Just saw this video. Very good/ accurate comments regarding "many" reviewers these days. IMO "all" reviewers should state their range of hearing, also how the speaker is placed, the size of the room, and what is the room's acoustics like.

I was fishing about on the Zu Audio DWX speakers after seeing the ASR apparatchiks going off on him over Zu. A reviewer was doing the exact same thing…parings … trying to explain opportunities for the Zu DWX speakers to fit into your life or whatever…

Btw, I don't think the lintons need any "help" with their highs. They're not very bright, sure, but they sound might sweet. Best sounding speaker i've ever had. And I had quite a few. but at the end of the day, sound is very personal. I love them, someone else will hate them. That's all :)

    Lets go
Edit: also isn't the -3db point for the lintons not closer to some thing like 15kHz in the measurements shown at 7:13. As well if you look at erins audio corners measurement the roll of apears to be happening at even higher frequencies some were around 17kHz. Hard to exactly read with the log scale. But this is just some nitpicking and maybe i am just unable to read log scales.

I'm honestly trying to understand the point of the video? Why the beginning(and title? and the subject? I guess for the clicks, because your still at 3k subs, and Darko is somewhere quite different. sorry had to go there), why the poo pooing of his SUBJECTIVE views? They are no definitive end all be all truths. I would say most watching would understand that. You kind of came off that way, as the "knower of truth", but that's just my opinion.
If this video would've only been the recommendations and suggestions at the end, I would've given it a thumbs up. This time no.
Good luck with the channel. 👍

They have literally no idea about audio, science, how the measurements work etc. They recommend products basing on their imagination and people spend money on something which isnt worth a penny. People spend their hard earned money on setups which are faulty from the start.

Cheap tweeters and woofers, uncomfortable with mids and cheap amps, uncomfortable everywhere proliferate. I trust JD and enjoy his reviews. Darko is a great reviewer. He is capable of creating a reviewing context that is familiar territory for anyone seeking an impression of what a product does. The Wharfedales are going for an audience whose uncritical listening is satisfied by something more editorialised without straying too far from accuracy. The detail is there if you want it but not forensically exposed. The speaker doesn’t need a super tweeter. It wasn’t to Darko’s taste but he could empathise with what was on offer. He wasn’t advocating using a budget amplifier as much as saying that the excesses of such an amplifier would be rendered harmless and the speaker would still shine. He was hinting at the nostalgic premise of the speaker’s presentation rather than suggesting only using it with cheap equipment. We also need to remember that class-D amplifiers are often hyper detailed and dry sounding as an example of what can be wrong with sound. People choosing the Wharfedales will be looking for a relaxed view of their music without fatigue and that’s what Darko was saying. Just like televisions nowadays are often so unnatural in their presentation he was alluding to the Wharfedales being more naturalistic to the buyers who gravitate towards something that pulls the extremes of heightened acutance back towards natural.

I like your down to earth comments. I have subscribed. I also currently watch Darko, the British Audiophile and even sometimes the Cheapaudioman.
Tbh. I like aspects of all of them. But I guess in two of these three cases success leaves them open to being influenced, even if subconsciously.
Your exposure of the sometime pretentious and "flowery" embellishments is maybe over due. But as a Brit, we like your kind of "pricking the pompous bubble" humour.
Thats not to say any of those I mention arnt good entertainment. Or in the case of Tarun (British Audiophile), not as far as I know doing it for a "living", but still to me at least very technically knowledgeable.

I take issue with your suggestion that it doesn’t make sense to pair the Lintons with a quality inexpensive Class D amplifier. Amplification isn’t magic. The new Fosi V3 and Allo Audio’s Volt + D amplifiers are tremendous offerings which use little power and take up little space. Class D is the high end now (and I say this owning a stupid number of Class A amplifiers).
The best way to build a high end setup for 2 grand is to spend most of your money on the speakers.

    • @scientificaudiophile

@@scientificaudiophile "Darko's suggestion wasn't to pair the Lintons with a good amp like the Fosi, but a bad one that doesn't have a flat frequency response." What exact model did he suggest?
I was lucky and got a pair with stands for 650€. I thought i take it, if i don't like it i just sell them for 750€ ;-).
I like them, even more than my ATC SCM19v2 with sub. I use a MiniDSP Flex as preamp/dac and to fix a room issue in the bass region, the rest is unchanged. My amp is a Yamaha A-S 1200, but i have them running with a Fosi V3 48v right now. To be honest, i can't tell a difference. I think the V3 is, even though there is some design inherent load dependency, a very nice little amp.
Hard to justify keeping the A-S 1200 now. 😅

    • @scientificaudiophile
      @scientificaudiophile  Рік тому +2

The FOSI with the 48volt power adapter is excellent. Class D amps still have to do a little work to get rid of some frequency responses changing with different ohm loads, but that probably won’t be long now. NAD is making a great, but expensive class D amp that solves the issue. When the FOSI’s of this world can duplicate that under $300, the world of hi-end amplification may change rapidly.

I don’t consider myself knowledgeable in the HiFi area in anyway shape or form, nor do I have a proper listening room. I do have a Yamaha R-N803 amplifier (which I believe has pretty similar specs as the A-S801 as far as the amplifier section which I know was covered in a response to another video). I have a pair of Wharfedale Linton’s and a pair of Klipsch Heresy IV’s. I honestly think both sound good in their own way, but I have never felt the Linton’s sounded dark. They sound dark when compared directly to the Heresy’s which are using horns and probably emphasize the high frequencies more, but I have never considered these a design “fault” of the Linton’s, just the design difference between the 2 different speaker systems and the way they are designed to reproduce whatever frequency ranges. I’ve also never thought using a different amp would make them sound vastly different or that I should use a “brighter” amp with them as that just seems ridiculous. I do know that I can use the Yamaha Room Correction which does help things sound a little more balanced which again makes sense because the room will certainly effect the sound. Most of these ideas just seem logical to me but maybe not to others.

OK, I was with you there right up until you grabbed that f-ing ugly super tweeter. That is not the solution!
If I bought those speakers I would be playing with the crossover and perhaps adding a bypass cap and doing some measurements to confirm what I'm getting. It's possible the actual tweeter can't go higher than 12k but i would bet it's more the crossover using cheap parts or being overly padded down.
Sure, that's a more hands on and technical way to address it but at the end you might have a custom upgraded speaker that still looks classy and not like you added some random plastic box on top of that beautiful wood cabinet.

The Lintons don't fall off at 12khz, and the review you are misrepresenting here states they are "... superbly flat and even up to 15kHz, above which the tweeter's output rapidly rolls off". • @realitykicksin8755

@scientificaudiophile You need to learn to read a log chart. The distance of the falloff is approx. 20% of the distance between 10-100Khz. The log scale is in the 4 steps and as such the frequency fall off is 10^4.2 = 15849Hz. This fall off is clearly above 50% of your viewers hearing range. And you are trying to sell a supertweeter to your viewers as a solution to Darko's problem. The fact is that your solution is just as bad as bright sounding electronics. Throw money at it and ignore crossover superposition while you are at it. Those Lintons don't need any tweaking ... they are perfectly sound as it is.
