NOTE: You might notice the exposure is a bit bright or dark in places. I think this is because I was using a prelease firmware. Subsequent firmware updates made reference to improving 10bit exposure accuracy.
Hey Stephen. Just popped over to pixel peep this footage from your other channel. Is there an option to dial down the sharpness? It's not a very filmic profile. Maybe that's what action enthusiasts are after, but I prefer a more filmic profile. (Great seeing the Lake District - I emigrated to Australia 20 years ago and your video brought back some happy memories.)
I did this for the first time last week. It was a dry day without wind. On the final climb to the top the lay of the rocks take you left, over to the grass, which isn't a good place to be, dry or wet. Head right a little and stick to the rock.
Stephen, your filmmaking has inspired me for years! I first found you because of your GoPro videos, but I stuck around because of your storytelling and adventurous spirit. Thank you for being the way you are!
Thanks so much for letting me know, that means a lot! 🙂 I'm getting back into tech videos over on my other channel: Steves Tech Emporium. Had to remove most of them from here as was killing views on my outdoors videos.
Hi Stephen great video loved the views some amazing shots and I know that it's been nearly a year, but what a great camera. Take care of yourself and yours mate, Alan 💯👍
Had to watch that with my eyes closed. PS I've just bought a Hero 11, hope I don't regret it, but the best action camera is still the one you remember to bring with you.
Another awesome video Stephen. You make running up a mountain look easy!! It must be a good camera too. Im reading other peoples comments and like them i enjoy appreciate the time you put into making a good video even tho ive no intentions of running anywhere!
I’m watching now this video and I think: “wow! how beautiful color!” Thank you for sharing! Keep going! Can I ask you which settings have you set for this kind of sharpness? But anyway this color is amazing!
Ya certainly put the camera through its test, ( as well as yourself ) .. looked a wee bit breezy up there … The slow mo looked very good … nice work Stephen 👌👍✌️
I'd planned on doing Crib Couch back at the start of the year when I was over but on the day I planned to do it the forecast winds were 40-50mph gusts. So decided to take an easier route up!
Such a well done video! The audio sounded amazing and video very good viewed on my large TV screen. Maybe Hoka needs to sponsor your channel because that was a great advert for the grippy Speedgoats too!! Great job!
All I can say is your one brave man tackling that ridge in terrible conditions. The footage was pretty good and I think most cameras would struggle in low light conditions. The grading perks up the colour tones. Have you used Davinci for your content creation at all? ATB.
Thanks! I was very careful checking the forecast ahead of it and had a few checkpoints that I would have turned around if conditions not right. I use adobe Premiere Pro, been using it professionally for years. Davinci is great but I'd have to dedicate at least 6 months to it to catch up with how fast I can edit in premiere
Poor guy is scared of heights too! It's a very popular ridge but responsible for a lot of mountain rescue call outs and about 1 death every 5 years. I wouldn't have set foot on it if it hadn't have been dry. It only got damp once I got to the final scramble and it was much safer by then.
Sharpness and detail looks good on the action 4, the over reactive local tone mapping is a bit too fast, similar to my iphone 12 pro. I'm liking how you graded the footage with the dark moody colours and vignettes/gradients. Sharp Edge looks great. Excellent video as usual.
I wouldn’t judge the speed of the tone mapping by this. Was early firmware and they updated it with subsequent releases. I think though the dlog is better suited to less action style filming. Grading was a pain, had to do each shot individually but decent results
Hey Stephen. Do you notice any rubbing noises when using the extension rod? I have the Action 3 and when I'm moving the rod around, it makes a horrible rubbing/vibration noise in the sound.
I actually forgot my mouth mount so I just stuck the mini tripod down behind the front straps of my running vest. Worked better than expected. Gave a similar view to a chest mount
Hey Stephen, that accent sounds very close to me in NI. Great video again. Ive got myself a Mini 3 after seeing your review from months back. With the awful weather here in NI 😅, what are your main apps to keep an eye on weather, wind and any other suggestions? I'm also a Stephen from NI 😂
Hi Stephen from NI! 😁 Mini 3 such a great bit of kit, one of my most used drones now. I look at apple weather, met office and then www.mountain-forecast.com for summit specific weather and then kind of take an average. I check the weather every day for a week before a planned trip and then every few hours the 24hrs before.
@@StephenJReid thanks for the info, this is great. I'm completely new to photography, I'm going to start a few courses over the next few weeks but as a hobby, I absolutely love reading about drone technology and flying in my spare time. It's great to see people here doing well and good luck for the future and well done so far. I'll drop you a follow and keep an eye on the vids. Take care
Ha! when I mentioned on a comment last week or so about your review about this camera... I obviously didnt know you had just filmed with it!! So the invisible selfie stick is a no go for trail runners then? (The option for skiers with the snow )
haha yeah. So honestly I forgot to do the invisible stick with any of the shots in this. It requires processing afterwards which is slow and the max export is 1080p. It uses AI to remove the stick. There's an example in the full video on my tech channel. ua-cam.com/video/oBcoFOF5_4c/v-deo.html Actually works better than expected on a grassy background but not totally invisible. kInda like predator
@@StephenJReid Ah yes just watched your 20 reasons video. To date, I have shot all my footage on my running channel using the insta x2 and used the DJI mic with it for better audio.. but the additional processing I need to do for EVERY shot, I think this will be the upgrade camera I have been hoping for! thanks for an excellent review. If and when I go ahead, I will use your affiliate link
Sharp edge is Dangerous, I done it about 7 years ago on a solo run the same as you, the bad step is very bad, I remember a big gust of wind hitting me when I was clinging to the top of the shap exposed part, I shat myself 😂
Yeah it's responsible for a lot of mountain rescue call outs. I was really careful making sure the forecast wasn't super windy. Think gusts were forecast to only hit around 25mph. But always get rogue ones. Was crawling along parts that you could run on a calm day.
Yeah some shots it looks worse than it was and some shots really don't show it at all. Would have been better with a few drone shots but I was committed to just using the one camera
I actually believe I've just broken the "Holding your breath" world record, the full 14mins 12 secs of this video phewww! That narrow part, I was scared for you buddy! They say there's a fine line between bravery and madness, this video proves that point lol. Great stuff, loved it. As for DJI? I was about to pull the plug on the Osmo Action 3 but I inherited a Samsun S20+ from a family member and well the camera on that is quite superb. Now I'm glad since version 4 is about to be released. Always thought hardware companies should follow the software bizz in that if one has recently purchased the item and they bring out a new version, should be able to purchase it at a discounted price. Seems fair, yes/no?
Haha hope you are breathing better now! GoPro actually used to have a trade in program. To be honest I think the profit margins on Action cameras are quite low, GoPro has been struggling for a few years. Cheap upgrades might kill them off
Just tucked the handle and camera down the front of my race vest behind the straps. I meant to bring a mouth mount but forgot. Worked ok, but was worried it might fall out!
@@StephenJReid Not now, maybe 30-40 years ago. I have done the Snowdon horseshoe, and Scafell Pike. Most scary was striding something and Swiral edge I think.
