Thanks heaps for showing how it is done. For all you people commenting on his cool tools... my dad still makes dovetail boxes (same same!) with a hand saw.
For goodness sakes folks, be grateful for the tutorial.

Probably because people see this and think "damn if i have to buy all those tools to then also spend time and make a "DIY" light box, it would be better, less expensive, faster and easier to just buy a light box which costs 50 on Amazon".
When i see "DIY" in the title, i usually think about something i can create myself with what i have already at home, or at the very least, if i have to buy some materials (not tools) still staying in the less expensive area.

Great light box,one thing that should be avoided and this is from experience, don't use reflective shiny silver tape or sheets of foil etc, that will create direct reflective hot spots,
Use titanium white matt paint,or mylar black and white sheet, one side is black the other is white it can be bought in garden centers that sell Hp sodium indoor grow lights for hydroponics, thought the paint is easier to apply and does not run the risk of tearing or melting. The paint is over 90% reflective won't create hot spots from direct reflection,it allows light to spread in a more even fashion, for artwork.
I make printed circuit boards and need to align text layers after etching, the boards are fibreglass and are translucent allowing the copper to be seen to align text, component layout, hot and cold spots of light make this difficult ,even light spread must be achieved for accurate alignment of registration markers or pad placement alignment,so i have had issues and the best way to go is matt white ,the best is titanium matt white,no hot spots.

I doubt that you're still interested in this, or you've long since sorted it out already, but I have a custom made lightbox myself. I designed it and got my Grandad (with his fully kitted workshop - like in the video =P ) to construct it.
The way I designed it is that it has a lid, which is a separate piece, the shape of a right angled triangle that when placed beneath the box angles it towards you. There's a small lip on the lid to keep the box sat atop the lid too.

I like this project I made a light table awhile back but didn't have a UA-cam at the time but I built mine like a brief case and I use a battery operated light so I can take it on the go any use it anywhere. My box was all made from scraps the sides were ply wood and the top and bottom were parts to a 1920 piano. Al I purchased was the hardware and light. If you go to my channel and look at my wood working project video it's the wooden brief case. I made it to where I can remove everything and use it as a brief case as well.

+bmmcwhirt All that said there are some improvements you can make.
      1. Use real glass that is much harder to scratch.
      2. Super bright LED strips give more even light and almost never need replacing and are more energy efficient.
      3. Dovetail Joints don't loosen over time where even with glue box joints can.
Don't get me wrong the finished product is nice but you have a how to video that requires some specific expensive equipment and you don't go into how to do it without any of it. It's less of a how to and more of a look what I made.
It looks real nice but Glass top is really necessary for any vinyl or fisk work
