    You are doing it the proper way man.
    Instead of bashing you want to educate and fix the issue. I hope someone somewhere a subaru will eventually see your videos and revise how they apply silicon

    Agreed, thats an easy fix but if you do decide to hard track this vehicle, you're in for the oil starvation issue/oil pressure drop problems.

    Great job keeping this issue on the forefront! Unfortunately I believe you are correct when you say they probably won't do anything. Until they are being sued in class action or being forced to by the government they won't change their processes, the margins of people suffering failure due to this is still too low. The question is going to be once these engines have 50k+ miles on them how many failures are we going to see do to clogged pick ups? Once more of the average, daily drivers start getting slammed we may see something happen.

    • @CMAutohaus

      Good point. Once these engines get close to the 60k service, what will we see?

    Hey, I just did a pan drop at 1200 miles with a manufacturing date 2023.12 GR86, it seems they revised the RTV application, the RTV width seems a lot narrower and we didn't see any RTV residue left within the pan.

    • @wagjkproduction755
      @wagjkproduction755 7 місяців тому +3

      also nothing in the oil pick-up tube it seems. This could be a good news to all the new owners!

    • @CMAutohaus
      @CMAutohaus  7 місяців тому +2

      Sometime in MFD 5/23 or 6/23 I believe there was a manufacturing change: light grey (instead of dark grey) RTV, and less of it applied at the lower oil pan. I'm not convinced as the sample size of late 23's we've dropped oil pans on, I think only one was relatively clean

    • @CMAutohaus
      @CMAutohaus  7 місяців тому +1

      Did a shop did this for you as I highly doubt there was absolutely nothing that got trapped in the pick up tube screen. @@wagjkproduction755

      @@CMAutohaus a shop did it for me but I was right by and checked the pan and screen myself. Really saw nothing there, and no residue inside the pan either. Like you said light grey RTV. I didn’t snap a pic at the screen but have a photo what the pan looks like I can share with you

    There was recently a study proving via oil pressure that the RTV did little to no affect.
    I autocross the shit out of mine. My suggestions are run a heavier oil, overfill, and change frequently.

    • @jagymeister
      @jagymeister 7 місяців тому +3

      I agree. I run 5w30, +0.5L and I keep an eye on oil temps. And change oil often.

      Bingo

    • @CMAutohaus
      @CMAutohaus  7 місяців тому +4

      Oil pressure is only part of the story
      -You can run 1-2qts TOTAL of oil in many Subaru engines and it will build adequate pressure (oil pressure light will never illuminate)
      -RTV can still make it past the strainer and block internal oil passages and the interval cam carrier filters
      -No one has tested loss of oil volume from a blocked strainer
      -Many have suggested the strong possibility of oil cavitation due to RTV blocking the pick up.
      -Engines should NOT be sealed with an excess amount of RTV greater than specified, this is a factory assembly issue

    I’m curious, does Porsche boxer engines use RTV to seal everything like Subaru? Having resealed my 2011 FB25 with RTV, it’s such a hassle to get it not to leak working in an oily mess. Sealing that huge chain cover not to leak at all is just something god awful.

    So would this be considered a 'better' manufactured GR86? Or are those big dark gray RTV chunks more detrimental rather than smaller light gray chunks?

    • @CMAutohaus
      @CMAutohaus  7 місяців тому +1

      MFD 10/23 This is "supposed" to be the one with all the updates. I'd be more concerned about the smaller and skinny pieces than can make it past the oil strainer

    I worked for Subaru for two years and I can almost guarantee they wont do anything. The build quality has gone to hell, and Subaru doesn't care about the BRZ/86 at all. Every subaru rolling off the assembly line now needs the cam carriers resealed by 100,000 miles (in many cases earleir than 80k), at least two wheel bearings have been done by 75k, and the front control arm bushings may as well be scheduled service at 60k, and 3/4 of the OB, legacy, and foresters need a DCM. Every car I checked in I could give a repair recommendation on the drive becuase they all had the same symptoms resulting from the same problems day in and day out. Hell, the customers usually knew what the problem was because one google search showed 100+ results for what caused their concern and it was the same thing in every case. I'm so glad to be out of there because the poor product made it an awful work environment due to every customer being fed up with the recurring problems.
