I wasn't there yet to see this version, but the switch version still has post-nerf death wish. Those versions are horribly difficult and unbalanced, when I played it on steam, I did them in 1 or 2 sittings, while the switch version took at least three months.
I remember this console launch version as well. Another difference that wasn't brought up here that I remembered was how the Snatcher fight lacked visual aid of specific attacks, making the fight by technicality harder on console because you had to really pay attention to the positioning of some attacks.
One thing that made it even harder was the fact that the checkpoint wasn’t present, but when you died in the fight you wouldn’t get the free heal between phases 1 and 2. If you died on Phase 2, the fight would actually become HARDER because of this.
I KNEW I WASN'T CRAZY! I distinctly remembered Conductor saying "Darlin" on my first playthrough and then every subsequent one, I thought I made that up in my head.
I played it later on the Switch; maybe about a year ago for the first time, so I missed all those oddities. Such a great game though, and I really hope they make a sequel!
These oddities weren’t on the Switch version actually - apparently they took a different method to port it because it used a later version of the game and actually received patches more quickly
@@DoorsInTheLabyrinth see while it didn't have the problems of THIS port it has a fair amount of problems in its own right given the performance on that system. I should know I only have a Switch to play it on... still a fun time though

I remember not getting the console version because apparently there was some issues with porting over the DLC so I decided to wait for that to be resolved or one day get it on PC
As a PC player, I always follow how the console counterparts do. Back then, updates for console version of games were super late, approved in bulks, or never released. The problem is the process of authorization on console is a major hassle.
TCRF, saving cut content for everyone to see. I honestly love a lot the cut content as much as a videogame, because it's always fascinating to look at what could never make it. A Hat in Time is a great game for its own, and its a surprise that the console version is based on an early PC build, although this kind of cases turn out to be more common that anyone expect it. Haven't played the console version yet, but I can see how of the changes were better left untouched. I didn't know about Conductor's "darling" word being cut but it's a shame actually, that line adds so much to his personality, also it's a surprise you got his VA's autograph too! Nice.
the two things i remember from this version is a glitch that alows you to use time stop hat constantly, ufos taking 2 hits to kill insted of just 1making the homing attacks more easier and the old select save screen
It's actually very common, sadly. For example, the indie fighting game Skullgirls suffered by having to constantly push back DLC releases because they needed to get build approves from Sony.
I first got A Hat in Time on my switch and for some odd reason, Switch version was a completely (though visual quality crunched) finished and patched version of AHIT, With DLC too! This was before the DLC patch for other consoles though and I learned that when a friend of mine was playing through for the first time on her Xbox! There was an extra room in Vanessa's Manor that she stumbled upon and none of us had an idea what was going on! We eventually found out from the official discord that the console version still had some old stuff in it and the extra room was cut in the final version. It's interesting to see the differences between final and console
I remember playing this version on xbox 1. One of the main differences I noticed was that the mafia were now holding signs in chapter 1 act 6, while originally, they looked like they should've had accordions and drum on their back? All I can deduse was flags popping out of his back and his hands holding nothing should be holding something.
3:03 I remember that this dialogue was also in the pre-StD Steam version. It's odd that it was replaced considering it's not implausible that some other characters know about time pieces (e.g., Snatcher refers to them by name before his fight) and, with the release of the DLC that replaced the dialogue, there are more time pieces on the planet than there are that fell out of the spaceship.
My first experience with the game was the physical Switch release years after it had been on console. Funnily enough, I don't even know if Switch version had those changes or not, since I've only ever played the game with the DLC. I did also get the physical PS4 version later on, but by then the DLC had released there as well.
Fun fact: in this build, you could still access one of the secret areas that were cut from queen Vanessa’s manor. In the early console version, if you went to the piano room, you could find a switch near the door you use to enter it. If you walk up to it there will be a button prompt and if you press it. It will open up a secret staircase. Sadly, this was fixed in the dlc update.
I first experienced A Hat In Time on the switch. Hearing The Conductor say darling makes me think that DJ Grooves is supposed to win the battle of the birds. The boss fits him better than The Conductor.
I remember finding an out of view lever using the camera and pulling it to open a secret door in the piano room of Vanessa's Manor. It would open up to a staircase leading down to a wall, but aside from keeping Vanessa from catching you, it didn't really seem to serve a purpose. I tried to show a friend one day while we were messing around with the more recently introduced multiplayer and learned it was no longer there. I later found some people discussing it online, and it turns out it may have been a remnant of another level of the manor that was cut.
Yup! I remember that from the kickstarter demo builds. If I'm not mistaken, it used to lead to one of the bonus levels that got rethemed into the Time Rifts - I believe it was the one with the wall of extending platforms?
How i experienced a hat in time. (true) I was in a darksould (3) phase where games had to be fun and challenging for me to have fun. Saw "all bosses" saw the relatabilities to sm64 and lack of animation, said ill never play it. few years later with a PC i was board saw some modded gameplay (levels) had some money so i decided to give it a try. One of the best decisions i ever made.
I remember not being able to turn off the hud on photo mode. That was annoying. Idk if it was patched. Honestly on just glad we got this game on console. A lot of awesome indie plataformers never release for them and i don't have a pc rn soo.. Sucks to be me i guess
I definitely remember buying the red crayon relic from the random Mafia at the stand. I couldn't remember where he was in the town, but I went around to each of the stands on the steam version years later wondering where he was, only to find that I already had all the relics by some point later on in the game. I also noticed in the steam version that there's a puzzle in Subcon Forest that doesn't actually yield any reward at all for some reason. After watching this video though, I'm sure it must be related to a painting in Subcon Forest that is no longer there or was changed for some reason, possibly since it requires the Dweller Mask.
Playing the steam version a LOT of things changed over time. They kept getting rid of confusing things and making things easier. In fact some people refer to one change as "nerfed" because some things were so much easier. It doesn't matter, the Death Wishes are largely harder than I can handle, nerfed or not. Speed runners generally use the first release of the game because they use bugs that were patched. Until recently the main speed running categories were all ones that allow lag bugs where you use another program to slow your computer down on a button press. But recently people started prefering to run without that.
I’m still waiting on the physical Xbox One copy. I remember all these changes and man it feels weird to play a hat in time now, I got so used to how the game was, like the old pause menu and the old ice hat statue pose. I would love a mod that would allow you to mix and match certain elements of different builds to just see the differences.
One visual glitch I encountered on console is that for the 2 of the masks their png was switched with the other, then when I got the DLC it was fixed, also they removed the steam punk hat skin 😢😢😢
I got this game on my ps4 in 2021 but I’ve know it for years before i played it and i never knew the differences when people showed the gameplay and when I played it for some reason
Just watched the video, thanks so much from us who enjoy this games cut content, me and some friends where the only reason that release console stuff even got on the TCRF, my man SuperCoolSonic spent hours upon hours getting everything documented
The only thing I was aware of is that there is no Vanessa‘s curse on the Nintendo switch version of a hat in time ,not only that, but you can’t really play online with other people especially with their own worlds to and lastly, more collectibles of hats or stickers. Would you do a video what consul is best to play from independent game companies. because I swear, I know Nintendo switch version there are not a lot of games from different companies.
Ah, I'm afraid I can't do a video on that, because I primarily do Playstation gaming. I don't have a Switch and I've never owned any of the Xbox consoles.
I remember hearing that Online Party is dependent on some unique feature of Steam's networking to function. As for Vanessa's Curse, that was an adopted community creation, and one that piggybacks off of Online Party, so besides the porting issues (getting Hat on the switch was apparently a miracle of sorts) I'd imagine that's why.
I.. think I might've played through this version on PC?? I bought the GOG version of the game because it was during a time when I was trying to cut out DRM, so I even copied the game to a portable drive At some point though, I did get access to Seal the Deal, so I'm not sure if I could even go back and check to see if my drive has the old version still.
I didn't think it was possible to experience this version on PC, since these are specifically the initial console builds. The Steam version had already fixed these issues on launch.
A friend of mine gifted me the Nintendo Switch version of A Hat in Time back in 2020 as a birthday present, with both Seal the Deal and Nyakuza Metro. I had so much fun with it and I couldn't put it down. Although, I will say I haven't experienced any of these oddities in that version of the game. Everything I had played was basically everything that the PC release had (minus the modding workshop because... well, you know, console and everything) but it is super interesting to see everything that was different about the intial console releases of the game. I can't believe it took them so long to put the DLC on the PS4 and Xbox One.
It’s crazy that it took so long to fix the console releases. I refrained from getting the game for some time specifically because of the missing content.
I only ever played the console version of this game and even then, I still found the game unrefined and unpolished in parts. Hopefully when I do inevitably come back to the game, a lot of issues I saw back then will not be there.
