    We had a blast eating our way through Berlin and trying as many of the local foods there as we can. If you have a favourite German food or a favourite restaurant in Berlin, let us know in the comments so we can try it out next time we are back. In our next video we'll be in another German city starting with "B" Any guesses? 😊 Thanks so much for watching! - Brandon & Anja

    I'm a no casings (intestines) girl. Had no idea the Berlin Kabab has been around so long, looked great with all the veg. Like the idea of the HB eggs in mustard sauce. Not a big fan of eggs but love mustard anything. I've seen eggs in a curry sauce. The meatballs in caper sauce sounds yummy. Thanks for showing some different dishes from Berlin. Hi from Oregon! Best to you in 2025!

    I grew up in Berlin, I feel like kebabs are a staple food in Berlin and now I live in another city and travel all over Germany a lot for my job...
    It is very, very difficult to get a kebab as good and original as in Berlin - in my opinion the best kebabs outside of Berlin are rather below average in Berlin.
    A good kebab consists of flatbread, a choice of three sauces (herb sauce, garlic sauce, hot sauce), white cabbage, red cabbage, tomato and cucumber and lettuce and of course good meat, with cheese if you like... 99% of kebabs in Berlin only consist of these ingredients and anything else to choose from is not original (often in the rest of Germany)!!! Sounds strange as there are so few ingredients, but kebabs in Berlin taste different and not all kebabs are the same - in Berlin the competition between the different shops is to make a difference with just these same ingredients... while many in other regions of Germany add other ingredients or sauces to the selection.
    In my current city, almost every shop puts the toppings on the kebab in the wrong order, which makes it taste completely different, and good, homemade sauces (very important for a kebab) are very difficult to find outside of Berlin.
    It's always a tradition for me and my friends to eat a kebab when we visit Berlin... It feels like home.

    • @wherearewe-yt
      @wherearewe-yt  День тому +1

      Haha, I (Anja) totally feel the same. I feel like such a Kebab snob and I'm not sure if other people usually get it 😆. But the kebabs in other countries are never the same. In Spain the sauce would always be super watery and apart from meat there was not much filling inside. And most places always put the sauce on last which makes it super messy and a completely different experience. I always feel like I should enlighten them about the order to put the ingredients in 😂. Even in Turkey the Döner Kebabs are not nearly as good as back home and they are completely different. I thought other cities in Germany or Austria would have good kebabs but then I got one in Cologne and the sauce was a jogurt/tzatziki sauce which was weird and a disappointment.

    If you are still in Berlin and want to have the experience in a GDR restaurant you have to go to the restaurant “Volkskammer”. It's at Ostkreuz station, where the Ostel is. This restaurant is just like it used to be, even the decoration is like in GDR times including the Bauhaus crockery and cutlery. You can't change anything, you have to take what's on the menu and the waitress even told me that a certain dish is no longer available. Unfortunately you have to book a table in advance.

    Oggi’s Gemüsekebab is the best gemuse kebab in Berlin, they make all their own sauces and you can taste every component. I was at Rüyam the other day and totally agree with you as it isnt the best (3 out of 5 from me).

      Yes, we said that it was made by Turkish immigrants in the video. This specific type of kebab is unique to Germany, but of course, it still has Turkish roots. We have spent almost 4 months in Turkey, and have tried all types of Turkish kebab..but this specific variation is unique to Berlin.
