+Nada Intelectual Perhaps it was a concert for somewhat "difficult" audience and only few believed in its success. There are some members of the orchestra, feeling quite pretty though. Nevertheless, the performance was beautiful and Joyce - I guess - spreaded her "feeling of joy" around. I'm sure it stays in memory of many of the audience. Takes a great artist to do that. :)
Even though she's a mezzosoprano, she also hits notes that are lower and higher than the average mezzosoprano range that are in the alto range and soprano range.
When a singer sings the words to a song, the lyricist is supposed to get credit. So, this should be: music by Leonatd Bernstein; words by Stephen Sondheim.
Generally not - when singers sing Schumann, Schubert, Mahler, Strauß songs the lyricist is seldom mentioned. I doubt the majority of music lovers even know who wrote the text to Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben or Schubert's Wintereise
@@Yves_Ka I see lyricists credited all the time. I Feel Pretty " is a popular song from an American musical. It has a composer and a separate lyricist. If a musician or an orchestra plays just the music then sure. Composer only. But when someone sings the words, the person who wrote those words should be credited. In my humble opinion, of course. Clearly, some others don't agree.
@@aresee8208 It is pretty much the same with opera librettists. Mozart's da Ponte and Verdi's Piave and Boito are kinda well known - but does anybody remember who the librettists were for the dozens of Donizetti and Bellini and most Puccini operas?
@@Yves_Ka Well, if someone knows the music from West Side Story but doesn't know Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics, that's on them. Not because Sondheim is obscure.
I would not be judgmental and say “it is on them” - on the other hand if you have a problem that the majority of music lovers don’t know who the librettists are, that remains your problem
In my opinion, this is horrible. So many damn singers think Broadway musicals are operas gone bad and they have to correct this mistake. It is not an opera. Maria is a simple girl, and this should be sung simply.
@@mauriziocasa9203 I love DiDonato - what are you talking about?? You notice I was referring to the contributor with the name of CLARK. This person has removed his comment so it is not quite clear why I wrote what I wrote. He was complaining about opera singers singing musicals - so I dont know what your problem with me is
She knocks this song out of the park. Dazzling rendition of "I Feel Pretty." Back in 1963 my high school Farragut did this Bernstein song. Memories
I just love how much fun the director has :D
I love those who sing really for others. So does Joyce. Her art of singing makes her dress also wonderfull.
Wonderful performance!
Finally someone sings this song in a way that shows its true potential. Much better than the usual B'way approach.
She managed ruined the song. On the other hand opera singers can ruin anything. No one is surprised.
@@yogajedi3337
Completely agreed
Though it was written for B’way……..
This song is so good ! This song was played in my fav "Last Holiday"
This is amazing!!! How I love her voice😍.
Why does it seem that nobody there except the conductor and Joyce are feeling pretty?

I thought I could see quite a few of them smiling :)
Austrians.
Known only for their wild sense of humor more than Germans...
The director felt pretty that night.......
yosoydeyarumal es un guapo!!.
😂
😂
I didn't know that Ted Mosby is also the conductor, lol
Damian Swist 😂💀

She is a soprano! Idk why she considers her self as mezzo
@@kyriakosanastasiou5653 what do base you expertise on? She is what she says she is. Outside people dont get to dictate what people are or are not.
Beautiful!
The best version ❤️
What a superb dress 😃❤
it looks like Joyce really REALLY loved that dress. She used it several times in many many concerts.
If I owned that dress I would never stop wearing it
+Edson J. Cornejo And the dress is beautiful! :)
right?
Tat dress is splendid!!!!! I not only wish I owned it, but wished I rocked it like she does!
Que maravilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh Joyce you are so pretty and that fabulous voice. Bravaaaaa.Love you.❤❤❤❤
From a long distance she reminds me of Celine 😍

there's no doubt she is more than pretty!
Oh my, that drrrrress! ^_^
It's so awesome and somehow it suits her perfectly! :D

I think the conductor feels prettier than Joyce!
Wow!
i feel pretty, witty and gay!!!
If there was ever a perfect dress for a song, then it must be this one.
Lovely.
Happy Birthday!!
+fiogray the past of "spit" is "spat" not "spitted". (the iPhone wasn't letting me reply to that sorry)
Brilliant
Can't compare with the original sound track!!!
What do you think the ''original soundtrack'' is?
1:46 all feel boring...
My homework again;(
Astounding. Facial expression were magnificent. Not feeling that zany gown.
LOL (I spitted my cereal on the keyword!!)
wooooooow
I love her dress, it's awesome but just a little random.
🎉i still prefer pretty yende
Heh, was she really made to alter the lyrics to BRIGHT/TONIGHT not to say GAY/TODAY?
Jotdee Lyrics were changed in the film, the original musical song sang "Bright/Tonight" :)
Jotdee. The word 'gay' has changed its meaning. If she used the original lyrics, it would be embarrassing.
hehehehehehehehehehehhehehe
I think the conductor feels prettier than the singer.
Hahaha
felt so gay 🥰

You win for funniest comment.
Reaction paper for grade 10 heheheh
Hahahahahahahah
Her voice is wrong for this song. It should be a teenagers voice.
the singer over did the accent. It was cringe.
You no hear da Porto Rico gringo speka da long time
She wished she were soprano 😅
scheiße
Does the singer know this isn't an act.. its just music lol
She thinks she's a goat and sings with a vibrato that imitates a goat, lol.
and gay
Natalie Wood she's NOT. LOL
I didn't say that either way. LOL
+Kimberly Froberg At the end of the day... she is JOYCE DIDONATO!! (what a woman she is!!)
Natalie Wood didnt sing in the movie it was Marni Nixon .
Too heavy operatic. She must learn how to sing lighter.
That is a horrid dress.
FORGET IT !
Too Operatic.
Bob Downes it was originally written as an opera. That is how Bernstein wanted it.
@@marthamckay3883 No one cares how it was written. It's too heavy. Check lighter versions and you might understand.
With their over the top annoying vibrato a trained opera singer can ruin any music.
In my opinion, this is horrible. So many damn singers think Broadway musicals are operas gone bad and they have to correct this mistake. It is not an opera. Maria is a simple girl, and this should be sung simply.
I'm sorry but that is just terrible I mean terrible I like this song but she made it sound horrible and I mean horrible
Jhanaya Cox explain please...
Don't torture yourself. Don't listen to it.
Clark - go listen to Bernstein's own recording of this musical - complete with opera singers. Cant be so wrong if the composer used them too
