Tobin's brush review videos are simply the best
@@shaunprice2853 thanks Shaun!!
Agreed 💯
@@AdamBarbarathanks Adam!
Tobin, there are so many things that make you the 🐐. Among them are the exhaustive research you do combined with your honesty.
Thank you!
The Undisputed 🐐
Thanks Steve! I try, sometimes it pisses people off but that's their problem 😉
@@ChristopherDanielJonesthanks Chris😊
To thine own self be true has gotten you this far, great respect of the community, and very loyal viewers.
Do what you do how you do, Tobin.🤜🤛🙌
100% hes the GOAT as a result (IMO)
Thanks Lee! 🤗
@stagsandstap😊 les1127 thank you sir!
Great review Tobin! As always, I appreciate your honest reviews. Marketing always tells us the latest and greatest is best, but boy am I tired of being disappointed by that untruth. I do like a soft tipped brush, but if the performance isn't there, it's not worth it. Thanks for taking the time to test this out and share!
@@jeffdenker145 thanks Jeff! Well said, same here!
I hope you had a great holiday weekend!
Yet again a Thorough & Honest video. Thank you
Stole the words right out of my mouth Adam!
Thank you sir!
@ChuckDaCheese thanks Chuck!
FANTASTIC review!
Thank you kindly!
Just an excellent review, Tobin, thank you! Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Thank you!! Happy holidays!
Fantastic review Tobin, I had the test version of the brush and would say it is exactly the same experience as what you've described despite the test version having different specs.
@@dhruvshankar173 thank you! The fibers feel great, they just don't perform.
Have a good one!
Tobin! I'm getting caught up on content I like the snowy background with the reindeer intro!
Glad you like them!
Great review Tobin and I would not expect anything less. Being an engineer, I really appreciate the scientific approach you use in your hardware reviews. That aspect adds more credence, to me at least, for the review. Your reviews are not the sole factor as to whether I purchase an item but it does have a large input for me. “Never too many.”
Thank you very much! Its the kind of review i look for and appreciate.
Hope you're having a great weekend!
thanks for this informative review. I am a fan of Oumo's handle artistry, although they can be a bit pricey. good point on the shipping costs-it's somewhat of a deal killer.
@@garyroman3196 hey Gary, thank you! Oumo has a bunch of handles that I want. Like that Olive Wood 😍
Have a good one!
Thanks for your honest review as always. I love the st1 I got from Hendrix. I like brushes with some back bone. For then price I think just as you a bc PAA brush or a Simpson Trafalgar brush would be a better buy.
Me too, definitely needs a little backbone. This one is super soft, but thats the only real highlight.
Have a good one brother!
I love your honest critique, Tobin. This is one big reason your channel continues to grow.
I appreciate that, thanks Brian!
Interesting video. It really does makes sense for it to have a different model number, I agree, being it’s a very different beast.
Those Chubby handles look pretty awesome though! 👍
I will say this from my own experience setting knots, that almost every knot I’ve set to 50mm, is a “lather hog”.
There are even some knots I love set at 50mm for the punchy, explosive soap-whipping ability (shameless backbone fanboy/AP G5A YOU’RE MY BOY BLUE, ALWAYS AND FOREVER),🤣but then you realize it’s too much choke on the knot once you start trying to paint it on.
Flow-through is quite sensitive to loft settings near or a little below its minimum depth for me. It took me setting 3-5 knots using epoxy (that was foolish & wasteful, but I try to screw everything up at once, saves time in the future), 🥴 at extremely lackluster lofts to find its minimum depth, then fully discover, experience, understand and appreciate flow-through in every facet of its exquisite magnificence beheld in the loudest crescendo of its ideal loft setting, displayed by its maximum cream-a-riff-ic lather-whipping glory! 😂
I’m sure you do this when setting knots too, play with the loft for each and every knot/handle combo. I’ve gotta try every loft, play w/the knot a bit at each, see how it acts, sometimes 1mm makes a difference, sometimes not, but I gotta know either way! 😂
Flow-through was something I initially overlooked, the PAA Solar Flare unexpectedly showed me the beauty of it. I disliked this brush at first (always loved its looks though), but it did one thing noticeably better than my other brushes, it made my lather visibly more creamy than usual. I resented the Solar Flare for how long it took to whip soap, but my lather always came out amazingly creamy, so I couldn’t stay mad at it.🥴😂
From then on, I’ve made sure to consider every element of using a brush when setting the knot.
I also sometimes have different reasons to set knots certain ways too, say one knot has a unique standout feature that’s really neat. Then maybe I’ll set it different than usual to maximize this feature that it does best at THIS loft, vs my “norm”.
Apologies for being unable to summarize my thoughts, the struggle is real! 😂
Another great review, love your style brother! All the best! 🙏👍👊✌️
That was a great comment James I really enjoyed reading it 🙏
Thank you!
My experience is are very much in line with what you wrote in this comment.
Some people have taken this video as a negative review it's not intended to be negative I'm just trying to give the viewer an idea of what to expect if they spend their hard earn money on it and my intent is to share with people my positive experience with it and my negative experience with it and share with them how that might relate to their experience. Or at least give them an idea of what to expect.
These fibers are not anything like it's predecessor.
Have a good week!
Thanks Tobin and you’re welcome. I saw your review as honest, not negative, personally, but like you, I’ve bought, owned, tried, used and sold tons of brushes, so, I’ve definitely developed my own opinions & preferences too.
My things is, which I’m feeling from your review also, is that, I personally have ZERO use for a knot that is softer than a Cashmere or Nexus.
I’m not a face-latherer, I’m a bowl latherer and a recently converted scooper (thanks Tobin)!, I paint the lather on after whipping it up in a bowl first. My favorite of the softer knots would be an AP Faux Horse bulb, or my Faux Stoat bulb knot.
My shaving soap is also on the harder side, (it’s closer in hardness to triple-milled than a croap), so a super-soft brush isn’t the best match for it, either.
Having said all that, the type of knot I reach for most would be a G5A, B, C, Pure Bliss or a Silvertip Plissoft or my Silvertip Bliss-Soft. I prefer a knot w/more backbone, it only needs to be soft enough to not irritate my skin, so this range is the perfect combination of softness and backbone for me, so that’s where I’m coming from on the matter.
Have a good week too, brother!
Another awesome review Tobin! This is really helpful. Cheers! 🍻
Glad it was helpful! Thank you Francis!
Straight-up! For sure they should have used a different name, because it will cause confusion and for sure it will cost them money. Returns, complaints, it's just asking for problems. This might be one that I would try, but it's out of my reach for just a knot and it might actually be too floppy for me. I've run into all these things in paint brushes too and in all price points. Just like lather, I've had super soft brushes that won't release the paint. Geez at that kind of price I'd just be looking at badger knots instead. Great review, you really put in the time with this one and it shows in your run-down on it. Have a great week bro!
Being that you like the Pure Bliss as much as you do Id be surprised if you did like this one.
But if you like a variety like I do then I could see how you would like it.
I look at brushes like I do tools and a tool bag You need to have one for every job. And when it comes to a soft luxurious massaging face feel this brush definitely delivers.
I'm thinking I need a new scoop btw😊
Hope you're having a good one brother
@@Tobins_throwbacks I might like it, but that's some crazy money and I'd just pick up a knot or two from AP Shaveco. Sure just let me know! I'm working on a really cool gamer scoop for Bary!
Thanks for sharing your feedback on the ST-2. I think I’m going to stay with the ST-1; I’ve really been enjoying the 3 I have now.
Thanks Lee! I hope you had a great weekend my brother
I thing st 2 is better for me! You make great job!
Thank you! If you're looking for a softer fiber it's definitely the better option. Have a good one!
Love the series! Thanks for keeping it real like always!
@@johnjaeger9148 thank you sir! I get blow back from Artisans for doing it, but it won't stop me.
It means a lot to know the video is useful and appreciated. (Sincerely)
Thanks John!!!
This knot sounds an absolute flopmaster of a knot. Is it actually practical?
Yeah it is practical, in the same way that a silver tip is. Nice gentle massage and super soft. It's just not what I'm looking for in a $50 "new" synthetic.
Noticed right away, the knot was way too soft, like passing a wet mop on your face, and it takes a lot of time to dry because it doesn't release the water.
Right? Sounds like you have one? And you have had a similar experience?
Thanks brother Hope you had a good weekend
@Tobins_throwbacks thanks Tobin, had a great time in the lake earlier. Yes, I got one, I like soft knots, but the ST2 took it way too far l. I'm still gonna use it, of course. But I'm gonna get an ST1 later on.
What Adam said! And I'll add thanks 🐐 😊
I just bought the ED ST-1, glad I didn’t buy the ST-2. I really should watch reviews before purchasing instead of after. 😂
Lol I do the same thing sometimes 🤣 have a good one!
I wonder why they dont have a NA vendor 🤔
Well here is question what is you top Synthetic Knot Frank’s G9 v/s OUMO ST 1 Dense?
Awful review honestly
Thanks for watching! If you want to review it and show me how it's done I'd be happy to watch.
Every channel has its trolls 😅 Tobin is the 🐐 , move a long troll. You made your account a week ago lol
@bigbadwolfable because I lost my phone, I ain't a troll. But I disagree with the review, I watched it because it sent me here while listening to music on Chrome. Do you can understand why I'm a bit annoyed lol
@@NevinWarrior-x1z ok, well like Tobin said. Record a review of the brush that isn't awful.
So, if you disagree with a review it's awful? But if you agree with it, it's great?
How is his review awful??? If you're not a troll you'll have a logical answer...
Is it softer than motherlod knots?
Yeah, slightly. And less backbone, considerably less.
@@Tobins_throwbacks thx
You bet!
Sometimes newer is not better.
🐐 - Thanks for the honest review. I knew when you gave the first impressions video I could tell you were a little disappointed 🥲.
Thanks Alex, yes sir 😐 I had high hopes of an improved ST1. I feel like they took a step backwards.
Have a good one brother!
