Hi Ed, been meaning to comment for some while now, watched most of your videos re pond building and found then extremely detailed and helpful especially in my quest to build a new waterfall to my existing pond approx 2000gallons that I built some years ago. Was not happy with my waterfall so stripped it back to create a new one, low and behold I made a tear in my EMPD liner while trying to move a large piece of Granite Rock, so today I’m following your guidelines on a repair😂. Could not get any of the sealant you recommended but managed to purchase a tube of gold seal, hope it works as well has yours. By the way your Video (the struggle) is the design I’m using, belive me, I understand the frustration that must have caused you and Dave. Loved the soundtracks too. Cheer's.
Absolutely-such habitat is so important these days. Seems I spend so much of my time building them for others I’ve yet to do my own though😟🤣 always the way!

Re your query-I’m not entirely sure I understand the question?.. do you mean the surface skimmer plate has been stuck to/attached onto an area of liner that isn’t flat and has lots of wrinkles and so you’ve not been able to create a decent water tight seal? If so then yes-a liberal squirt of sealant around the plate (once it’s been well cleaned) should seal any leaks. A more permanent solution would be to remove the plate and re/fix with the wrinkles pulled out. If I have misunderstood your question do let me know!

I've been building my first pondless waterfall and unfortunately the EPDM liner got punctured when a sharp rock went down. I've been lead to believe nothing sticks EPDM except using the Firestone primer and patches that come in kits. Would that sealant you used stick an off-cut of liner as a patch? Many thanks in advance.
Hi there, thanks for your kind words and thank you for subscribing!! Yes the liner off-cut I used to create the patch was greenseal rubber EPDM. As mentioned in the video-the liner- especially so when new- has an oily surface residue that needs to be removed prior to any adhesives being applied. Clean off well using a fine brush and then really work the liner with some fine grade wire wool to roughen up the surface. Once done a sealant or rubber joining tape will stick well-use a heat gun once the patch has been applied to really soften the tape if this is the route you take to repair and push the liner patch on well. I prefer using the sealant, particular for patch repairs. Wet water sticky stuff (WWSS) is my preferred choice, however gold label pond sealant is a close second in my opinion. Although i've enjoyed watching the glossy American pond creators' videos with their flashy editing and arty slow mo's, you can't beat a good, honest, down to earth bloke who gets important information across simply. I think the American lads (Atlantis Water, AquaScape etc.) are afraid to deviate from the liner supplier's info and they just stick (pardon the pun) to official guidlines as if if budget seems to be irrelevant. Ha ha! No problem and hope you get it sorted. Pondless cascades make lovely features! Re the pond lining- do ensure that you’re using an additional layer of liner between the rocks and the main pond membrane to reduce the risk of punctures from heavy rocks damaging the liner. Off cuts of pond liner and even pond fleece cut up are very useful protection. I too watch many of the glossy vids and am frequently appalled at the size of rocks just placed directly on top of pond liner....just asking for trouble!
Have you ever tried the flex tape or gorilla patch and seal tape for repair? What's your opinion of them? I've been recommended them from a few places.
Hi there, thanks for your comment and sorry for the slow response! I’ve not used the product you mentioned; I do use butyl joining tape occasionally to fix liner patches, but in general I’ve found a decent aquatic/pond sealant and patch to make for a superior liner repair. Best, Ed
Question.. My lily pad plants were planted on the bottom of my pond about 10 years ago. How common would it be for roots of the lily pads to grow through the liner puncturing a hole or is that possible? My liner is the heavy 45 mil. A response would be appreciated. Your thoughts???
Hi there, thanks for your query; in general I wouldn’t be concerned at all about a water lily being able to damage a liner through progressive root growth-neither their fleshy rhizome or their more fibrous white roots have sharp solid growing tips, unlike some grasses and rushes which do have the potential for liner damage. If you have encountered water lily roots growing through a liner I would expect this to be as a result of previous damage that has aloud the roots to grow though. Hope this helps!

If you're leak is slow, an or two inch per day, and you have no fish; then get small animal float drinking bowl and bore some holes in it. Stick it in the pond with a permanent all season hose attached and forget all about leaks, it's just not worth the pain.
Some valid points but you talk about the same points over and over . 8 min video should take maximum 3 mins. Plus the fact you didn't even show your rubber clean up and patch work

whats your opinion on doing a patch using strong silicone vs using a primer ? as a bonding agent ?
