  • In this video, we take a look at my 1996 Suzuki DR350. It sat unridden for about a year, and a least half of that time was outdoors. I go over cleaning the carburetor as well as fixing the sticky throttle cables.

    Just picked up a clean '97...what a great little bike, stepping down from a XR650L and feel like the only thing I'm giving up is 60lbs..not to mention lower seat..

    Late to your channel. Carbs man, carbs. As my friend said many years ago. He was a Pro MX rider team Honda. Rode 3rd Elsinore back in the day. Knee injury put him out. Turned wrenches after that until his death in 2022. His top 3 issues for bikes (general) 1. Lack of DTD maintenance. 2. Fuel problems. 3. Electrical. he used a metal restaurant tray for catching wayward springs, nuts, etc. Thanks for the VLOG. Thumbs up to you.

    Well done, I have owned several of these DR's and done all the things you did many times so it is good to see a video for others. I currently have 2, a kicker and electric .

      I'm glad the video helped out. Let me know if there's anything else I could make a video on that would help out.

    I might suggest a little step by step talking about specifically cleaning needle and seat (if this carb has one) and how to check the setting of the float. Is it possible to get out of alignment?
    Good video with option of more future steps as riding season (and things break) goes on. Have fun.

      This carb has one, but since it was in good condition I didn't have to spend effort on it. I did verify it's in good working condition by trying to blow air through the fuel line and make sure it sealed nicely.

    Nice DR I . I noticed the cargo rack on the back of your bike, I bought my DR from the guy who made those racks.

      Thanks a lot. The rack came with the bike and it's pretty useful

      Thanks. What model years are you looking at? Personally I think the years to get are between 96-99 as they came with electric start. They're a little more expensive but it's a nice quality of life upgrade with the easy button.

      @@Dan_And_Daves_Garage yes I would like the electric. I think those newer ones have improved suspension also. But I have my eye on an older kicker. Leaks oil I am told. Hopefuly a good deal. Going next week to check it out. It's not on the market yet.

      @@Dan_And_Daves_GarageI'm also looking at one of these, it's a 97' with a little less then 10k miles and a pump carb already installed as well as some stiffer suspension. Looks to be a solid deal at 3k listed and I might be able to talk them down a little more

    How tall are you? I'm slightly vertically disabled @ 5' 7"/160lbs. I wanna get one of these but I worry about how well I can touch.
    Please keep up the vids.

      I am 5'8" 170lbs. The rear suspension is soft and compresses a decent amount which helps. Definitely not flat footing but I have no trouble on the trail or riding around town.

    No mention of checking the pilot and main jet for occlusions. What condition is the tank? Rusty? Since the initial carb condition is pretty clean, what did you do to help it to start?

    • @Dan_And_Daves_Garage
      @Dan_And_Daves_Garage  9 місяців тому

      Since I've owned the bike for a while I know that the tank is rust free. Plus when I stored I stored it full of gas so it wouldn't flash rust the inside. The reason I cleaned the carbs was because of an occlusion in the pilot jet.

      But can u still mention all other possible factors just in case this alone doesn't fix it for that viewer's bike. In other words, can u list other 'if not this, then it could be that scenarios...'?
      For a DIYer this can turn into finding a needle in a hat stack pretty quick and become overall frustrating real quick.

    Unclear exactly what you did with the throttle cable and what was the fix for it sticking. How could it be too short after you reinstalled it when it was previously okay???

    • @Dan_And_Daves_Garage
      @Dan_And_Daves_Garage  11 місяців тому

      The new throttle cable was too short so the original one had to be bathed in oil for a while and then reinstalled it. Never got to use the new part. Hopefully that clears it up.
