"they have stolen the heart from inside you, but this does not define you" my fave line from the whole movie. gives me chills every time i watch that part.
I have a soft-spot for a good grandmother / grandchild story as well. I had a very special relationship with my paternal grandmother and even moved in with her to care for her during my late teens. It is no wonder that Moana and Coco are two of my favorite animated movies. The Great Grandmother in Coco even looks like my Grandma "Mo" and I cry every time I watch it on a reaction channel.
If you don't shed a tear when Miguel sings Remember Me to Coco at the end someone removed your heart. I get choked up if I even think about it for too long.
The scene where the ocean parts & Te Kā comes racing across the seafloor towards Moana is so spectacularly well done. Te Kā might not be the most complex Disney villain, but she's certainly one of the most intimidating & frightening. And the way Moana confronts her with love and kimdness gets me every time.
Upon a rewatch I got a bit emotional during that scene because I incorrectly thought the words Moana was singing to Te Kā were the same words that were being “sung” to Moana at the beginning of the movie when she meets the Ocean! I thought it was a beautiful parallel that the words applied Moana too, in a prophetic sense:
“I have crossed the horizon to find you” (the Ocean to Moana)
“I know your name”
“They have stolen the heart from inside you” (Moana’s desire to sail being snuffed by her father)
“But this does not define you. This is not who you are. You know who you are.”
I later learned these were two completely different lyrics but it’s still cool to think about and it gets me choked up every time now.
I love that the overall theme of the film is “Do you know who you are, who you truly are?” That applies to Moana, Maui, Te Ka, Moana’s father (an adventurer at heart until he loses his friend and changes), and the island villagers as a whole, who don’t know their heritage as voyagers. The ones who know themselves the best are Moana’s grandma, who chose the right tattoo, and Tamatoa, who knows he has no depth and is distracted by Shiny. And they are the ones with the most insight into others-Tamatoa is the one who nails Maui’s deepest desires in his song.
Auli'i Carvalho was barely 15 when she did this role of Moana... what a great actress and singer... All of Hawai'i is so proud of her! There are videos of her doing the hula at the premiere, with Lin Manuel Miranda and the Rock watching her with so much pride!

I was a very skeptical when this came out about Disney Disney-fying my culture, but they knocked it out of the park. So good.
Moana and tangled are my favorite disney princess movies, even though moana only kinda technically counts as a disney "princess"
If you are a girl and have an animal sidekick in a Disney movie you are a princess.
Daughter of the head chief would be a princess. Just like pocahontas.
The part when she said "She was dehydrated" made me laugh 💀
Disney Pixar really got on a roll with Frozen, Moana and Coco. Frozen was the big success but it was Moana and Coco that had all the heart.

I'm surprised Steph hasn't did a reaction or talked about the Live Action Trailer for ONE PIECE, it already has over 7 million views and I know Steph is a big anime fan and it's the same series that Michael B. Jordan, Winston Duke, Jamie Lee Curtis, Taika Waititi and Jacob Bertrand are all big ONE PIECE fans.

Yes, grown men do like this movie. How do I know? Well, I am a grown man, and I love it 😁 The only thing I don't like about it is that the beautiful tropical setting reminds me that I was born in the wrong part of the world 😆 Other newer, computer animated Disney movies I also like very much are Coco, Encanto, Zootopia, Tangled, and Big Hero 6. Then again, they haven't been poisoned by wokeness, especially Zootopia has a message that is quite the opposite.

This is a great Disney movie, and it’s largely the great music. There is a great Star Wars parody of the song “You’re Welcome.” It’s Luke singing to Rey.
Anyone who loved the music from Moana should look up the work of the group Te Vaka, whose leader, Opetaia Fo'ai, is responsible for so much of the look, feel, and music of this film.
FYI rock announced live action for this.

No, Coco came out after this and it is an amazing Disney film, very similar to Moana. Similar plot, great music, vibrant colourful animation and full of heart.

If you were to make categories of what makes a Disney Princess, Moana comes out on top. From power, to journey, to attitude and personality, songs, maybe not sidekick, but overall score I think she's got it.

And its budget is 18 million per episode.
Original mangaka is involed in the production for a faithful adaptation. And they are trying to make it as a standalone product independent of the original anime similar to the Harry Potter or Walking dead etc... By making necessary changes to suit yhe medium but at the same time being faithful to yhe original.
One piece is a story everyone needs to watch... For its high quality characters, plot, world building, long form storytelling, thenes, sense of adventure, and many more. One piece is one of the greatest stories set in an epic fantastical lived-in breathing world having one of the if not THE best Worldbuilding.
Even though it broke all the records and became highest selling manga ever, 2nd highest selling comic ever, only after Superman, 9th highest selling work of fiction by a single author of all time in the history (crossing harry Potter)... And the story is so good that it's going strong still after 26 years of it's incipience...
But still its highly underrated and not even as popular as Dragonball.. inspite of its high quality storytelling.
That's why this live action is necessary to reach out and introduce one piece to the general audience who don't watch anime/read manga or people who don't have time to commit to 1000 chapters or some other reasons.
The Netflix season 1 will be the first saga of one piece i.e., 60 episodes or 100 chapters of one piece, which is kind of a prologue to the grand epic story it sets up.

Whenever I hear *“How far I’ll go”* my heart swells with such emotion, to the point that I almost get misty eyed.
Also while I’m not in favor of the fact that Moana is getting a live action remake not even a decade after it was released, at the same time, no one AND I MEAN NO ONE can play Maui in real life besides Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! There is no one else in the world who has the perfect mix of looks, size, charisma, and acting skill.
And I hope they also bring back Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana and Temuera Morrison as her father Tui.🤞🤞
