Speed bumps are great for wrecking suspension after constant use. It's also not great being in the back of an ambulance with loads of speed bumps lurking! 30mph is perfectly adequate to keep the traffic moving and this is just a scam to create even more money for the councils to waste on stupid schemes.
"I'm old, I drive slow anyway" - if you can't drive properly, you shouldn't be on the roads. I wonder if she's one of those dangerous older drivers who emerges onto high speed roads at 40mph.
"What if a small group of world leaders were to conclude that the principal risk to the Earth comes from the actions of the rich countries?... In order to save the planet, the group decides: Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsibility to bring that about?" - Maurice Strong (First Director of the United Nations Environment Program)
The guy saying that cars were travelling at 50 to 60mph is likely a moron. Does he have any objective data for that statement? Or has he simply heard it from a local resident? We had a similar complaint from a resident in our local area who complained that most traffic was travelling at 50mph , but an objective study showed this to be complete b*ll*cks. If the case of the sad fatality did involve a vehicle travelling at that sort of speed, then the logical action is to enforce the 30mph limit properly, not lower it. Just lowering the limit is simply a paperwork exercise designed to show that local politicians are "doing something". We really need some unbiased data on the accident rate since this new limit was enforced before anyone can safely comment on its efficacy (perhaps my own opinion is wrong, but genuine statistical data could change my mind). The problem is that governing bodies have been shown time and time again to cherry pick their data for their own ends, so a completely independent body should look at this and it should not be funded by any organisation which is wanting the "right" answer. This legislation will affect nearly all motorists, but not the ones who habitually speed anyway. The Welsh tourist industry lost a little income that it would have had from me last year and I spent my money in England instead; I don't see that situation changing any time soon.
I was at a driver awareness course last year. The instructor actually agreed with another participant who stated that going 20mph was less polluting and more economical (mpg).
Work have asked me to go to Wales like 10 times in the past 6 months. I decline every time and cite the 20mph speed limit. I'm never going there again.
I Previously objected to the blanket decision to lower all roads to 20mph, I wish to see the evidence that was used to lower the limit, as I understand there needs to be evidence provided to place a speed camera, and good evidence to alter a speed limit, no evidence was sited, just 600+. Chosen people to change the. limit . Democracy does not seem to matter. I have lived in Gresford for 30+years and there has not been any accidents on the B5445, let alone fatality, The Chester Road from Wrexham centre to Rossett including (Marford Hill was 40 now 20 unbelievable ). This route is the only main road to Chester when the A483 is shut, which is quite often due to accidents on the dual carriage way, to drive at 20mph is utterly useless as bicycles are passing cars, there is a continuous line of traffic on the 5445 and people cannot get out of any side roads. Drivers are pulling out in front of others last minute as they are only doing 20, I have had this happen several times. The buses cannot get into as high gear up Marford hill and are constantly up and down the gears. This disaster of a decision is causing more congestion than ever. There are places for 20mph around schools and on large estates, but if as I think, its about pedestrian safety get people off their mobile phones and ear phones off, make people more aware of their surroundings and stop people on bikes and with prams just walking across the road without looking thinking that all drivers are responsible for their safety. All main roads should revert back to 30mph.
This idiotic law was brought in by the Politbureau in Cardiff with no account taken of the opinions of motorists and little prior warning. Thousands of signs have had to changed and bus timetables altered. Now after huge protests it is to be watered down at further cost. In N Wales some stretches of dual carriageway have been changed back to single lanes with no overtaking and in one case the redundant lanes have been allocated solely to cyclists even though they tend to use a long established scenically superior path running parallel a few yards away.
I reckon 20 mph or less is quite sensible & responsible , for very short distances ,outside schools , hospitals , main village & town high streets , outside old folks homes & residential housing estates. .What’s not sensible or responsible , is 20 mph limits that go on for longer distances or for no good reason or purpose .
The average offending speed was 28mph - assuming some were doing in excess of 30mph (reasonable?) - some drivers must have been only just over the 20mph limit on roads which have been 30mph for the past decades!!! I accept the law is the law so don't break the speed limit, however most of us are happy to accept 20mph in the vicinity of schools, hospitals etc. but this really is just a cash cow yet again at the motorists expense.
@@Sir.Fisher I agree, I have family in Australia where they have limits ranging from 30k t0 110k (I think - not been there for 14 years) and the traffic police are heinous. My stepsister says the number of rear end shunts is ridiculous, she blames it on people looking at their speedometers. Whether that's true or not it makes you think.
So usual nonsense, in a 30 area 'people were going through here 50 60 miles an hour'. So we will lower the speed limit to 20 to make it safe. No, the law abiding will try to comply but the numpties who ignored the previous speed limit will ignore the new limit... not rocket science!
This has nothing to do with road safety. It is simply a Party Political broadcast aimed against Welsh Labour. It avoids the point that the Senedd have already rescinded the 'blanket' 20 mphy policy and local councils are at liberty to increase the limit on individual roads consistent with road safety. It is also pertinent to note that there was no real petition against the blanket limit it was simply an online effort where anyone from anywhere in the UK was able to click a box. It was therefore wholly meaningless. Hopefully a number of roads will go back to 30 but meanwhile drivers have to keep to the 20 limit where applicable bearing in mind that if they exceed it it is their fault and not the limit. Remember that the average speed of offenders was 28mph so most were doing nearly 50% over the limit!
Where were ygou when brexit was being touted as the answer to everything - too late to campaign now. The money from Wales to National Government is a rounding error - Wales is largely irrelevant. I do tend to think that 20mph is a bit slow but try convincing someone who lost a loved one to a speeding motorist. Is this the most important thing to worry about? Pollution, eduction, health and justice are the high battle grounds - get to it
Thats Wales off my possible holiday destination next year.
Why? So you can go to a second home or BNB that displaces Welsh residents
I have a choice and will not travel or holiday in Wales, 20mph is all about money.
A speed camera set at 20mph has been cut down in my area ~ brilliant!
Is anyone jailed for committing criminal damage think it’s brilliant.

It's an easy money making cash cow for councils. Vehicles are not fuel efficient at 20 mph !

The most ridiculous bit is, the camera is calibrated, a vehicles speedometer is not, and no one drives with their gaze fixed upon the speedometer.
