Song by Tiny Harris
Title: Endless Black Ribbon
To all the truckers who knows the realness of this song and the life we choose to move the goods across this country. In memory of my dad and uncles who traveled an endless black ribbon.
Put together by deanr50 (thumper) I to shared the long days and nites, my heart goes out to those who are still driving.
I am a truck driver's daughter. I miss my dad everyday that he is gone. I worry about him during bad weather. I tip my hat to all you truckers out there. Keep the greasey side down and the shiny side up!
Thank you, that means so much to us.
@@harley-ic6qg you're welcome. I know that trucking is no cake walk by anymeans.
Always 🤠

Great song,thanks for sharing
Folks, that is my dad, Liston (Lucky) Beal on the steel. Only song he did that I am aware of that was recorded. He used to play with Buck Owens, George Jones before he was known, The Maddox brothers and Rose, and others from the early to mid 50's.
+Larry Beal That's very very cool. One of the best steel recordings I've ever heard.
As a steel player myself, I am captivated by the tone of this guy's guitar and his playing style on this recording.
Sounds like a very early Emmons push-pull played through a nice old tube amp.
I love the steel sound he did, be proud of your ol man he was great
I've always wondered who it was. Superb, tasteful playing........
Hi Larry - you don't know me, but Tiny Harris was my grandfather's brother. I've just recently learned of who he is and I'm trying to find out more about the music he wrote and who he was. Maybe you have more information since apparently your father played with him? Hopefully you'll get this, it's been 4 years since your comment, but I'd love to chat if you're willing. Thanks.
this is 49 years looking at the endless black road makes me so sad that it is all most over.
This retired Smokey misses you old timer truckers. Thank you for your service Sir!
This song carries a lot of memories for me too. Glad you enjoyed and thank you for your comment.
33 years no slowing down on my old bones
I am saddend to hear that Tiny is no longer with us. I have had this song in my music collection for many years and it still stands at the top of my trucker songs. So very smooth and real to life story. I drove truck from 1955 til 2001. My prayers go to Tiny's family.
OUR UNCLE DROVE A TRUCK FOR OVER 30 PLUS YEARS HE WAS GONE A LOT BUT HE WOULD GIVE US KIDS RIDES WHEN HE WAS HOME I MISS HIM LOTS
My daddy retired n 2000, but b4 that he was a trucker 45 + yrs 😶 He was gone a lot, but when he was home, we had quality time 2gether 💖 Love u daddy; Jim "Rolling Stone" Raney 💖
My husband used to call me from a WATTS line at 3 AM to tell me to listen to Charley Douglas ROad Gang.He dedicated the song "Truck Driver's Queen" to me
I like to know more about Tiny. What was his real name? When and where was he born? Did he have children, etc? For some reason I can't explain, I couldn't find any info on Tiny on the internet.
To Tiny's family, I grew up in the trucking industry, My dad and Uncles traveled a lot of endless black ribbons. Our country's roadways of old not the new interstates.
I picked a casette copy at a thrift in Bullhead City with the label saying 8-Track on it - Long live 8-Tracks! - a compilation of trucking songs, with Endless Black Ribbon included. I had a Class I back in the 70's but I was nevr any good. 15 years ago because I was urged to, I got a pedal steel, its a Rus-ler. I hope I'll get better at it than ever I was at driving the trucks. What I actually wanted to say is when I heard EBR on the tape I was absolutely mesmerized by the sound of the steel playing. I can't get it out of my head..nor the guitar. But I am trying to find the grips he used, and figure out the slides. I guess it's easier if you know the instrument well enough to call yourself a player. Beautiful! (I never heard Lucky's name till I found your post here, Thanks.)
It sounds like he's using two-string grips on strings 3&4 with the B&C pedals starting at the 12th fret and sliding down to the 19th to get those beautiful singing notes. The very first intro notes are played on the first four strings, 12th fret, no pedals, then strings 3,4,5 with B pedal, E lever. Just work with those positions and you should be able to come up with something. Whenever I hear this intro, John Hughey's playing style always comes to mind.
+Dallas Cheked ..don't think I can name a sweeter sample of steel playing than right here. Amazing integration with the overall layers of the recording, utilizing single note melodic ideas, and falling back on the whispery tears. He just felt it all. I wonder what his process looked like. Thanks for the tips, I'll go sit down now and try it..since I can't find the pecans I thought we had to make the butter pecan ice cream. Life is full of disappointments that can turn into some great songs!
+Mary Robertson PS: Yours truly, Scrunchy MacScruff..and I don't how how my family has tolerated me and my addictions all these years!
This is so much about my parents. I can so remember our Daddy would call on Wednesday nights to talk briefly to Mom as calling long distance was so expensive. Us sisters (teenagers) were NOT allowed to be on the phone that night - no call waiting or cell phones then. I'm sure when he did call, she was wishing he was on his way home but he was a true trucker.........
Larry Beal you should be proud man.
I grew up listening to all these songs because my dad drove.
This was my mom and dad favorite song
Great song. I ve listen to these great songs since i was a lil kid from the radio of a cabover KW. I would like to thank you deanr50 for putting this song on here. Tiny Harris was my grandfather's cousin and I absolutely love this song.
He wound up selling used cars in,Ukiah California
I know he just passed away in the past few months. You would probably have to do a search on him and see what else he had recorded.
I've got 2 ex wives that wouldn't care much for this, but who cares? Its one of the best.
I agree with you......it was really good and even though my truck driver has gone on to that hiway in the sky I love all these songs.
Folks My Dad Chuck Goodspeed pushed a big rig for 50 years. I sure miss ya pop.But now moms with ya so that makes me smile. God bless
Stay in school.
I listen to a lot of CB both 27mhz and gmrs, and there is a gmrs network called the roadkill network and there’s a few truckers I like to listen to. It gets interesting at times. And this music goes good with it too. I love it
My favorite truckin' song. Thanks for sharing.
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lots of miles between St. Louis and Tulsa...little truck. lots of whisky and beer...trouble.
It seemed like there was something off about those first pictures, then I realized they're CGI. 😁
Once you get Trucking in your Blood, it never leaves
I know the feeling!!😊 After being in truck driving two years plus, I could never imagine doing anything else but. Then again, I think I was born with trucking in my blood. I've loved trucks since I was a little kid---and it didn't matter how boyish everyone thought it was. Best wishes, and keep the shiny side up!👍👍
Started at 17 years old drove for company local long haul owner operator for 14 years had to give it up hearing test failed me but dam it still in my blood
Nice, will appear as my "TRUCKING SONG' ON MY RADIO SHOW. Thanks mate.
Started with the album, and this one of my favourites, frae 1979, when I got the bug, test passed in 83, drove for nearly 3 decades before moving over to cranes. Just gave the ticket up, annual medicals from next month, and the CPC just ruined the job as I couldnt just drive when I wanted to without spending the money on "training". kept saying to folk, ye might miss me and the guys one day, but I'll no be there! Now I'm singing John Denver, " This old farm seems like a long lost friend...Take care out there guys, yer all needed.
Tiny was my brother!
This song reminds me of the Charlie Douglas Road Gang WWL.

i miss my rig
I love this song ❤️❤️
Thanks, glad you enjoy the video.
deanr50 I've still got a copy of the tape that had Tiny's Endless black ribbon on it someplace. My mother lived in Bullhead City , Arizona. I went out to visit and we ended up going to a club in Las Vegas for an evening out and Tiny and his band were playing on stage that night. he had just recorded that song and when they got ready to take their break, I called the waitress and invited Tiny and his band to our table for a drink. I went on the stage with my mothers guitar and did a song with them and my mother took pictures which I treasure to this day. I always tried to remember his lead players name but I'm getting old now and have CRS. Wonderful memories of a good time.
The kE2DK is my ham license. just type it in the internet and my name should come up.
