- In this video I describe what I think might be the best camera for underwater photography and underwater video capture in the point and shoot class of cameras.
Powershot G7X MarkII = (Amazon) amzn.to/2OaJw8W
Mark II Underwater Case = (Amazon) amzn.to/2Obxe06
Newer version G7X MarkIII= (Amazon) amzn.to/30u4LFl
note: I believe the underwater housing is the same for both camera models
Canon PowerShot line of cameras can be fantastic for underwater imagery capture purposes. They are capable of producing both high quality underwater pictures as well superb underwater video. In addition Canon manufactures quality underwater camera housings for the PowerShot line at reasonable prices. In this video I discuss my underwater experience with the Canon Powershot G7X Mark II and what I like about it when capturing imagery in the Ocean.

Great video with a lot of good information! Thanks Joe.
Thanks Glen, great to hear the underwater camera video was insightful for you.
Great review, just considering buying the Canon g7x mk2 for diving. Have you any experience of the Ikelite housing? I like the look if them, or would you recommend the canon branded case?
Thanks, I have no direct experience with the Ikelite underwater housing for this particular camera. I would assume it works well though. One thing that is nice about the Canon housing is it allows use of the internal camera flash. Some of the third party housings do not.
Great video!!! I currently have the Canon GX7II and looking to get into underwater photography. I am interested in photos and video. That being said, the video is only 1080 not 4K. Should I look at the TG-6 or upgrade to GX7III or just spend the money on setting up GX7II. Thanks
I think the 7xII is still a good cam but would be curious of the the 7III capabilities.
Great info....thank U!!
You bet! Thanks for the comment.
great video!! thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks
Thanks for the info. I'm in the market for an upgrade from a Canon G10 so I'll keep this one in mind.
Awesome, please let me know what you decide for an underwater camera when you make an upgrade.
Came across this video as I was looking for a underwater camera from a vlogging perspective for water parks. I’ve never used a GoPro but have used a cheaper alternative and I’ll be honest I really don’t like how they film! I wanted to see if it was possible to actually use a compact camera, I currently have the G7X mark I which I can reuse as my underwater camera when I upgrade to the new G7X mark III. Thankyou so much for this video, you’ve helped huge amounts! Love the footage and pictures you have! 👏🏼☺️🎥
Thank you Stephy. So great to hear the underwater camera recommendation was useful for you. Keep me posted when you get the G7X Mark III. I haven't used one yet and would appreciate your insight. Thanks again!
UWPICVID no problem! Of course I will do!
@Olivier La Buse … didn’t bother with the G7X Mark iii as I’m not a fan of them anymore, I prefer Sony and also purchased the GoPro Hero 9 👍🏼
@Olivier La Buse I did too now
Hi, would you recommend the Mark III instead TG6?
thanks
Thanks for the comment. I have not had the chance to use either of those cameras underwater as of yet. Given I am pretty impressed G7X MarkII I would likely default to the MarkIII option just because I have experience with the II.
I am from Kamchatka. Thanks for you work.
Wow thanks for commenting and watching the underwater camera review video.
@@UWPICVID how deep can you go underwater without the camera losing image quality?
@@ignaciob5203 it depends on the clarity of the water. In any case, you lose light with depth. Even in very clear water the ambient light dissipates the further you descend. If you are using natural light you would likely have to increase ISO settings with increasing depths. At some point you will see a degradation in image quality. Using lights can negate the effects of depth on image quality to some degree however.
@@UWPICVID thanks
Which would you choose for underwater use, the cannon G7 MkII or the Olympus TG-6.?
I am most familiar with the Canon camera and would likely stick with that one for my underwater photography and video work. That is not to say the other camera is not a worthy underwater imagery device I am just not personally too familiar with it. Let me know what you decide.
I think I will stick with the Cannon I've had two in the past and both have served me well, and best of all never leaked a drop, also the main selling point for me is the larger sensor on the Cannon for lowlight.
Hi Uncle Joe it's Lucas
Hey Lucas! Thanks for watching the underwater camera video.
