I love the way Winifred says “Sisters!”
Surprisingly, "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) in the tornado scene, Aunt Em once calls for Dorothy in a similar style.
In my opinion this movie captures the vibe of trick or treating in the 90’s perfectly. It like teleports me back there for a brief moment.
Fun fact: The Actress who plays Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) had an ancestor who was persecuted during the Salem Witch Trials. Fortunately the lady was found innocent and spared the gallows.
Three facts:
1.) This movie is the legit reason why I love Bette Midler so much.
2.) I love Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. He also played Abe Sapien in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
3.) The physical actor who played Thackery Binx in this movie Sean Murray, currently plays Special Agent Timothy McGee on the original NCIS series.
Side note: One year as a kid, I went trick-or-treating and got a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers wallet in my goody bag.
Still an underrated Disney gem to this day.
I think it has become a Halloween standard. Fact a new one with the same 3 witches cast even though older... pretty much were the same. I think it was true to the original and not bad... not getting that label so many Disney movies have gotten today being a new Hocus Pocus story that is a bit of a prequel to this 93 version or sorts. This movie was not loved by critics.... but audiences did and do to this day as to why it is a Halloween standard that is not a Horror movie and kids can see.
@JordanCesaroni93 Same
Yeah I don't think it's underrated anymore. I think it's become well loved. Underrated when it came out but now it's a staple.
@@davidw7 Maybe it’s standard now, but in a good way obviously! This is one of my FAVORITE Halloween movies and maybe this is an interesting fact but I was born the same year this movie came out 😊🫶🏻🩷
I always laugh when Dani screams "MOM"!. Also at the "Bless you" scene 😁
I was about 8-9 when this came out. 30 years later I still watch it every Halloween.
I really love the parallel between Thackery and Emily with Max and Dani. Max was able to do what Thackery wish he could have done: save his sister. 😢❤
I'm Wiccan, and in my teens, my first teacher and Priest, protested, signs and all, at the local movie theater about this movie. He claimed it was "anti-Witch" propaganda. I laugh and weep now lol
Do check out 'Practical Magic' (1998) with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Ta. 🎃
Sarah just acting dumb the whole movie was hilarious😂
I've always loved how no-one ever bats an eye that an 8 year old little girl roasts her older teenage brother for being a virgin.
My favorite line from the movie..what is that.."a prison for children" yes that is exactly what school is lol
The box office bomb that became a cult classic.
Originally, Steven Spielberg was going to direct the film, but was too busy working on a little movie called JURASSIC PARK.
I think it mainly bombed because it was in theaters in May of '93 and most people don't care about a Halloween movie in the Spring season... I would have definitely gone to see it but I wasn't born until October of '93 lol 😂❤
There is a scene that was left out of the film explaining each sister's father. Mary's father was a bloodhound which is why she barks, scratches herself, and can sniff out children. Sarah's father was the village idiot which explains her fully. I forgot who Winifred's father was though.
I think it was a warlock which explains Winnie’s powers and leadership.
You sure Mary's father wasn't a Hell hound and not just a bloodhound?? Yikes either way 😆
@@16taysia Look at the bonus features for the movie.
@ComicPhreak No I believe you, I was just asking lol
Winifred: Why was I cursed with such idiot sisters?
Sarah: Just lucky, I guess.
Best ever! 😂
I was 8 when this came out, so the same age as Dani, and I had an older brother. There was definite fighting and screaming, “Mom!” lol.
This movie is a huge part of my childhood, and I was quite reluctant about the sequel. It actually held up really well, but I still think the first is a perfect classic and was fine as a standalone.
It sounds like you ladies have some fascinating stories of your own! Great reaction ❤
After 30 years this year was the first time I've actually seen the beginning of this movie. I didn't even know there was a 17th century segment for the longest time.
Sarah's song didn't work on them because they weren't completely listening to her.. that's why they were like cover your ears to the other kids but it was too late
15:18 Oh if Thackeray grew up in a time period where witches were being burned, it’s likely he made a judgement call that speaking to anyone back then would get him killed/tortured/captured for centuries for being a possible demon. Especially being a black cat, commonly associated as a witch’s familiar, which makes Winfred’s curse even more messed up.
Even if he can’t die, I’m not sure if he’s immune to pain.
I just went to Salem Sunday (I live about 45 minutes away), and got to see all the houses they used in the movie, it was so cool. Amuck amuck amuck. My 27 year old Daughter can quote the entire movie 😂
Thackery Binks is Tim McGee from NCIS XD :D
Thora Birch was a main character in the movie American Beauty, made a few years later.
And in Monkey Trouble! 😊❤
Thank you for your back story. That was so interesting.
Thira Birch, the little sister, was great in everything she was in. She was Jack Ryan's daughter in the Harrison Ford filns Patriot Games and clear and Oresent Dabfer. She was the daughter in American Beauty.
I used to know Larry Bagby (Ice).
Satan and his wife are Garry and Penny Marshall acting/directing siblings. Garry created the TV show Happy Days andctge spin off Laverne ad Shirley where Penny starred as Laverne. He directed a lot if films, notably Pretty Woman and she directed A League of Their Own.
Doug Jones is the zombie ex-boyfriend. He's been unrecognizable in tons of roles. He was the fish guy in The Shape of Water which won the Best Picture Oscar.
"Who Framed Roger Rabbit": the shoe dipping is often found more disturbing than anything in ultra-violent movies. And now, "Hocus Pocus" has its jump scare. "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" also had a jump scare.
25:00 37:40 Just to remind myself.
11:00 13:00 28:00 A couple other memorable moments. Little Miss Snarker.
Love this movie growing up. it's the Disney movie where Max absolutely drew a pot leave on his paper in school...
Thank for your love care and support
Great reaction Girls!!!! I love It. This movie is amazing, so iconic. React to the sequel please Hocus Pocus 2
This is my favorite Halloween movie because it's a Salem Witch Trials in the form of a teenage comedy.
this movie had no business being this damned good
This movie is a Halloween classic and I will never tire of watching it every year. Ice and Jay are such great random characters they crack me up. I also adore Thackery Binx, genuinely love that character! “There are not enough children in the world to make thee young and beautiful!”
This was a blast of a reaction! Had so much fun rewatching this with you two 🙌🏾!
If you haven't seen The Witches of Eastwick I highly recommend it Susan Sarandon Cher Michelle Pfeiffer
This has been my #1 Halloween movie for almost 18 years and I’m 22 now. It’s just the fantasy comedy aspect of it, it’s so well done! I hope you pals are gonna watch the sequel! 🪦🎃
And p.s Kristen i loved your IT Chapter One reaction! Can’t wait for Chapter Two ❤
One of my favorite Halloween movies ever!!! Grew up watching it all the year & I still love it as an adult! So quotable, really funny & it takes place in Salem so it's the perfect Halloween flick!"AMUCK! AMUCK! AMUCK!" 🎃🎃 The entire cast is great but man Doug Jones as Billie is my favorite!😎
It pains me that they didn’t release a full version of that skeleton guy singing Witchcraft, he killed it
Oh my God I just realized who that actor is it’s Sean Murray who plays Timothy McGee on NCIS
@Parents who eat all their kids' candies, you're an adult, you can buy candy. they can't! they had to walk a long distance and they were looking forward to it. do you steal their Christmas presents too? have self control.
Hansel and Gretel witch hunters is an underrated film imo
"Casper" is another fun Halloween classic!
I first watched this movie in fall 96 I was in Junior High 6th Grade in NewBerg, OR
I've been thinking, maybe they can hear Binx cause Max lit the candle. no one's understood him to this point.
my thoughts: this is a halloween staple for me. I freaking love it. I make fun of it a lot but I love it.
the sequel... I think they tried too hard to recapture the magic. but it's not unwatchable. I recommend to see it. plus you get to see them as kids in a flashback. it's as hilarious as you can guess.
12:53 You know it's a Disney movie if the teenager just says uh oh instead of cussing 😂😂😂 BTW check out the movie Monkey Trouble for more of Thora Birch aka Dani 😊❤
The guy dressed like the devil is Gary marshall and the woman is penny marshall from a series called Laverne and Shirley! Gary directed the show
This movie was a failure when it came out which I never understood because I saw it in theaters and loved it from the start. The reviews said it was bad and I could only wonder did the critics see the same movie I did because I had a great time and who doesn't love Bette Midler singing I Put a Spell On You? It's iconic.
I strongly suggest you see the sequel. While it isn't perfect it is also a fun ride and you could tell everybody enjoyed making it.
This is a favorite movie but I still find it hilarious that the bullies who picked on him for being from California were more Californian than he is.
Through these rough times I’m going through rn. All these Kristen videos is just making me smile and happy. I’m enjoying watching her (and others) react to some of my favorites! ❤❤❤❤
Love how Disney uses a dark concept add comedy and song.
The second one is good too :)
I was Dani's age when this movie came out so it always held a special place for me. I was so excited to see the sequel, but it just wasn't nearly as good.
There is a town that believes like that. This movie takes place in Salem Mass. The place fampus fornthe witch trials.
The lead guy was in a tv series called Eerie Indiana. It only lasted a season but it was a fun, weird show.
Loved eerie indiana!😊
Both of you should watch Hocas Pocus 2
The remake (although its more of a sequel) Is decent, it deepens the lore of the Sanderson sisters which was great(and yes in my opinion, they've still got it) though I will say that its still not as good as the first and some of the song choices disappointed me. But its still a good movie.
For me, I have a deadly allergy to peanuts so back when I would go pass Halloween back in early 2000 (I am 32) each years I would have to look at all the candies back at home and separate the ones I could eat and those I couldn't in the end I would have only like half of the candies, sometime less.
Great movie but still weirds me out that everyone judging Max for being a virgin like what is he? 14 or 15 years old?
25:07 You're welcome😂🎉
Such a fun cooky Halloween movie! Now you have to react to Hocus Pocus 2!!!
Happy Halloween!
Hocus Pocus is a movie for children...in the 90s. We were different lol.
Unfortunately the new one was made for children in the 2020s and everything about it feels cheap. The Sanderson Sisters and the actresses who played them deserved better.
The man dressed as the Devil is longtime producer/director Gerry Marshall & the woman who comes out in pajamas and hair rollers is his daughter, actor/director Penny Marshall.
Actually Penny is Garry's younger sister, not daughter.
Loved this movie growing up and tbh it’s one my only “must watch or it’s not Halloween” movies
I seen these movie several times when I was a kid.
Another glorious morning makes me sick!😁
ah the nostalgia i watched it when i was a kid also not a vegetable. my sister was quite spooked by this movie as a kid. just a week ago we were talking about this movie but forgot the name so i searched alot online took like an quite a time to find it
You should react to hocus pocus 2
The first one was awesome. Such a great movie. The sequel... not so much.
Just glad you guys are watching actual good content instead of watching shitty Disney shows and shilling out for them like the crew at Reel Rejects is doing. I can never bring myself to watch Greg again, Thank goodness Jaby always keeps it reel and doesnt sell his soul to corporations.
I'm always going back 10 or 20 seconds to see Kristen get jump scared 😂 she's so funny every time
You should check out the sequel! It’s not quite as good, but still enjoyable in its own way.
As a grown 33 year old man, loved seeing y’all react to this movie this time of the year. Fun watching y’all two enjoy it.
Another movie y’all might enjoy (not Halloween at all) but Casablanca is a great black and white film y’all would love. Great story y’all would get kick out of
My own personal dark theory, I don't think them two bullies survived. If you have watched the sequel you might know what I'm talking about and might agree with me. Or maybe I'm just crazy.
No I’m afraid you’re probably correct because in the Sanderson sisters cottage Lego Ideas set you build 2 cages that hang from the ceiling and well…you also put a skeleton in each of the cages 😂😂😂
@16taysia to make the black flame candle it was said it was made from the fat of a dead hangman. Presumably the very hangman who was responsible for their deaths. In the sequel the one who makes the black flame candle mentions the book showed him how, and it wasn't pleasant. He also mentioned getting beat up by bullies earlier in the night before witnessing the end of the Sanderson sisters in the graveyard. Presumably the same bullies. You need fat from a dead hangman or in this case fat from two dead men whom are currently hanging. IE hang men. Did he kill them to make the black flame candle?
@@Yugioh420 how was it originally made then if it was the hangman that hung the sisters? They have a cousin that heard about it and acted out revenge?
@tupac1971ever that part is never explicitly stated, only that it was made from the fat of a dead hang man. Though with what we learn in the second movie, and the fact there "mother" the witch whom gave them the book is still alive, I would guess She did.
@tupac1971ever or since the devil is there master it could have been implied that Dark magic itself created the candle from the fat of the dead hangman when Winifred called upon the dark magic spell. However since she died before calling upon dark forces a second time, "book" took it upon itself to show the kid what needed to be done to bring them back for a third time. And since powerful dark forces where not giving a helping hand it was a more well let's say hands on experience this time to create the candle.
The look of pure terror when they found sarah in the bed was hilarious
This is one of my favorite movies from my childhood I watch it every year with my mom she love this movie too thanks guys
Your reaction to the little sister screaming for mom had my dying
I get choked up every time when Binx dies and Thackery says goodbye to Dani. 😭
Bewitching reaction! 🧙♀️ A little fanwacking...
There's a side plot that was cut off the film that the lure of Sara's power only works in tandem with enchanted candy there's a deleted scene showing them giving away candy and in the mob there's actual teens. I think they did right to cut it because it takes away from her power.
To me is the fact that at the time of the song, Alison floored the room with salt that protected them. Long post. Lol I ❤ this movie. Lol
The last thing I saw Thora Birch (Dani) in was The Walking Dead
300 years ago they built houses with fire sprinklers?
They would've added that to meet modern regulations just like many of the historical buildings in Salem.
What a great reaction
From Salem and would love to see y’all here for Halloween!🖤☺️
Thora really is an amazing actress!
It's always a good day watching these two beauties react 😊🙏🌹🌹
I loved the new one. It may have been more nostalgic for me, I don't know, but either way I highly enjoyed it.
Kristin’s smile and laugh are ❤
That's not what virgin means in an occult sense.
This movie is the legit reason why I love Bette Midler so much.
Also, I love Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. He also played Abe Sapien in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
And the physical actor who played Thackery Binx in this movie currently plays Special Agent Timothy McGee on the original NCIS series.
That was Doug Jones?? I LOVE him! I became obsessed with him after Hell Boy and then Pan’s Labyrinth. He’s such a well trained movement based actor. (I get real nerdy about that type of stuff 😅)
FUN FACT: Thora Birch played Dani. Her parents were performers in the adult entertainment industry. Yes, p*rn. More treat then trick.
I never jumped like the two of you did when I was kid. It is freaky though.
Definitely check out the sequel just go in with an open mind about how modern life would fit in. Sisters still got it though 😉
Not many people know about this movie nor the fact they made a sequel to it or plans to make one.
Great duo!
Everyday is Halloween!Everyday is Halloween!Everyday is Halloween!
Everyday is Halloween!!
jaby jeepers creepers 2 plz
you should watch The Witches (1990) 90’s halloween movies are just the best
Watched the alot as a kid! 😂🤣 LETS GOOOO!!
Sarah Jessica Parker crushes her role in this! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣
Sarah Jessica must have been preparing to play Carrie Bradshaw during this role.
All they had to do was make more potion 🧪 and suck the young lives out of all the other children and they could’ve lived young forever and keep coming back every 300 years.
They should watch Lady in White 😄
The only thing I liked about the new Part 2 is Billy the zombie's story.
The most recent Thora Birch movie I can find is 13 Minutes from 2021.
She was in The Walking Dead a few years ago.
Love the kids in this
"Vampire in Brooklyn" for 90s horror comedy with Eddie Murphy!
