    I decided that you all don't need to see my smashed-pie face for when I was showing the outfit and the lures, sorry if it seems a bit weird having my head cut off but I wanted to be zoomed in a bit more on the outfit itself.

    Great video mate. I have two Shimano raiders (snapper rods) 5 - 8kg paired with Shimano Stradic FL4000 reels. I was thinking of getting a 3000 for LB but do you think that these rods are a tad to heavy for LB stuff?

      They will do the job, although casting smaller lures like a 3 inch slim swimz on them may not be easy and limited on distance. You can help to combat that with Gosen casting braid or YGK X Braid in 16-20lb, both super thin and slick.

    Hi Jordan, I'm looking to target Snapper and Mulloway, land based in Newcastle NSW. I'd be fishing in the harbour or off the breakwalls. Do you reckon 7ft6 is long enough? Is a graphite rod ok? Trying to keep costs down. Any thoughts on Shimano Catana? 4-8kg rod OK? A few locals are suggesting 9-10ft rods? They seem a bit long for me. Thanks Evan

      G'day Evan! I used to live up that way at Lake Macquarie once upon a time, you'd definitely get Mulloway but from what I can recall the big Snapper were more found a little further offshore and not so much near the harbour.
      7'6 is about as long as I'd go, once you go longer it becomes harder to achieve balance in your outfit and it will tire you out faster due to the rod tip wanting to drop and having to try counteract that motion. Personally I like a fairly stiff and fast action rod in a 3-6kg class but a slower action 4-8kg will do the job. The NS Black Hole KN red I show in this video is perfect but they're discontinued and probably hard to find, I'd look for something like a Gomoku Spin Series or an Abu Garcia Veritas in the 4-8kg class. They're usually 7 foot long but they will cast a long way as long as you're using braid and not mono. Hope this helps 👍

      @jordythebassist thanks. What do you think of the Crucis Tempesta 752 Snapper Rods? Another option would be a second hand Shimano Raider 762 Snapper rod? Any advice much appreciated!

      @jordythebassist  6 місяців тому

      @evanroser1867 unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Crucis range, however the Raider range are excellent value for money. Originally designed by Ian Miller who is one of the most renowned rod builder in the country. The 762 Snapper may be a little bit too heavily rated at 5-8kg though, you might struggle throwing smaller soft plastics with it.
      The NS Black Hole range is worth a look as well if you can find them locally, excellent rods and great value for money. The Amped and Alpha ranges are worth a look for something in that 3-6kg or 4-8kg range.

    Hi, do you normally use 1/8 or 1/6 jighead for the W harbour

    • @jordythebassist
      @jordythebassist  Рік тому +1

      1/6oz is my preferred size simply for a bit of extra casting distance, but 1/8oz would be fine on lighter gear than I use. It's fairly shallow there.

    Nice video and fish being caught mate. I’ve set up my jetski to do some fishing (had boats but no garage space) so this is the best! I want to upgrade rods and reels from old 4500 bait runners and ugly sticks. What would you recommend? I’m thinking 7ft carbons and 3000’s something. Gimme some ideas? Cheers bro 👍🏼

    • @jordythebassist
      @jordythebassist  4 роки тому +1

      You're on the right track mate, 6'6 is probably a better idea given how close you will be to the water on the jet ski. A longer rod can get frustrating as the first 6-12 inches may want to dip below the surface and you'll have to be constantly pulling the rod tip up.
      3000 size reels are the go I reckon, especially if you want to try crack good reds. You could go down to 2500 on a 3-6kg though if you like, saves a couple dollars but will still pull a good red with some patience.

    Hey Jordy, appreciate your vids, subscribed couple days ago and looking forward to future videos from your channel.
    Just curious on your thoughts on how a 2-5kg rod would handle the size snapper you catch with same 3000 reel setup. I ask cause ive got a tcurve 2-5kg, 610 2pc rod and curious to know how a $280 rod though lighter would handle a snapper of the size you catch.
    Cheers.

      Hey mate, I would probably go down to a 2500 size reel on that rod as the 3000 has a considerable increase in drag. I have a Shimano Raider Lure Project in 2-5kg and I have been using a 1000 size reel on it. No reds yet but I hooked a giant stingray on it today and I was surprised how much I could move the ray. If you are patient during the fight then no worries with the light setups, just might be gambling on how the fish acts when it is close to the rocks as you won't have much pulling power left when it's at your feet

    G’day mate What tide times do you find are the best down there I’ve just moved to the area but haven’t had much luck yet I’m keen thought

    • @jordythebassist
      @jordythebassist  4 роки тому +1

      Hey mate, I find an hour either side of the tide change is a good time to try. High or low tide is irrelevant, however I've seen most of my fish during the day. Very little early in the morning or on dark

      @@thomasnardelli2181 I reckon it's going to be fishing well on Thursday as the forecast is for it to drop then, there may be some weed around there due to the easterly winds so just keep moving along the walls until you're casting in an area that's fairly clear of weed
