Was Yngwie influential when he emerged in the 80's mainly to metalheads in to technical playing? Yes but so what that influence and impact is nothing compared to that of Hendrix, EVH, etc. Yngwie's music and compositions SUCK there is no getting around that even his better stuff is garbage compared to Led Zeppelin, Queen, Deep Purple, etc compositions. Great songs universally acclaimed as classics up there with Smoke On The Water, Stairway To Heaven, etc by Yngwie? NONE! Great riffs up there with Whole Lotta Love, Smoke On The Water, Layla, etc by Yngwie? NONE! The rock/metal market is huge all types (speed, thrash, aor, etc) yet very few now have an interest in what Yngwie does which says it all really.

My favorite guitar players are YJM, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Vai, Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian May and Jimi Hendrix. Yngwie is fantastic, long live to the Maestro! I liked the Blue Lighting album, cool versions. My favorite cover by Yngwie is Keep Yourself Alive (Queen cover). I like Speed King and Lazy (D. Purple), Light Up the Sky (EVH), MR. Crowley (OZZY), Beat it (Michael) and some other covers (variations , new versions) by Malmsteen like Spanish Castle Magic (Jimi).
