Where Are We?!
Canada
Hello, and welcome to our channel!
Now, a little about us. We are Brandon (Canadian) and Anja (German)- an International traveling couple.
Despite being new to this UA-cam thing, we have actually been traveling on and off for the past 8 years! We have lived in 8 countries together, and have recently reached the 50th of our 50 country goal together.
During this time, we've been asked, "why don't you guys start a UA-cam or travel blog?", several times by friends and family. We finally looked at each other and said, "why not?!".
If you share a love of food, culture and adventure, we would absolutely love you to subscribe and join us on this journey.

Traditional GERMAN FOOD TOUR in BREMEN 🇩🇪 - Delicacies of NORTHERN GERMANY
In this week's video, we go on a traditional German food tour in Bremen. We try some of the delicacies of northern Germany.
Given that Bremen is known for seafood, we decide to start our day off at Fisherman's Seafood Bremen to grab a Bremer fish sandwich.
From here, we decide to check out St. Peter's Cathedral, located in Altstadt.
After admiring the incredible architecture, we make our way towards Markthalle Acht. It's here that we find an amazing shop called Made in Bremen, which sells a variety of local goods. We decide to grab a local Union beer, and some Bremer Kluten.
Still hungry for more local food, we decide to check out Stadtmusikanten Bistro. We decide to try the Stadtmusikanten Teller, which comes with labskaus and knipp.
From here, we decide to take a walk along the Weser River and enjoy the wonderful views.
Next, we decide to walk to Böttcherstraße, a 100m-long street known for its unique architecture.
Our next stop is Schoor, a neighborhood in the medieval center of Bremen. At the entrance, we discover a cute little bakery called Bäckerei im Schnoor. Here we try two classic Bremen desserts, the Schnoorkuller and the Bremer Klaben.
Upon finishing our snacks, we continue to explore this wonderfully magical district, taking a quick break to explain the Town Musicians of Bremen fairytale.
For our final stop of the evening, we head to a hip neighborhood called Das Viertel. Here, we visit a local bar, Haifischbecken, and have a local Bremen beer.

"this is one of my favourite street foods. - if you wanna call it that". dude, döner kebab is the definition of street food. it was invented for just that. to eat on the go. kebab itself is turkish but what you get there is kebab on a plate with some salad on the side. that what we call a "Dönerteller" over here. the idea to put it in bread came up because germans were usually pretty busy with short lunch breaks so they could eat it on the way back to work. "Waldmeister" is probably one of the most successful artificial flavours on this planet. Waldmeister is a herb that really excists, but has absolutely nothing, and i mean nothing, to do with what the artificial flavour tastes like. the industry just needed a name for that "herby" flavour so they took the name of Waldmeister because it somewhat sounds cool and most people have never ever tasted the herb itself so they cant complain, that it has nothing to do with it. if you talk about Waldmeister everyone immediately has that flavour and knows hot it tastes. its one of the most indoctrinated tastes there is. the color is as artifical as can be aswell.
How can you make a video about food in Bremen and don’t try a Rollo, that’s different variations of a Kebab-Roll created by a turkish Migrant and developed in many variations…
Bannock did originally come from Scotland x I ate it a lot as a child in England so delicious 😋🇬🇧🏴💕
Cool Video! My Grandpa was an mounted Police Officer in Bremen.

Bremen is not my home town, but it is my adopted home. I lived there from 1991-2008, then I moved to Bremerhaven (because of my job). But once a month I HAVE to go to Bremen for my mental health. So varied, so many neighbourhoods with their own flair, all kinds of shops, not just ‘C&A and other chains’. Bremen is generally very provincial, but the variety of different restaurants, shops, local designers and ‘scene’ is unfortunately not to be found north of this great city. If you should ever explore Bremerhaven: it is not part of the city of Bremen, but part of the federal state of Bremen, a city in its own right. There are some excellent places worth visiting, especially the ‘Klimahaus’ and the ‘Auswandererhaus’. In culinary terms, Bremerhaven is a diaspora. There is the ‘Schaufenster Fischereihafen’, a tourist mile with fish restaurants. You can also buy fresh and/or smoked fish there. Bremerhaven residents only buy there if they have to, they shop in the unimposing but great shops in Freiladestraße or ‘Am Lunedeich’. The goods are better and cheaper. A cultural scene is now also developing in the ‘Alte Bürger’. The Goetheviertel is also worth a visit, although the old buildings there are either scrap or hardly anyone can afford the flats in the beautifully renovated houses. My lovely years in Bremen I lived in "The Viertel", and it was so great, so communicatively, so much diversity (before this word became hyped. For your weekend shopping, you stroll from the local butcher to the Turkish greengrocer, on to the organic baker and take a break in a café. Sometimes you would meet actors from the nearby Goethe Theatre or people like Kai Wiesinger or Ben Becker, but there were no crowds of autograph hunters, because these people were also part of the normal street scene. All this makes the ‘1/4’ so special and worth living in.
Another beautiful German Hansestadt with Lots of medival Buildings is Lübeck in the near of Hamburg. It is arounded by the river Trave and you can ship along the old town and the granary, which were Part of the Film Nosferatu (1922).
We haven't been there yet, but a few people recommend Lübeck! We will have to visit some day.
Bremen is a ruined city.
Why? It did not seem ruined at all. It was lovely.
23:25 you stand 10 m away from the House I used to live in till 2006 😅
Welcome to my Hometown 😍
Thanks! 🙂
when i see this döner-kebab i remember my last order via delivery. the meat was fine layered around the edges so it looked packed but inside was nothing else than fillings with vegies.
Our Döner had two layers of meat. At the bottom and a bit at the top. It was perfect. I know what you mean, though, and it's my pet-peeve when the meat is at the top and then not at the bottom. In Berlin they usually layer the ingredients in a specific order. First sauce, then meat, then vegetables, and maybe a bit more meat and sauce. If I go abroad and have a Kebab and the order is wrong, I'm so annoyed 😂
I recommend the Café Knigge in the Sögestraße. It is a nice traditional greatful coffeehouse. The pies and cakes are very delicious. ❤
That would have been great. Thanks for the recommendation! We will have to visit there next time.
If I know what she meant when she was talking about meat chips and they were from tarczyński these were pretty good. In my opinion the best kabanosy are chili ones. Everyone I know eats kabanosy by separating 2-4 parts from the rest
Were the meat chips like potato chips or like beef jerky? Was it actually meat? We found meat chips in Georgia by a similar brand that looked like a Tarczyński knock off. It was actual meat and they tasted quite nice.
@ actual meat
i dont want hipster areas in my city. It always results in people taking drugs and shtting on the sidewalk
Hipsters and junkies are two very different things. 😂
That's a good amount of jam in that Pfannkuchen. If you buy them a supermarket you get some with barely any jam inside. Next time I'm in Berlin I might have some time to visit such iconic food places rather than just going to whatever is close to the concert venue.
It did indeed, that's true! But it better for that price tag. 😂 We used to go to cities for shows all the time - but one thing we always make time is a good local restaurant. You definitely should!
For me it's too much meat in the diner kebab. I usually order one normal and one only with salad and white cheese. Then I split the meat and the cheese and have two identical
Honestly, we rarely finish a whole kebab to ourselves when we order. In the case of this video, we were only able to take a few bites and then take them back to our hotel. 😅
The dom is half gothic and half romanic :)
Labskaus is a rich meal from the times, were you don´t have a refrigerator on the ships. You had these stable ingredients on a fisherboat: Potatoes, beetroot, pickles, canned beef and eggs (or even chicken), sometimes onions. Mix the Potatoes with the canned beef, spice it up with water from the pickles, throw beetroot, pickles and an egg on top and...yes...we´re on a fisherboat.... also Hering....enjoy you´re your rich meal! There´s no specific or original recipe for this dish. Pimento, cloves or nutmeg are common add-ons, sometimes even juniper berries.
Knipp has to be eaten with Apple sauce everything else is barbaric 😂
They didn't offer any! 😟

I really like your Videos! But the straight cut from "Schnoor" to "Haifischbecken" is a bit weird if ur tasting Bremen Food!! You missed Tandour in half of the way! Its just from 1980, but defininately a Tradition in Bremen! So....just 1 Choice for u: You have to come back!!!
We had never heard about this rollo until this comment section. We definitely missed out! It would have been the perfect addition to the video.

Haha. Mit oder ohne Darm? 😆
If your interested in true history crime, there's a "Spuckstein" nearly the Bremer Dom. Legend has it to spit off the Stone, because this is exaktly the place, who Gesche Gottfrieds head is falling down after her execution. Gesche Gottfried was a poinsonmurderer and her death was the last public execution in Germany.
Ooooooh! We do love true crime. That would have been right up our alley. 😈
German food is amazing! That gemuse kebab looks so good 😭
It is! We always crave Berlin kebabs. Easily one of our favorite street foods anywhere in the world. And now I want one..😭
@ we used to always order from GDK (German Donner Kebab) in the UK, but nothing beats the real thing 😂 can’t wait for your Bangkok content! We just arrived here last night!
We went to GDK in our of our UK videos..it was actually surprisingly legit! We can't wait for Bangkok. It's been YEARS since we've been. It's easily one of our favorite food cities in the world, for sure. How long are you guys going to be there? Maybe we'll see ya there!
@ we lived off it during Covid 😂😂 and yesss the food is amazing! We had braised pork pad kra pao for the first time today in Bangkok and it was heavenly. We’re in Bangkok until Thursday and then biking around Northern Thailand for the next three months! That’d be awesome, are you coming up north at all? 😄
That sounds fun! We plan to be in Bangkok for the first two months, then Chiang Mai for the last month. We'll be floating around in SE/East Asia for at least two years, so maybe we'll see you guys somewhere. 😎
It gives 2, that Bremen & Bremerhaven on the Coast ;)
The "Berliner Weisse" you drank is in fact no real Berliner Weisse, it is actually a so called "Kettle Sour". Real Berliner Weisse you can find from Schneeeule in Wedding or the "Budike Weisse" from Lemke or Brło have also an authentic one. And real Berliner Weisse you don't mix with Syrup. The 3 Breweries i mentioned have versions with the typical tastes like woodruff and raspberry but they putted it in as adjuncts in the brewing process.
My parents always used to mix with Syrup. Even if it's not the real deal as you said, it therefore still kind of is, because that's what real "Berliners" used to do and I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't even know that it's wrong 🤓😊😂.
@wherearewe-yt sure. The real Berliner Weisse was dead for decades. Berliner Kindl brought up this beer at some point and called it "Berliner Weisse". But a few years back Ulrike Genz of Schneeeule catcht some yeast of 100 years old bottles to regenerate the real ones with brettanomyces yeast. At the same time Brło and Lemke also brought real Berliner Weisse back with also brettanomyces. So it is no wonder that your parents and generations before them only know Berliner Kindl as Berliner Weisse.
Makes sense. I actually remember drinking Berliner Weisse a few years ago in Berlin at the opening event for Stone Brewing because Brandon worked there. They've since sold their brewery to Brewdog so they don't exist in Berlin anymore. But it was sour and had no syrup and I was confused at the time and only learned then, that Berliner Weisse is a type of sour beer 😅. So I guess I've drank a legit version before, although I'm not sure if they made it the right way there. I do really like the syrup in it, though 🙂.
@@wherearewe-yt the Kindl version is also sour when there is no syrup in it. But they get it sour in another way in the brewing process like real Berliner Weisse and that's the main difference. I think they just couldn't do it right when they started with it. And nowadays their beer is well liked and there us no reason to change it.
We tried to find it, but failed! Next time, for sure.
Berliner Luft is basically drinkable Mouthwash...
Delicious drinkable mouthwash! 😂
Dipping krokiety is good! You did the right thing! :)
The Polish viewers seem pretty spilt on this! Hahaha.
Hi from England is the back of your leg injured it looks red and sore 🇬🇧🏴💕
Oh haha, that's actually a tattoo 😂. It's a Barbie in a pink dress but due to the length of my trousers you can only see half of it so it might look a bit strange 🙂. It's not unlikely that I would hurt myself, though 😂

Love to see my hometown through your eyes ❤
It was actually our third visit. As I mentioned, the first two times were for a music event (Bremen Psychobilly Earthquake). The first time, we saw nothing. Second visit, we explored a but more, and really enjoyed it. But this THIRD time, we were doing a two week pet sit, so we were able to see what life would be like if we lived there ourselves. It made us fall in love with Bremen! Such a great city.
Labskaus has been one of the last dishes a cook could try to prepare on a ship, as most components were pickled or preserved in another way. The last thing would be a stew from the chickens, which would be kept in cages or run free on deck...
Makes sense! We would love to it again. I feel like our version looks more tame than some I have seen online. Many pictures, the labskaus looks VERY bright pink/purple from the beetroot. Ours tasted pickled, for sure, but not THAT strong. But then again.. we have no basis of comparison since we've only had it this one time. It was super tasty, though!
Nice video about food from my home town. :) "Hanseat" is a word to describe someone from a city which belonged to the Hanseatic League, which was once a league of merchants in medieval/early modern times. When you visited the Weser there is also a special ship - the pancake ship. Unfortunately it was closed (and still is) because there was a fire on the ship. But it will be back soon, I hope. They are serving different kinds of pancakes and the ship looks really old and like a pirate ship. :D About Böttcherstraße - it was built in the 1920s in this special and a bit weird way. There is a lot of more lore about the street and I can highly recommend a guided tour.
Thanks, we really enjoyed our catsit in Bremen 😊. A pirate ship serving pancakes sounds really interesting.
U missed the famous place Schnoor, u don´t taste Bremer Stübenkücken. Quick and cheap Visit of Bremen.
What do you mean? We went to the Schnoor district in the video. Stubenkücken sounds interesting. Das essen wir dann nächstes Mal. 😊
