Out of all of the covers of Chapel, this was my grandfathers favorite. You might say his opinion counted more than anyone else's. My grandfather was Artie Glenn, the author of Crying in the Chapel.
Master vocalist Bob Carlisle fronted what in my mind was the most talented, versatile, & tightest rock band (not just Christian rock) ..... that was way ahead of the pack in its genre. I have a killer sound system in a "chapel" style log cabin on the side of a mountain in Tennessee...... & I just open the windows and doors, and let the valley below here THIS SONG !!! Bob....man, Bob brought a lead like no one else could..... such passion in a voice.....
You saw me crying in the chapel The tears I shed were tears of joy I know the meaning of contentment Now I am happy with the Lord Just a plain and simple chapel Where humble people go to pray I pray the Lord that I'll grow stronger As I live from day to day I've searched and I've searched But I couldn't find No way on earth To gain peace of mind Now I'm happy in the chapel Where people are of one accord We gather in the chapel Just to sing and praise the Lord Ev'ry sinner looks for something That will put his heart at ease There is only one true answer He must get down on his knees Meet your neighbor in the chapel Join with him in tears of joy You'll know the meaning of contentment Then you'll be happy with the Lord You'll search and you'll search But you'll never find No way on earth To gain peace of mind Take your troubles to the chapel Get down on your knees and pray Your burdens will be lighter And you'll surely find the way
WOW. What a band, what a cover and what a display of complete awesome and remarkable singing from maybe the best vocalists ever. I can still remember the Elvis version and boy did these guys do a total upgrade.
The first time I heard this version it totally amazed me at the sound! I hadn't been saved long, and I just couldn't believe what I was hearing! Then they came out with Heaven...Just WOW!!! Praise to the LORD ALMIGHTY!!!
My son remembers this song from his early teens. He asked me to please find that song about the chapel lol. I just sent him the text. We are two of the happiest people in the world. That song carried us through many tough days in Chicago.
love love love this song. it was my mommas favorite. Today, Sept 27, marks two years without her. When she passed away a part of me went with her. I miss her so very much. Listening to her favorite songs helps me feel peace inside my heart.
I know what you mean!! I have lost both of my parents within three years.Dad died in Dec. My wife and i moved down to take care of them,so we were here to say goodbye.Feel so lost sometimes without them. But God sustains us!!
every single time i go on youtube this is the first thing that pops up lmfao its been stuck like that for at least a year now!! lol so random but i like it :D
This album would have nearly perfect were it not for the overbearing digital drums on some tracks. Randy is way underappreciated and Bob is the only guy in the past 30 years that can wail like that.
Is violence the way to go? If Europe and the whole world had not abandoned the true God and faith in Jesus, we would not have had to face hatred and darkness. Get down on your knees and worship the almighty and stand against the hate! Blessings 🙏🙏
Here's a shout out to all the students who meet me in the gazebo on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for prayer. Also, to Dwight, Connie, Bill and all the faithful who meet everyday for prayer at The Sanctuary. Do you know who originally recorded this song?
the song was written by Artie Glen for his son Darrel to record, which he did in 1953. the song reached the top 10. Elvis waited until 1960 to record this song but his record company waited til 1965 to actually release it. hope this helps.
I love Elvis, but this is a smokin version. That key change...wow. I really think Elvis would've loved it too. (But he probably wouldn't have had a crush on Randy Thomas.) Did I just type that out loud? Oops.

I agree, but you should hear Cliff Glenn sing this! His grandfather wrote the song :)
Have loved this version for over 20 years. No one brought it like Bob Carlisle...man what a voice
You saw me crying in the chapel
The tears I shed were tears of joy
I know the meaning of contentment
Now I am happy with the Lord
Just a plain and simple chapel
Where humble people go to pray
I pray the Lord that I'll grow stronger
As I live from day to day
I've searched and I've searched
But I couldn't find
No way on earth
To gain peace of mind
Now I'm happy in the chapel
Where people are of one accord
We gather in the chapel
Just to sing and praise the Lord
Ev'ry sinner looks for something
That will put his heart at ease
There is only one true answer
He must get down on his knees
Meet your neighbor in the chapel
Join with him in tears of joy
You'll know the meaning of contentment
Then you'll be happy with the Lord
You'll search and you'll search
But you'll never find
No way on earth
To gain peace of mind
Take your troubles to the chapel
Get down on your knees and pray
Your burdens will be lighter
And you'll surely find the way

Not only the best recording of the incredible song "Crying In the Chapel" but one of the best recorded performances I ever heard!
The first time I heard this version it totally amazed me at the sound! I hadn't been saved long, and I just couldn't believe what I was hearing! Then they came out with Heaven...Just WOW!!! Praise to the LORD ALMIGHTY!!!
I love this version. Found it in the 90s. The singer is anointed by TMH. You feel it in your soul.
My son remembers this song from his early teens. He asked me to please find that song about the chapel lol. I just sent him the text. We are two of the happiest people in the world. That song carried us through many tough days in Chicago.
If you lived in Chicago, I see why you needed this.
love love love this song. it was my mommas favorite. Today, Sept 27, marks two years without her. When she passed away a part of me went with her. I miss her so very much. Listening to her favorite songs helps me feel peace inside my heart.

Wow. I love Elvis' version, but this one.... WOW! I love the way Bob Carlisle sounds singing this. What a voice!
This is certainly the best rendition that I have heard. So anointed!

Love the Floyd Kramer style piano solo that Bob does. Very nice!
***** I always thought it WAS Floyd Kramer on the actual recording?
That was Floyd. Saw it in the cassette liner notes.
Hallelujah! Glory to God!

Always loved this version. If I didn't know better I'd think it was Sammy Hagar singing gospel...

Imagine Michael Bolton, Michael McDonald doing this song. The treble would be overwhelming. I love this version.👍😇🙏
every single time i go on youtube this is the first thing that pops up lmfao its been stuck like that for at least a year now!! lol so random but i like it :D
the voice on this guy!!!
Éste tema es excelente, de todss es la mejor versión, es la que mas me gusta eboca el rock de una forma hermosa porque es una canción cristiana.
Glad that it means so much to you!

Was so sad when Bob went from music like this to Butterfly Kisses. One of Allies best!
Jimmy Willis showed this beautiful piece to a greatfull ear. The video is almost as good as the record
muchos recuerdos de mi adolescencia cuando mi corazon estaba mas comprometido con Dios
Elvis couldn't have done it better!
I agree.
He smokes old Elvis

FANTASTIC !!!
Savannah CG ..... leave it to Cliff Glenn himself, he said this was his grandfather's fav!
This album would have nearly perfect were it not for the overbearing digital drums on some tracks. Randy is way underappreciated and Bob is the only guy in the past 30 years that can wail like that.
It's never too late to repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ. Simple as that. Church can be where that happens or wherever you are.
Noted that Elvis was
talented but the distinction is Bob Carlisle is Christ centered and uses his talent to serve the Lord
Always loved their version, but you don't see any band members until halfway through the song.
💓
Absolutely beautiful and very beautifully done!!❤️👍👏✝️🌹💕🛐🔯🕎💗✋☮️🎆🇺🇸💓☸️💞☦️✡️
Incredible. Bob hits a high E above middle C. Who does that?!!
Is violence the way to go? If Europe and the whole world had not abandoned the true God and faith in Jesus, we would not have had to face hatred and darkness. Get down on your knees and worship the almighty and stand against the hate! Blessings 🙏🙏
Awesome
Excelent!!

one of my personal favorite elvis songs.... great version!
I prefer the original with probably the best backup vocals ever!
