I have an Active Target paired with an Elite9 display unit. All the hardware (except the actual transducer) is mounted to a shuttle, which also houses it own 32 amp Lithium battery. The transducer is mounted to a dedicated pole which attaches to the boat hull with a 1.5 inch Ram ball mount. The huge plus for this set up is; simply by having an extra ball mount on my other boat, I can quickly move my entire setup, from boat to boat. As well as use this same setup for ice fishing.
I don’t like the look of having additional mounts on the front of my boat and a pole lying on my deck with my rods . I would prefer a pole mount attached to my trolling motor.
How are you liking the Active Target 2 after spending some more time with it, does it have any benefits over the Garmin for seeing fish or is the Garmin really that much better?thanks! I have the AT1
Great video Brett ! What do you think of the Sniper Pole system ? I’m running a FS pole also but I’m seriously looking at that Sniper Pole setup and they’re working with FS so you can use your FS mount plate ! 👍
I have a SeeLite 2.0 pole mount LiveScope and it is great for: SpotLock Running Tracks Having the pole in the water when trolling with big engine Would be nice to be able to rock the foot control if transducer was on the Trolling Motor but on a Riptide MinnKota Ulterra that automatically stows and deploys, the cable could get pinched and that would suck! I have the Cornfield Crappie LiveScope mount for trolling motor but have not tried it. I have a different transducer on the trolling motor and the motor has pinched the cable several times. Not cool! Main reason for the Ulterra is all the saltwater I fish. Electric foot pedals vs cable driven stink! The SeeLite 2.0 has been pretty good in SpotLock even in 3mph current and when trolling just under 4mph. Be well.
If it’s a money issue to install o pole mount to the side of your boat over a trolling motor mount then don’t buy a livescope. Do it your way, but I’m a pole mount person. Made my own for under $50. If I mounted it to the trolling motor I believe I would experience over $500.00 worth of labor headaches and frustration trying to keep my livescope on target. It’s not that much work to lift your trolling motor and a pole mount into the boat. I’m set up to move my livescope from the port or starboard side of boat. It’s about searching for fish, not money or convenience. Keep it simple. Put in what you want? But it’s a pole mount on my boat!
Look on UA-cam. There is dozens of good videos to search for. Pole mounts are fairly cheap. I got a lithium battery for the power to the Garmin unit. I understood they use or draw down your starter battery. I got a Amped model 30 amp hours. $200 is all. And a charger for $20. Good luck. 👍
Trolling motors are already heavy enough. Guys are losing performance on their boats running lithium batteries . Because there is to much weight on the front of the boat.
Great job Brett on the explanations!

The Sniper Marine poles are very nice. Jon runs one on his kayak and highly recommends it!

How do you run your wires for a trolling motor mount on an ultrex with spot lock ?

Would love to see how you made your own. Most pole mounts mounted on the trolling motor that I’ve seen are to complex or add to much weight.

Hard pass on a pole.
To each their own!
