I live in south east texas on the gulf coast about an hour and a half from Louisiana. Everywhere I go I see our powersmoke and obs brethren parked under trees, forgotten, abandoned, and a ton in use as work trucks. I dont see many prime well kept examples. I've always welded the side gears to the carrier and then to each other.
That way if you break an axle you can still replace it.

if you just weld the gears to the side of the carrier and not the gears together and your weld breaks, the gears just spin like they did before, and you then you can reweld it ( probably wont break ). best way i figure.
@@AA-tb4ff that's exactly what I said. To the carrier and each other. Meaning the the 2 pinion gears on the cross shaft.
@@shtboxyj8406 just weld the side gears that the axle shafts go into, weld them to the case, thats it. dont weld the the other two gears that go on the cross pin at all. just four welds on the side gears that way theres no welding over the teeth. that way if it breaks your teeth still mesh and your diff is just open again

love the ragging out of old IDI's.. you need to find a 6.2 or 6.5 gm diesel to run through.. I got a 92 6.2 and it's got the same injection pump as the idi, and smokes alot with no power
My idi needs injectors, & I’m running her on 50/50 atf to diesel with some engine oil, & she’s freakin mint. Been having issues w the cooling system, but almost got her sorted out.🤞

Thanks for the minty vidjo im wrenching on the forth drove my lifted xterra with lockers 33 mt's and a snorkel out to push a jet boat off a rock bar in the river and a chinesium hose clamp at the throttle body gave out and she drank all the h2o and went for a swim down river and fryed the fuel pump but starts right sassy on starting fluid so she's good just need to drain the fish fuel out and put in a new pump and filters possibly new injectors because send it barb happened after dehydrolocking but wasn't going to loose the one testicle I have left love ya bud
