The new Addams Family 4K Pinball is making its way into the hands of early adopters. Some people are claiming the new machine is unplayable with severe lag. Is this true, or is the issue being blown out of proportion?
In this video, I look at the updates that have been made to improve gameplay, as well as updated shipping information and more.

Got ours and it arrived in perfect condition. I was lucky enough to hear the FedEx truck pull in so I was able to watch the guy like a hawk so he handled it with care. The Addams Family is a fun but frustrating and punishing table. I don't know how much of the frustration is due to the flipper lag. I upgraded my buttons to leaf switches, I don't know if it helped any. One pretty major problem I have that no one is talking about is that I can press and release the flipper button so fast that the solenoid fires but the flipper doesn't move AT ALL. If you give it a quick smack and release, like a reactionary button press where you just slap it and let go, the flipper may not move. I have to be deliberate with my button presses and almost hold it. I think that's the flipper lag. Solenoids fire mechanically but the flipper movement has to wait for the CPU/software - this ability to fire the solenoid but not move the flipper is on all tables. The other tables look great and play better than TAF, but let's face it - they suck. This purchase was for the superior Zen software. They need to nail it down and get us more Zen tables available.

just put mine together today. addams family has some flipper and plunger lag but i feel it will be fixed in a future update. All other tables play smooth. I am also a day 1 Alp hd owner so it was easy to compare the two but this is a night and day improvement.

Great coverage! I can tell you though, the term "Unplayable" is very apropos in your thumbnail. Unfortunately for me, I can tell you that ALL THE TABLES on the 4KP are unplayable! Uh... Wait... Oh, that's right. I haven't taken mine out of the box yet... My bad 😋
Oh Zen... Still after all these years working off of software engines that are unnecessarily resource hungry. That's why when Zen comes out with a new platform, it takes a couple of years before the majority of users have the hardware necessary to run it without issue. I think they keep building new engines based upon old sensibilities. This has been happening since Zen Pinball FX 2 and that includes 3, their latest "FX," as well as all their console and android platforms. In fact, I'm running an I9 5ghz Intel with 64GB of ram and a Nvidia 2080 Super card with the latest Pinball FX running on an ultra fast SSD, and the thing still runs with too much lag. I can't even run it with everything turned up. Ridiculous! And the trickery it took to even run Zen on the Arcade1Up (lowered resolution 720p and possible frame skipping to hit 60fps), was also a mess.
And the reason I know Zen's softwares are unnecessarily resource hungry, is because, not only did Farsight Studios have successful runs on PC and android with minimum to medium specs for years, but also Magic Pixel and their incredible lighting engine, which makes each table look INCREDIBLY 3D, not to mention the ball, all at a near lag free experience.
Zen has the licenses, we just need them to work with AtGames's other partners who have got the software side down, Farsight Studios and Magic Pixel (though Farsight Studios on the Legends HD was very slap dash).
I hope in the next 3 or 4 weeks I'll be able to get my 4KP built and running. I'm just waiting for the Pinball Parlor wing for Bill's Game Room to open where he has all 5 of the AtGames 4KP machines side by side! Just joking :)

Best comment here.... I have the 4k and love playing on it.... I look at it as the tables and software can only get better..... Far from unplayable.
@violator6677 yes, the people calling it "unplayable" are over exaggerating the issue for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting
well said. Magic Pixel's lighting and graphics are fantastic. It's just that everything else about their original and Zac games suck bad in comparison to Zen - artwork, sound, theme, backglass animations, mini games, voice acting, etc, etc. I wish Magic Pixel could do the Bally Williams tables with their engine.
Day 1, owner, everything came in perfect condition and works perfectly out of the box. Compared to my Gen 1 table, the new table looks amazing, plays great, and I am extremely happy overall. I just got my SSF kit today and will be installing it. Don't listen to the Debby Downers on UA-cam, software bugs are minimal and will get fixed. Addam's family has a slight lag but is completely playable and a blast.
great video that why I'm waiting for all the bugs to get worked out I may have to pay more but I won't be frustrated after i get it
Mine came today. I have no complaints. I think the lag is being greatly exaggerated. Too many people in this hobby love to complain.
Unfortunately, my table came in today my Addams family put it together turn it on and nothing no lights no sound not even the top of lights up. I went through all the wires 10 times took them apart put them back together and nothing I just opened the ticket. I just hope I do not have to returnthis because packing it back up will be a nightmare
OK, I have played it for a day and I do have some more thoughts. The lag on Addams Family is more noticeable to me than it was at first. It's tough to play after you have played the other games on the table, because then the lag is more obvious. Also, I have noticed an occasional micro stutter of the ball in all the games. It's rare and it's not a deal breaker, but it's odd considering these are all their stock tables. Yes, you will absolutely want to turn of the flipper solenoids. They are incredibly loud. And finally, the stock speakers aren't great. There is a noticeable crackling when theme music is played at moderately high volumes. I have no idea if that is just my unit or a production wide issue. Thought I owed it to you to update my impressions. It's a great looking machine, and I look forward to getting it running FX3 and VPX in the near future.

Just received #81 Attack from Mars. Downloaded Adams family and Snoopy on it. All three of these had flipper lag. Seen someones video about this and he said to turn off ball trail and score pop ups. That actually helped quite a bit. I would say it. went from a 4 playability to 8 or 9. Still not quite there but at least playable til the software fix. Wasn't crazy about the heptic feedback level at 50, too much vibration. Turned that down to about 30. Does anybody know if you can just simply swap out better 3.5 in speakers? Factory ones not terrible but seems like an easy upgrade. Love the game so far and the potential for future games and Arcade play on it is a plus.
Put mine together and the firmware wont download. And you can’t exit the screen… even on reboot. It’s a boat anchor.

oh man...sorry to hear that. I assume you opened a ticket with AtGames? That's something they HAVE to replace - maybe even with a whole new machine.
@@BillsRetroGamingShow Yea, they are sorry and helpful and everything like that. Also jump through a lot of hoops, but that is fine. Maybe I can take it apart and figure out what happened after this gets sorted out.

@@BillsRetroGamingShowI got the replacement body. There is a spot a couple of inches big where the wood is chipped out the side from shipping but the game is functional. I'll feel better after I glue it, but Phew! At least it is here, now I just need to adjust to the flipper lag.
Considering that they could never emulate Sega Genesis correctly, this comes as no surprise LOL
Short answer: it's a lot more playable than new waves offering. But it's not mechanical. It's a digital system.
It does seem like it's getting better with each update. I'm sure they'll have this dialed in enough to make most people happy eventually.

Thats like doing a movie review , not by watching the movie yourself, but by watching the reviews by people who did actually go out and see the movie. Lolol
This is not a review video. First off, I talk about updates to shipping of the machines. I also mention people receiving damaged units. I don't need a machine to talk about either of those things.
As for the playability of the machine, that's based on tests by Wagners Tech talk. I'm promoting his findings and commenting on them. I then mention what atgames themselves have said regarding lag and their commitment to working with Zen to improve it.
If this was a review video I'd talk about a lot more aspects of the machine.
