Thanks for the video. I had my corded electric hedge trimmer for several years now. I used it to cut down ornamental grasses extensively. Today I noticed it loss power. I saw black stain at the air inlet. I believe mine has the same faith as your video shown. I look online for new Toro 22" cord trimmer from Home Depot online. It sells for $68. I think cord trimmer is worth of money than battery or gas type.

Yea they’re fine but I’ve heard a lot of stories of people not paying attention and slicing the extension cord off 😂

I still have an old Black and Decker GT-200 hedge trimmer that my old man bought in the 90s. It's a bit gnarly now but it still goes like a champ. A few years ago I bought a pole trimmer and the thing broke down in a month!

Watching a couple of these before taking a B&D TR165 apart. Good to know what to look for when I do, so thanks for this!

b&d quality seems to be long gone since the late 90's
have the same unit, took mine apart today as the motor started smoking, motor felt way too tight like dry bushings... cleaned up the armature & spaces between the bars, steel wool'd the shaft end & bushings and 3&1 reoiled. Seems ok doubt it will make it the rest of the season. Odd its such a tight fit still even after bushing realignment, maybe a light pass of 2k grit on a dowel to the bushings if I take it apart again lol

I got a troy bilt one that when facing the blades down it will run fine but if you start lifting it up into the air it dies. Idk if it's a wiring issue or what

Before you bother with a full teardown, make sure you didn't just Cut The Freaking Extension Cord. Please do not ask how I know this.

Black & Decker trimmers are garbage! I have competely dismantled my B&D trimmer (HH2210, Type 1). The orange plastic housing is not strong enough to support the blade and by simply using this trimmer, with the expected side by side motion of the blade (by the user) over time, you will wear out the orange plastic case where this blade is internally mounted, making the internal support location on this trimmer larger & larger & larger until the drive gear will actually wear a hole right thru the right side of the orange case. This trimmer was designed poorly, IMO, it was designed to be disposable!
