you know it, I got an 86 honda trx 200 quad from the dump last summer.
I spent about 75$ on a carb and throttle cable , a bit of my time cleaning the fuel tank out and fixing the rope starter...ride it all over the place here 🙂

My 7.3 has been humming along for 25 years and around a million miles for me. I have been feeding her Cosby sauce since day 1, glow plugs are for pansies. I run any kind of fluid that will flow through the filter and she burns it. I especially love the smell of french fry oil and my 7.3 loves it. She is a custom crew cab dually and just got a new skin and floors waiting for my slow ass to get the body work done and spray it.
Fun Fact: It will pull a full trailer loaded up a hill in 1st or 2nd gear with the starter.
If only Ford company was watching and learning and taking notes on how to bring back they're good trucks back
They just need to partner back up with international. With that said, all the emissions BS that they have to add to trucks these days kill diesel engines. 😢

There little doubt the engine in slave lake’s slap worn out, but it would be cool to see just how worn out it really is. The piston crowns would be cool to see too, I guarantee there’s some major nicks and divots in some of them from the rocks and metal she’s eaten.

The glow plug removal technique was epic. Ive used the starter before to blow out stuck or broke plugs and all the guys in the shop took cover like i chunked a grenade out in the middle of the floor... Cant wait for the next time might just crank it up and watch em scatter lmao Stunned 😳
This truck, hell all IDI mills still on the road, are the reason why I wanted one and got one. Can't wait to dive into mine more and make it a nice rig. Gonna be my Rally car hauler and heavy recovery rig for my friends who offroad.

Awesome Video, Peg. I got a glow plug stuck in a 6.2 years ago, it didn’t break off but was swelled up so we couldn’t get it out of the head. So we did the crank to remove, it sounded like a gun going off, hit the AC line and broke it on its way out, we never found the glow plug. I had to laugh at darned near the whole video. Keep up the good work, Slave lake should be in Ford Advertisements from now on.

Factory plugs are 6v and run through a resistor but you can get aftermarket 12 ones that you can run right to the batter they are wayyy tougher

I made a similar glow plug "indicator" on my VW Rabbit after the 3rd or 4th controller sharted itself. Used a Ford starter relay and a 5th plug sticking up out of the cowl vent.
Push a button till it's red, then hit the key. Worked pretty well for something cobbled out of old Ford parts and whatever trash I had laying around.
I hope I get to meet this man before I get sent overseas, I know that’s a wild ass dream but boy would it be nice. Ol peg gave me lots of confidence working on old fords throughout my few years on this planet

I had an old bulged up ether glow plug bust apart and my IDI lasted about 15 mins driving down the road. This is how ether kills 7.3 mills. Get a motors handy from one of those other junk trucks. Your channel is good shit. Keep on keeping on.

My 6.9 IDI had stuck glow plugs too. Had to get a slide hammer with a vice grip attachment and they popped right out!

Reminds me of my towing days I had a F350 tow rig and had to move this shitty old full size school bus and pulling it out from where she sat the front end of the truck was 2 to 3 feet in the air and once I got it going I had to put some weight in the front end because I could not turn corners anyway I made it the 5 or 6 km to he final resting place of the derelict school bus. It was a fun time I have a few pics of the truck with the bus in the back with the front tires in the air. It was one of the best tow jobs I had

They are a very tough diesel engine 7.3 idi diesel engine can always give a very good edge at anytime international harvester company did a very good job on that engine
I just got a minty 1998 vw jetta I put a straight pipe on it for old peg! Now it makes turbo noises and runs on radio active horse piss
I did that on two cylinders on a 3.0 sprinter... the bane of my existance.. I work on a fleet of 30 of them at one of my fleet contract jobs. Worked great!!!

IDIs have 2 economy ratings. MPG, and GPPM. Miles per gallon, and glow plugs per mile. I run my IDI on trash oil too, and yeah, it just eats glow plugs for breakfast. Way it goes.
Also I love how absurdly overbuilt those trucks are. Trans is only rated for 470 ft/lbs, but 3x that is fine. 3000lbs payload, but double that is still fine. Towing that hard with no head gaskets, half a cooling system, and down at least 1 redundancy cylinder? You don't worry about any of that.
