So in short, Leicester, Leeds and Southampton's squad are 10 to 20x more expensive than Ipswich, each club gets gifted 41, 34 and more then 16 million quid than Ipswich and are allowed to lose 35 million more per year in the Prems, so hundreds of millions more than Ipswich. And they're called financial FAIR PLAY rules. If it was genuinely fair play, Ipswich would be walking the Championship.
Nothing is fair in football anymore, its no coincidence that the so called top 7 in the Premier league happen to have the most money.
Ipswich are a truely amazing club !
Definetly. As the season is progressing though it's looking more likely that the 3 relegated prem teams will pull away. I hope not.
Keep Parachute payments but only allow it to be used towards wages not signing new players.
great idea, limit to operational costs (maintenance) and not new spend (stadium, players etc).
Then they will have all of their own money to spend and use those payments for wages only
As an Ipswich fan as annoying as the advantage the relegated sides have we have to remember that parachute payments were bought in to avoid what happened to Ipswich (and others) last time they were relegated from the PL , it isn’t always possible to get those high earners off the wage bill. Perhaps the only fair way would be to link player contracts to TV revenue but I can’t see the player unions or clubs agreeing to this.
What these guys completely ignore is the fact that the umbrella payments and the FFP rules are turning the Prem into a 'Closed Shop' which is exactly what the top clubs want. Any Champs club, without the benefit of umbrella payments, who do well enough to win promotion are faced with the difference in quality of Prem sides who can spend way more money. The promoted club, to improve the quality of their squad, would need to spend huge amounts on new players...but the FFP rules don't allow it! Case in point is Notts Forest, who did spend to attempt to survive in the Prem, and who are about to be punished for doing it...
You're spot on about a prem closed shop. (See my comment 04/02/24).
The Ferrari analogy doesn't work though, unless your job requires you to have to drive a ferrari and getting fired means you are on the hook to keep paying. Your job should have to help you pay or else you would go bankrupt.
The analogy does work sell the Ferrari buy cheaper to run car. Same as selling players and getting in ones with cheaper wages. What part of it don't you get?
Ipswich have just been promoted and throwing money at it though, not sure where the argument lies.. club in L1 last season outspending most of the league but can’t outspend clubs who were in the PL last season..?
Because they generate more revenue than other L1 clubs through high ticket sales(25 000 season tickets) 50 000 shirt sales at £50 each and other revenue all in all probably 15-20mill all in FFP rules!
They cannot compete with PL clubs who generate 200mill per season!! And like the bloke just said the parachute payments are £44mill 1st season
£36mill 2nd season
£16mill 3rd season
So what that means is that these clubs can buy the best players outside of the prem leauge
@@ragtopdee7408 that’s nonsense, FFP rules aren’t the same in L1 and L2 - their owner just injected a load of capital and made a huge loss to get them promoted
@ryyyzor no it ain't nonsense it's fact the loss your referring to is 25million which is all off field and not part of the ffp rules(or outside prem version) it was purchasing of land off the previous owners, brand new pitch and undersold heating(which costs millions) new scoreboard loads of upgrades and maintenance! £25mill loss to be precise which they anticipates! All these off field costs have no consequence and separate to signing players!
There is no argument! What are you on about? Itfc are run sustainably and have a great set up
On average a championship team gets £15mill prem clubs that come down £50 million
Go and listen to a podcast called 'the price of football' the one with mark Ashton and all your questions, queries will be answered! Also I will add itfc have just had another 3 pitches constructed at there training ground and units purchased behind one of there stands!
Like I say all your questions will be answered if you bother to listen to the podcast 'the price of football' the days of buying your way out of leauges by wealthy owners are gone because of the new rules
@@ragtopdee7408 Ipswich spending £30k a week loaning PL footballers is sustainable lmao okay pal. You’re throwing everything at it this season because spending way more than you’re allowed on wages, interesting to see what happens next season if you’re still in the championship.
Parachute payments should be scrapped and mandatory wage cuts must be the only way forwards for all leagues and this has the knock on effect of players trying for a change!
No chance. Look at the US player system, they can't change clubs appropriately in NFL/Basketball. The real answer is scrap sky tnt rights and let fans buy rights like it's Netflix paying 10 15 20 quid a month. All the games. Then attendance will fall and probably ticket prices will drop a bit. Which id better for match going fans. And scrap 12.30 kick offs. Doesn't matter how much championship players are being paid. Sky/TNT are the unneeded parasites middle man not the players. When 99.9% are released from academics with what a btec level 2 in sport or something. Not a trade or a levels
How can you compare the revenue capabilities between Leeds/Leicester and Preston. Leeds/Leicester would make more money than preston even if they were in the national league
using your Ferrari analogy, the issue is that a Ferrari can't demand that you don't sell it and see out the entire contract. That is the key difference.
Remember Ipswich never got Parachute Payments, when they got relegated from the Premier League.
It was the year of the On Digital collapse.
How unlucky is that?
Maybe they'd never have been in the doldrums for so long, if they had the same privilege.
Ditto. It also happened to Leeds.
Amortisation is other problem, which I'm surprised Kieran didn't mention. If a club sign a player for £10m who turns out to be rubbish and worth nothing to anyone on £2m a season wages and amortise the transfer fee over 5 years they take a hit to their profits of £2m a season plus £2m wages, If they get relegated and sell that player for peanuts after 1 season they have to take a £8m hit to their profits in that year which can impact FFP, so from a FFP point of view they are £4m better off in season 2 if they keep that player and pay the £2m a year wages.. It's worse if they just release him because they probably have to pay up his remaining 4 contract at £8m and write off the remaining £8m so they take a £16m hit as opposed to just keeping him on the books and paying £2m wages and taking the £2m amortisatioin hit. This is just accounting profit, not the same as cash.
The price of football is a belter podcast 👍
True, but I'd rather it was hosted by Dai Yongge and a hungry lion (in a locked studio)
@@ForburyLion 😂😂😂😂
The way it's setup lessens the punishment of getting relegated from the Premier League, Otherwise you'd end up selling EVERYBODY. Of course Citys team is gonna be bags more valuable than Ipswich.. Its a Prem price tag team Ipswich were in League One 2 years ago.. talk about pointing out the obvious.
These boys know they are on camera, right?
We see your secret codes 😂
Luongo couldnt get a contract last year now hes killing it, crazy how much money can motivate people lol
Leicester won the premier league 7 years ago were in European football and ipswich were playing league 1 in that time , this is hardly news . As a Leeds fan who had to fight for 18 years without parachute payments the year we do get them it seems its all wrong and unfair . Leeds got promoted on a shoestring
Shoestring 😂😂
The huge financial gap betwee these 2 leagues needs to be narrowed. It's riduculous to have Bourenmouth, (crowds 10500), being about £70M per year better off, (certainly £50M), than Sunderland, (crowds of 41000). Prem needs its feeder league, the championship, to be able to afford to compete financially to a reasonable degree otherwise the teams will hardly ever change with the second tier.clubs already struggling to afford players wages.
up the town 🚜💙
❤basically it’s a reward for failure.
Maybe there is just too much money in the premier league then! To make it fairer they should have tighter rules! Or at least abide by them, personally I wouldn’t want to get promoted as the best you could hope for as an ipswich/Southampton is a top ten finish, there won’t be another Leicester winning the premier league.
Its absolutely stupid whats happening to this beautiful game
Like it was not like that when Utd was dominating
It's all the Americans fault.
@@GermanChickenwingeven when they are not dominating they are wasting money. They've spent more than any club in the last few years.
Luton done it the hard way
They did, a marvellous achievement. Leeds fan
Hypocrisy is killing football
Ipswich are still predominantly a league 1 side
40 mil to get relegated. Celtic get 50p for winning our league. If we had your money we would be a top 3 club in England after 10 years 💯🍀
Deluded, you get battered by other equally small and poor clubs in Europe every year. Junkies don't have a good handle on money so it'd be wasted...
Suddenly you want to be English, the first thing you would have to do is sack Brendan Rodgers or eles in three years you would be a second division club .If your that good why cant you get out of the group stage in Europe
@@kgatlw9134 You on the gear now ya jakeball😂
not with brendan rodgers you wouldnt be lmao. and what do you mean by "top 3 england club"?? loool
@@circle2867 That me be but I'm talking about the gulf in finances 👍
Thats terrible its more of ring fencing the bigger clubs
