Russian tank explodes hurling turret 250ft into the air after Ukrainian missile strike

- SHOCKING video captures the moment a Russian tank is reportedly blown up, sending its turret hurtling 250ft into the air following a Ukrainian missile strike.
The captured dashcam footage, reportedly filmed in eastern Ukraine, shows Putin's war machine exploding in an enormous fireball as it drives along a road.
In the clip filmed from a car driving behind the tank, a huge blast erupts shortly up the road, and what appears to be a tank turret goes flying into the sky.
A number of figures, possibly Russian soldiers, are seen desperately scrambling for cover.
It was filmed by the Chinese state media channel Phoenix TV, which shared a clip of its journalist's close encounter with the inferno on its UA-cam channel.
The video was taken while the Chinese team were on their way to the Azovstal steel plant in the besieged city of Mariupol, where they were covering the evacuation of civilians.
t was reportedly taken last week, although not much else is known about the type of tank and casualty numbers or the type of weapon which destroyed it.
Explaining the context behind the incredible video, the channel said: "Phoenix reporter Lu Yuguang escaped death during the interview in eastern Ukraine," adding that the driver needed "emergency deceleration to avoid danger".
It went on: "Phoenix Satellite TV dispatched a front-line interview team from eastern Ukraine to go to the Mariupol Azov Steel Plant on May 6 to track and report the evacuation of civilians by the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Russian military organisation."
The report said that while "on the way to the interview," suddenly a Russian tank driving in front of them blew up in "a huge explosion".

Why are peoples said this Village captured? Belogorovka still russian, even if there was some fights. And Popasnya 100% russian, and both ukranians and russians say its russian...
its like they say ukranian counter attack in kharkiv, but Russia capture 5 vilage in east donbass(like popasnya, belogorovka), and not a single media say about it

Ah yes Russia's newest 5th gen fighter
We have to acknowledge that the Ukraine war with Russia has brought in a new sort of fighting. The sheer power of hand-held rocket launchers, drones capable of delivery payloads has changed the battlefield forever.
Nope we seen this lesson play out over and over again look at Israel in 2005 with Hezbollah. Which is why trophy / iron fist Aps came to be. thats why the next Abrams upgrade will have them on it.
Infantry with RPG's and later missiles have been the bane of tanks since WWII. The US has been droning half of the world for the last 20 years. What is new is the brutally effective observation drone & artillery combination to completely wreck an enemy anytime it stops moving.
That happened already in the Soviet-Afghan war , when mujahedin were supplied with u.s. Stinger handheld ground to air missiles, which changed that war ...
This changes nothing regards a modern western military that uses combined arms, as opposed to the old Soviet doctrine. Just send the tanks Kamerad!
With combined arms you have surveillance aircraft/drones, fast jets to neutralise targets before the tanks with supporting infantry even get close to those MANPATS. Attack helis in close support, highly mobile infantry screens, ECM etc... Lets hope the Russians continue with the strategy that is "all going to plan" apparently lol

Trying to maintain russian air superiority.
T-72 was designed before smart bombs and drones coming from above. But when it was designed it was very unlikely an enemy tank shell would penetrate it's armour and reach the ammo rack under the turret. But with drones it's a very expensive turret launch pad.
That makes no sense. At this point it is very unlikely that if a tank takes a direct hit from another tank, they don’t get penetrated. What they are doing is trading survivability for size and an auto loader. Compared to the Abrams, the T-72 is half the length of a Abrams but the Abrams trades an auto loader for an 18 year old kid.
@@manyatruefail

Russian tanks can be a formidable thing to behold, but damn was that auto loader a bad idea! Sure, fire rate goes up, but so does your turret when it gets hit.
When it gets hit. That was the entire reason an autoloader was installed, to make it smaller and less likely to be hit compared to its American counterpart, the Abrams. These tanks were never designed for a modern battlefield.
@@doggo_woo Because the whole logic behind them is based in ww2. They are built to fight tanks and avoid primitive rocket systems.
It has more to do with the way the ammo is stored than the auto loader. Western auto loading tanks don’t have this problem.
Once you get hit by a missile, it doesn't make much of a difference on where your ammo is stored. It will blow up instantly.
@@joaoayala It does make a difference. Western tanks store their ammo in a compartment separated from the crew by a blast shield; and that compartment has blow-out panels so that the blast vents away from the crew.

This is a typical Russian air show they hold at special events
It's pretty sad when Russian Tank Turrets have more flight hours than their Aircraft.
Its because of the autoloader. In normal tanks like abrams the ammo is separated from the crew, and in case of detonation it gets vented away. In russian tanks (because russians/soviets never cared about the value of human life) the ammo sits right there with the crew. If the VERY heavy turret flies that high into the air you can imagine what happens to the crew
Correct : Russia has never cared for its soldiers.
It dates back to the C19th (and earlier) when soldiers were slaves (serfs).
Russia has always considered soldiers expendable - just like damaged machinery.
I remembered a video from Mariupol when russkies corpses were flying 50 meters up.
The Russians opted for the Autoloader because they use untrained conscripts. It gives them a better chance of actually loading the correct type of round but, as you say, it has the disadvantage of storing the rounds just beneath the Turret. It's a design flaw the makers of Javelin and NLAW were well aware of.

Ok, i agree, russia don't care about there people...
But in this case, it's because of auto-reloading in the tank... they can't have separated area for crew and munitions.... (maybe in other country they don't have autoreload because they care about the crew....)
What i try to mean is :
They've choosen auto-reload, so no crew safety !
It's not : they don't care about the crew, so they put ammunitions under the seat of the crew ! ;D
i must say this is one of the better turret flyers i seen so far, i would like to see a comparison between a t72 a t80 and a t90 to see which are the best Russian turret flyers, but they all seem to do quite well, maybe russia should consider ejector seats in there tanks as they spend more time in the air than on the ground.
lol, Russian Judge judge gave it score of 6 as turret stuck the landing nicely
“Pop the top and you can’t stop!”
That's where they get their designation from, hit the T90 in the right spot and you will find the turret 90 metres away.
♥
Really all depends on how much ammunition is left in it. Looks like this one had a full load
Lucky someone was there to measure the distance accurately
That Ukrainian missle strike came dangerously close to hitting Ukrainian motorists.
But we won't talk about that
russn tank was not destroyed by enemy fire. It suffered a minor maintenance problem due to bad weather and returned to base safely.
ahahaha
The tank exploded due to engine malfunction but returned to base for repairs
Source: Putin claimed it
That's a pretty harsh penalty for illegally parking your tank in a "No Parking" zone on the side of the road.
what they gonna do, tow it away?
Ukraine 🇺🇦 is a NO Parking Zone
For Russian Tanks
Ukraine: You can't park there sir
Russia: What's the name of this road
Ukraine: Ka-boom
Russian Turret: I can see my House from here.
Illegally parked on the wrong side of the Russian-Ukrainian BORDER
@@Fanaz10 I mean if the neighborhood watch can tow away the other illegally parked vehicles, yeah I think so...

Damn russian engineering is crazy, their tank turrets can turn into helicopters
And their flagships can turn into submarines like James Bond!
HELICOPTER HELICOPTER *MEME
The war ship can turn into submarine too
This one tried to achieve orbit.
Transformers are here!😎
That has to be single most devestating ammo rack explosion I think that has been captured on video. Was that thing loaded with nothing but propellant and HE rounds?
Probably I think its the other heat shell not the heat stabilizer
Another staged attack.
That’s all you need for killing civilians
Thats exactly the thing. Russians build their tanks neatly packed. That means if something penetrates, it will hit something important. And often thats the explosives.
My admiration for Russians is only increased. Even in death they still strive to reach greater heights. Yawning Heights. Слава Украïна 🇺🇦
Y ahí van las famosas fuerzas aerotransportadas de la "gloriosa" federación rusa 🤡💀
If you saw that in a movie you would be saying how unrealistic and over the top that tank hit was. Bravo Ukraine!
10/10/10
Wonderful technique and grace, both before and after landing.
Perfect 💥
Yeah, I give it a 10.
That's just so funny.
when you accidentally load full heat in warthunder
That tank’s turret went airplane mode
That's a score of 10 without a doubt! Maximum explosion and the height of the turret launching into the air was perfect! The person shooting the video did a great job too, he could have been killed by flying debris from the exploding tank.
The turret and gun blown off like this are called "banjos".
Turret +250ft
Turret Gunner -10ft -- tho maybe 250ft+ horizontal.
@@RSPYC and lolipops
I think we got to give the person shooting the tank, the credit he deserves too! That was right on the old ammo stack fer sure!
@@sqnhunter I totally agree with you! 👍👍
And we now turn to the Russian defense minister for comment…
“We have successfully created a new kind of airborne armored division - Ukrainian missiles had nothing to do with this!”
Sounds about right.
man brought too much ammo
3...2...1 we have lift off😂😂😂
If there is one thing Russian tanks do superbly well is explode with such finesse, gusto, and movie shaming pyrotechnics, unmatched by any other country’s tanks. On top of that since Russian tanks explode so well and vaporize the bodies of the 3 crewmen leaving no bodies behind, it helps Vladimir Putin’s keep his casualty numbers down, yes Russian tanks are by far the most patriotic tanks in the world, and they do it for the motherland!
The families can't claim compensation because the crew aren't dead, they are "missing in action". If you ask their commander he will insist he hasn't lost any tanks and the crew are in fact deserters, so those families must be arrested!
For the tank crew, these tanks ensure your painless death and cremation occur instantly when you are hit. There are no body remains left to bury
That’s kind of good to know they don’t feel pain
It's only painless if they just drank a fifth of vodka.
Their sins are being burnt away now. Now..... for the rest of them..... soon to come.
@@musicwarrior7630 bro they are just soldiers following orders You can't denigrante their humans rights 💀

That is so awesome. Wish we could've seen the rocket impact.
Its like you're in a real life action movie turning away from the explosion
Can't tell if the tank brewed up first, but this is what happens to almost all Russian tanks because the ammunition is stored in the turret instead of an ammo compartment with blast doors.
Russia using old tanks thou, turms etc, and on every destroyed one making 1,5 armata tank😂
@@Player_228 are you saying that for every tank they lose they're making 1.5 armatas? Why did they have four on parade then? Where is the footage? Where is any evidence at all? This is honestly one of the saddest misinformation attempts since Russia tried to claim that hunter Biden was in mariupol
Known problem since WW2 that the turret ring is the weakest point of the tank. A problem that nearly every tank manufacturer has fixed by having venting ammo compartments. Nearly all, except russia.
The severity of the explosion indicates that there was a direct hit - and subsequent detonation on one of the HE projectiles inside the tank. The mass of the turret delayed the venting of the blast for the critical microsecond necessary for all of the other ammunition and propellant to detonate also. This causes the tank to pop like a balloon.
@@Player_228They won't deploy their Armata's to Ukraine though. They are a)Too expensive, b)Won't be able to sell them abroad when similar videos appear of them exploding in Ukraine.
Therefore, the tankers who are in ex-Soviet tanks in addition to being licensed to drive on the road must also possess the aircraft piloting license ... 🤔
Nope!They earn their Wings/or a fork in an instant!+a harp/horns naturally!
Only a commander i think, drivers dont fly that often
@@avegromek In Russia they are so bureaucratized that all crew members must have the flight license and I would not be surprised if, when the turret "takes off", the flight controller of the nearest control tower asked for the details of the documents to the tank chief 🤔 and who authorized him to fly ... 😶
There is an exemption if you restrict your flight to under 300 feet and duration to less than 5 minutes. Then you don't even need an Ultralight Permit and no specific training is mandated. However you do still come under normal Health and Safety regulations, including 'working at height' rules. But some guys -- it's almost always guys -- just won't be told.
@@davidbugler4597 🤔🤔 could be... could be. ICAO should've banned them from flying that high, that posses a serious treat to some low level vfr. But those russians... they are careless, like u said. I blame Top Gun
I’ve read about in dozens of WWII books. First time actually seeing it. What a horrible death. The cooking to death part, well prior to the turret going up.
Holy crap!
They have only themselves to blame, I am so glad that the Russians cannot even design a Tank correctly. More pictures like this please. Go Ukraine.
No tank was shown in the video; it was mostly likely a fuel tanker or the explosion from an IED.
The Russians are so bad at designing tanks that they pioneered virtually all the components of the modern tank; they pioneered composite armour; smooth-bore guns; ERA; Soft-kill protection suites; and APS.
@@thephoenix756 So you entirely missed the tank turret flying 100 feet in the air?
@@thephoenix756 that turret in the air looks like a MBT turret. Even modern Russian T-90Ms do not survive hits from Ukrainian weapons.
@@thephoenix756 Firstly, I guess you missed the turret flying sky high, just as The Phoenix said. Second, yes, Russia MAY have done SOME of those things. But apparently it was a wasted opportunity because they seem to perform extremely poorly in real world conditions. The Russians may have also pioneered the tank autoloader system. Don't know if they actually did or not. But it is apparently the biggest weakness of their tanks. Because when that ERA and composite armour fails, you can sure count on that autoloader and poor ammo placement the Russians pioneered to ensure the job is finished...
@@GreatestCornholio
If it is a turret than it was likely caused by an IED or a damaged Russian tank was packed with explosives by the Ukrainians for propaganda purposes. Propellent does not explode that quickly; propellant burns for minutes before exploding.

There's no tank to be seen anywhere!!, the NLAW and Javelin missile do not cause such an explosion.
Mariupol
@@samueljesse2179 We can clearly see the turret go up into the air. And yes, a rocked doesn´t cause such an explosion, but the ammunition of a tank blowing up all at once does...
I totally agree!!!
Imagine how the Russian tank crews feels every time they are ordered to step into that 200mm thick armored enclosure along with a magazine full of high explosives? There is probably no quicker way to die than in a Russian tank that gets hit by a shoulder fired weapon.
exactly. That's why so many russian soldiers are missed: they will never be found, since they do not exist any more.
I was watching a video on some intercepted phone calls from Russian soldiers. He said his commander ordered him into a tank and he told his wife he said F you no and walked off 😂. I don’t think many Russian soldiers are getting in tanks if they can help it.
They should try the"Piece" Corp. Oof.
There are two faster ways:
1) being inside a submarine crushed by excessive water pressure;
2) being in close proximity (less than 2 km) of a thermonuclear airborne detonation.
