Wasted 2 hours yesterday trying to feed those ladder cord ends back into the bottom rail and line them up with the slots in the buttons to hold them tight. Just spent 7 minutes watching you use needle nose pliers and NOT trying to match up the ladder cord ends with the slots in the buttons. You just saved me from seriously considering suicide. I can now go back to my friends' house and shorten the remaining blinds and not look like a complete idiot in the process. Levolor needs to update its "picture" instructions to include those 2 very important install hints. Thanks, buddy!
This video is genius! I bought 3 Levalor blinds that needed to be shorted a lot and the instructions that came with them is useless! Matter-of-fact I spent all morning trying to do what they said and broke all three buttons and what a mess! But somehow after hours of struggling and frustration, I salvaged that one. After I watched this video I was able to do the other 2 in about 30 minutes! You need to contact Levalor and offer to sell this video to them!
Thanks, this is perfect! The manufacturer's video instructions would have had me ruining my blinds, terrible instructions. So glad I found yours. Worked perfectly for me and your advise on the length to leave the blinds was perfect.
Videos should be made like this, detailed oriented, any lay person can follow it and then act on it.Thanks for making the video i am going to try it next week, have 6 windows to do.
I think you must've been listening in on my conversation with my wife. Bought blinds for the house we're remodeling two days ago and we were trying to figure out how to shorten the blinds... then this video popped up. Thanks for sharing! I've used a few of your tips recently and it's been a life saver.
Omg! Thank you so much… I was going to replace my blinds, it was going to cost me $75 to replace…. I decided to give you a try, and I couldn’t be more grateful…. Thank you now I will just get a perfume…😜
You saved my blinds from the official video’s attempts to blind me with their stringy, curt video that was just too light on the details (puns intended); the difference is night and day. In all seriousness, the Levolor instruction video should DEFINITELY NOT appear first in the search results as it pales in comparison to your clear, concise and handy tips that have all the right strategies and explanations. Thank you!
I ruined two buttons trying to pry them out…and then I found your video. So much easier. Mine were a tad tight for my arthritic hands, so I supported the underside with a 3/4” socket and tapped it out with a hammer and flat punch. I made sure to avoid the strings inside. Thanks for the great tips!
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel thanks to your video, I was able to adjust custom lengths to many blinds around my house. It’s been bothering me for years!
Thank you so much! I was getting confused on how to do the buttons! Another tip I can give to y'all is if you have a convertible screwdriver (change out different heads), take out the head and press the empty body into the button cavity (where you would push in the button), hold the bottom to stabilize it and push down! It worked so well to get the buttons out
This is great! Ty! So I noticed there's some long strings tying those buttons inside, that's just so they'll hang as to keep you from losing the buttons right?
I think so... If I remember right you can cut off any excess string you don't need. Be careful in doing that and make sure not to cut anything to short or cut anything that is still needing to be long! Just whatever was excess. It's been a minute since I did one of those, so I can't remember off the top of my head.
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel I looked again and now I think I may have been talking bout the lift strings lol but yeah I'll be very sure before doing anything I can't undo. Thanks for the quick reply!
I removed the two lift cord's knot, then removed some slats and the bottom piece (maybe I shouldn't have roved the bottom piece?) now I can't find the lift cord...where dit it go? All I have now are the ladders hanging. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?
HI, without being able to see it I can't say what happened.. My only suggestion would be if you have a 2nd one that is in tact try to copy what they have done and that should get it back working again.
It looks so easy, but my Levolor blinds have the tension cord running right through a tiny hole in the slat on both sides. Is there a fix for that? Thank you!!
What did you do with the excess pull cord? Did you tuck it into the bottom slat? Will that work? Also, my pull cord goes through a hole on the two side set of strings. It seems I have to get to the end of the cord to remove the excess slats.
I seem to remember cutting off most of it once I figured out how long I needed it, and then tucked the rest away. But it's been a couple of years so I don't remember exactly..
Did I miss something? You didn't mention what to do with the other two strings that are not to be cut but too long after removing the slats and cutting the ladders. Excellent details on everything else.
Great video, I would just add that the buttons can be stuck in too much so that prying them out with a screwdriver breaks the outer edge of the button and they wouldn’t come out using my thumb from inside the channel. Solution was to tap them out using a small (1/4” x 1”) piece of wood and a hammer. Thanks again for a very useful video !
I just bought some Levolor cordless blinds and in the optional instructions sections it reads THESE BLINDS CANNOT BE SHORTENED DUE TO THE CORDLESS OPERATING SYSTEM. Anything different from 9/21 to now? Asking for the future. I already used the new blinds at a window where they fit fine. Took the older corded blinds and moved them to the window to replace the busted blinds. Those I know how to shorten those. Thanks.
Wow, I didn't know that. I haven't had an occasion to install those recently. I wonder if there are different models and you got ones that are different than mine?
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel The blinds I have are aluminum. Model number #929770. When compared to my old corded blinds, I really do not see a difference in the set up.
@@justmythought1586 Yea so I found them on Lowes website and sure enough one of the reviews said there were no shortening instructions in the instructions. So they called customer service and they told them these "can not be shortened". So I haven't seen what the newer models look like. The ones in the video were model 929839 which are an all vinyl faux wood. So yours are apparently a different model, although I'm not sure what the strings look like and how they differ from mine.
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel I called Levolor. I was told that as soon as I cut the cord, it would shoot up towards the mechanism at the top releasing all the blinds. The only module that can be cut are the faux wood ones. To keep the same kind of blind, I would have to special order to fit a particular size of window.
@@justmythought1586 Wow... good to know. The faux wood ones are the ones I used in the video. They should at least make a note of it in the instructions so nobody tries that. Thanks for the info.
I’m having trouble removing the buttons. I tried several devices but the rim around the buttons cracked as if dry rotted. Called Levolor and they are aware of the button problem. I was advised to return the blind for another pair. However, I’m concerned about the next set 😮.
Interesting... I haven't heard of that problem. I suppose you could open the box in the store and try it before you let them cut them down to your window size. They won't accept returns after they've cut them..
HI, I can't say for sure. I've never tried that. I suppose you might run into a problem with the weighting of the blinds since cutting more than 24 will lighten the load quite a bit... I'm not sure what other problems you might run into.
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel no problem I’m a maintenance technician and had to shorten some Allen and Roth blinds which are similar but different than levelers.
Getting the buttons out is not nearly as hard as getting them back in. Threading the cords up into the hole is not a problem. Getting the cords into the grooves in the button so that it fits back into the hole is impossible! If not in the grooves, the cords take up too much room so that the buttons will not go back into the holes. Any suggestions or secrets? I've done everything else necessary for 11 sets of blinds (various sizes), thanks to your video, but I cannot get the buttons back into the holes properly. I've got to go back to finish the job - hoping for instructions or "master" secrets. Your cords are not exactly aligned into the grooves, but you don't have trouble getting yours into the hole with little effort. Mine are only fitting back in the hole if the cords are in the grooves. Everything has gone smoothly.
HI, Sometimes these jobs can be tedious! No doubt that's what those grooves are for, but seems like to key is to not allow the cord to be bunched up to bad and they should flatten out when you push it back in. I'm sure it's a matter of trial and error.... which of course after 11 sets of blinds you've already done!
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel Thanks! I've tried holding them taut after threading them up through the hole, which may help a tiny bit but hard to do while trying to keep the blind from coiling back upwards. This is at a rental property - I'll have to go back over there to attack it again today or tomorrow. Some seem to pop in easily - others not going back in at all. I may take a file and try to file down the button just enough to make it fit? Getting the cords into the grooves while fighting the pull of the blind and holding the cords taut is frustrating and time-consuming. I was hoping you had a secret to success! Those that I've completely finished look great! Your video was the best I found - short, to the point. With lots of slats to remove, I did find that cutting the horizontal ladder cords first was the easiest way to remove all the slats at one time. They fall on each other in a stack and are easily removed as you move down the ladder. A big time-saver.
@@rebeccabee123 Yes I'd have to see it but there's probably a way to modify it to fit better. Sometimes I have to do that kind of stuff.... If it won't fit, make it fit! Within reason of course and without breaking it... 😊
Hi, very easy. There are little grooves cut into the slats where the strings come down... The slats will very easily pull out from the side, either left or right. You just have to work the slats around the strings where the grooves are and slide in a new slat... Hope that helps... 😀
