I can’t put my finger on it but these ‘80’s ~ early-‘90’s productions were so much ‘friendlier’ than post-‘00’s documentaries and infinitely more so than today’s . . .
Because its just Malcolm and a camera. No production company and fake presenter. Early Steve Irwin stuff was really good but his later docos were forced and not genuine. Also australia was a wilder place back then.
The flute music and the scenery reminds me of Star Trek when they land on a strange planet It always makes me nervous when Malcolm’s boat ends up in a precarious spot lol

12:40 better off keeping the SS prop as a backup because as I learned the hard way once & with the same 90HP OMC motor you'll take out your lower unit if you hit something very hard with the SS prop, aluminum ones bend & save the lower unit.
Loved watching Malcolm as a young bloke. It's hard to believe that his LandCruiser crushed and killed him, such a sad story. While believe his wishes for it all to become a National Park at that time were genuine but I'm not sure if he realises that would mean no casting nets for mullet or collecting oysters for tucker in this day and age so he would just starve while enjoying the scenery.

I go car camping with more specialist outdoor gear than Malcolm. lol Instead of fancy outdoor clothes and with scientific fabric Malc has jean cut offs. Instead of sweat wicking uv shirts Malc is shirtless. Fancy boots or shoes to climb with heck no, Converse high tops . 😄
@@gtbtp2036it's true mate, I was watching James as he watched Malcolm eat the roo-poo, this was in the Walaababangadoo at dusk many moons ago, ole Malc was a top bloke no doubt about it and he was known by the natives as Jabba babba barunga, roughly translates to syrupy shit beard, Malc had caught a roo placed some bread down and in the firelight we could see him give the rippuh a kick to the pouch making the biscuits so to speak, topped off with plenty of golden syrup it was his favorite bush tuckuh ill never forget all the times malc had a beard full of it
Why get upset about an introduced species and then talk about koalas being tasty! Plus all the feral cattle were going to be shot from the air and left to rot and be scavanged

I love Red Dog. Don't see many of those.

Is is possible that Mr Douglas was the first to photograph Talbot Bay "Horizontal Falls" on CINE CAMERA????
Amazing!!!
Malcolm has one of the sharpest knives if seen
Oh, the kimberly...
