    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

      I personally would go straight to the gt56. My other videos show the difference between the two and it’s pretty substantial.
      The gt56 will give you many more options and do many more things than the 54.

    Thanks for a great instructional video on networking the Garmin units. I have an Echomap Ultra 2 106SV on the front of my boat which I am hooking to a Livescope Plus LVS34. I have an older Echomap UHD 73 SV on the console. The older unit has one network (CAT) port and the newer unit on the front has two network ports. I have a couple of questions: #1 Do I have to do anything to set up the network other than hooking the network (CAT 5) cables? #2 If I hook the transducer (GT56UHD-TM) to the older unit on the counsole will it limit the quality of the image on the 106SV up front vs hooking the transducer to the 106SV directly? I think I understand that the Livescope imaging should appear on both screens. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Is there something I need to change on the unit before connecting, or are they not compatible?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  9 місяців тому

      Hi Kevin,
      Either they need to be updated or the older screen isn’t compatible. It had to be a plus or newer to network.
      Being that it’s a 2017, it’s either a plus or a chirp. The plus will be touchscreen, the chirp will not. The chirp won’t network.

    I just networked a 93SV Plus w/GT-52 (bow) and a 73SV UHD w/GT-54 (Console). When cruising the 93 is stowed the 73 will use its built in GT-54, however when the 93SV is on and in the water both it and the 73 will use the GT-52 for Down and Traditional sonar and the 54 for side view. I believe this helps with keeping the SideVu cleaner. My question is which setting should I use for each scenario, meaning lower or higher bandwidth? My thinking is to use a lower frequency when cruising and using the GT-54 to catch a larger area and a higher one when using the 93 when on the bow to get a stronger signal albeit smaller area. Is this what you would do or would you suggest doing something different. I typically fish no deeper than about 40-5- feet deep.
    One last question is regarding the TM mounted GT-52 in order for the preferred transducer switch to happen I have to turn the 93 off, I've tried putting it to sleep but the 73 still see's it but there isnt a signal. Any thoughts on how to do this differently so I dont have to wait for it to boot up when I get to my honey hole? Thanks for the input!

    • @MGMarineTech

      Simple. I have a video that goes over this exact scenario and goes into more detail as to why I recommend what I do etc . (Called: Quick tip!! Big screen at the bow or console?? )
      But what I always recommend in most cases is to run the best side imaging unit at the console. This almost always means the bigger unit. (Especially between the 93 and the 106)
      Put the 93 at the bow, and mount the livescope wherever you are going to fish from and network them all as described in this video. And the 106 at the console.
      Side imaging will cover more water faster and allow you to find that productive water or structure faster. Once you find it pop the livescope in to verify.

I am helping another older gentleman, who knows less than me, setup his new/used 20’ fishing pontoon in Michigan. We picked up a Garmin EchoMap 73SV package with the GT54UHD transducer.
    We would like to put up a less expensive but network compatible from Garmin, on the bow, with the transducer on the trolling motor.
    If you have time could you answer these questions or guide me where I could find out.
    1- Will the EchoMap 73SV network connect via ethernet CAT5 to a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 53cv 5" Chartplotter with GT20-TM Transducer (they are on sale for $249)?
    2- If the answer is yes to #1, then can this interoperability work:
    A- Would the 53CV be able to pull up way points from the 73CV via the network? If so then can the 53CV be able to ‘route to’ those way points it got from the 73CV?
    B- Can the 53CV, also connect to the GT54UHD transom mounted side-scan transducer, via the 73CV ? If so, can the 53CV also display the side scan image like it can on the 73CV?

      The marine network cables come in different lengths, but can be found by googling “garmin marine network cable” or by contacting my buddies over at Hennessy outdoor electronics, they can get you setup with everything you need to network. The 6’ cable is part number 010-10550-00
      As far as the units you are going to run. 1 73 and 2 93’s, I would highly recommend putting 1 of the 93’s at the console for better side imaging. You will want the larger screen possible for side imaging etc.
      As far as the built in transducer on the terrova it will require 2 adapters to hook it up to a garmin. A 12 to 8 pin and a 8 pin to 4 pin. That being said I would put a gt54 on the bottom of it to gain the side/down and better 2d. The only issue you might run into is interference when the trolling motor is on. (Working on a video on how to get rid of interference)
      Now for powering everything.. you will have at least 3 batteries. 2 for the trolling motor (and they should ONLY power the trolling motor THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!) and 1 “house/starting battery that is responsible for powering everything else. Here is the catch… your house/crank battery is going to have a lot of things drawing off of it (3 screen 1 live scope, bilge, stereo etc,etc) meaning you will either have to get the biggest battery you can fit or go with better technology so that you don’t end up stranded on the water.
      You have a couple of options here.
      1 you could add a designated battery only for your sensitive electronics (anything that touches the garmin units) this battery could be another lead acid or go with a lithium (lithium is highly recommend)
      2 you could replace your one house/start battery with a big lithium designed to start motors etc ( you have to make sure you have proper voltage going to the lithium while the engine is running so that it charges properly)
      I usually recommend that you just add a dedicated battery just for the electronics.
      WHICHEVER you do DO NOT leave the 3 bank charger connected to the battery that is powering the garmin units. 9/10 they will cause interference through the trolling motor. You will have to disconnect both power and ground. This can be easily accomplished with a single throw double pole switch inline for the 3rd bank of the charger.
      I hope that helps

    Awesome video, forgive me if I missed this or didn't catch it somewhere in your video. I have two 93vs UHDs and a livescope. I mounted one of my 93s on the console with its transducer running to the transom. The other unit will be mounted on the bow and the included transducer will be put on the trolling motor. I will run the livescope off of a different DIY mount along the side. I plan to run the livescope from the black box to the front 93. Can I still network the two 93s together? What connector will I need?
    Thanks

      Hey AJ, you absolutely can. If you look at 7:36 that example will be what you need to do. It will show two 93’s and live scope. The only difference will be that you will have two transducers which won’t affect networking.
      You will need the gms-10 to connect the two 93’s and live scope.
      But once they are you will be able to use any transducer on any screen including live scope

      No problem at all, this is why I created this channel was to help.
      To further clarify, you will need the GMS-10 and 2 networking cables (live scope should have its own) Give my friends over at Hennessy outdoor electronics a shout and they will be able to get you hooked up with anything you need!

      @@MGMarineTech One other question along these lines... I hear all the time that you need a dedicated battery to run the livescope so I bought a Dakota 23AH battery. Should I use that battery just for the livescope power supply or can I use it for my bow mounted 93 and the gms-10? It is easier to get power from the other batteries for the bow mounted 93 if you don't think that will cause issues.

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  4 роки тому +1

      So there are a couple of reason that people run a dedicated power supply for their live scope. 1 it’s “clean” power to reduce the chance for interference etc. and 2 the live scope can be a battery hog. So a dedicated battery assures you won’t be stranded on the water.
      You very well could use it for the for the live scope and bow mounted unit and gms-10 just the more that’s running off of it the faster it will drain.
      I personally run all of my sensitive electronics (graphs etc) off of a dedicated battery. This helps achieve the clearest picture and reliable voltage all day.

    Great video! Are there any Garmin units that will run the Panoptix livescope LVS12 transducer alone without the GLS 10 black box? And if I'm only running 2 units, would I need the network hub or just network cable between the 2 units?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  3 роки тому

      I believe the ultra units will run the LVS12 without a black box.
      As for just 2 units all that is needed is a cable.
      If it’s 2 units and live scope you will need a hub (depending on the units you have as the ultras have 2 network ports)

    Your video is great and really helps explain this simply! It also gives me something to consider-using these units as a system versus stand alone. I'm in process of upgrading console and bow units. Current console unit doesn't have gps/maps and bow unit (striker 7cv) doesn't work with future plans for livescope, so I just bought the echomap uhd 93sv for bow as it will work for normal chartplotter for now and be a good unit for livescope in the future. That leaves me still no navigation capability at the console. I have opportunity to pickup a used echomap 73sv for around $350. If I'm looking for a budget friendly way to get map/nav at the console, and have it network with the 93sv up front, do you think this is a good solution or is there a less expensive way to go? When I get the livescope transducer, I will need to get the network expander, or as you've shown, possibly get a 10" unit or so for livescope at the bow, and move the 93sv to the console. I don't want to waste the 350 now if I'm going to replace it in the future. Thoughts on this? Thanks for your time and I just subscribed!

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Brian! Thank you for subscribing!
      As long as the 73sv is touch screen (plus/uhd) you won’t have any issues networking those two . I’m not positive if all the “chirp” models are able to network.
      As far as a cheap route. That 73sv would be a decent option Once they are networked.
      As far as upgrading the screens later I would definitely look into the ultra units. 1 you won’t need a network hub, and 2 they are a much better unit for side imaging etc.
      That being said, I would keep the 93 up front for live scope and use the 106 at the console as its much better at side imaging etc.

      @BrianTNovak 4 роки тому

      @@MGMarineTech Thanks for the response. I don't think the 73sv unit I'm referring to is touchscreen as it has all the up/down buttons and menu keys on the side, but is does have the panoptix port in the back. How would I find out for sure if this could be networked to the uhd93sv?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  4 роки тому +1

      Brian for that one I would give garmin support a call. They are super helpful with that.
      I’m fairly confident that it will still work being that it has the panoptix port. And if I’m not mistaken I have heard of others networking units like that.
      I just would hate for you to buy it and not do what you want.
      The other option is to keep your eyes open for a 93sv plus. Those can typically be had for 400-500$
      I have one I might be posting but only if I can find a deal on a 93 uhd to replace it.
