OK, again, spoken like someone judging the performances but not listening to the actual "song" of the arrangements. The performance wasn't the best that night, but that doesn't mean what they were playing was not the best to listen to
Too staccato and messy for me. Similar to 'Different me' from 2016 which was cleaner and sweeter. Better performance needed for 2019 now Renegades have found their groove.

It is what it is.... Zander has a style of repeating lines continuously throughout his arrangements and adding a little to each repeated part. It's called layering. If you remove those repeats the actual arrangement would be half of the playing time. Oh well.... Another victory for STEELPAN.

Carlton Munroe How?? I like Despers arrangement ---but Skiffle had MORE elements in their style, with a twist of the American flare. More to listen and clean. Just my thought...respect
It ain't no wonder Despers did so poorly. Someone walking in on them playing at the 3:40 mark will have no idea what calypso they are playing until the 7:20 mark. They went nearly 4 minutes without any reference to calypso they came to play. Compare that to Renegade, it was all "Year for love " all the time

I don't understand these arrangers who find a vamp for the low pans and then just sit on it for four minutes of their arrangement. No one except the Samaroos, and now it seems Duvone Stewart, know how to arrange low pans at all. Also, even if this was a superior arrangement to Stewarts (which it's not), the performance is so completely lackluster. I don't necessarily need fire and balloons, but the musicians appear bored while playing. Where's the zeal, where's the ecstasy, where's the tiniest bit of oomph? Stewart combines the superior arranging style of the 80s and 90s with the new mach one level energies of the 21st century. Renegades remain the best band, in memory and in present.

There was no zeal because all bands knew after Renegades played in position No1 no oher band wouldve been able to top that performance.
