That's wonderful that Elvis received 3 Grammys for his gospel songs , but it's a DAMN SHAME that he never got some Grammys for other songs he did. . Elvis should have at least a dozen or so Grammys , and he would IF the establishment back then wasn't so SNOOTY towards Elvis' other forms of music.

This is a very emotional song, always gets me choked up. It's so pure and simple that it's goes right to your soul, that's what Elvis does for you. There are much more songs like this, when your train goes further down the line, so you're wish came through Seph. I suppose you already listened to it a few times and maybe got on your knees and praised the Lord, with a tear or two.

I 've heard ALL of these Elvis songs multiple times throughout the years , and I never get tired of them...NEVER ! In addition to the king of rock and roll, Elvis has also been called , "The Prince From Another Planet" , and I sometimes I wonder if that was exactly what he was, because his abilities often seem otherworldly.

You are the best. Elvis won 3 Grammy in his career, all were for gospel music. And to this day Elvis is still the number one singing gospel artist in the world. He famously sang gospel all night after his shoes in Vegas. It was his therapy. He deeply believed what he sang and originally started out wanting to sing in a gospel quartet. He had a Bible on every night stand where ever he slept. That reflection was never put in the movie but he was a true believer. Please do "Milky White Way" when you can. Be Blessed

Yes. It is counterintuitive. His vocals became more sophisticated after the military. It may have been his natural evolution, or he may have been coached or found an inspiration he recognized as something that would improve his range and style. He even pronounced and enunciated words differently/better than in his rock-a-billy era. But he always had a special way of dealing with individual words that stood out in his songs.

If you're wondering what the #1 song was in the UK on June 17, 1965, you just heard it. It was recorded in 1960 (and, yes, that was the first year Elvis recorded in stereo) for the album "His Hand in Mine". But it was left off the album because Elvis thought he could do it better. It was eventually released as a single in 1965 as a space-filler between soundtrack albums. It took everyone by surprise as it quickly sold a million copies and rose rapidly to #3 on the pop charts. Fun fact: this was the most recorded song in the '50s.

Hi Seth. Great, great reaction! I think the reason the army “helped” Elvis’ voice was that it gave him time and space to focus on his craft without the constant pressure of the criticism that bombarded him every time he performed in the 50s. Also, Charlie Hodge, a trained gospel vocalist was a constant companion while Elvis was in Germany as well as becoming a lifelong friend. I think Charlie helped Elvis to hone his vocal skills. While the home recordings are hard to listen to (mainly due to poor recording equipment skills and technology), they do show how committed Elvis was to keep practicing, as well as enjoying himself, so as to be really well prepared for his return to his career post the army.

elvis was technically at his best in the early 60's. Crying the chapel was I think a 65 song but that time Elvis was struggling to get hits, think this one got to No2 maybe 1 in the UK charts. Its Now or Never and Are you Lonesome tonight were roughly recorded at the same time. They were classics but some of his gospel songs have incredible vocals and he sang with so much clarity and feeling.

Oh, wow, Seph, I think this is the first time I saw you get teary- eyed 😢
This song seems to move a lot of people.
After having listened to both the original recording and another popular version, I have to say that Elvis and The Jordanaires did an absolutely banger job on this one.
Some in the comments have mentioned that neither Elvis or the Jordanaires were happy with the recording they did.
Well, according to Gordon Stoker, one of the Jordanaires (who told the story for "Elvis Presley: A Life In Music" by Ernst Jorgensen), this is true.
He told the whole story behind Elvis's recording of "Crying In The Chapel".
Quote: "We had been singing since 6 or 7 o'clock in the evening during that session. At about 3 a.m., Elvis says ' Let's do "Crying In The Chapel"'. Of course, the recording was pretty much of a hit, so we had all heard it on the radio. The song was recorded by a guy over in east Tennesee, and it got a lot of play around Nashville. Elvis liked the record and had it with him in the studio."
Gordon Stoker revealed that he- and his fellow Jordanaires were dissatisfied with their work on the recording.
"We were tired," He explained, "but I'm thankful we don't sound tired on the recording. All of us knew we sang the wrong parts. Of course in those days you couldn't repair. Elvis said, 'It's good, forget it, don't make any difference.' But it always has with ME."
According to Jorgensen and his research, the recording log showed for early morning on October 31st of 1960- the date Elvis recorded the song- there was no satisfactory master completed and quote: "RCA was climbing the vaults for unreleased material."
So it boggles the mind how this 1965 released version could be judged so harshly by both Elvis and The Jordanaires back just some five years prior.
Gordon Stoker went on to explain, quote: "At the time, Valley Publishing held the rights to 'Crying In The Chapel'. As you know, Elvis couldn't record anything that the Colonel didn't own or make a deal on. So they contacted Valley Publishing and they couldn't make any kind of deal. So the Colonel said, 'Ok, just keep it in the can.' They would say anything to please the Colonel and RCA in those days.
Several years later, Hill and Range Publishing bough Valley Publishing, not knowing 'Crying In The Chapel' was in there, so they said. THEN the song was released. Many said to us, 'You sound different on that.' Just in that short of amount of time they had improved recordings."
So now the story behind "Crying In The Chapel" penned by Artie Glenn. The official date of composition is 1953, but according to his grandson, Cliff Glenn, Artie Glenn had actually penned the song in 1951 and then just stuffed it in a drawer.
Darrell Glenn, Artie's son, had was the first one to record it in 1953 while still in high school with his father's band, the Rhythym Riders.
This recording was actually meant to be a demo (recorded in professional studios in Fort Worth, Texas) for the purpose of Artie placing the song with a publisher. Quote: "After being turned down by several major publishers, including Hill and Range and Acuff- Rose, it was accepted by Valley Publishers, who agreed to release the same demo recording as their first Valley records release in 1953. The recording was too long to be released as a single, and a piano break was edited out, and the edited demo was then released as single."- from Wikipedia.
Here is the link to the original 1953 recording by Darrell Glenn and the Rhythm Riders: m.ua-cam.com/video/aAYHANetFy8/v-deo.html

You didn’t react to Elvis’s new hit post army song, Stuck on You, which he sang on the Frank Sinatra Show or his performance of Fame and Fortune. They show his cleaned up, post Army new image. Back in 1960, no rock and role performer could image singers like The Rolling Stones to be singing Rock at 40 yrs old, much less at 80 yrs old. During the 60s while Elvis was busy during movies, and releasing movie sound tracts, better songs were given to newer rockers. He made money off those movies, but he became increasing frustrated with the silly scripts. More than a few actors, thought Elvis had a natural talent, timing etc. needed to be a gr8 actor. Those he worked with him, said he was very professional, prepared and new all his lines.

Why don’t you just find the song on YT if you just want to hear the song. Reaction videos are about ‘in the moment’ responses. I love Seth enthusiastic responses to Elvis. It gives me renewed confidence that Elvis’ legacy will live on through a younger generation.

Then listen to your own record? Why watch a reactor who you KNOW is going to talk through it and pause it?

To listen what a reactor has to say about a song or video,
is kind of the point of watching a REACTION VIDEO!!!
