Kobold Lore idea: The longer they spend in proximity to a dragon, the more they take on their patron's colours. Thus, Kobolds that spend most of their time shutting messages/insults between a red and a white dragon might end up pink!
I'd never really considered the idea of Kobold's living in an enormous underground citadel (outside of collaboration with other races - I've always imagined them getting on shockingly well with dwarves) - I'd always imagined them as the small scrappy underdog. So thank you. Perhaps my players will have an encounter with a vast Kobold city sometime soon.
Well in parts of dnd lore it is mentioned they used to have an empire. At least before there god and emperor got sealed away by the gnome god. So I can see them making city's.
Remember, the older a Kobold Den is, the more dangerous, because they'll just keep stacking traps in it, after all there tends to be a reason the den has lasted as long as it has.
I had an idea for a Kobold campain concept- the Kobold empire. Kobolds consider it a point of pride if thier population expands to the point that their lair can't support them, when that happens they divide their population in half and half leave to start up a new mine/lair somewhere else. My idea was if you had one or more Kobold leaders that make plans to maintain contact with the split off members, and build on that- so instead of a productive lair spinning off more Kobold tribes to succeed or fail, you would have an extended network of Kobold tribes. Kobolds are very communal, valuing their contributions to the group as a whole over personal benefits and are VERY good at working together- leveraging that by keeping various lairs connected and working together and you have the beginnings of a Kobold Empire. I imagined it working via scouting out potential sites for other settlements ahead of time and building tunnels and paths their ahead of any split, and then maintaining that path, so they would naturally continue to work together, and then the expansion would proceed naturally. It would work as a campain idea with the perenially overlooked and underestimated Kobolds becoming a threat under everyone's noses. Starting with normally easily dealt with Kobolds (low level adventure encounters) becoming more difficult to handle or more numerous, various encounters with Kobolds showing them being more prepared and with better or more equipment then you would expect. Eventually adventurers would investigate a lair, see how more built up and city like it is then they are used to, and then find a connection to other lairs- either they actually stumble upon one of the paths/tunnels, or they see kobolds coming from or going to another lair and overhear something to that effect. With a greater population working together, the kobolds were able to better specialize and improve production and quality of many things, from their personal equipment, to their training. Basically the One(s) behind the initial idea continued to push improvements that propogated to the connecting lairs So suddenly whatever nation or nations the Players are living in have a whole new nation forming beneath them, one that can expand rediculously quickly.
@@timothycarney9652 That was a thing in lore once. I had an idea where the kobolds of a region had become more aggressive and the players had to find out why, it would turn out the kobolds had found where their god was imprisoned and were attempting to free him, if successful there could be a seen where the players come across the kobolds near the entrance of the maze he's sealed in, and out it walks, except it's description is it looks like a 6 foot tall kobold with a wyvern like stinging tail. If they try to fight it, in lore he is level 20 in 5 classes, one of which is fighter, and now that he's free he's going to get his vengeance on the gnome god for sealing him in there.
Some more interesting information about kobolds. 1) They are considered one of the weakest opponents, BUT if you want to storm their underground hives and if your master is not an idiot, then he will definitely make this "dungeon" difficult. If you go there in the first 12 levels... YOU WILL DIE! If they want to, they can literally force you to walk for kilometers through tunnels lined with traps and obstacles. And they themselves are not in danger of any of this. Why? Because especially for you, they will dig a tunnel for normal growth, and they themselves will move through small tunnels into which 70% of races will not be able to pass. 2) The kobolds... its own morality. If they need it, they can eat the corpses of other humanoids and they don't see anything wrong with it. As it was shown in the video, they do not experience social discomfort, accustomed to being in society, but I will also mention that most kobolds consider sexual arts as a way to procreate and nothing else. They usually do not enjoy the process, and those who do are considered strange cranks and freaks. The same applies to their relationships with other races (yes, the bard is a womanizer who wants to drag every creature in this world into bed, including the dungeon master, I'm looking at you). They do not hesitate to walk around obazhennye, and they have nothing to hide because females do not have breasts, and the intimate organ of males is hidden in the interior of the body and is not usually visible. They are also reptiles, which implies that they have a cloaca in the place of our usual sexual system, although this is how your master decides. They may turn out to be evil cave lizards who adore serving evil dragons or other evil creatures who keep them either as slaves or as bushmeat. And in some ways those who think so will be right. Kobolds are drawn to strong creatures (yes yes little Timmy. Like minions . Go play roblox here adult uncles discuss games without a computer). But it is worth understanding that kobolds love their community very much and treat those who help them well. Yes, they are insidious, petty and greedy, but it depends on many reasons. They are also not afraid to die for the common good. (So if you decide to rob their underground city, beware of small, nimble, fast suicide bombers hung with bags of gunpowder that sneak up on you from all sides) . They can also be very loyal allies if you prove to them that they need you and do not pose a threat to them. 4) Kobolds are monstrously inventive people. Yes, their inventions are not as reliable and bulky as those of dwarves and not as elegant and subtle in their work as those of dwarves, and they look like hastily assembled crafts from garbage, but they can be very complex and effective. They love to design different traps and mechanisms in order to destroy uninvited guests who have entered their house. Often they like to make crazy types of weapons, like a cannon that shoots kobolds, for asada cities or huge mechanical monsters that dig the ground hundreds of kilometers to the bottom. 5) They can eat almost anything. Almost any meat, vegetable and fruit. They can eat moss, wood, skin, bones, rotting remains, their own and other people's remains, stones, and very, very rarely, when conditions become unbearable, they can start eating their own eggs and young. But only if it is necessary for survival and is done EXTREMELY RARELY! And in general, kobolds can literally never leave their mines to eat what they find under their feet. 6) Not all kobolds are the same, there are also those who are born with wings on their backs, just like the dragons they adore. The attitude towards such deviant individuals varies. Somewhere it is considered a gift of the gods, somewhere it can be considered an ugliness or even a punishment (sometimes they make wooden wings to the obeyed kobalds, which they are forced to wear as punishment). They are also no stranger to magic and they can get into it well, because they have a drop of dragon blood in them and kinship with them gives them a good adavtivity to it. Also, some kobolds can, like dragonborn or ordinary dragons, breathe fire, acid, electricity, and so on. 7) Kobolds are one of the strongest races. Why? And everything is simple. Their passive racial ability is "pack tactics". If there is ANY allied creature next to the kobold, then he throws his dice rolls with an advantage. And they also have the ability to "Fall to the ground and belittle and cry." You're probably laughing. "What can do this to me?" you think. But this ability will force all enemy creatures to attack only this kobold and they will do it with a hindrance. What do we have? Hordes of small, fast and dexterous assholes, each of whom attacks with an advantage and can lure away all enemy damage. Yes, it will most likely cost the kobold his life because they are very frail and weak, in theory you can kill a kobold just by throwing a small stone at him, from throwing a torch there will be exactly as much damage as needed. But what difference does it make how easy it is to kill one kobold? If you don't have an area attack, then at least you are a level 20 magician, 40 kobolds will simply destroy you, because they will all attack you with an advantage (and they just like ranged combat) and in one turn you will kill 2-5 kobolds and this is at best. Do you think I'm talking nonsense? Think again, because kobolds are responsible for 40-50% of the deaths of novice adventurers and not only. There are a lot of stories about how already highly pumped players were literally destroyed by kobolds. And a little bit of my opinion about kobolds in general. I passionately love these little , scaly toadstools . They are moderately crazy and moderately inventive and it's fun to play for them always and always you will have a special attitude in your group. And if the kobolds realized what power they have and decided to unite against everyone and start developing new technologies, then no one would be able to resist them, except for the gods. Just imagine: Billions of kobolds, in light armor and guns, who drive around in cars and tanks, fly on conspicuous planes and make tunnels under the most impregnable fortresses. And this army does not need only food, because they eat EVERYTHING they can put in their mouths. And they are also very cute and brave.
@@monstermanualanimatedseries In fact, you are right. I didn't play DnD that much, and 4 out of 3 games I was a master. And the fourth game never started, because no one came except me and the master. I was never able to play as a player....
Kobolds are some of my favorite fantacy races. I've written so much lore about them in my spare time, and I designed for my players a quite enjoyable mission. A raid on a kobold lair accused of kidnapping a local official. What they were expecting was massive hoards of kobolds, and maybe some traps. What they got was an organized labarinth of trenches, bunkers, archer holes, and non linear routes, all designed to take advantage of the kobold's tiny size. The lair was a death trap, which was just what my party needed to remember not to underestimate any opponent.
@@monstermanualanimatedseries I actually had something along those lines in my kobold lairs. i've wanted to make a Kobold story about their race being enslaved and all of that until some Kobolds start to reveal themselves and make a revolution (sorta like Detroit Become Human style but in the fantastic medieval era), so this funny video explaining about Kobolds gives me some ideas and lore :3
Kobolds are able to change their gender within a few months, meaning it only takes two kobolds to make more. They also mature at the age of 6, which only goes to show their intelligence, compared to other races… sadly, due to them still acting like 6 year olds, very active at placing traps and how frequently they mine, they tend to only live till they are 8, even though they can live for 130 years.
@@namethefifth7315 their average elder is 20 years old despite the fact that a well taken care of kobold can live to 120. infact kobolds away from warens or kept as pets have been known to live longer then that do to healing potions and spells.
@@warbrand2 no just kobolds general. Since by age 6 they are considered adults not dead. Acourding to volos guide to monsters "most sucumb to violence, accidents, or disease by age 20, but a kobold can live for up to 120 years..."
Great video, I love Kobolds. One of my favorite characters I've created is a Kobold who calls himself Ravani, who's main purpose is to show the world that Kobolds can be heroes and aren't all cowardly weaklings, as well as being a self-professed Kobold's Rights Activist. Thus, he uses his Artificer skills as a monster hunter for hire. He originally popped in my head by way of me wondering "What if Rocket Raccoon, but Kobold?" but he's developed a lot since then. I only played him a little but he now stars alongside my Tabaxi barbarian Nails in a comic I've been making for the last few years.
I love sharing this adorable and funny animation to my friends that are curious about kobolds, but don't have time to watch an hour long video explanation about them. I absolutely adored your 2-minute quick explanation and showcase of the basic traits of the kobolds and their habitats. Furthermore, I especially like the fun and adorable roller coaster, slapping a little kobold head on it just made my day, in my head when I saw that, I couldn't help but think “please remain seated and keep your arms and legs in at all times” from Emperor's New Groove. I am in love with kobolds, and it was videos like “What They Don't Tell You About Kobolds - D&D” by *MrRhexx* that convinced me in the end to pursue this very ambitious project to create a mod to turn the dwarves into kobolds in this cooperative sci-fi mining game called *Deep Rock Galactic*. I've been working on that project for over roughly 2 years now, and it's nearing completion. As of the time of me writing this, I have currently done 3,998/4,426 voice lines in the game. If you're interested in hearing my voice performance of these little lovable and chaotic gremlins for that game, I have a preview video featured on my channel, I hope you enjoy listening to them. Once again, thank you for this brief and adorable and fun visual explanation of these lovable little mischievous lizards! ❤ ^.=.^
Oh, a thousand thanks to you for the compliments and for being an admirer of the Emperor's New Groove. we are very curious about your game, we will follow you
Idk why I find them so endearing. I've always imagined that I somehow became their leader and with my ruling/teaching, I manage to turn their civilization significantly more advanced and civilized at the cause of me nearly getting aneurysm everyday due to their personalities lol.
Kobolds' popularity is kinda weird in that their popularity seems to have started because they feel like underdogs and D&D bad guy equivalent of pugs, but people seem to consistently make them seem less pitiful seeming. I also don't get why some people seem very horny for them considering lizardfolk and dragonborn don't seem to be as popular, so its clearly not just them being reptilian humanoids. Its kinda funny how D&D version is so popular that small reptile people that aren't directly called kobolds appear in some settings. Even though kobold's mythological version is just more or less alternate spelling for goblin
Goblins are no different. I guess it is similar how we nowadays see rats, wolves and other animals as cute instead of a threat especially if you are bigger than them. Also, for many people, dragonborn are kind of boring (although this is coming from someone like me who thinks elves and half elves are boring). They are just humans with some magical scales and a small dragons head on top of them which lets them use a breath attack. Otherwise they are lacking the other features that makes dragon well dragons, unless you go Way of the Ascendant Dragon monk. I prefer the look of draconians from the DnD Dragonlance setting, although I wouldn't bang them.
@@RawCauliflower I am in the same camp for the most part. Elves and the more humanoid looking races are judt not very pleasing to play in amy fantasy setting cause to me they look so boring. It's a bit reason why many people I know will happily play dragonborn with tails and breasts when appropriate as that gives them more physical traits to set them apart. Kobolds are just cute little silly nibblers who can be just your party's little pocket thief or a nasty thron in an apponent's neck if you let them be. They are very different from normal races cause they don't adhere to normal society standards they are just so smol and cute in general, which makes me love them to bits even when they are st their worst. Just wish more people integrated them as normal characters rather than just enemies to have on the field.
Kobolds used to have awful stats in 3.5/PF1e, but I would play them to challenge myself. They kinda grew on me as I read the lore. If you look around the source material, they get some good stuff in feats and alternative class abilities.
@@monstermanualanimatedseries Wha. This sounds like a threat XD What do you mean good luck. What is going to happen. When am I going to die. How old is justin beaber.
So love the style, personally a kobold barbarian player myself! Though the best part about it is that you actually designed a cute dwarf character! Atleast I think she's a dwarf, if not all good but overall so many dont respect the short lady races!
It depends on whether the kobolds expect a necromancer and if the traps have automatic disposal abilities, like a magma moat or sewage slide. Usually the zombies just clog the traps.
Neverwinter Nights 1 did a very good job of showing kobolds are more misunderstood then just black or white. They can attack the player but only if not good at communication. Most people aren't good at communication. The "nice" people trying to claim a moral high ground less so. At least the kobolds in this vid are more honest about it. If they want revenge then YOU did something.
I hate how they're always portrayed as evil. If you could motivate a clan of kobolds to do something good, they would succeed, regardless of what tried to stop them. It's only a matter of time.
I find it interesting how anime and manga tends to get kobolds wrong so often. Either they protray them as werewolves or gnolls. And human sized as well
This is incredibly adorable and also helpful for those who are new to DnD tbh. I wanna ask you if it's okay for you to let me translate your video into Chinese and transfer it to a Chinese video platform called Bilibili with your UA-cam channel linked below the description of the video? pls let me know, I did all this only for the purpose of learning English and help people in China watch these amazing videos which they normally don't have access to.
they're like goblins from goblinslayer anime, minus the part they abduct females to use as "breeding tool", since they have both genders. they're quite crafty and hold onto grudges - making them least forgiving

I would like ask, what's the differences between Goblins & Kobolds, culturally & psychologically. What tactics could a party use against one that wouldn't work on the other. They seem to occupy the same spaces, probably could get some good stories with them clashing.
Kobolds usually have dens near those of dragons, since they serve them. Goblins have a more solid hierarchical structure, while Kobolds are more of a "cheerful little family"

I love kobolds! Rn I'm playing a little Kobold Beastmaster Ranger named Haviin who lost her entire tribe, and who now puts all her love into her panther partner, Penumbra
Keep it up! You'll get big in due time~
Thanks for your support.
That ending is so... i dont even have words
... full of love?
This just got randomly recommended to me and my god the quality here, then when I checked and saw that you done a whole seiries of these I was over the moon. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your support
i've wanted to make a Kobold story about their race being enslaved and all of that until some Kobolds start to reveal themselves and make a revolution (sorta like Detroit Become Human style but in the fantastic medieval era), so this funny video explaining about Kobolds gives me some ideas and lore :3
"go go power kobold"
we are happy about it, let us know
...Great, now I just imagined an Artificer Kobold that resembles Adam Jensen.
I love playing as a kobold..random chaos is expected
Kobolds are able to change their gender within a few months, meaning it only takes two kobolds to make more. They also mature at the age of 6, which only goes to show their intelligence, compared to other races… sadly, due to them still acting like 6 year olds, very active at placing traps and how frequently they mine, they tend to only live till they are 8, even though they can live for 130 years.
But they enjoy those eight years
I'm preaty shure the age on that was 20 last i cheked. Only 10 years younger then an aarakockra
Acourding to volos guide to monsters "most sucumb to violence, accidents, or disease by age 20, but a kobold can live for up to 120 years..."
strange i thought kobolds only live 11 days
Kobolds are the BEST race!
Yooo this channel need love
Oh, a thousand thanks to you for the compliments and for being an admirer of the Emperor's New Groove.
we are very curious about your game, we will follow you
I still love this animation. It is adorable and informative. Well done.
This deserves a ton more views xD It's amazing!
thank you very much. if you want to recommend our channel to your friends.
Lore accurate, factual information, 10/10
Idk why I find them so endearing. I've always imagined that I somehow became their leader and with my ruling/teaching, I manage to turn their civilization significantly more advanced and civilized at the cause of me nearly getting aneurysm everyday due to their personalities lol.
arduous mission, you have our support
a lot of rolls were made in the making of this video
that command and conquer death scream lol when infantry are burning from flame tank shooting fire at them
Kobolds' popularity is kinda weird in that their popularity seems to have started because they feel like underdogs and D&D bad guy equivalent of pugs, but people seem to consistently make them seem less pitiful seeming.
I prefer the look of draconians from the DnD Dragonlance setting, although I wouldn't bang them.
we are all a bit 'losers like them, maybe that's why we cheer
and our goblin is not doing very well in general
I just found your channel today, you got some top quality stuff, I look forward to seeing what comes next.
thank you very much, keep following us
You kinda missed the whole "Worlds and Unveiled Secrets" part. This is kinda just Kobolds in a nutshell with some cool animations.
wow, how am I just finding this now . this is great
keep following us
This happened to pop up in my recommended feed and I'm amazed by the style and info here. I've subbed.
Regarding kobolds, I think they're kinda cute.
Thank you very much for your support. keep following us
Sharing this with my friends!
I fucking love those little grudge filled guys
resentment and ... "love"
They also have a vile hatred for gnomes (also love the choice of screams used for the elf)
we thank you, ranger a little less so
Anyone else all about Koh-bolhds too!?
Those have to be discarded eggshells, because those eggs ain't cracking just from a tumble with their hard shells.
Yo!! how the heck does this channel not have more views?!
youtube intrigue. if you want to recommend us to your friends.
Already done ^^ The quality is astounding so i will wish the team all the best.@@monstermanualanimatedseries
WHAT A LOVELY ANIMATION!
The fun animation with the mix of information. Love it. I need to see more on this channel. 😊
thanks, you just have to subscribe to the channel :)
Kobolds are adorable and I love them!
I remember my first time playing a Kobald. I ate a playing card because I misunderstood the game “Go fish.”
In 2 campaigns my group has met kobolds working for a dragon, in 2 campaigns my group has started a kobold rebellion against a dragon.
consistency XD
Can't wait till my favorite race to play! (The ONLY race I play...)
Dragonborn!
good luck
@@monstermanualanimatedseries Wha. This sounds like a threat XD
What do you mean good luck. What is going to happen. When am I going to die. How old is justin beaber.
Instant sub!
thank you very much
That's a really cute animation.
Thanks
Kobolds are simply too cute
Kobolds living up to their "fun" size.
So love the style, personally a kobold barbarian player myself! Though the best part about it is that you actually designed a cute dwarf character! Atleast I think she's a dwarf, if not all good but overall so many dont respect the short lady races!
thank you, cleric is very happy with it
@@monstermanualanimatedseries You honor me with your reply, Oh Animator One VuV
Cool channel!
The most important takeaway: kobolds be f@ckin'.
Plus. You did a wonderful job explaining these little dragonic creatures. So i subscribed to your channel.
thank you, welcome
kobolds need infinite love
I thought Kobolds had no problem mating with other races. (I know it’s up to the individual player ESPECIALLY bards but still)
maybe it's the others who are having trouble mating with them. who knows
Adorable ❤
adorable little scamps !
I just love your animation
Yes, we did! =D
Nice animation. But what about one of the most important aspects of kobold condition? What about their relationship with dragons?
there would be so much to say, but our heroes could not last more than two minutes
0:03 "Scales, -Cold Eyes- derpy eyes, a cute face, SMOL!
I’m actually in a campaign playing as a kobold
Kobolds are the best, they deserve more love
Also, show us the club
Heh, I wonder what would happen when a level 20 necromancer decides to pay a visit to the kobold lair
It depends on whether the kobolds expect a necromancer and if the traps have automatic disposal abilities, like a magma moat or sewage slide.
Usually the zombies just clog the traps.
I generally love the over use of that death rattle reminds me of unreal gold and doom 1
1:29 ,
''hear me out''
"no"
Neverwinter Nights 1 did a very good job of showing kobolds are more misunderstood then just black or white. They can attack the player but only if not good at communication.
Most people aren't good at communication. The "nice" people trying to claim a moral high ground less so. At least the kobolds in this vid are more honest about it. If they want revenge then YOU did something.
And the party members keep adopting them like cats.
They don't have crazy cat people in D&D, they have crazy kobold people.
And also crazy about kobolds /cats?
I hate how they're always portrayed as evil. If you could motivate a clan of kobolds to do something good, they would succeed, regardless of what tried to stop them. It's only a matter of time.
And then they could relax at the spa
You no take candle!
I know the channel is small now but just you wait itll go up and up from here
we hope so. thanks for your support
@@monstermanualanimatedseries hi quality animation, voice acting, and jokes? You got it
Kobolds are awesome little guys 😊and are German. 🍻
I find it interesting how anime and manga tends to get kobolds wrong so often. Either they protray them as werewolves or gnolls. And human sized as well
and instead they are small and "adorable"
+1 Subscribed!
thanks for your support
Off topic, but the red one totally made me think of Guilmon.
ah ah it is true
This is incredibly adorable and also helpful for those who are new to DnD tbh. I wanna ask you if it's okay for you to let me translate your video into Chinese and transfer it to a Chinese video platform called Bilibili with your UA-cam channel linked below the description of the video? pls let me know, I did all this only for the purpose of learning English and help people in China watch these amazing videos which they normally don't have access to.
this just make me a kobold hearm now. i blame you
The ending sounds just make me think of futurama’s death by snu snu
I love the animation and everything about it, but I cant get over the pronounciation of kobold as ko-*b*old lol
we humbly ask for forgiveness
Kobolds ^w^
If a group of kobold bards forms a band, would they be Imagine Humans?
you won
I should design a tall unique reptilian dragonlike person creature similar to the Kobold.
Yup. Subscribing.
welcome
Giggity 😆
My Kobolds approve😂
Kobolds also don’t have a gag reflex.
on the other hand they know how to make it come to others
You end up in a lair of Kobolds and during breeding season 😅 poor female ♀ to lay eggs like a turtle 🐢
It's having a mini horde.
I don’t think the females mind, actually…
they're like goblins from goblinslayer anime, minus the part they abduct females to use as "breeding tool", since they have both genders. they're quite crafty and hold onto grudges - making them least forgiving
indulgence is not their best dowry
i'm playing a kobold bard rn named puru :)
WHOOOOOO KOBOLDS YEAH BABY
You also draw cute bolds
Let’s just hope the kobolds can keep their libido in check
they all hope so
@@monstermanualanimatedseries heroes, roll a con save please. Next thing you know they roll a 1, and they get absolutely… uhh… you know what? I don’t wanna get demonetized, so we’ll just say they uhh… “had some fun” with the kobolds
@@monstermanualanimatedseries thank u
some artist capable of making kobolds look cute to as you british would say handsome
but kobolds has to engineer with primitive technology
just imagine what they could do with proper high end technology or even alien technology beyond imagination
