    In my experience, be extremely careful with the minipresso when it comes to 'tamping'. A very light 'leveling' is about all you want to do. Any firm tamp will likely cause you to blow out the seals in the unit. If pumping puts up a firm resistance...by all means, DO NOT FORCE.

      I hard tamp my nanopresso and it comes out wonderfully with golden colored crema. The catch is that I have to have the grinds perfectly and the only way for me to do that without buying a grinder is the Lavazza pre-ground canned version. If it's too fine it'll get stuck

    • @gilles111
      @gilles111 4 роки тому

      @@terran236 The nanopresso can handle up to 18 bar, this minipresso only 8. The easily leaking hot water and people easily (and/or mean to) tamper hard is the reason why they made the nanopresso stand 18 bar ;-)

    I have both machines and like them both. I use the Minipresso more often because I prefer espresso, and find the shot stays hotter when I preheat the tank and grouphead with a little boiling water before making a shot. Thanks for doing this! How about comparing Handpresso with Minipresso? More similar machines!

    my recipe for making aeropress which i found to taste just like a shot from a machine is 14 grams of coffee fine esspresso grind and 28 grams of water just off a boil in the aeropress use it the non inverted way paper filter in the basket and one on top of the grinds both moistend water on top and press hard and fast and you should get a good crema

    I use both the AeroPress and the Minipresso. Today's coffee with AeroPress had crema and was delightful. In the new year I've not used the Minipresso because I have greater consistency with the AeroPress and I actually think closer to espresso. May havre to pull out the Minipresso to do a cup to cup comparison.

    Totally apples and oranges ... but, I'm currently travelling with my Aeropress and using the metal filter. That makes a huge difference to the body and flavour of the coffee especially when using freshly roasted and ground beans. Sure, it's still not espresso, but it has more of that happy making complexity, that gets closer to a morning shot made with fresh beans and a 15 Bar pressure machine. I think Joe referred to them as oils and flavonoids. I'll never bother with the paper filters again.

The one Gail is demonstrating with will not allocate a nespresso style coffee pod but only your own pre grounds their are two models one that allows for pods and one that allows for your own pre ground coffee neither will accommodate each other unfortunately.

    I had both and they both produced good results. The Minipresso doesn't need paper filters but can occasionally leak. I made the mistake of storing it without making sure it was completely dry, went to use it a week later and it was moldy. With that said, I will likely buy another one.
    The Aeropress has been my go to if I'm only making coffee for one. Really easy to use and produces a good cup of coffee. It really depends on what kind of drink you want.

    From what I've found out Minipresso employs some tech similar to pressurized basket/portafilter. Does crema look and shot taste proves or disproves it?
    BTW why haven't you compare Aeropress brewed espresso (that is much more comparable and not so hard to do - Google for it) to Minipresso espresso? It's a pity you cannot compare them to Handpresso as well since you utilize stuff you sell only.

    that was a shockingly poor demonstration of the minipresso. It looked like it was packed far too firmly, making it clearly too hard to pump. Usually you preheat the chamber to get close to the right temperature at pass through, pump then pause for 5-10secs once teh first drips appear so the coffee can bloom, before pumping through. When done properly it makes a surprisingly full bodied coffee. I own this and a full esspresso machine, and to be honest often feel I get a better coffee from the minipresso, largely due to the 'feel' you have when pumping. It gives such good control, though it does usually take me 3-4 cups in a new batch of coffee to get the grind and the tamp right. P.s just to say I also own the Aeropress, which I still use for it's shear simplicity and speed, though again some quick research on the web shows ways to make a much much better coffee using one than was shown here. (using the metal ultra fine filter for a start)

    Hello i just bought the wilfa WSCG-2 and a aeropress and wonder how coarse/fine should i grind the beans for my aeropress?
    I would like maximum sweetness and fruityness and less of the roast dark tastes.
    Any tips to achieve this result? Less or longer time before i press?
    Coarser or finer grind?
    Hoter or colder water?
    I want the maximum taste of the fruity sweet delicous coffe that i get when visiting places with good baristas.

    In the manual they write that you must not tamp it, and on amazon they write that tamping it will create too much pressure that will break the device. you seem to be tamping it. now I don't own the device yet - does tamping produce better espresso with it despite the danger?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear

      The manual suggests not to tamp hard (as you would with a normal espresso machine). But a light press to level the grounds is key to an even extraction.

    The reason she had such a hard time pressing the aeropress is because she left an airspace above the grounds and water. Fill right to top.

    • @bobkoure
      @bobkoure 5 років тому

      The Aeropress inventor was pretty clear that he intended the plunger to push air, the pushed (compressed) air to push the coffee through the grounds and coffee.
      I used to fill right to the top. Worked OK, but I went through a plunger seal every 200 presses or so - and if one was failing, I got covered with coffee (so much for *that* work shirt).
      I'm back to leaving an air gap. Don't notice any difference in pressure required. I use a short brew / fine ground, so it's pretty stiff either way.

  • @atmhosinorb

    This is not how you make coffee with an aeropress. Incredible that this"expert" is so wrong. Aeropress is designed to make espresso shots ... so you fill it with just enough water for the shots you want. The side of the tube has clear markings and it's explained in the instructions. If she'd done it properly she could have compared two espresso shots.
