Grew up watching this, joined Australian Army after school, partly due to Maj Hidden's. Was posted in Darwin for 4 years. Left Army and worked as Nurse Practitioner in many of the Cape York communities Les goes to in his show. The work he has done is second to none. Incredible!. Having first had experience being out in many of the places in WA, NT, QLD..... For all,of you non Australians, these areas are unforgiving.....
As a kid in the netherlands this was my favourite show .. And it still is running circles around american stuff like bear gryllis etc @ABC thanks a million for putting these on you tube !!
It sure is. I wonder how they got those low aerial shots that would be done with a drone these days. They don't seem to be filmed from a full size heli as there's no visible downwash blowing the trees around.
Thanks for putting these on youtube ABC Aus :) my VHS quality version was great but this was like going to HD!. I must of watched every episode of the two series a hunderd times over the last 30 years. Relaxing and a differnt time, good times
While I know a lot of what Les shows, there is so much more he could teach me. If only I were a younger bloke and Les was still doing his bush trips and willing to take me along, I'd be in heaven. I've always loved the bush and have seen quite a bit of it with my dog and will go on loving it til the day I die which sadly isn't far away with my lung disease. That's life I guess.
I met Les in the early 2000's in Sydney at an Overlander Magazine industry event. The stories he has are amazing, I could listen to him talk for days. Never did find the Land Rover model car he had hidden.
My Uncle who repaired Farm Machinery in Iowa, was a fan of K.I.S.S. And so am I. I build lots of odds and ends, for camping, fishing and my recumbent bike, and the trailers I can pull behind it. These shows are top notch.
Thank you ABC Australia for not geo blocking this, he's knowledge is the difference between life and death. Our closest version of him in the UK is Ray Mears but I think he has retired to spend more time with his family.
Watched several of these now - reminds me of school holidays in the 90s when they were on British TV. I can't help but wonder how many of the outtakes involved Les' own bush nuts falling out of his shorts.
3.47. Oh I remember those fuel prices… $24 bucks for 32 litres or near about. The days When fuel ,electricity, and water weren’t a life changing( budget) factor. I have a 70 litre tank in my Ute and today it cost me just shy of $ 150. 00!
Beautiful shots from the air in that time with helicopter. Can imagine the cost of production having to use a helicopter. Now drones are doing the work. As We sit here in Northern Canada freezing our butts off and shovelling show all winter We are green with envy of the gorgeous weather year round in Australia. You are definitely the man to camp with. Thanks for posting, great series. This Canadian loves Australia.
Wish todays camera equipment and drones would have been available for Lez. Can't see anyone nowadays putting in the effort into documenting all of this. Keep it up Lez!
$25 for 35 litres...back then remote servos wouldve been charing like wounded bulls but thats still a fraction of what it costs today. the same amount costs $70 now..
Ahh yes.... When fuel was around 60 to 70c/L... I miss the low fuel prices and the simplicity of having a family night around the tv watching Les and Malcolm.
this has to be my favourite episode of all the series. Can watch these over and over. Does anyone know where the service station is located? Just interested to trace Le's steps
3:42 Back when petrol was less than a dollar a litre, thats cheap as. Bush tucker better watch out because when les is out there is no chance of hiding.
When I bought my first motor vehicle, petrol was 36 cents a gallon for Super (High Octane) 1967 prices, and T-Bone Steak from your local Butcher, was 79 cents a pound.
I'm not completely sure but it's definitely some model of Ruger, another guy in the comments says it's a Ruger Redhawk but so hard to tell from what we can see in the footage, either way I wonder if Les still has it.
They are really doing different things. Grylls's programs (as far as I've seen) are about coping with misadventures in isolated places, with the aim of getting back to civilization after just a few days. There are plenty of others, too, who seem to operate on a short time-frame to 'survive' for a few days, maybe stretching out to a week. They seem to me to take more risks than they should with some foods that might cause you illness, with the safety blanket of being able to take antibiotics and/or worming tablets once back to the modern world. Of course, those higher risk things make for a more exciting program for a mass audience. Hiddens, and Ray Mears, are about being able to live in a remote environment and learned their vast knowledge from many tribal people who are still connected to and living in their homelands that look to us westerners like untouched wilderness.
The bees are still in that post to. Was there earlier this year
@colinevans3285 where is this servo? Would love to check it out.
Imagine the honey 🍯

The Cinematography absolutely makes this every time - its just bloody fantastic
“Meadow cakes [buffalo dung]…always give’em a kick first, that way you’ll find out whether they’re cooked enough…” Classic Les 😄
Those sting less bees are so tempting.. hmmmm..
My favourite show as a kid. Love Bush Tucker Man
As a kid in the netherlands this was my favourite show .. And it still is running circles around american stuff like bear gryllis etc

Bear Grills is British not American and ex SAS get your facts right .
B Grylls is a total phony.

Les is a national treasure
I could watch this man all day. A wealth of survival knowledge, he even taught Ray Mears a thing or two.👍
He was a forward scout in Vietnam,3 tures.
I met Les in the early 2000's in Sydney at an Overlander Magazine industry event. The stories he has are amazing, I could listen to him talk for days. Never did find the Land Rover model car he had hidden.
Thanks Aunty for releasing this series, just a marvellous watch in beautiful country
@@nahyeahwhatsahandle it's a nickname for the ABC, which I believe originally came from the BBC.
The fuel pump displays look upside down now 😅
Great flick as always 🤠
Magic series.
Gee I miss these shows.
The real Crocodile Dundee.
Man...to hang out with Les would be great. He's such a likable and knowledgeable guy.
My Uncle who repaired Farm Machinery in Iowa, was a fan of K.I.S.S. And so am I. I build lots of odds and ends, for camping, fishing and my recumbent bike, and the trailers I can pull behind it. These shows are top notch.
ABC Australia you made my day! 😀
Les is such a hardass that he has a hobby that involves picking up baked cow poop and not only does he not complain about it, he made a show about it
This is a top 5 episode. Top stuff!
This is awesome.. true blue Aussie..
Thank you ABC Australia for not geo blocking this, he's knowledge is the difference between life and death. Our closest version of him in the UK is Ray Mears but I think he has retired to spend more time with his family.

Odd thing to wonder
This is a brilliant tv show. 😃👍

3x the price in almost 30 years. It’s not that bad. Houses doubling every 10 so it’s about par
Always. Great to. Watch. An expert. In action

Ahh yes.... When fuel was around 60 to 70c/L... I miss the low fuel prices and the simplicity of having a family night around the tv watching Les and Malcolm.
Great episode.
You can also eat lotus root and stem. It's great.
Some rough maths at time 3:42.. 75 cents a litre for fuel. Ahh thems were the days, lol.
this has to be my favourite episode of all the series. Can watch these over and over. Does anyone know where the service station is located? Just interested to trace Le's steps
Same here! I've watched the series 3 times this year and I'm pretty sure this episode is my favourite. So relaxing
They're talking about culling those water buffalo again, on this very channel.
Banyan tree- reminds me of Hothouse, by Brian Aldiss 😎
You bloody beauty
I paused when I saw the petrol price at the bauser.
Unequalled.
The fuel prices at the beginning
Are those showers available anywhere? I can’t find anything similar
72.9 cents a litre! Wow!
Do you reckon ABC would air this series today?.......
Did anyone notice there was no Tell-Tail on his boat motor ?
Love your videos, But you would never get me within a mile of a river with Crocs in it .
3:43 mark really hits home $23 for 32 litres of petrol
Any one know what kind of revolver that was
I'm not completely sure but it's definitely some model of Ruger, another guy in the comments says it's a Ruger Redhawk but so hard to tell from what we can see in the footage, either way I wonder if Les still has it.
Check out those fuel prices at 3.41
How far up the Murray river mileswise could one go in a likewise boat filled with one tankfull of petrol?
Less than a dollar a litre :)
Dam check the price of fuel triple that now
Hey?..what kind of hat is Les wearing?
litres of fuel > dollars, those where the days.
Who can tell me what the revolver is?
Ruger Redhawk 44 Rem Mag.
Now all we get is wokness……… auntie died.
Hope he washed his hands before eating that toast
Back when petrol was cheap
Fuel at $1.37/L
$1.37??????..... That was about 70c/L
How old is this show ? 24.00 for 34 liters of fuel !!!!!!
1989
Would you trust this guy or Bear Grylls?
They are really doing different things. wow 33 liters of fuel for $24.50...
Ha ha.. we know what happened when last time a person ate a bat..😉🤣🚫 💉
