Lyrics below:
She tries not to shatter
Kaleidoscope style
Personality changes behind her red smile
Every new problem brings a stranger inside
Helplessly forcing one more new disguise
Christine, the strawberry girl
Christine, banana split lady
Christine, the strawberry girl
Christine, banana split lady
Singing sweet savages lost in our world
This big-eyed girl sees her faces unfurl
Now she's in purple, now she's the turtle
Disintegrating
This song is a work of art, that acoustic guitar is a marvel
John McGeoch is (was) such a underrated guitarist. He appeared on three of banshees best albums.
The bass is what makes it the droning
The drums hypnotize me every time I listen
The Gooch!!
@@garymurphy6361 Yeah, mesmerizing isn't it.
this song is now 42 years old but still as compelling as it was when it was on every juke box in the pubs of Englands pubs in 1980 - Rock On Siouxie
Time machine take me there
As a teen in the 80s USA, I would sing this when I would meet a girl named Christine. My opening line "your name is Christine, like the song"- proceeds to sing.😂 Nobody had heard of Siouxie and the Banshees so I just looked like an idiot and not so successful with the ladies. 😂😂 Looking back I see I had way better taste in music than my friends. 😂
I'm older then the Bible
Kind of insane to think Siouxsie is not only a musical icon but serious beauty icon as well, she was stunningly beautiful so many still emulate her today.
Here here. An incredible looking lady. Spellbound is one of my favourite songs of growing up.
@@AlexAlcyone I agree those two perfected that look, but some credit must be given to people like Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Screaming Lord Sutch, and Alice Cooper for planting the seeds beforehand.
@@milkteeth Pretty self-explanatory. Screamin' Jay was the first to introduce that kind of imagery into rock and roll. Of course it developed into something very different over the years, but there's a pretty obvious lineage that begins with Screamin' Jay in the 50's and develops from there through Sutch, then Alice Cooper, and on into the future.
What do you mean was?
Never was a fan of her looks and makeup style but shes not unattractive.
This song is a work of art; a disco beat and new wave / post-punk arrangements, plus it is slightly psychedelic. Top class !
@Talorc MacAllan Magazine & Visage’s self-titled release too.
This song is strangely addictive. Best in the dark with headphones on. Kudos to the sound engineer. I don’t know who Christine is, apparently she doesn’t either…I now want to know more.
Hope you saying your prayers (take them by the legs and throw them down the stairs otherwise)?
She's purple, she's a turtle, she's the banana split lady and now she's disintegrating. Oh yeah, one of those gals.
This song is about Christine Sizemore, a woman who had multiple personalities (more than 20). Siouxsie and bandmate Steven Severin were fascinated by her. The B side to the original single is titled "Eve White, Eve Black," which is also about Sizemore.
Nigel Gray was their producer for this and several albums, notable as producer for The Police : ) Every band he worked with, he conveyed their rapport so well. He was sorely missed on Hyaena.
@@manonvernon8646so that explains why the snare is tuned like stewart
I had almost forgotten what a marvelous track this actually is.
Me too
"almost forgotten " - same, here. Not since high school. Wow. Good times.
Still 54 years but not forgotten! I never forget those days the best music time ever! Like Joy Division, etc.❤ greetz from Dutchie!🇳🇱
Ju ju and caleidiodcope is two of the best albums except of Jimi Hendrix. In my opinion...
Bands like this and The Associates sum up for me the fantastic inventiveness of 80's music. I'm so grateful I grew up in the 80's.
The period between 64 -84 was the summer of our generation and now we are in the winter or the fourth turning when it all gets destroyed. When they say those were the days they were. This is the end of Kali yuga which means it's the end. As Klaus Schwab says the fourth industrial revolution does not include humanity.
💩🤣
Party Fears 2 .. love it.
but sooo many sad deaths
@@discodirk48 Indeed, those were the days my friend.
Thanks dad for called me Siouxsie ❤️ ... ( he loves her )
cool dad
Darn, that's really cool
Lucky you...😍❤
These guys aren't for sure Dad rock!
He's got good taste your dad 👍😊
The sound of this group so refreshing today yesterday and tomorrow. Timeless!
Remember dancing to this in the clubs of NOLA ... ecstasy had just gotten big.
I like it when you can hear the English accent through the singing like Siouxsie Sioux
Yes and she's half Belgian to boot.
🤩
@@markrichards636 Yes, she is. Bob Geldof also has Belgian ancestry.
@@toomuchinformation Sorry, you are correct
An absolute Siouxsie and the Banshees classic!! I first saw them waay back in time late 70s at the Punk fest 100 Club, where they gave an exhilaratingly shambolic performance, but , in time, became a really great band!! Siouxsie is very charismatic.
First song they played at the 100 Club when I went to see 'The Sex Pistols Experience' a couple of years ago. Loved it. 🍓
This song never grows old it ages like fine wine like all the Banshees tunes
She and her albums r so ABSURDLY UNDERRATED. Such brilliant songs
I never get tired of hearing beautiful, dark, melodies. Especially hearing this favorite song of mine.
Chords from the guitar blows my mind.
Love her. And love how she's rocking that Budweiser hat and playing with it's color scheme in her makeup and clothes. Top notch. This song's one of my faves of hers, too!
I saw them in 1981 at the Apollo Manchester, pure magic
Watching German Goth girls whirling around the dance floor creepily to this back in the early 80s was a sight to behold. The DJ at the Gloria Palast in Saarbrücken would spin Shadowplay by Joy Division and follow it with Christine, then Primary by The Cure, creating an almost orgasmic reaction from the Goths.
There where no Goths at that time, we name ourselves New Wave.
Hans Voorwinden : TRUE...
And we also used to call ourselves Avant-Garde or simply Batcave Post-punks!
@@dartheiden in Los Angeles in the 80's there were Goths..even had some clubs where they hanged out..i was more Punk/New Wave.
Does it really matter if they were called Goths then? The music was awesome and what the OP is talking about, would have been so amazing to see and be part of.
@@dartheiden speak for yourself i was goth punk then, maybe it was different here in britain, but i used to go to the slimelight and intrepid fox, so not so much of the rich kid in clubs, more working class at gigs and pubs, maybe that's were the difference lies, cuz we thought you new wave lot where a load a pansy fucks at the time?
Siouixsie is just too cool for school :-)
no wonder ... who the feck can put that name at the top of a paper
yup, "school boy" she said.
Disintegration
This is pure pop when Siouxsie gone you'll never another female singer but people will still be listening!
She would laugh at that statement because her music isn't pop it's only music...These dark Wave artists dont like to be labeled in mainstream music..This genre are above the rest you would hear on the radio or on TV .. These are true artists like Joy Division and New Order and The Cure.... This isn't some typical Valley Girl music in the U.S. ..Souxie Sioux is underground music...
One of the most darkest grooves I've ever heard in my life. You feel like you are trapped in a ghost's house.
"Christine disintegrated." Oooh, that lyric always gives a chill up my spine.
RIP
Or a Happy House
🎶Now she's in purple now she's a turtle 🎶
disintegrating.....
I love that line as well and the Seventeen savages it's for my ex
That is right up there in the list of weird Banshee lyrics, along with "When you think your toys have gone berserk... it's an illusion" (from Spellbound).
💜🐢
YES HAHAHAHA
Shame the actual guitarist wasn't in the video! John McGeoch totally changed The Banshees, a bit of an unsung hero. R.I.P. axeman.
Yes like in happy house mmm strange
I think you will find that John Mckay is more of an unsung hero than the brilliant John McGeoch who has constantly earned recognition for his influential playing in the Banshees and Magazine.
@@AlexAlcyone possibly because they weren't sure if he was going to be a permanent member of the band? Kaleidoscope was a sort of transitional album between lineups
@Matt·Dylan but sadly John McGeoch is no longer here 😢
@@AlexAlcyone That's Severin's bass headstock you see.
Thanks Siouxsie and the Banshees for the great music, albums, gigs. Hammersmith Palais, etc. I was 17 back in the early eighties and the Banshees were a very big part of my growing from boy to man. I wouldn't be able to sleep the night before a Siouxsie gig because of excitement. She was the most beautiful woman in the world and my first love! Man, what an awesome time that was. Such brilliant music. Thank you.
No she looks hideous which she's supposed to look 👹👺💀☠👻
askin what’s the difference, askin what’s been missing
they need to get the sample cleared😖

Siouixsie - I forgot just how many great hits you had. So talented.... I have gone back in time tonight playing all my old faves and in a way it all seems like yesterday. Is it just me?
No its not you, time passes very very quickly , cheers
Disintegrating:)
not just you. when i hear this, i'm nineteen again
The post punk bass with the 12 string guitar makes this song sound very mystical.

I like the subtitle at the beginning ''pensive post-punk''. And what a perfect drum beat.
Pucker song, one of the great things about forgetting songs as you get older is RE- FINDING THE SONGS !! LOVE IT....
And remembering your Mum telling you to "turn down that Siouxsie and the bleeding Banshees!" Lol...
Yes It’s marvelous, but my husband wants me to turn it down now. 🤣
I swear, in 35+ years, I never noticed the hatband of Budweiser labels.
It became iconic in S&TB fandom...in Summer, 2013, when Siouxsie performed at Meltdown, an avid fan wore the exact same hat in the front row, as tribute.
Only Queen Siousxsie can wear a straw hat with a Budweiser hatband and STILL look goth AF.
Hahahaha. Laughing both because of the disjunction of goth Siouxsie wearing a hat with Bud labels and Mr. Howard's not noticing until now. Carl, I'm right with you, I probably wouldn't have noticed either until one day....Loved your reaction, and really like this song/video. Ms. S has never been more alluring.
ikr. bud is much wiser.
My mom had on of those bud hats in the late 70s, got it at Busch gardens in LA. Never thought it would be so cool.
My very first goth song and band that I became a huuuge fan of. Absolutely love Siouxsie and the banshees🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
YAH I like Cities in Dust 💀☠👻
I'm lucky to be named Christine.. Thank god..., thanks Siouxsie 😍😍😍😍💜💜💜💜❤❤🙈
My sister is called Christine I would always play this song on the jukebox when she came in the pub 🙈
She needs her music to continue forever!!
Siouxsie please hit the road in 2021.
After seeing you at the Paramount theater in Seattle back in the day was amazing and unforgettable...Make it happen girl!!
They were just so Great ,I saw em live a few times ,She is mesmerising and the Great band to back it up , Fantastic band .
Absolutely love siouxsie , been a fan since highschool in the 80's , they never fail to deliver !
Listening to Siouxsie and painting things black.
I heard this song a couple times before but only now I'm discovering the awesomness of this song. And the video is kickass. Especially the way Siouxsie looks.
Clayco is a genius
Definitely the best song of Siouxsie for me....
I agree, If I was only allowed to take one song to a desert island it would be this one. If we imagined picking only one ultimate song from every fav band. Example 'Running up that Hill' Kate Bush, 'Are Friends Electric' Gary Numan, 'No More Heroes' The Stranglers, 'A Forest' the Cure 'That's Entertainment' The Jam.
This song will always be a favorite of mine, I love the whole atmosphere in it 🥰👌🏻🔥
Stunningly beautiful
Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame ....

This song has such a perfect eerie feel to it, love it
Always will love this band ❤️♥️
sure miss the 80's. the most creative and energetic time in music.
I LOVE YOU SOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES - SO DEFINATE.. AMAZING SOULS.
My favourite outfit Siouxsie wore and there were many good ones.🤩💥
This song is in a very special portal of my memory.
Really love Budgie’s unconventional drum rhythms.
The most beautiful woman in music world ever❤️
A Christine checking in.... Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.
This video is brilliantly made! Siousxie was my most favorite band growing up. I would have to save my lunch money to buy their cassette tapes.
When I was in HS I would sing “now she’s in purple, now she’s a turtle” just to get a reaction. I never got tired of saying that.

I love this song even more now than I did when it came out 🖤
I am 55 years Old and in love with Siouxie for decades! Right now i dedicate this song to her, and her name i Christine, a cameleon lady❤️❤️❤️🎶
Astonishing creativity ... certainly few rivals in the world of today.
Saw them live in 1987...I was eighteen..brilliant concert!!!!
Love to see so many people commenting on this song. This is my all time favorite of their hits.
Oooh such a vibe… still hot fire many years later! 😉❤️🔥
My favourite song by the band and Siouxsie looking simply gorgeous.

Destroy lonely 😻
Couldn't wait till Sunday night. Thank you" Rodney on the ROQ" for broadcasting Siouxsie and the banshees ....✨🍓👍
My sister and I witnessed a major event in December of 1986 when the group gave five encores at Radio City Music Hall in New York--the only time I ever witnessed any band caving in to any audience emoting thundering ovations. Thank you, bless you and still love you,,,
yeah it took a long time
You started the post punk phenomenon❤
God is this song beautiful. I love dark chords etc. Excellent presentation for the video. Simple, elegant, makes a powerful point.
I have stars in my eyes....a fan of her too with the name of christine.😊
Siouxsie and the banshees. Great band. And budgie is one of the best drummers on the planet. Recently doing work with Juno reactor I think. Another incredible group of music makers. Thanks for the sounds.
Lonely.
Dopo 40'anni mi esalti ancora, siouxsie!
beati anni '80........
I really did like Suzie and the Banshies . She was so original. Great performer
Probably their best song in my opinion! Love it!
The perfect track
ah that flanger at 1:20, never gets old
Yeaah! I'm glad I'm listening this band again along with the Flaming Lips!
Budgie is a genius.
She has got the most awesome eyebrows.
fun fact: this song is about a real girl name Christine who has MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER! even a movie was made about her called "3 faces of eve"
the b side of this single had a song called "eve white/eve black" which were the other two faces
This song is whatever you want it to be about-unless you have no imagination and always interpret poetry or song lyrics according to what may have inspired the composer in the first place or on WHAT OTHERS TELL YOU. By the way, there is nothing "fun" about your "fact."
@@doyleperkins4916 good to know now express your opinion to someone who cares lol
22 faces, disintegrated. It was nice to be on the mass email list back in the 1990s. SATB-listserv or whatever it was called, good times.
@@doyleperkins4916 Ariel, this is a churlish response. And really unfair. Noting what inspired the songwriter to write the song doesn’t prove that Oakland Mageo or anyone lacks imagination. As for your opinion that the lyrics can be interpreted different ways, I agree, but you could certainly have made it without belittling someone whom I assume is a complete stranger.
First saw this on MTV's 120 Minutes when I was in high school.
Her style is so inspiring!
