Back in the day I had the following in succession; AX GT, Renault 19 16V, Impreza Turbo, Impreza STi, Impreza P1, Integrale EVO 2, Civic Type R. Greatest days of my life.
Driving an MR2 myself at the time, I managed to talk two girls I knew into buying the 106 Rallye. They both loved them to death and still affectionately talk about them today.
The Lancia Delta HF 4WD actually gave Juha Kankkunen his Second world drivers championship, after winning his first one the year before when he drove his first and only year at Peugeot.
Exactly! Far more pedigree than the 323, 106, Pulsar or Golf Rallye, driven by greats like Ragnotti, Sainz and Rohrl, and had its own one make series. This video just ignores Group B, even though the 'homologation specials' of that era were far more interesting. The 5 Turbo must have been one of the earliest turbo road cars also (after the 930).
Love the golf Rallye, had the privilege to own 2 of them over the years, using one as a daily drive for 7 years in the late 90’s early 2000’s, the second more of a show/occasional car, one came from a Wuppertal near cologne and the other from Shleiswig Holstein near the Danish Border! both were chipped and were around 220bhp which was much more user friendly A point you missed is that the Limited was a 16v version of the G60 configuration 👍🏻
Too much weird lag sensation between gears when driven hard through the gears, all three cylinder turbos do that. Ive driven loads, none were smooth, always a hesitation as if the computer cant detect pedal input quick enough. Only one to avoid that problem IMO are BMW twin turbos on the 1.5 three cylinder units. NA three cylinder engines dont suffer the same problems.
Not entirely sure if it was a homologation special but always liked the bonkers less than a litre but supercharged and turbocharged engined Nissan super march otherwise known as a micra in England
The Nissan March Super Turbo was what I heard it called. You are correct in the liter displacement. I don't think it was a homologation car, but you are accurate in saying it was bonkers. Thank you for mentioning it. Haven't thought about that car in years, back when Nissan was awesome.
How about the Subaru Vivio RX-R? A supercharged, AWD Japanese market kei car that took on the 1993 Safari Rally in the hands of, among others, Colin McRae.
Theres nothing pointless about a boost guage on a turbocharged car. This is something only someone that has never had a turbo'd car or has never had to rectify any problems with one. A very helpful guage for checking the turbo is working exactly how it should be. For example, I wouldn't have known that my turbo actuator ram is bent and the car is only boosting to 1.3bar instead of 1.5 other than for how it felt. A guage is more accurate than that and is very useful.
A proper boost gauge is useful, especially when you've taken the intercooler off your GTiR and forgotten to reconnect the wastegate actuator hose and are wondering where all the power has suddenly come from, but a lot of early turbo cars had wildy inaccurate gauges with no numbered markings on them, or worse, a turbo light that would just illuminate with positive boost pressure.
I personally don't see it as a wagon, and never have. The Legacy and Outback are wagons, but the GF8 has always been a hatch in my mind. It's not big enough to be a wagon.
@@ljphoenix4341, hatchback cars doesn't have windows after the C-Pillar. Wagons do. And GF8's are designed as a sports wagon. That is why the rear sloped a bit. BTW, it's your own opinion. And I have mine...
Any one ever hear off the JDM Nissan Pulsar VZR N1.. Had the most powerful 1.6L N/A engine(SR16VE) at 201 HP , there was also the more common 175 HP version..
My thoughts too! The road-going T16 was worthy of its homologation status, despite its downrated 200bhp, and even the GTI that sprung from that era was close. And generally accepted as the best car of its class for many years... Oh well.
@@sag2974 I guess they thought Group B gets too much focus and wanted to highlight some others? Or they only wanted front engined cars? Hot hatches with 5 seats? Not sure they've ever had a 5 Turbo at Goodwood FoS except the Maxi car.
They wouldn't be above the cars which are actually IN this list though, and in fact, dozens more cars would come before those. The Yaris hasn't proven anything yet.
I would have even forgiven you for the nonsense of including the Subaru at the end, but for the glaring and unforgiveable omission of the Renault 5 Turbo, but noooooo......
Which is the greatest homologation special hot hatch of all time and why is it the Lancia Delta?
Because it is the Deltona...!
Haha, brilliant question. And I agree, it is the Delta!
Rs 200 ofc

I was on my way furiously waving my pitchfork to make this comment lol
You gotta love homologation cars. Great vehicles with an interesting background.
I really enjoyed this video.
Lancia Delta is my favourite old-school hardcore rally queen hothatch!
Around 91 I had an Astra Gte 16v a 2 years old brilliant car ,replaced it with a j reg Cavalier gsi 200016v and loved that even more .
No love for the Renault 5 Turbo rally? It was mad and predated all of these.

Celica gt4 deserves a mention
Wasn't Juha Kankkunens first WRC title in 86? I'm pretty sure he won with Peugeot.
GR Yaris for me, not a classic yet, but it will be.

GR too weak and ugly to be compared to these legends

Great seeing the Mazda 323 there.
Lancia Delta is my favorite
Those where an amazing machines, i wish car manufacturers do more available hothatches this days
I forgot all about the Mazda, great videp
Все эти машины прекрасны. Прекрасны и правила омологации тех лет, которые заставляли производителей выпускать действительно, интересные машины.

I love hatchbacks 🙂🤙
Integrale wins it for me but you did forget to add a worthy contender to that list…the Alfa 147 GTA
Fiesta!
The Lancia and Ford for me please.
❤ LANCIA
great video
@GRAN TURISMO TV please take note of this list. Remember when they were included?
8:53 - I'm looking at the GF8 Impreza as a wagon/estate version rather that a hatchback.
Shhh. 😏 We're bending the rules to include it because it's cool!

@@robair67 a true homologation special that was exciting to look at and drive. Unlike the Golf Rallye. Goodwood need to sack some staff.. 🤣
No 5 Turbo, either. Seems like they want to exclude Group B era.

Nissan pulsar gtir, mazda 323, gtr and Ford escort rs nevermind hope these come in gran turismo 7
5:34 dont you mean Nissan pulsar GTI-R
in the UK it was called Sunny
@@lilripsta911 interesting
It's a Pulsar to most of the World, or a Sentra.
It's a sunny in Europe
205 T16
Clio Williams?
Toyota's starlet GT turbo ??
I don't think there's one rubbish rally car, they all look mental.
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth 4x4 was originally designed with 3 rear spoilers.

Audi Quattro ?
not a hatchback, it a coupe, the rear glass stays in place.
