Difference between translocation , inversion and crossingover, if someone is confused among them . Translocation and inversion of chromosomes are mutations; crossing over is not. The reason for this distinction is that both translocation and inversion result in a change in the genetic information, while crossing over simply swaps genetic material between “like” chromosomes unchanged. Translocation can be seen as more undesirable compared to inversion, as it is more likely to result in disease, for instance infertility, cancer and Down syndrome.
