Bill is one of my favourite drummers too, and I've seen him many times. I've tried this grip to limited success, but you've nailed it because I can really hear the difference.
Thanks for the explanation, good job! I vote too, for a hi hats session, especially how to deal with irritating very high frecuency overtones and how do you fix them. I have a pair of Zildjian New beats 14" with those problems and other pair of Amedia Cymbals, the same.
I always figured that he tightened the shit out of the wing nuts, and love those shoulder-shot accents! It’s interesting that in your demonstration, the click-grip actually draws more dark harmonics from the cymbal’s spread.
That VF SD4 model also really enhances that modulation via grip tightness and the woody quality of a cymbal in general, maybe more than a hickory stick might do ....
@@Reverie_Cymbals_Drums I had no idea when I asked that you had the sizes and weights in the video , let alone that YOU MADE THEM ! Unbelievable . So impressive . Wondering if you could make my16'' Sabian marching band cymbal into a crash for playing rock music . It's pretty heavy as you can imagine .

Thanks! I would argue you hear way more woody click from 22” cymbals that are in the 2300 to 2600g range. Rides that are thinner than that have much more spread and resonance in general. If you hear a video of a super thin ride, and it seems like it has a bunch of click, it might just be a sly recording trick…
@@Reverie_Cymbals_Drums Sticks make also a huge difference, the Vater ride stick gives a good click (imo) and I got a double touch stick (wood/nylon tip) gives an absolute click!!! btw I learn so much from your channel it's Pinksterboer on steroids!!

Tim it was great meeting you at the Chicago drum show! Your cymbals and drum kits were AMAZING! Fantastic stuff!!! Absolutely top notch!
Thanks Brent! Was great meeting you and hearing your kid play! He sounded awesome.

Love this sort of lesson/concept video. Great sounds Tim!
Thanks Mike!

Sounds great. Thanks for sharing. Continued success and Happy Drumming!
Yesss!! This is the content we love and need!
Great post, Tim! I look forward to the next. I would love to see you do a session on hi-hats in the future. Thanks for your input.
Yes! I’ve got that on the list! Thank you!

Yeah I’ve got a hi hat video planned! Hopefully I’ll get to that in the next month.

Agreed! I love what that technique can do to the sound.

Very true! That and the SD2 bolero.
Are these cymbals still available for purchase?
Both of these sold, but I make others pretty frequently for my batch drops. The next one is coming early next week.

yeah Bill is awesome but so are you Tim.

I like the "heavier" cymbals 24/2500 grams...but do we hear the more woody sound with lighter cymbals? btw the cymbals sounds beautiful!
