how did i not know about this channel?! i’ve been watching roly for a few years and i’ve recently started watching luxeria so i searched for “roly and luxeria” and came across this. can’t wait to marathon these videos
I’m American and I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t dislike Charleston Chew. I can’t imagine biting into it not knowing what to expect! It’s been on the market for like 98 years and I can’t imagine how.
Seriously!! None of my siblings cousins or friends were like Oooooh yayyyy Charleston chew. And frozen? It would send you straight in for davinci veneers. 🦢🦢

Dont understand all the hate it's kind just a simple candy.
Chewy vanilla type nougat with a chocolate coating. Most people on the planet like vanilla and chocolate flavors and nougat and chews are two common candy textures. Its a classic for a reason and I find it to be a total treat.. You can tell its oldschool though in the same way that taffy is ...otherwise I dont get the offense? Chewiness for people who dont like chewiness? It's in the name..
I grew up in key west Florida where we have key limes everywhere. Its a simple custard, not whipped or anything. Oh and its yellow, not green. That's for tourists. I have my great grandma's recipe for kl pie and pretty much everyone agreed it was the best on the island. Its really just 3 ingredients: key lime juice, sweetened condensed milk and egg yolks. Tourists usually eat it in a graham cracker crust with whipped cream, but locals eat it in a regular pie crust with meringue. The graham cracker makes it too sweet, especially with meringue. Plus in the 30s and 40s when my great grandmother was young, they weren't able to get the ingredients for graham cracker crust, but they did have flour and stuff for regular pie crust.
If anyone wants to try it, it's: 3/4 cups key lime juice (fresh squeezed is best, but Nellie and Joe's brand juice is a close 2nd), 1 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk, 9 eggs separated, 1 1/4 cups sugar melted, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar, pinch of salt, and a deep dish pie crust (preferably pillsbury). Bake the pie crust. Combine juice, milk and egg yolks and pour into crust. Bake at 350°f for 15 min. Whip egg whites until soft peaks form, then slowly add melted sugar while whipping. Then add the cream of tartar and salt. Whip until stiff peaks form. When the pie is done, plop the meringue on top. I recommend making lots of peaks, they get toasty and delicious. Put it back in the oven for 20-25 min. Let it chill in the fridge for a while then enjoy! Oh, fyi, it'll end up weeping if it sits too long. The cream of tartar helps with that, but doesn't stop it.
If you have leftover meringue, pipe them into small swirls and bake them at 200°f for 2 hrs or until dry, then you have meringitos.
I used to make these kl pies for a pan Latin restaurant along with cuban style flan and tres leches cake.
I cannot thank you enough for this! My grandma made key lime pie when I was growing up & it was always my favorite! Sadly I never got her recipe before she passed & most online recipes I've found are the Graham cracker/whipped cream kind! ❤

One thing to keep in mind; prepackaged Chex mix is vile compared to the homemade recipe. Everyone is always so surprised how good homemade is and I substitute onion powder with cayenne pepper. It's one of the things I ALWAYS make and take to gatherings and when my son visits. I actually got told off the one time I hadn't made some for a "friend's" birthday.

Cheesy peas are peas mixed with a lot of cheese. My mom would make it with velveeta and when we put the left over in a container in the fridge. The next day the velveeta kind of harder so it would come out in one piece. The name of the container that is on the bottom would also be in the velveeta cheese.

On the Chex that you tried, the one Luxeria was hesitant about, is my favorite part of the whole bag and they make a bag of just those brown things. You two are the best as well as Calum.

if you havent already tried harvest cheddar sun chips, theyre delicious. also, utz red hot chips are really spicy but really good. some of the bags have sooo much spice, some have little to non and are just salty so you never know what youre gonna get. another spicy snack i love are andys capps hot fries. theyre literally to die for- theyre a bit spicy, but tolerable i believe! ( i grew up in a portuguese house hold where everything is spicy, so i have a good tolerance, so if anyone reading this has a super low tolerance, take my spice rating for the hot fries with a grain of salt haha )
The marshmallow freezes and we often freeze candy bars

In the 70s housewives threw together a "party mix" with checks cereal and nuts and spices and butter and other things kinda like trail mix and I remember it being served at showers and Tupperware parties.lol Then someone marketed it. Tada!!

I love nutter-butter, but can't eat them any more because I have a genetic condition and have to be gluten free. Feel much better without gluten, but miss some foods.

I love this so Much watching you both eat the Charleston Chew was Hilarious. I am obsessed with them. it's Just flavored nougat either vanilla chocolate or strawberry covered in Chocolate. But it is very tacky in texture. Frozen IS WAY BETTER.
I love you both and all your content and I'm here for whatever but honestly it hit home a bit when you said in the UK teeth replacement is affortable, because there are literally hardly any NHS dentists still around. I'm fortunate enough to be able rto afford to go private but the procedures I have coming over thre next year cost the size of a mid range second hand car. Dentistry in the UK is weird rn.

I only like charston chews frozen, they take on this brittle texture that easily shatters when you bite it and it seems to change the flavor too

I know I’m like a year late, but that birth defect warning you were talking about I think it’s called the prop eight warning and I don’t remember the specifics but basically companies just slap that on everything to avoid lawsuits so the products aren’t all as dangerous as they seem (also I’m Canadian so I could have that totally wrong)
