? Is there any difference other than the maps of course.
