Ugh, the one thing I hated about the game. Everyone was poor unless you were good at merching (which wasn't me..) Literally the only reason I stopped playing original maplestory is because I reached level 12x and could no longer afford the potions to play lol -.- Although to be fair I could've farmed some bosses with a guild but it was about that time that maple started undergoing some really big changes...
Yeah man. Messo paradise haha. At henesy snail map where lv70 to 120 ks us while we still happy to be the 5star cleaner to clean up those messo....if i am not wrong its 2 to 17meso lol
The interaction I had on the ship to Orbis was one of a kind. Always 30 - 40 players from all level ranges waiting to board the ship and everyone talking amongst each other. Always that anticipation of poking my head out to see if balrogs spawned or not.
Right? Old Maplestory was like a real-time anime episode playing out right before your eyes. A new adventure every day. Slow, rewarding, methodical training. Unique skills, unique players, unique well-known heroes in the world. The game marinated. It was slow, but it burned with passion. I remember being on the boat or plane or train as well. Striking up a conversation with a high level player, who then added me and served as a valuable connection later on in my quest in the game. It's little things like this that made the game amazing. It was an actual.... story.
wow, I think this has to be the realest of the comments. Waiting for the Balrog, talking to other NEW players as you crossed was always a unique experience.
@@emslate6000 Every map is marked with a portal when you pass by it. Even hidden ones. Yes, I am aware there are a handful of maps that aren't marked, but there aren't usually training maps, or anything interesting.
@Pokémon catcher Ash That is a VERY false statement. Lately they have shown to be listening to the community a lot. Nexon got a lot more transparent. "OLD MS" wasn't good. It was arranged badly, and it wasn't friendly to newcomers. The top percentage of players were EVEN MORE alienated than it is today. Also, you quite literally had to spend A LOT of time walking. No flash jump, no teleports, just... walk. A lot. And wait. And attack slowly. That wasn't fun. People neglect these parts. Maps that stretch a VERY long distance offering very little content. That was old MS.
@@HolyGiraffeMapleStory Phantom forest has maps that have same name (for example there's 5 maps named "crossroads") Optimal for hide & seek :D, and current maple has one major problem for beginners. Once they reach lvl where they need some dmg (around 170), they can't really do anything for a while and currently higher lvl stuff is so expensive that it takes ages if you can't leech anyone on higher bosses.
All of the modern maplers: meeeeh but the game needed evolve and i like it being easier and- Ah i freaking hate this argument because the newer players like having a 1st place trophy. Remember when hitting 30 was a big deal? Level 60? 70? 80? Even just gaining ONE level after hitting 30+ was rewarding! I miss the old days.....
@Drift King Look at League of Legends..... It's a 100% team game and people are still toxic, hate each other and ruin good fun for no reason other than immaturity. It's not maple, it's not gaming, it's society that's fucking shit now.
@@asparrow9876 Pretty much ALLLLLLLLLLL pvp games are toxic now. There is no point in being toxic tbh. I use to play league.... until 2015. Too toxic for me. HELL EVEN THE LEAST LIKELY GAME TO BE TOXIC, CLUB PENGUIN, IS TOXIC.
Honestly, the best part about old maplestory was that each job class had their own unique skill that other classes didnt have. thieves had flash jump and haste for mobility. Bandits were the only class who could hit multi line. Warriors had Rage and hyperbody. Since warriors didnt have any mobility, they had to get a piggy mount lol. mages had amazing AoE attack. Bishop with heals. Bowmasters were the only class with super attack speed. Now thats all gone. I dont know what nexon were thinking when they decided to give every class a haste, flashjump, rage, etc. The unique skills that each class was perfect imo. If nexon ever does decide to make a old school maplestory server, i'd def come back
Agreed, it was really fun to need a balanced party and have to think about team comp, every class having their strong moments. It was also really fun that bosses took a lot longer to kill and felt like a real fight, everyone had to perform their job well and work as a team. Even alishar in the LPQ felt like that! Good times.
Well said the unique skills and jobs giving different contribution to the party (only 6 people), the difficulty all around to level up gain mesos and to advance was pretty high tier but there were so many players and so many helpful players that the difficulty was fun and rewarding, and the last thing I notice in difference is the playstyle seems so different it seems hard to die and no one is moving and using spells at the same time to dodge damage they are all just face tanking in the middle of the mob
player interaction change cuz they saw what the game become.. New players the moment that someone open Their eyes end let him see the prices in $ that the moment they get cold feet and delete the game.. most of the player are young and cant pay that money.. if nexon was realizeing it Maple would not be that lonely.. Botters run the game not nexon no Botters No economy..
@@user-uo2sl5us8f 100% right man.. Not friendly anymore the only reason maple still playable cuz of botters and ''wills'' mean only the ppl that dont mind lose more then 50% of calary for the game .. and thos who dont mind drop money cuz they have a lot..
I feel like player interaction is a major problem in a lot of mmo's right now. Reasons being it's so oversaturated, people playing maple most of the time have a show playing in the background, the game is much easier now and social media is really accessible right now aswell (Discord).
@@nathaniel7103 discord still dont say its Social its only for prices and items... let me know what u think about the items prices.. its look legit? for a totem 2000$ man.. be honst with ur answer..
haha, I remember my very first character back on maple island... I sailed to victoria island and walked all the way from lith harbour to henesys as I didn't realise taxis were a thing! I asked some random stranger if they could take me to ellinia as I wanted to be a mage. They literally spent 10 minutes of their time and walked me there! Then gave me some old health potions they no longer needed. God, the sense of community in old maplestory was incredible.
@@Wat3rDragon yup, i remember when we used to split maps to grind when all channels were full, most people i saw were super friendly Farming at jesters on my aran was so fun
I remember as a kid I got stuck in el nath just below orbis in old maple... I couldn’t figure out how to get back up considering I’d die every time I tried to go up the tower. For a few hours I’d log in to ask the locals for help with the cry face ... xD Just when I thought I lost my character these super nice people partied up and decided to help me it was so dramatic trying to get me up the tower without dying because I get teleported back to el nath.. 😂 it’s funny looking back because my character was only level 13 but it meant so much that I saved my little character as a kid. Once they finally got my character up the tower after 274728482 attempts I tried to thank them but as a noob at the time I didn’t know how to :( anyway almost 10 years later thank you! (If any of them see this)
ahhhh ... bro, on kerning city i created like 5 different accounts just to do the the ludi robot quest, that gave you a robot summoning sack and then having fun killing noobs on all the map whit +1000 people, all you could hear was the death sound of all that people! memories.... :')
I love watching coppersan because he brings so much nostalgia. I remember using my free lvl 100 character to make a paladin because of him... no regrets
spending a few minutes swinging away at Mushmom only for someone to show up, one shot it, and call me a slur before killing it on every single channel so I had to wait the hour for it to respawn...
they really should, so the morons who spam MapleStory's social media with "bring back pre-bb ms" and don't know how to use google to find private servers can disappear for eternity
honestly surprised and a bit worried that we haven't already seen that. I'm sure nexon is aware, and it wouldn't be difficult to run an older version with minor tweeks
I think one of the biggest changes to the game has been how the game's platforming works. At 4:20 (lol) on the right that player jumps off the rope, punches the slime to knock it back, and then jumps over so they wouldn't fall off the edge of the platform. That kind of thing doesn't happen anymore. Making sure you don't fall off the edge of a platform used to be a core part of the game. It would waste a lot of time and you could end up taking a lot of damage or even fall to your death into a pit of golems while going from Henesys to Sleepywood. Lots of classes now have some stance and most warriors and pirates have 100% stance. Even if you fall in modern maps it's usually just a little annoying and you vertical jump or teleport back to where you were immediately. It doesn't really matter anymore where your character is in relation to the mobs or how many mobs there are around you. Platforming has also been greatly simplified because of the simplified map structure. Almost all the new maps and all the maps that were reworked in the Victoria Island map update now have large, flat, easy to navigate platforms. The terrain is regular and the platforms are smooth. Navigating the maps used to take some skill or at least a great deal of caution if you were lower level than the mobs.
The fact that leveling nowadays is like solo and boring, back then a party of 3 to 6 people slightly fast and the most fun part is you can chat while grinding the mobs.
Don't get me wrong tho I'm not complaining I actually like fast paced games 😅 especially because there's a million classes and I love to reroll a lot xD
It was the angelic buster one I guess, its not like that for everyone he had a few things to level up that fast one of those was the tera burning where you get 3levels instead of 1 every time you level up,he had tons of xp multiplier s and friends helping him out with power skills,he was just prepared for the occasion :v
I know but you can still play like before, just don't use real money for cubing and don't buy ex coupons, I've benn playing like that not because I want to but because I can't afford them and believe me it takes a long time to level up let alone bossing lmao
Screw it, nobody can powerlevel that fast... *sees Angelic Buster PowerLevel 10-200 IN 19 MINS! by MisusingTV* Oh gosh, who thought a Sailor Moon clone would get so many levels so quickly? Too bad I used up all of my Tera Burns on USEFUL mule characters.
Remember it taking FOREVER to get to level 30 and how hyped I was when I finally was able to create a guild, really miss the old version with 4 classes and a ton of players
Dude I remember my older brother (he was like 10 at the time, I was 7) getting to level 30 on his thief. It was an EVENT dude. Me and him both huddled around the old CRT monitor and were so nervous doing the second job advancement quest. He picked bandit. Seeing him use the savage blow skill for the first time and multihitting green mushrooms was SO cool. Definitely one of my favorite childhood memories.
Yeah, hitting class landmarks these days doesn't even warrant an unenthusiastic "yay". Takes no effort and is a whole lot of nothing. Even with 5th Advancement. I remember 70 being a HUGE landmark for me and while the grind was real, at least I felt like I accomplished something in the game back then. Nowadays everything feels so damn hollow.
The most that has changed over these years is the community in general. Everything is solo pending on how strong you are. Back then there was actual community engagement
I miss the social Aspect alot (Party Quests etc...). These Days its all about your Damage Numbers. And i think the Luna Server is pretty empty and i dont know why.
Luna problem is probably that at one point it was quite much left unnoticed and that caused botters to ruin quite a bit of the game. Now it's better but the ppl have just quit.
People always quit and come back.. espely in a time there isnt much to do in the game.. the game is also old so.. Ya And the fact that Nexon kinda ignored luna completely for some time (and still do just less so nowdays..) didnt really helped
I really miss the social aspect of it, too. I've been a lifelong Broa player (since 2006), and while the first world transfer/merge happened, it was nice to see more people, but it's still dead. The game doesn't really "begin" until 5th job now. 1-200 is just a race (fastest I've seen is 19 minutes). If the social aspect of it could be revived, it would do Nexon's player base an immense service.
I miss the days when Tiger aka Gavin was #1 on the rank.. The level cap was 200 and he never managed to even get there.. I miss the times where it took you like 2 whole months to get to level 70 and do the 3rd job quest with the dark crystal and all those questions.. I really miss the old maplestory.. the times i struggle to make mesos and be a pro..
iammoshe1 It took me 1,5 years to get to level 49 lol the journey was long and full of interaction. It wasn’t only about the levelling, I had alot of sessions where I didn’t do anything combat related.
I'm in the process of making a 2D side scrolling game that is alike to old maplestory. Similar art, a little rougher but still cute in a way. Distinctive classes with each their unique abilities. A slow, methodical and rewarding way of leveling. Another point of main focus is community. No auction house, trading is done in person and party leveling is promoted. A game we all long for and deserve.
Remem'ba when taking the ships that lasted 30mins? Remem'ba when Bolrog ship came in and low stats people hid away? The Nostalgia is just strong. . . .I miss it.
MetalPcAngel ahahaha it took so long to level then, my old highest lvl was a 55 dexless sin and since we only had bathrobes, i’d die in 1 hit to the bolrogs 😂
My first ride to orbis lvl 22 as a mage in khaini I got killed by Balrogs. Then out of nowhere some girl came and sprayed poison everywhere and started exploding the map with fire. It was “khainimage” I think that was her name. Unbeknownst to me the highest lvl mage in the server. I asked her what he class was and she said “ Fire poison” I became a fire poison mage only to find out she was using 3rd job skills. Took me 4 years of on and off gameplay to get to 3rd job with my mage. She influenced me greatly and those were fun times.
It's nice how chairs back then were actually relevant on your gameplay, since potions were a lot more expensive and you had way less HP. MP recovery chairs, for warriors, were really sweet! Nowadays, they're almost useless, almost entirely cosmetic xD
I can still remember the day they released 3rd job. And god, the old login screen... Things I definitely do not miss is the horrible traveling. Having to wait 30 mins for the boat to Orbis, crazy. And grinding/leveling is both good and bad. Old Maple took too long, but current Maple is too fast. It doesn't feel rewarding at all.
Awesome that you still react! Ik kan me niet herinneren wanneer ik voor het eerst een video van jullie had bekeken maar dat is echt rond de tijd dat jullie ook begonnen.
I miss the much larger population. I just got back into MapleStory recently. They need to port MapleStory to Mac OS to really increase the number of players given how many people use Mac OS now.
This really bring me back to nostalgia, I still remember when maplestory introduced pvp and the fight was so unbalanced it was so funny!!! And playing party quest like slime was fun because no one could rope jump!! Hope coppersan see this!
Yeah IDC what anyone says, ever since they introduced cubes the game became a giant pay-2-win that it is today, not only that but its all purely based on luck. You can get the most OP weapon with a basic cube or you could buy it your self.. There is no skill/experience or anything required.
I feel like general accessibility is the biggest change over the years and includes most of the thing you mentioned in the video. I played maple for the first time before the introduction of things like the Cygnus knights and 4th job, and even if you were willing to spend some cash on nx to buy items it was still very difficult to progress and feel like you were actually strong. I remember pretty clearly my first ever character, dex-less assassin, and finally reaching 3rd job and feeling like I’d finally be really powerful with the shadow clone so I could hit a monster for four lines. Only to my dismay I found that I needed large stacks of summoning stones to actually use my 3rd job skill, and summoning stones were already difficult to farm and really expensive at the free market. The summoning stones really broke me down, after spending all this money trying to get good equips and throwing stars, mana potions were expensive back then too and did t drop from monsters, and then on top of this I needed the summoning stones to use and important 3rd job skill. These days getting to level 200 and getting 5th job is relatively easy even for brand new players, every class has strong and useful skills to help them progress, potions are so frequent and plentiful from monsters and especially gollux that running out is practically impossible, and it’s easy to acquire and upgrade equipment decently enough to get you to 5th job and sustain you through the early part of the arcane river. Further upgrading equipment may be more difficult but is 100% feasible even without spending any of your actual money. Finally, even though most people just power grind their characters to get to the arcane river there’s still tons of quests to do if you wanna just have some fun on the side or explore more of the game. In my opinion it really is a much friendlier experience overall to everyone.
I used to love getting into a kerning PQ and trying to hold that channel for hours to get from 21 - 30 to finally get second job. At the very end of the PQ we would send a scout out to see if there were any other parties trying to take our spot in that channel. Sometimes if we were scouting a different channel that was full we would all hide or pretend to be afk when their scout came out to try and take it away from the other parties... Good times.
As much as I have nostalgia for the old maplestory, I think right after big bang was my personal favorite maplestory, I tried playing recently and I can't stand the game anymore, the UI is terrible and the game doesn't feel like maplestory.
I agree; Big Bang didn't ruin Maple, Big Bang to 2013 was like the sweet spot for the best Maple. Big Bang fixed a lot of problems and freshened up the game in terms of looks (UI) and classes (old Wind Archer ftw). After 2013 came a lot of huge revamps, including ruining the uniqueness between classes in terms of utility (it's all about skill flashiness that set them apart now). V Update just capitalized on the aesthetics, including changing the UI (again), and set the game even farther apart from the old Maple. I still play the game, but I still miss and would gladly play an older version of Maple that isn't focused around skills that cover the entire screen and crash your system. Only things still keeping me playing are the amazing music and character/monster designs (and some theme dungeons, Detective Rave and Mushroom Castle are a few favorites). Probably going to stop when I have to set this game aside for more time in life.
One big thing that has changed is the creativity in the map design. At some point every map became a few flat platforms with no thought required in navigating or managing the map.
Back then grinding was harder, but bit was also way more later back. now days the grind is much more about exp and meso rates and we have a lot of buffs like kishin, mvp, runes and such. I miss the slow chill vibes I got from old days grinding but I also think it was a good change now that there is more to do during the grind and it is both faster and a lot more fun! A lot of people say that one of the fun parts was talking to the people in the party. I totally agree with that, the thing is that it isn't gone. You can still talk to friends to going in a party and staying in different maps or just by whispering them and if you want to get really close you can just call them on Discord or Skype. The social aspect hasn't really been removed, just adapted. If one wants to start playing maple again, they should not look back on the old days and dream about DEX-less sins but do just as the game did all those years back and still do, adapt
Damn bro can’t believe you’re still at it making maple videos. Haven’t played live maple in years cause it sucks but keep at it homie. Remember watching you’re videos when I was a kid, thanks for teaching my former self the hot leveling spots.
The game has become way easier and way less social in my opinion. I was among the first waves of people hitting level 200 in bera, in the year following fangblade getting there. It took insane effort. I played every single day and when I wasn't playing, my shop was open. I recently came back after many years of hiatus and started playing reboot (because bera is dead now) and I hit level 200 in around five days. I am glad that cubes are easier to acquire without spending mesos now but the rest of the game seems like a lame version of what it used to be. It's literally easier to level up now at level 190-200 than it was at level 30 in 2007. Nobody talks to strangers. No reason to work together besides certain endgame bosses. I remember guilds used to actually do stuff together in-game. I used to have a maxed out buddylist. Used to be able to shoot the shit with strangers on the boat to orbis. I feel so much nostalgia for this game and it makes me sad knowing it'll never be how it was again. I started playing in 2005 a few days after the game came out in the U.S, I think I was 12 years old. I'm in my late 20's now.
Comparing a bit, the game server here in Brazil (where I live) ended in 2011 and left us missing a lot, the BMS (Brazil Maple Story) only had the explorer classes (neither pirate had, always said it would arrive) and it never came) but still it was full, the number of people who played was huge, the server had people everywhere and I still see people from Brazil who ask Nexon to reopen the server here, this game brings me a nostalgia Amazing, I now have a char in GMS on Reboot, but currently I play on an alternate server here in Brazil that did exactly the same was the old BMS, it is filling, I hope you come back with everything here in Brazil!
I stopped playing a while ago. You wanna know what was really fun? Getting together with 1 or 2 friends and spending like 2 hours exploring weird parts of the map so one of us could complete an obscure quest that gave a shitty reward. It was so much fun. I still get together with old maplers, and we have lots of fond memories of that.
I started playing in like 2005 or so, back then you would spend enough time in a zone long enough to get to learn an area and getting equipment your level that you wanted felt like an achievement. I tried to play a while back, but i leveled up way too fast and replaced eqiupment like every 10mins. Whenever i got to a new place, within 30mins i was already moving on. Edit: Oh, and for some reason i miss having to wait with people 15ish mins for traveling between islands on that flying ship
You miss it because it made the game world feel more real. It encouraged socialization with other players. It felt like you were on an actual adventure.
I had an Ice light mage level 41. With magic claw I used to hit two lines of 300 each, but then I saw for the first time an assassin training and hitting two lines of 450, dude that made me mad because I'd invested so much time in that char, and seeing someone "effortlessly" hitting way more than me was inadmissible. Good old days.
for me what changed the most is the feeling you get when playing maple, i remember back in the day everything was filled with players, you could chat with many of them, go explore together, make some random stuff while riding to orbys, even dying together against c. balrog or be the hero there, ohhhh the hero of pig beach by killing that iron pig. Now, is sooo lonely to play maple, i rather play another game by myself than playing ms and remember those good old days
And what I miss the most is definitely having to spend half to an hour to finish a pq like ludi pq and orbis pq and we got so mad when someone lost their piece in orbis pq (didn’t collect it and it disappear) as we would fail the whole pq without that piece. There’s a lot bug that could cause you to fail a whole pq last time so we had to be extra careful and plan it out. And I miss the boss CRA that we have to fight for the necklace in a guild and spend the whole day planning for everyone to be there.
I do miss those days of old maplestory, the most defining memories of my days playing in my youth was hanging out with my friends and guild, exploring places we were too low level to be in. Makes me a little sad that things changed so much.
Man, illbi .. I actually found one back in the days on my main assassin !! Way back in pre bang the memories and joy when it dropped !! Thanks for the video and memories for me!!
Old school 800x600 resolution really brought you into the world, it made you feel like you were inside the game. Now it is zoomed out so much, with so many flashy large skills, it is easy to forget there is even a character there, just a tiny blob of random equipment with different flashy skills than other people. Back then you could at least see the graphics, because they were big enough to see all the tiny details.
Then : Doing 10k damage actually felt awesome. Now : Doing 1893749856712481857890723197591723173 damage covering 3/4 of your screen and still feel like you need 28917902671204981750927894137129 more damage fonts to cover the remaining 1/4
Seriously, that's the first thing that comes to mind when I watch Maple videos from nowadays. The damage was multiplied tenfolds without any real reason to it; it just looks silly to deal millions and millions of damage points with simple attacks.
@@LolGui actually there is a reason. Money. They knew players like seeing big numbers back then since.. doing 5 digit was already considered alot. Miracle scroll/cubes or whatever hanky panky later got introduced and made the game even more imbalance and p2w. Bigger numbers feed the ego of whales and.. more money generated. Everything snowballed to this stage to even make cash fonts to make your billion damage look nicer. Nexon will forever be part of the top scummy game dev no matter how globally successful they are
I remember how we rushed back in Kerning City to reenter the PQ and some of us using autoclickers to spam the NPC to get in before the slot gets taken.
I think the thing I hate the most about the new Maple is how flashy everything is now with giant-ass numbers covering up the entire screen and insanely big cash shop effects. It's like they feel their combat is boring so their solution was covering it up to make sure we can't see it. The downside is I can't feel anything I'm doing.
When I was a kid I started super early. Like before the big bang. Then I stopped until I became a teen and everything changed. I was both relieved and sad. I missed the old huge maps. Today in a reboot world I'm still finding new and exciting changes.
I have been playing since 2006, had played on and off since then, and I quit around 2013. I have recently come back to notice a few things are ... different. I miss the Ludi PQ among other PQs, but I mostly accepted the loss of engagement on those because those had been dying for a while before they really died. I miss the travel on the ship to Orbis with the bants about the Crimson Balrog, and luring newbies out onto the deck for a special treat ... I miss the groups at Henesys Hunting Ground and near the FM entrance. BUT WHAT THE HELL HAVE THEY DONE TO MY FM AND SCANIA?
I use to browse every shop in the FM first thing when I logged in to see all the cool items I could never afford... I had so much fun doing that as a kid for whatever reason
I remember buying my first set of steelies when they were crazy expensive, only to lose it in a drop game in the Kerning City hospital area. I honestly miss CPQ more than anything. Good times, good times
The old mushroom house in Hennessys all the way to the right where everyone would hangout and literally just talk for hours. You could go there at 3 am and there would still be people chilling there.
Can you make a video if i want to play maplestory now , i quit playing it since 2013 i think , i was bowmaster lvl 230 i think , should i give it a try ?
Are the servers on Maplestory quite bad still? I played it again the last summer (or the summer before that) and I remembered there were long load times when moving from room to room. If not, I'd love to fire up gameplay on the reboot server again!
I miss how as noob you fell to the lupins and you were like 'man cute monkey' and then the guy stars trowing bananas like crazy and kills you. Now the maps are for babys.
I just wanted to say that there are good stuff about new maplestory that the old maplestory couldn't offer us back then, more characters. people love new characters in anygame and 40 classes is honestly amazing to have. Smaller maps imo it is much more comfortable because u can finally get to maps more easily as a noob. I dont have other ideas but these are the newer patches that i think a lot of people love and understand.
I think that the thing that changed the most of the map lay outs. Back then the maps were extremely big and you had a lot of platform to hoop on. Now, all the maps are small. Oh the monster also have a lot of changes. Their use to be monster that can easier kill you while you are still in the lvl range but now Im like a walking GOD that pass by everything than they die lol.
What's changed the most? For me, the response time of tickets sent about problems. Sure sometimes you get an automated message, but at least I don't have to wait a month anymore for a response just to hear back from them. They've gotten a lot better at getting back to us, and listening to feedback from the players. Love old maple, but also love current maple.
monster carnival and kerning pq was my favorite past time. missed the time when healer (cleric) , hyper body from dk, haste from theif is needed to just get through orbis pq. missed those days when warrior classes needed dex to survive. 😭😭😭😭
Things to add : - Back then to do Zakum prequest it was long , 7 keys , Jump quest and 30 golden teeth. Now it’s no prequest and it’s one shot it - Horntail prequest were a hassle everytime it was run, you have to collect the same materials for it. Now it’s just a click. - Pink Bean prequest were 999 kills back then and the chaos marble was not free , you always needed 10 mask of each monk and the 3 drops of the Temple of time bosses. Now it’s 200 kills (Used to be 333 during tempest patch) and chaos marble ia free once per day. - 4th job Skills back then required for you to kill Zakum for the book skill, or do a ques to get the skill. Also you needed 20 and 30 mastery books to completely master the skill 20(70% success) and 30(50% success). And the drop rate of mastery books were super low on mobs, and mostly on bosses . Now you just buy the books at the NPC. - The distribution of mobs level were kind of randomly back then , golems been level 50-65, been together with evil eyes( lvl 25 mobs) , and now an area will have mobs from the same level. - In addition to what I mentioned above , now the World Map shows you the level of the mob , what mob is located there , what NPC is there , and back then it was just a map ..... and it was up to the player to explore it. - The “End game bosses” back then were Zakum , Horntail , and Pink Bean. Papulatus and Pianus were more like “secret powerful bosses” that people could kill for rare drops or for fun, but were not as hard as the ones mentioned above. Now “end game” are like Lotus , Damien , Lucid , Will , Venus Hilla and the Black Mage. Chaos root abbys , Magnus, Gollux, future Empress are just complements to get stronger. - Finally , back then we didnt have many equips , Belt , Shoulder , badge , Emblem , secondaries ( well mages , warrior and bandits have shields), two pendants. Having an eye accessory or face accessory was considered already lucky.
To me, I like when Maple was hard, like you know right now you can teleport anywhere, back then you had to strive to get where you wanted to be, things like that
Level is so easy now but actually kinda cool for someone who played old school maple story. I was one of those people who made so many character but hardly ever made it to 3rd job. I think I only got my hermit and chief bandit to 3rd but it was crazy to think I could get to forth job lol. Now I can play my nostalgic Assassin I’d get to use him late game. Can’t wait for Tera burn.
Back in the day I used to solo mushmom on my dexless sin at like lv 30-40 cuz I bought loopEd's (i believe was his name) godly low level items. Like the lv 10 claw maxed with 10% scrolls, 12-15atk wg, 21+ dex bathrobes etc. I miss those days when 3-5k dmg at lv 35 was a lot. Now u can hit 10k on the tutorial island thing
not having enough money for potions so you had to sit to heal for like 5 minutes.

The interaction I had on the ship to Orbis was one of a kind.
Always 30 - 40 players from all level ranges waiting to board the ship and everyone talking amongst each other.
Always that anticipation of poking my head out to see if balrogs spawned or not.
Well that triggered some memories that were long forgotten
I wanna die man, theres nothing fun about this growing up
It was an actual.... story.
@@gamingandtech8710 yeah good times
wow, I think this has to be the realest of the comments. Waiting for the Balrog, talking to other NEW players as you crossed was always a unique experience.
Nothing was more satisfying then poking your head out and seeing the Balrog spawn, go back into the cabin and tell everyone it didnt spawn hahaha
I miss hidden streets.
Sense of discovery.
Telling my friends I am in a map they cannot find, and have them search for hours.
There are still maps like that. and some you can't even tele with tele rock.
@@emslate6000 yes but the feeling isn't the same. Back then the feeling if finding a hidden street had way more emotional value.

@Drift King Look at League of Legends..... It's a 100% team game and people are still toxic, hate each other and ruin good fun for no reason other than immaturity. It's not maple, it's not gaming, it's society that's fucking shit now.

Pretty much ALLLLLLLLLLL pvp games are toxic now.
If nexon ever does decide to make a old school maplestory server, i'd def come back
It really seems that, some gimmicks apart, all classes are the same. They have same skills that just have different visual effects.
How old are we talking here? Hermits raped bowmasters in DPS and could hit multi line. No other class mattered bossing.
Agreed, it was really fun to need a balanced party and have to think about team comp, every class having their strong moments. It was also really fun that bosses took a lot longer to kill and felt like a real fight, everyone had to perform their job well and work as a team. Even alishar in the LPQ felt like that! Good times.
the old is well balance character even kiling zakum it meant to be in party not alone..
The player interaction has changed the most. No doubt. It's very lonely in Maple.
player interaction change cuz they saw what the game become.. New players the moment that someone open Their eyes end let him see the prices in $ that the moment they get cold feet and delete the game.. most of the player are young and cant pay that money.. if nexon was realizeing it Maple would not be that lonely.. I asked some random stranger if they could take me to ellinia as I wanted to be a mage. They literally spent 10 minutes of their time and walked me there! Keep it up plz, I’m going to go crazy when you stop making these because you’re the only one doing it. The 10 year old in me needs it
I think one of the biggest changes to the game has been how the game's platforming works.
LOL when he was at the edge I got hardcore anxiety
The fact that leveling nowadays is like solo and boring, back then a party of 3 to 6 people slightly fast and the most fun part is you can chat while grinding the mobs.
Hariz Hafizi you can’t solo hard will inless you are that god from tms
well black mage you can't solo but other bosses are just matter of insane dmg which is reachable in any version of maple.

Ya
And the fact that Nexon kinda ignored luna completely for some time (and still do just less so nowdays..) didnt really helped

I remember unplugging my internet for the moon bunny PQ. Farm a bunch, then just crank out a bunch of PQs for quick EXP.
How's it coming along mate?
Sending a scout out to see if people were waiting for KPQ. Or being a dexless assassin destroying the competition in CPQ
Remem'ba when taking the ships that lasted 30mins?
Remem'ba when Bolrog ship came in and low stats people hid away?

0:52 ... that ringtone, so much memories. I just had shivers listening to it.
The sound you used for the title things. Starting up nostalgia
Getting arcane gear will sure be rewarding
it's quite much the same time required on grinding to get 1-275 now than 1-200 BBB
200 onwards is the real challenge. 10-200 doesn't really mean much now.

Reboot server is heavily populated daily. All channels are full. Cant say much for the other servers though .
This really bring me back to nostalgia, I still remember when maplestory introduced pvp and the fight was so unbalanced it was so funny!!! And playing party quest like slime was fun because no one could rope jump!! Hope coppersan see this!
I remember when you couldn't even pvp if you were in USA, only Asia servers could lol.
Cubes man.. game went downhill since cubes were introduced
In my opinion it really is a much friendlier experience overall to everyone.
being so happy when I can finally deal damage to blue mushrooms instead of it saying 'miss' all the time!

Man i will never get sick of this old maple man even if you the same video every time lol keep it up bro
wow totally forgot about the wizet sound during boot up!
Omg i remembered i was flexing my Maple Tree chair so much back in the good ol days haha.
Yep. I looked up to those players, viewed them idols/put them on a pedestal. Wanted to be like them. Man, how times have changed now lol
Good one
I started playing in like 2005 or so, back then you would spend enough time in a zone long enough to get to learn an area and getting equipment your level that you wanted felt like an achievement. I tried to play a while back, but i leveled up way too fast and replaced eqiupment like every 10mins. Whenever i got to a new place, within 30mins i was already moving on.
Edit: Oh, and for some reason i miss having to wait with people 15ish mins for traveling between islands on that flying ship
You miss it because it made the game world feel more real. It encouraged socialization with other players. It felt like you were on an actual adventure.
Sitting on chairs or hanging on rope to regenerate hp when i ran out of red potions in lith harbor .. the red snails are tough back then lol
Holy shit, you unlocked a memory I didn't know I had. Rope-hanging conversations really hit different back then
“Ppl were hanging in perion” dude! That’s 2005!!!
Sense of accomplishment post big bang totally destroyed
I miss monster carnival and old von lion castle T_T
And what I miss the most is definitely having to spend half to an hour to finish a pq like ludi pq and orbis pq and we got so mad when someone lost their piece in orbis pq (didn’t collect it and it disappear) as we would fail the whole pq without that piece. There’s a lot bug that could cause you to fail a whole pq last time so we had to be extra careful and plan it out. And I miss the boss CRA that we have to fight for the necklace in a guild and spend the whole day planning for everyone to be there.
i remember that pan lid was the only shield available that mages could only use and back then it cost 800k meso and that was already expensive
I also had the fence and palette shields. global.hidden-street.net/eq/armours/shield?class=34
Personally it was just the uniqueness of each class that made it fun.
Why do MMO's think it's a good idea to give each class everything?
Nexon will forever be part of the top scummy game dev no matter how globally successful they are
The old Maple : I met friends that will later be friends in real life and then for many years to come
I remember how we rushed back in Kerning City to reenter the PQ and some of us using autoclickers to spam the NPC to get in before the slot gets taken.
That blue chair was one of the top 5 most tedious quests.
I miss changing my Hair by collecting slimes in Ellinia
THIS! same story but with illbis :'(
I miss when leveling to 2nd job lvl 30 was an achievement. Having Ice lightning mage with maxed thunderbolt was a thing.
The old mushroom house in Hennessys all the way to the right where everyone would hangout and literally just talk for hours. You could go there at 3 am and there would still be people chilling there.
I miss my guild mates, and I still remember a player named VanillaBean who was with me to become a cleric for the first time.
I would do anything for a classic ms server pre ludi
Their use to be monster that can easier kill you while you are still in the lvl range but now Im like a walking GOD that pass by everything than they die lol.
wow that was so true i used to walk around to all the shops hoping i could snipe something for cheap
Shh, praising current Maple is verboten in this comment section
@@pirateizzy Oh you're right! I had forgotten! But...is it fine to talk about how great future maple is?
@@KyoWantsCute
Only if it contains an old school server and all new changes/updates are deleted
@@pirateizzy Then I shall stay silent!
hahaha
i spent more time in the FM than actually leveling up my character back in the days
monster carnival and kerning pq was my favorite past time. missed the time when healer (cleric) , hyper body from dk, haste from theif is needed to just get through orbis pq. missed those days when warrior classes needed dex to survive. 😭😭😭😭
Things to add :
- Back then to do Zakum prequest it was long , 7 keys , Jump quest and 30 golden teeth. Now it’s no prequest and it’s one shot it
- Horntail prequest were a hassle everytime it was run, you have to collect the same materials for it.
Having an eye accessory or face accessory was considered already lucky.
you forgot darknell
To me, I like when Maple was hard, like you know right now you can teleport anywhere, back then you had to strive to get where you wanted to be, things like that
I still remember the carpal tunnel syndrome from clicking for ludi pq :D that was stressful
Oh my god stop I’m gonna cry. I wish I can experience old maple for the first time just like back then
I miss old henesys hunting grounds
High level players would spam powerfull attacks that would kill every monster there was.
HHG was the spot! Hell, I think many players leveled to 200 there because EVERYONE could be there for it (when 200 was an admirable achievement).
I still like doing quests on my main I have been doing a bunch even though I can overleveled because I find them relaxing and fun.
i remember that one samurai npc in perion that randomly threw me to Nihal Desert..... took me an enternity to go back to victoria via orbis....
Also I remember meeting lv 170 tiger and finding it weird how different his char looked from the picture he had on the leaderboard lol
I miss all old ms 🤗
I liked it when it took a long time to level up and certain skills were exclusive to certain classes.
I solo'd Horntail last night in under 7 minutes. Last time I did that it was a group of 30, took a couple of hours, and half the team DCed, lol.
